I had an amazing meal that was the perfect size to taste multiple items. When I walked in, I was greeted promptly. It was slightly busy and the staff was buzzing around. The bar area is small and it was quite warm.
I watched many craft cocktails leave the bar. And personally enjoyed a delicious glass of red wine.
I started my meal with a fresh beet salad. It had delicious burrata cheese, walnuts, pickled beets and onions. The dressing was light and the lettuce crisp.
My next course was oysters. They were perfect.
Lastly, I had a cheddar charcuterie. It was a great size for one person with homemade berry jam , walnuts, and focaccia.

Our meal was very disappointing compared to last year. The server did not offer us a wine list. The baked oysters at $4 each were small and I expected some extra ingredients in them just not truffle oil. The lobster sliders should be called slaw sliders as there was a large portion of slaw and could hardly taste any lobster. The tempura mushroom and string bean was very good. The coffee rub pork tenderloin consisted of 4 small slabs of grossly overcooked pork and I did not accept this dish. The veggie stir fry mainly rice with few veggies. The seafood jambalaya was overly hot with what tasted like the same rice in the previous dish. There was not alot of seafood but I did not expect there to be for the price but the chorizo was very dark in color. The chicken lettuce wraps hd the chicken chopped up so small we could hardly taste the chicken. It was a Tuesday night around 7 pm and there were not many patrons. We were there last year in the summer midweek and it was very crowded. I am wondering if others had a similar experience as me.

Wow - didn’t expect such an amazing food experience in Stevens Point. We sampled four menu options (lettuce wraps, scallops, walleye, and strawberry salad) and two desserts (bread pudding and sorbet).

Overall, I would say the experience was just ok. The drinks and cocktail menu were nice. The daily mojito was watermelon flavored for summer, and very good. The food was just ok, everything was a bit salty. The steak medallions were great seasoning and sear, but the sides and sauce were not a good pairing. The swordfish was cooked well, but the noodles it came with were so incredibly salty and didn't pair well together. I'd probably not return.

I spotted this place while walking through town and had no idea what I was walking into. The entrance does not prepare you for the outdoor seating area - absolutely stunning garden where you can eat your food and drink your drinks. I had a lot of fun checking out all the crops while waiting for the foods. Everything was yummy, but the cheese curds in particular were extra squeaky!

Excellent service. Food was good. Many flavors— almost too many imo. Tapas restaurant. All shareable — small portions. Fried chicken was delicious, I wish this was offered as a meal, we had 5 tiny nuggets with grits. That was disappointing would have liked a few more nuggets for $18.

Sat at the bar. Food was mostly good. Seafood Jambalaya was just ok. Other items were great. Drinks were also great. Notably, the bar area was overly messy and unorganized, which was off putting while eating there. Clean that up and it will be an excellent experience!

The food was very tasty. The waiter was oddly rude. It wasnt very busy so the attitude felt unjustified. The atmosphere was a bit depressing. There was no music. I had expected like jazz, instrumental or indie but it was quiet which made it seem a bit depressing.

Was excited to go here as we haven’t been in a few years and was disappointed. We brought some friends who haven’t been here and was excited to share this with them. Like last time we went, they were out of several things by 5:30pm. The food we got was good but I feel portions were bigger and didn’t really feel like the whole tapas experience like we’ve had before. Had to flag down our waitress to get another drink and then again to order more food. Not sure if we will be returning.

Awesome place to go to with friends! There is a great patio area, a small bar area, and a little dining room. We tried several drink specials, all delicious. We also ordered several dishes to share including the Beet Salad, Roasted Shoshito Peppers, Lobster Rolls, Jambalaya, Grouper, Spare Ribs, and Orange Creme Brule. Everything was sooo good! Jacob, our server, was pleasant, knowledgeable and patient with us. We enjoyed our time and week be back.

Father Fats recap. We flipped a coin and ended up here Saturday night after a long day of floor scrubbing 🥵

Overall, great experience!! It’s a small plates experience so you order a variety of dishes and try a few pieces of each menu item. We ordered a bunch of dishes and they were all excellent! Favorite was a tie between the pulled pork taco, lamb meatballs, and filet. The desserts were disappointing so we capped the night at @coldstone which never disappoints. Highly recommend overall though! The menu changes daily so we will definitely be back!

