We went there yesterday for the first time and based our decision to go there on other reviews. However, we were very disappointed with the food and service. We ordered breakfast and out of our 5 orders , 4 were wrong when they were brought out. After our server attempted to correct them, they still were wrong. The food was not great and unfortunately, most of it ended up going to waste. My daughters order of biscuits and gravy was so salty, it could not be eaten. The pancakes were overdone and very firm and really were not good at all. The breakfast potatoes again, were very salty. ( I like salty food, but this was way overdone). Our server never came back to check on us and see how our food was. She did have a larger table she was working on, but it seemed that all of their food was wrong and they also stated things were too salty. We asked for water, and a carafe was brought out, but server left to do other things and we realized we didn't have any glasses to put the water in. After waiting over 20 minutes for her to give us a bill, we asked another server to let her know we wanted the bill. I have been a waitress/server for 26 years, so I know how things should be done and this was really not acceptable. She was very freindly, but just seemed overwhelmed for having 3 tables. They did credit us for the order of biscuits and gravy, but it would have been nice to let her know there was an issue, so my daughter could have ordere something else. However, she never came back to check on us. All in all, not a good experience at all.

We had to wait a long time to be seated and it wasn't that busy. When we were seated it took the waitress a long time just to get our drink order. After our drinks came it took the waitress a bit to come and get the food order. One of our group ordered broasted chicken, the waitress said we ran out. Come on at 2:00pm you ran out of chicken already, this is not exceptable. We got our food and it was fairly good except one in our group said there needs to be more sour kraut on the Reuben. All of the food is over priced for sure. When we got our bills, the waitress had them all screwed up and also charged us 50 cents more for something she couldn't explain. First time there and will never go back after that experience. Also, did not care for the ( Do not tread on me) motif in the restaurant.

Edit for today. Had family visiting and made a 3:00 reservation on a Sunday for 6. Arrived at 3:00 and told there was no inside table for us because they had a party of 6 and a party of 8 walk in and were just seated so they didn't have room! I made this reservation 11 days ago!!!! We had to leave and find somewhere to eat and as we were walking out - the bartender said sarcasticly - "geez....thanks for waiting". Embarassing
moment for us to scramble and change our plans. Will never be back.

Mother's day brunch buffet was pretty good. Lots of choices but had to go upstairs and downstairs to get everything. We were seated downstairs and even though we had a 4 and 5 old along, we were seated at a bar height table so worried about the kids getting up and down. Had a tough time moving around the buffet. If someone was in the line you could not get past to get in line or go upstairs. Just a bit tight for buffets. Food was okay. Thought that $29 each was high. But will return to try regular menu.

The only reason why I’m giving it two stars is because of how nice the waitress was to me and my date. Unfortunately, I’m very sick with food poisoning, and I know for certain it’s from here. I had the hot turkey sandwich. Please take a look at your ingredients for that sandwich and throw them out. Something is contaminated. Very scared about going again and most likely won’t. Some workers are good with customer service but most of them are not, overheard what appeared to be the manager I’d assume talking down on her employees to another while sitting in the bar area. Let me start by saying the 3 stars I gave for the food at Gary’s Place is not typical of their food. I have been here other times and the food was fantastic. This time however I had the French Dip. The meat was very dry and flavorless. Usually you can rely on the Au Jus to add some flavor, unfortunately the Au Jus also was flavorless. I am sure my next visit to Gary’s will result in their normal high quality food.

Had a very disappointing experience this evening. This is my sixth time visiting Gary's Place and it may be my last. The food usually is delicious, but tonight was very different.
We were seated immediately, good waitress, good service, so that wasn't the issue. The issue was with the food. I ordered my usual which is chicken tenders and a basket of fries. They changed the chicken. It's no longer "real" chicken but the mechanically separated/spongy/ school cafeteria chicken. They also changed their fries. They used to have the best battered fries, and instead they're now using cheap, basic fries which were undercooked and cold when they arrived at the table. My husband's burger was also over cooked.
It seems the prices have stayed the same, but the quality of food has taken a big dive. I think I read an earlier comment saying they lost their old cook. That explains it.....Expensive and total disappointment.

