Food tasted good, bartender and waitress were very nice and quick, good Old Fashioned. The issue was the cook. The cook(s) was or were too slow, often the buffet was out of food (ribs & chicken) resulting in a long line at the buffet waiting for the cook to prepare more food. We were there before and during the supper rush. This put the poor buffet server girl in an awkward situation, and interrupted the flow of service.

Excellent restaurant! I recommend the fish, chicken, and rib plate. The boiled cod is excellent and the BBQ chicken and ribs are spot on! Staff is friendly and took care of us the whole time we were there. This time of year we love to sit at one of the outside tables where we can watch the outdoor kettles while the fish is being cooked. We spent a little over 2 hours eating and visiting with friends. I highly recommend Fitzgeralds.

The fish boil was fantastic! Great flavor! The chicken was a little dry, both the white and dark meats. The food is served buffet style. Everything is all you can eat except the dessert. This is a cash only establishment, and they do have an atm on site. The host explained how the processed worked and was very welcoming. They do have a fully stocked bar for when you are waiting for your table. You are also able to go out and see where the cooking takes place. We will definitely be going back for more fish boul!

I've been coming here for years, haven't been here in a while. Was standing in the open area for nearly an hour, nobody came out to talk to us, there were people getting back in line for seconds with their plates, and the line didn't move the entire time. Nobody came out to tell us what was going on. We had to leave because they hoing to close.
Im completely dissatisfied, we drove over an hour to get here.

Edit: Third time we have been here and LOVE it! Fish is great. Onions are well cooked and sweet. Good coslaw. Large craft of wine $18.00. Ayce fish, potatoes, onions , bread, coslaw and desert $18.00. Add bbq chicken $2.00 or bbq chicken and ribs $4.00. The kids do a great job and they are the one that deserve the tip!

Updating, we came back and I stick by my review! We really enjoy this place and hope they continue! Unlike cod at most places, here it has a lot of flavor especially with the boiled onions and the drawn butter. Thanks again to the young man at the serving line! Food can be good depending on the mood the server decides to give you full pieces of fish or bits and pieces. If she knows you you'll get asked how many apple slices you want if she's having a BAD day expect 1 and it might be and end cut!!! Popular all you can eat fish boil, bbq chicken and ribs. I had fish and bbq chicken. Fish was very good, but my bbq chicken breast was dry. I was part of a group of 8 people. We ate outside under a tent. Weather was great and everyone was comfortable. Drinks were billed separate from the fixed charge for food.

This place has great food with a great atmosphere! If you are looking for a fancy upscale place, this is not it, but they have great food in a historic house. I enjoyed their fish, which was fabulous in their melted butter. Their potatoes and onions are great, as well as their cole slaw. My friends and husband enjoyed their chicken and ribs. They said it was great!!!

I'm not sure why there are so many 5 star reviews about this place. I went there last evening for the fish boil, my daughter got ribs and my wife got the fish and chicken. I got one tiny piece of fish, one potato, a part of an onion and coleslaw. The fish was bland, my daughters ribs were charcoal, and my wife got a chicken leg that was so sad and pathetic, that I nearly went back to ask for a refund.
If you want more variety and slightly better food, the Fire Pit is a much better choice.
We walked away very disappointed. At least we gave it a try.

I searched for restaurants for my birthday dinner. I knew absolutely nothing about this restaurant prior to arriving. Their website doesn't list any details but first major detail is this is a cash only place, luckily I had cash on me as I typically do not.

We decided to eat inside and that was the second mistake. It was so hot and muggy inside, I was sweating bad. This is also a buffet style restaurant, I was not expecting that and typically do not like this style of restaurant.

On to the food, probably the worst food I have ever gotten from a restaurant. The ribs barely had BBQ sauce on them and just tasted burnt. Ribs were mostly fat and had very little meat on them. The chicken was rubbery with an awful texture and almost no taste. The fish was OK, not great but not horrible. The star of the night were the boiled potatoes, those were the only good tasting item.

I think the reason this restaurant gets rated higher than it should is because of the pricing and quantity of food you get, not the quality. I prefer to pay more to get better quality meats and a typical restaurant service. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant as I ended up not finished anything and grabbing fast food on the way home that tasted way better. I am still in shock at how this place is rated 4.7.