We were going to be near Rapids visiting family for my birthday, so I spent a while looking for somewhere in central WI that hit my “nice birthday dinner” bar, and this seemed like it would be the clear winner. And I was right! I stalked the menu for a few months and even though it rotates, there were consistently at least a half a dozen things that looked great, so I felt confident planning on a specific night even without knowing the exact menu until that day. We were a little wary not being able to make reservations with the drive, but we got there a little before 5 on a Saturday night and had no problem getting seating, though it definitely was filling up after us.

Everything we got was great, though everyone at my table had different favorites. The beef carpaccio was a standout for me, just sublime, good enough that I ordered a second round because tbh had I known it would be that good I wouldn’t have shared the first one with my husband quite so readily. Pork nachos were great (the pork itself was wonderful, smoky and tender), and my SIL would’ve happily had the sweet corn & asparagus risotto to herself. My husband really liked the kielbasa stroganoff and was also happy to have the chance to get a few standalone oysters, as the only seafood eater at the table. (Though this is a good place for it - lots on the menu pretty consistently.) Everyone at my table had different favorites but none of us were disappointed by anything we tried. We also had quite a few different cocktails and they were all great, though the Lemon Pepper Wet was a particular standout.

Re: cost, it was certainly not cheap but very reasonable for this kind of food, and I would say things were priced fairly… proportionately? That is, we got several different sizes of dish/item and I would say nothing surprised me re: how small or large it was for what it cost, based on the menu prices in relation to each other & the knowledge that it was more of a small/mixed plates place. I would say a full dinner here is more of a special occasion thing for my wallet, but given how good it was & how different it was from most other dining in the area it all seemed pretty fair.

Overall a great experience that lived up to my hopes for it, and a very good find!

This is now my favorite restaurant in Wisconsin, HANDS DOWN! Literally everything I ate and drank tonight was exquisite and the people who work here are just as sweet as the syrup used to make mocktail. I enjoyed my Smoked Salmon Crepes, Truffle Oysters, Steam Bun, and Grilled Cheese w/ marinara. Molly the bartender is such a lovely human being and so is the chef and other members in the back of the house that I had the pleasure of meeting while sitting at the bar tonight.

Mini truffles grilled cheese sandwich previously two size about 2×3, nice appetizers size now one, and quite pricey! $$$
Bread pudding was served with a lovely whiskey sauce, now, is a small piece size of deck of cards, dryish with drizzle of sauce, chewy consitency (Looks more like a blonde brownie, texture and the nutmeg flavor is overwhelming.
Very disappointed instead of roasted vegetables, were crudites!, burger dried asked for a bit of pink ... Totally overcooked, fries soggy no seasoning.
Chinese fried rice for my toddler was spicy hot. $$$$ Service very slow. We had visit Christian's Bistro, El Jefe even Father Fats before but today experience was a big disappointment.
The server didn't show the minimum courtesy.

Disgusting horrible place, kitchen full of flies. So nasty, flies only swarm for rotting food. The fact that they're allowed to breed and take over the kitchen is all I really need to know. You get to pay high prices for food with fly eggs on it, enjoy!

TWELVE HEALTH VIOLATIONS:
Father Fats Public House, 945 Clark St.: Oct 24: 12 violations: Apple puree is from an unapproved source; shell eggs stored over ready-to-eat foods in upright cooler (corrected during inspection); date markings missing from several ready-to-eat foods held in refrigerators; consumer advisory on menu missing disclosure statement for foods that may be served raw or undercooked; test kit for sanitizer expired; wall-mounted potato cutter dirty; handwashing sink used as dump sink for liquid waste and has no paper towels or handwashing signs; open boxes of single-service food articles stored on floor in basement; fly sticky tape over main food prep station in kitchen (corrected during inspection); light fixture above dish machine at bar not working; flies seen in kitchen; ceiling vents and adjacent kitchen surfaces dirty.

Are you looking for something different than the typical Midwest pub fare found in Wisconsin (not that it’s bad!)? Do not stop in Steven’s Point without checking this place out if love interesting and eclectic pairings.

The food is just incredible. Many of the plates are small portioned and meant to be shared. More of a tapas experience. I had the Panzanella, soup of the day (Coconut Curry Squash), Mini Truffle Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and the PB&J & PB sliders. All fantastic. I’m not impressed easily. Love this place. Hope work takes me here again. I’ll find a way back if not.