I’m sorry, I really wanted to like this place, the location is great on the East Bank of the river on the bike trail and the patio is nice. Prices have increased considerably since the previous reviews. $30 entre. The ribs look great but were inedible. They did not come with a knife and I had great difficulty cutting them with a table knife, and on a plate that was too small to contain the food, which flew off onto the wire table .I’m afraid they were almost impossible to chew! I had asked my server what kind of ribs they were. She checked and told me they were back ribs. They were not, they were spare ribs, which I grew up on and loved, but one must cook the (@) out of them before they ever see a grill! They were smoky and well seasoned and had a delicious sauce, and adequate sides, but this was not a good choice today. The prime rib is only on Saturday, I hope they are worth it.

Our experience was off to a decent start until my mozz sticks came, they werent hot at all. We werent quite ready to order food so we just wanted to enjoy a drink or two and an appetizer. When we were ready, our waitress was no where to be seen while all the other staff sat at the bar ignoring us. It had to have been 20-30 minutes until our waitress appeared finally asking if we were ready, we said no we will just take the check. Then she wouldnt honor a coupon voucher my boyfriend had purchased trying to claim it was avtually meant for $50 worth of items not $40, when there was no where on the paper saying that. We ended up Walking to casa tequila for margs and tacos and had a much more pleasant experience. Dont come here, its not worth it

Service was slow. I never sent a meal back in my life before now. They were out of filet so we ordered ribs. They were very tough. Could barely cut with a knife and very little meat on them. Waiter knew what was wrong before we told him. Used to be a treat to come here. Will never be back. They lost there old chef and the new one is a poor replacement. This place won't last long. Went for lunch today, wife had the Ceasar wrap and a Diet Coke that the bartender did keep it filled. I had the Asian chicken chopped salad which were both good! I also had a Bloody Mary which was just average at best.We had to sit at the bar which was fine. The bartender did quite a good job as she was pretty buried serving food and making drinks without much help from the rest of the staff. Was surprised when the owner showed up and just sat down next to the big pile of dirty glassware that was stacked at the end of the bar. Needless to say, this was not a great visit and not sure if we will be back.

It was our first time eating at Gary’s, and the food was great. I’d give the food and drinks 5 stars. But our server Kara must’ve been having a bad day because she was unpleasant right off the bat. She seemed annoyed to even be there. My friend had a coupon, and upon getting the discounted total, Kara said in a rude tone “just so you’re aware the 20% tip is based off the discounted price”

She should really watch her tone with people as all of us have been in the service industry before- and obviously know that. And due to me working in the industry before i still tipped 20%, even though due to her attitude i don’t think she deserved it.

I’d go back for the food, and hopefully get a better server next time.

If you are going out to eat and run, possibly good place to eat. But if you are choosing for a dining experience and to spend time visiting with your companion, not optional. Server/Bartendar spent more time talking to the ONLY person at the bar than waiting on us. She only had two tables and still was terrible.
Ran out of Bloody Mary mix(reg) and then after we ordered, she came back and said they had no more of the soup my husband ordered.

Gary's Place is a nice location and a very cozy interior situated in one of West Bend's historic old buildings. Been there a few years ago so decided to give it another go for a quiet date night with my wife. We had bruschetta for an appetizer and both had the Chicken Marsala - sadly neither was very appetizing. Whatever the use for balsamic vinaigrette is quite mild, though the brush was fresh and crispy. The Chicken Marsala had over cooked noodles and pasta with more mild sauce, though the chicken was tender and juicy. It just left us both unsatisfied and thinking we better wait a while before coming back. Nice staff, nice building but it was too cold and drafty. There was a table of 6 next to us who didn't even take their jackets off during dinner. Parking is limited too, be prepared to park across the street. Maybe summers are better?

We recently visited Gary’s Place on a Sunday, eager to try their brunch. The building itself is beautiful, situated in a lovely area near the art museum, and we’d been looking forward to dining here for some time. When we arrived, we stepped into a well-kept vestibule with clear signage asking guests to wait to be seated. However, it took quite a while before anyone greeted us. A regular popped into the bar area and seemed to know the routine, so we followed suit, though it was still some time before anyone noticed us.

Once checked in, we were able to sit in comfortable chairs in the bar area while waiting for our table. A friendly staff member checked in with us at least once, which we appreciated. Shortly after, we were seated by a window, though the view was slightly marred by some disheveled patio furniture, possibly due to recent weather.

