For the area it is definitely the best Chinese place around. Seeing that I live in Chicago though and frequent China Town often, it's among the best, but I'm not sure about the top 10? It's so subjective...

That said... the fried rice is incredible! The lo mein noodles I wish were the thicker variety, but it's pretty good. It doesn't contain that same wok-hei that the fried rice has. But I'm just really picky... again considering where I actually live.

Got a sizeable dinner for my family who I visited in Oconomowoc. Oconomowoc does have a Chinese place but it doesn't hold a handle to Golden Gate!

It was so satisfying, and I'll definitely be by again even if it's just to cure my fried rice craving. Again... the fried rice here is just perfect! And fried rice is an ACTUAL authentically proper Chinese dish that actually made there.

That's why I prefer China Town in Chicago (a large neighborhood containing restaurants representing almost all regions in China)... real authentic Chinese. Y'all (Waukesha area population) literally don't know what you're missing. Should make the trip and find a place that sells proper Dan Dan Noodles 🍜

If you're getting a carry out order, it's very important that you don't assume the order is correct. I had to take my order back through the bypass construction traffic and they expected me to wait to fix their screw up. I couldn't wait and took my money back. This was my second time eating here in the last 6 months. My first time I thought the food was decent but it seems that you just can’t find really good Chinese food anywhere these days. My friend and I came for lunch and ordered off the menu. My chicken eggfoo young was dark brown and completely dried out could not find any chicken in my patties. The gravy completely tasteless. My friend had sweet and sour chicken and she said it had very little flavor. The chicken was fried in very thick batter that she said was doughy. We had crab rangoon and did enjoy it but I didn’t take my leftovers home and she did. We decided not to eat here again. We keep searching for good Chinese but don’t think it exists anymore like it did years ago.

We have been a long time customer but haven't been there for a while
I was so looking forward to some god food but was very disappointed. Shrimp fried rice was just white rice with very little color or flavor. Sesame chicken very watery no flavor or sesame and we had to add our own sauce to the burnt chicken pieces. Even the egg rolls were over cooked. Most of our face book friends also agree. I know I won't be spending my money there again.

What happened to our beloved Golden gate?! They used to be the place to go, the sesame chicken was sweet and sour chicken with sauce that was lacking in the correct normal sesame flavor. I was disappointed in the food. I ordered on Door Dash for delivery. All the food comes with the sauce in a separate container. The General Tso and Sesame shrimp is basically sweet and sour battered meat then you pour the sauce on once it's delivered and they both tasted almost the same.

This restaurant has come highly recommended for years and I never had the time to give it a try. Today I did and it disappointed greatly. The flavor of everything was either lacking or just off. Chicken fried rice was almost flavorless and a little undercooked. Egg drop soup tasted like hot water. Egg roll had something in it that I thought was mushy potato until I checked and saw that it was some kind of meat. Crab Rangoon had almost no filling and the shrimp dish had way too many peanuts and generally confusing texture. I wouldn't eat here again.

First time here. Several friends have raved about this place. It did not disappoint. Came around 6:30 on a weeknight. Plenty of open tables. The place is well maintained, well lit, and clean.

Got seated right away and attended to by our server. Trisha did a great job the entire meal. So very friendly and attentive.

After getting a beer and tea, we ordered our food. A eggroll that we split, shrimp egg foo young and Mu Shu Beef. Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and generous portions.

The Shrimp Egg Foo Young patties were plump with a nice crisyp edge, with sauce that was not too thick. The Mu Shu Beef had a nice combination of vegetable, beef, with the pancakes and plum sauce.

Definitely a good choice for Chinese Food. The meal was great value, al less than $40.

The only issue that we had was the occasional outburst of noise/cheering from the bar area. There was a sports game on the TV and apparently the bar fans were getting excited. We are not fans of TVs in restaurants.

The place looks like a chill spot to go escape the summer heat and hang out at the bar. There is room for a large family, but mostly cozy for parties of four or less.

My beer was served with a chilled glass, the sodas were large, the Crab Rangoon were fried perfectly, the dishes were all flavorful. General Tso’s Chicken, Cashew Chicken Ding and Shrimp Egg Foo Young. Super hot comfort food.

It only took 30 minutes by streets to get there from Milwaukee. Take a drive sometime!

My colleague and I decided to try out the Tuesday lunch buffet at this restaurant, despite its high rating which turned out to be misleading. We were disappointed by the lackluster experience. The food lacked flavor, with a limited selection that didn't even fill the trays properly. Picked up food for takeout. I’m not sure how this restaurant has such a high rating. The main dishes we ordered were Mongolian beef, beef broccoli, and chicken lo mein. The Mongolian beef and beef broccoli both tasted very similar. They were both set in a gravy that tasted like brown turkey gravy. The meat in all three dishes were tough and tasted very cheap. Very disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. Will not be ordering from here again.

Back in high school, I worked in a Chinese restaurant. As a result, I feel I have high expectations for Chinese food and Golden Gate exceeded them. Their fried rice took me back! It was flavorful, tasty and just the right amount of oil! I often find places use way too much oil or salt. I was thoroughly impressed!  The Beef and broccoli was also very much on point, the egg roll was solid, crispy and still very warm even after my 10 min drive home (take out). They never disappoint! We went for the lunch buffet. It was very busy but only took about 7-8 minutes to be seated. They keep plenty of food on the buffet at all times. The variety is always on point. They provide different options from day to day, so you can look online and know exactly what to expect daily. Because they're constantly replenishing the entrees, everything is hot and fresh! This is why I'm willing to drive all the way across time every time I have the chance. The price is a steal, and they have servers who go above and beyond to keep the tables clean and drinks coming, so the flow of customers doesn't create a backlog. I highly recommend trying them out!

While all Chinese restaurants have some good food, those which also offer normal dine-in service with a menu (versus the mega-buffets and carryout only joints) tend to be of a significantly higher quality, and Golden Gate is no exception to the rule. Every item on their 'small' lunch buffet (Tues-Fri) is delectable with home-cooked quality. Worth every penny!

A friend and I have also ordered a 'Dinner for 2' special from their regular menu and the food was excellent as always. I'd love to try more of their regular menu, but their wonderful little buffet is so tempting and a great value.

I would put 0 stars if I could. First of all when you called to place an order supposedly you’re talking to answering service and not anyone at the actual restaurant. The order was all messed up. The flavor was bland and missing something. Our crab Rangoon was missing from our order. They told us to come back to get it, they wouldn’t offer us any compensation for doing so (20 min drive there and back as well as the gas). They apparently do have dumpling sauce for the dumplings (only soy sauce YUK). The only thing that had some good flavor out of everything was the orange sauce for the orange chicken…. The orange chicken was basically just sweet and sour chicken with an orange flavored sauce. Nothing great about this Chinese restaurant. Save your money and go to Asianas in Pewaukee much better!

I can strongly recommend the Mai Tai drink, and I really like their egg fu yung. (Update) After eating here a few more times, I have some new favorites which are the crab rangoons, and the potstickers, the sauce is a little too salty, but the potstickers are great.