Top it all off my server Alexander was hospitable and very helpful in making recommendations that appealed to me. 100/10 experience! I’m only sorry I didn’t take photos before devouring my food!

Very busy when I was there so naturally there was a wait. The food was very good. We had scallops and meatballs,( which were dry but came with a tasty sauce) and chicken wraps. $20 for 4 average size scallops was a bit steep. $5 a scallop? Next time we'll have nachos as well. It looked like you got quite a bit. We each had a watermelon Cosmopolitan which was the best I've ever had. Priced nicely at 10 a piece. With tax and tip it came close to $100. Great for special occasions. Great food just not enough of it. We still had room for desert. In hindsight it's probably good we didn't stuff ourselves!! Lol

The nachos were good, nothing spectacular. We ordered tacos also and they weren’t delivered until the nachos were almost gone. Don’t know what took so long to throw a couple little hard slices of pork on a tortilla with too much arugula? They were very different than the last pork belly tacos we had. The meat was overdone like jerky, and the sauce was very spicy. We tried to tell the waiter they were not what we had before and we were struggling with the spice level but it was lost in him. The margs were nothing special either. So for the price I’d have to say my Birthday dinner was not worth it. And I was not the one paying. Thumbs down. Also very dark inside and the furniture is not comfortable.

It is with a heavy heart that I leave a bad review for a restaurant that I have always liked. So I will start with the good, the servers were kind and expedient. The food was good, albeit almost the exact same food items on the menu the last four times we went... exact same. Which is odd for a restaurant that changes it's menu often. And now to the bad, the disgusting made me throw up in my mouth bad. Flies... there were so many flies, not one, not three, like fifteen + and also fruit flies. As soon as the cocktails were set on the table the fruit fly swarm came. We spent the whole pre-dinner cocktail time swatting aggressive fruit flies. The bar clearly has an infestation. It was upsetting but perhaps could be overlooked... Then dinner came and the black flies came. At one point I looked down and saw three flies swimming around in the sauce on my plate. I know some flies might come in during the late summer/autumn but this was not some flies this was all the flies and their cousins, their neighbors, and the fly they went to summer camp with. This perhaps sounds hyperbolic- it's not. There were more than 15 flies swarming our dinner and drinks. It was like being on the worst picnic... because the drinks we were guarding.. they were nasty- but at that price point you gotta drink them. I don't know who is curating the cocktail menu- but they are not good at it. I have always enjoyed getting one of the fun cocktails they serve- today they were terrible. One was so bad that even though it cost $10 it was wasted. It was disgusting. The second one I tried was better but like in that way that second degree sunburn is better than third degree- it's still bad but you won't die. I miss Dave, things have not been the same without him. If you have to go, wait until it's snowy and the flies are dead. They have to die sometime right? And don't waste your time on a fun cocktail it will be nasty.. for $10 they shouldn't be nasty.

I've never had a bad meal here.
The staff is excellent.
The bar is amazing... best martini I've ever had came from here.
Not cheap though... but I have no problem paying for great quality.
Ask to sit outside if the weather allows it! Its lovely.