Unfortunately, this visit was lacking service. We waited a while to order drinks - had to go order at the bar ourselves. We were well into our second course before the server made her way to our table. Can't even use the excuse that it was a busy night since we were seated right away in a half empty dining room. But its possible she was the only server for both floors. This won't stop us from going back when we're craving fishboil.

I've owned 2 restaurants, manage many since 1980 and have eaten at hundreds.
Fitzgerald's is by far the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The food is so terrible that they make you pay in advance because they know that you wouldn't pay after receiving your meal. We each paid $23.50 cash for their Combo plate consisting of your choice of Boiled fish, Bbq chicken and Bbq ribs. I opted for ribs and was only served 3 little ribs...The teenager serving from chafing dishes said more ribs will be available soon.
My 91 year old Mother opted for the chicken and was served 3 paltry wings and a tiny drumstick, the teen at the chafing dishes said there weren't any chilken breasts or thighs left. My Father ordered the boiled fish and it was a pile of mushy over cooked fish! 40 minutes later and still no ribs for me and no chicken breasts or thighs for my Mother. We left terribly disappointed in the food and the attitudes of the very inexperienced staff. We will never return and will spread the word of the worst dining experience of our entire lives.
Please don't waste your hard earned money at this establishment...There are plenty of great restaurants in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin to visit and enjoy....

Their cole slaw was very good and the potatoes and onions were very good as well. If you are looking for fancy this is not the place. What a gem! This place has the best cod I have ever had. Everything was delicious! The chicken thigh was also very good, it was nice and moist and I liked the barbecue sauce. As usual, the fish was amazing. The homemade coleslaw is crispy and delicious. The boiled potatoes and onions melt in your mouth...especially with the drawn butter they pour over them. The food was just okay, but we found it hard to believe that they ran out of fish at 5:00 1 hour after opening. The proper thing to do would be to give the customer 1 piece of chicken, while they wait, so they can eat their cole slaw and potato with. I was shocked that they didn’t. Then I went up for another piece of fish, I was the only one in line, and 2 girls are filling to go orders while I waited with no acknowledgement. The proper thing to do is take care of the customer in front of you. The fact that they charge for a soda refill in this day and age is so backwards. The glasses are about 8 oz and half ice. This place needs to focus in customer service.

My expectations were very high from family and friends' recommendations, along with the online reviews. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We went there for our very first time this past weekend, on Saturday night. The young lady at the buffet serving us seemed irritated with my 82 yr old elderly aunt, who couldn't hear well. Then, same gal was snappy with my husband who went up hoping the fish was refilled and told him they weren't serving ANY food at the moment. We knew they were waiting for fish, but NO food could be served? I didn't understand that. My aunt wanted to take home the half of chicken breast she couldn't finish and was told she couldn't ( even though the the buffet server told her she could) ...
Then, too top it off, after waiting 15 minutes in the fish to be refilled, we asked a waitress passing by if she knew how much longer it would be and she said she'd find out and never came back. We waited a few more minutes then decided it wasn't worth it at this point. My husband and I each heard that buffet server be rather mean to two different people. I could over look how tired the place looks and a few other little critiques, but, I cannot overlook rudeness and poor customer service. And, for the price paid, to not be able to have a second helping.. of anything ... that I definitely won't overlook. 3bbq bones, 1 potato, 1 salt piece of rye bread and 1 small broken up piece of cod/1 unbroken piece (too thick and too rubbery) pc of cod was not worth $22 to me. My aunt paid the same and had to throw out her 1/2 chicken breast, had 2 small pcs fish, 1 potato, 1 piece of salt rye bread and coleslaw. No one had seconds..
I could see not allowing someone to take left overs home once they're on a second helping but on your original plate of food that you paid for?

Food was amazing..Help situation was little light poor girl was stretched thin getting drinks and cleaning up dirty dishes. She was very nice just felt bad for her. Serving line was fast and food plentiful and delicious.

Fitzgerald's fish boil is my favorite. You can get all you can eat for reasonable price. We are going again on Friday 6 of us to enjoy this beautiful restaurant.

Nice place to have all u can eat fish, ribs and chicken. Prices were very decent prices. Drinks were decently priced. We definitely come back here again the wait staff and cocktail waitress were very polite and kind.