Our server was warm and welcoming, but it did seem that the team was struggling a bit with capacity and coordination. For instance, coffee service felt disjointed, with our server having to search for clean mugs and the coffee itself being rationed until more was made. We also noticed the coffee preparation area behind us, with buckets for water that didn’t appear as clean as one might hope.

The food presentation was nice, and portions were generous. It was clear that some care went into the preparation, though a few ingredient choices, like the oil used for eggs, could use an upgrade for a richer taste.

The Toast system for the check made it easy to pay and split our bill at the table, which was a convenient touch. However, other small details, like a visibly animated conversation among the staff outside our window, did detract from the overall experience.

All in all, Gary’s Place has some positive aspects, but it fell short in certain areas. It may not be a spot we’d revisit soon, though it has potential if a few service details are fine-tuned.

The last pic is from their website and the amount of meat they show. Just for look. I didnt get that much for extra, $26. I ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries. I explained to the woman on the phone that the last time I ordered this the sandwich had no sauerkraut on it and there was barely any meat. So I asked her how much extra meat was, she was unsure, so I told her just put it on there. I just picked up my food I was charged $5 for extra meats and $3 for extra sauerkraut. The total was almost $26. When I looked there was what would be considered as a normal amount of meat and when I took the sandwich apart there was a couple shreds of sauerkraut. So I paid for extra and didn't even get a normal amount. I was on lunch from work so I didn't have time for chef to remake it. They told me 20 minutes to pick up, I was there in 20, the food was cold on top of being overcharged for extra meat that I don't think I got, being charged for extra sauerkraut with really not getting any, but they didn't even put my container in a bag or give me napkins. The lady that I spoke to was very nice and it's 100% not her fault. But when you charge someone $26 for a sandwich and extra is supposed to be on it, give it. If you order a Reuben here expect to get two tiny pieces of meat maybe three on your sandwich no sauerkraut. I paid extra for sweet potato fries and I got 10. To overcharge people and then give them the least amount of food, someone asked for extra they charge you for it and then they don't give you any.
UPDATE! I just received a call from the chef aquarius. How disrespectful he was. He talked over me raised his voice and then insulted me. He told me he made the sandwich himself and there was sauerkraut on it. All he has to do is look at the time I picked up the food and look at the time on the picture I'll go ahead and post it. It's about 1 minute. I walked out to my car opened up the container and took pictures before I did the review. I didn't even sit in my car I set it on my seat. That's besides the point this man just called me raised his voice and was so beyond disrespectful. He thought it was the money that I paid and I was just trying to get it back. If that was the case when the lady offered to give me my money back I would have done it. The food went in the garbage. The Corned Beef was so dry there was barely any Thousand Island on it and I took pictures there was no sauerkraut. And if that was the amount they normally put on fine but they charged me $3 for extra. He told me lady do you know how much corned beef cost, again so disrespectful. Will sauerkraut's really cheap so tell me why I was charged $3 for a couple flakes of it. I'm sure that's the way he talks to his wife, he's a miserable human being and if he's not the owner, the owner should be very upset. Word of Mouth travels and I will make sure I tell anybody I know and anybody I run into not to eat at this place. I'm now going to take money out of my own pocket just to put up signs everywhere in this town telling people how terrible I was treated. The call was recorded because it's my work phone, so maybe I'll just put that recording everywhere. Whoever owns this place, needs to do something about their Cook's attitude. Forgive me for saying chef. For someone that actually knows how to cook. This guy flaps together some dry food overcharges and then gets an attitude when he's called out for his behavior and his inability to even make a sandwich. I tried a small bite of meat,so dry. I weighted all.the meat abd it was 4.7 ounces. The guy told me it was almost 10 ounces. liar, disrespects customers, and can't make a simple sandwich. He shouldn't mistreat people, you never know where they work and how it may come back to you, SIR

We visited for our anniversary and did not disappoint. My husband ordered the prime rib and said it's the best he has had years. He said it was outstanding and the mashed potatoes had so much flavor. Had food from there which was great. Attempted an online order which went through but unfortunately my wife ordered food not offered that day. They called to ask to swap out that item but we needed to review the menu so we asked if we could call back. So now we TRY to call back and change our order over 10 times. No voicemail and no answer. Had to go there for half our order and get our money back when we easily would have swapped out the unavailable item. Cheese curds and onion strings were really good as was the ranch sauce served with it.
My boyfriend enjoyed the burger and fries, he was in love with the thick cut of bacon on it and the crisp. I had the spinach, strawberry salad and asked to get chicken on it and I am please with my choice, the spinach was really freshas was the feta cheese in it and the dressing, the right amount and very good.