2022 Update: Original Review is still correct! One of the BEST places in Stevens Point!

Father Fats is a restaurant that we have been looking forward to trying for some time since it was featured on Wisconsin Foodie. Chef Christian has definitely tried to create a robust menu that covers a lot of space, genres, and flavor profiles. The first thing that immediately hits when getting anywhere near the restaurant is that smoky BBQ flavor. It hits your nostrils and immediately, I could almost taste it! Nestled on a corner in downtown Steven's Point, I could sense the intimacy of the dining and bar area. On a busy night, I get the feeling it could easily be shoulder to shoulder, however we happened to luck out on a Saturday evening in the summer and we only waited about a half hour to sit on their patio/garden area in the back. A side note here, as I don't want to come off as perturbed at anything the staff did, because they were always funny, polite and courteous and very apologetic when things didn't seem to go as planned. The bar area was way too small for the guests they were serving and the bartender was clearly overwhelmed by both the bar area and having to make drinks for people already eating. She kept apologizing and making light of her situation which put everyone at ease, but I think in order to appease patrons, she was taking verbal orders from multiple parties, filling one or two of their drinks and then going to fill a drink order for someone at a table, then she would come back, forget who was next and re-ask what people wanted. It was great if you got your drink right away, but not so great if your friends had finished a drink and you were still waiting on yours. Also, some wines need to be kept cool in order to maintain their full flavor and it was clearly very warm in the bar and a friend of mine ordered a red wine and it was hard to drink when the wine was eighty degrees. My Father Fats Old Fashioned was delicious and reminded me of drinking a wonderfully soothing grapefruit/lemon drink. We were ushered outside to the patio area which was lovely in the setting sun and we were surrounded by a vegetable garden. It was lovely. We had a great and knowledgeable waitress who was also funny and charming. Now, we are foodies and knew we would be ordering a lot of plates to try. We did ask our waitress if we should order all of our food at once or if we should order 2-3 dishes at a time. She did say she would handle the spacing of everything. Clearly, however that was our biggest mistake of the evening. Everything was delicious and very appetizing, but the food came out in an odd order and sometimes several dishes at once. It got to the point where food was getting cold sitting there as we ate previous dishes. The nachos, which came out mid-meal, were getting soupy by the time we were eating them. I wish we were the wiser (and will be next time) to only order 2 dishes at a time before ordering more. Some of my favorites were the Mushroom Soup, the smoked salmon dip, the scallops, and the BBQ pork with mashed potatoes and corn. Overall, I would love to eat here again because the food is definitely the star attraction and well worth it, with some minor adjustments for ordering and service.

I tried the nachos, lettuce wrap, and bruschetta. Definitely delicious and everything was great! They make their own queso sauce for the nachos! YUMMY! I am already looking forward to going back here to try some of their other dishes. They have many other things on the menu that sound amazing that I want to try!

Wanted a three star. Chef C recipes are fantastic and food is near 5 star, aside from the little pasty cupcake. The peculiar randomness of food arrival times and waiting doesn't contribute to the experience. But the food is delicious!

We were told at 7:30 to wait 30 minutes for a table, which turned into over an hour. When we finally got seated sometime around 8:15, we put in our order, but it took forever for the last entree to come out even though by then there were hardly anybody in the restaurant. It was almost dark and close to 9:30 - past closing, by the time we got our halibut, and in the meantime we were being eaten by mosquitos. The waitress didn't come out and apologize during this long wait until the very end. I feel like they should have offered a free dessert or discount or something!

The marinated beet salad was a standout, and every bite of my braised short ribs was a delight. Our server, Angela was charming. Wish I lived close enough to come all the time.

4 years ago this was 5 star. Editing to include my last experience of a locked restaurant after driving 40 miles when gas prices are through the roof. No notice was posted. I tried to politely and not publicly communicate my frustration, to which got no responce. Incredibly disappointed.

SMALL PLATES
This is great way to spend a night out with family or friends, they offer numerous small plate options for sharing and reasonably priced. With a table of 4 we ordered at least 6 small plates options & 4 desserts . Some of our options were roasted veggies, lamb & rice meatballs, 2 types of fish plates, pork belly & salmon. We ordered the pan seared scallops & oyster but they were out of both. It was very busy so it made it loud & unable to converse until some tables left. Overall very good & will return.

That place needs a whole new crew . The bartender was not helpful, the cook came out and screamed real loud to greed a friend , then some guy came out of the kitchen with a drink in his hand all along I’m sitting at the Bar waiting for some service. I felt stupid “really”! I finely told the bartender I would like there steak salad , since I lost my appetite . So yah, the salad came out soggy and the steak was not eatable. Sorry! but no thank you !

Impromptu visit and my wife and I are glad we did! Swanky (not too), urban feel (still cozy) and food served tapas style. Menu runs the gamut but the food integrity stays on point. We had the crispy pork belly, jambalaya, wings (piping hot), tres leches cake and thin mint cheesecake. Perfect portion sizes— so if you’re looking for Midwest massive, prob not the place. Servers and host are warm and friendly from the jump. Not bad when everything from Waupaca to Amherst was closed. We’ll be back ;)

I've been here a few times and have always had a good experience. Father Fats menu changes almost daily based on locally available products. The portion size is small but large enough to be shared by two people. When we go there, we usually order 3-4 different items and that is more than enough to fill us both up.

Great place, even more fantastic staff. Got 3 dishes plus dessert for each of us to feed 2 total! Duck was okay but worth trying once, I would recommend the scallops because they're like butter! Love that dishes change often here to keep it interesting.