Starting with the service- the hostess was rude, and the waitress couldn't get rid of us quickly enough. I got the perch & that was also very good. It's nice to get pieces you can see & they're not cooked to death & dry. They turned out great! Didn't really need tartar sauce, but I tried it. It was good! It's a dill based flavor & a nice change from the ubiquitous pickle relish. The coleslaw was good, too. What really impressed us was the order of Bayou Mac & Cheese. Wow is that good! Would make for a great winter comfort food! Just the right amount of heat, but not too spicy. The chicken is seasoned well & the flavor of the Andouille sausage matches up just right. Wonderful! We'll be back for more of that & to check out the rest of the menu.

I had the Bayou Mac! It was like Mac jambalaya! Very delicious, very tasty! The building is fabulous it's an old house, moved to this location! They are big on the beer choice and weak on the whiskey (whisky) choices.

One of the worst lake perch dinner I’ve had in a long time. The fish was extremely dry. The service was slow. On a positive note the cheese curds were very good. Really not worth the 200.00+. I spent there.

Went for an early dinner on a Saturday night about 4:30. Downstairs was quite loud so we went upstairs. We ordered onion strings for an appetizer - they were quite greasy. I ordered an Italian panini - very disappointing. It was a piece of toast with some filling. My friend ordered a pizza - he said it was good. Also ordered a Caesar chicken salad wrap to go. Got home and tried the wrap. The lettuce was wilted and the wrap had very little flavor. The server and hostess were exceedingly sweet but will not go back as the food was definitely not worth it.

Am staying close by for a conference and had a short break. Was seated as a one top and could see the servers decide together no one wanted to take a single. Another patron at another table was kind enough to send a server over after she saw them keep going to check on others. First she walked up and said “sure I’ll take you”. Then she told me that nothing could come out to the kitchen with the short time I had left. I’ve never seen staff so aggressively avoid a table!:)

Horrible experience ! We informed them that we were on a time limit . Managers were very rude and aggressive . I requested a sandwich that was totally wrong . I had to wait for my new sandwich, while my friend already finished her lunch . All I asked for was a discount for their mistake and wait time . I will never eat there again . This is not how a restaurant should be . They actually deserve zero stars . I told them I was going to write a review . I guess they would rather have a unsatisfied customer than give a few dollars off . A good restaurant would have cared about customer satisfaction .

Deliciously prepared food at fair prices. Prime rib is nicely seasoned and tender without being too fatty. Cowboy burger is 1/2 lb patty with cheese and haystack onions and toasted bun. Salmon is a large fillet, once again well seasoned and topped with dill sauce. Soups are gomemade. Try an old fashioned flights for only $12. Friendly and attentive service. Look forward to Sunday afternoons on outside patio wth live music!

The next time I go there I will get a burger. Had the Prime Rib do not waste your money. The burgers are thicker than the Prim Rib. Ordered it medium rare was well done and dry. Lesson learned not the place for Prime Rib. The drinks were awesome. The Chicken was excellent not over cooked. The burgers were flavorful but cold. Was supposed to get a discount if we attended the Wine walk. Did not get that eather. Hopefully this was just a bad day but for my first time there I was disappointed.

Also the seafood Mac and cheese was OK but the sauce was very thin and soup; I would think that for the price it would come with a piece of bread and a salad but no. This was my first time here. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with Sweey Potato Fries. Most excellent! My guest had the build your own burger. Quite sloppy but delicious! Stopped in to check out Gary's Place during lunch. What a great surprise this place was. Friendly staff, great service and excellent food. Along with great atmosphere. Ordered Ruben and the lunch sandwich soup special. The Ruben was one of the best one I have had. Meat was perfectly seasoned and no soggy bread. The sandwich soup special had several options of sandwich choices and was plenty to eat. Soup of the day was creamy chicken dumpling. This was outstanding. Will definitely be back again.
