Wonderful restaurant! From the moment you arrive 15 minutes early, only to discover that you're 45 minutes early, the staff here will take great care of you and make you feel a little less embarrassed. The cocktails are varied and delicious. The wine is limited but covers all the bases well enough. The food though, is the star of the show. Everything was spectacular. I heard that they were known for their lamb, so had that, and it was in the top 3 lamb dishes I've ever had. Tried all our group's dishes and they were all equally superb. Prices are fair for quality food. The vibe is very relaxed. Parking is on the street but fairly easy. Highly recommend this place!

My husband and I went here for dinner and had an outstanding meal. We arrived slightly early for our reservation but the restaurant got us a seat right away. Our waitress was great and thoroughly went over the menu with us as it was our first time there. She made sure the explain what menu items were always there and what ones were just seasonal. We started off with the oyster mushrooms, they were delicious. I ordered the Duroc Pork Chop and my husband got the Skate Cheek. Both were very good. They also had a nice selection of cocktails as well as NA cocktails. My only slight complaint of the whole experience was the oyster mushrooms could have been a bit hotter but even with that I would still definitely get them again. We will certainly be back next time we are in Milwaukee!

Stopped in for dinner after several recommendations. I really enjoyed the spicy crab pasta. I didn’t enjoy the tomato gin drink that was recommended to pair with it.

Had a lovely time at Goodkind in the lovely Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee. Party of 3. First time for me but my guests had been there several times.

Easy street parking. We had early evening reservation and were seated on time in a nice booth with street view. Cute place , nice decor.

Outstanding service- host, servers, food runner, etc were all VERY good- attentive, knowledgeable, professional, friendly. Loved the mocktails and the extensive and creative mocktail and NA beer list.

Good food and creative rotating menu. Good portions served at appropriate temp with reasonable wait time. We started with shared oysters and Cesar salad.

My only food comments—the skate cheeks entree would have been very good except it was saltier than expected or necessary. Not enough to send back but over salted for my taste. I also thought the salad was a little bit overdressed and also a bit salty.

Total tab for 3 including tax, 3% credit card fee and tip was $258.

All in all- I will definitely go back in the future.

We finally checked out Goodkind thanks to a gift certificate and we’re so glad we did! It’s right in our neighborhood, yet somehow we’d never been. The service was outstanding, the drinks were excellent, and every dish was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making the whole experience even better. We had no idea what we were missing! Easily one of the best restaurants in all of Milwaukee.

My new favorite restaurant in MKE! The food was divine and delicious—the mezzaluna pasta and the cod fillet were stand-outs for sure! The service was also amazing, our server was so kind. The ambience is so cozy, perfect for a Sunday night dinner or date night. Also, the butterfly pea flower gin and tonic is one of the best cocktails I've ever had!

An amazing restaurant. The food is so good and interesting and the cocktails are delicious. Its a super cute place where you could easily spend a long time enjoying food and drink. I know they are committed to clean and local food practices and the seasonal menus are so fun.
Not celiac friendly, shared kitchen. They do a good job reducing cross contamination as they can, I am low sensitivity.

A destination restaurant that’s worth booking ahead and making the trip from out of state. The food and cocktail offerings are creative, delicious, and varying in a way that could make these folks pompous and pretentious, but Goodkind is just that: both good and kind. Ask your server for advice about dishes and drinks and you’ll get good advice. We love the changing list of cocktails with intriguing names and even more intriguing flavors, like “when the Walls Came Down” and “Prince with a Thousand Enemies.” Burger night is a good way to mix it up on Tuesdays, too. We have come back many times, and we will return.

The customer service was amazing. They were really friendly and attentive. I got the GK burger. The Picture looked better than it tasted. The green tomato added absolutely nothing to the burger and it was missing some seasoning. The burger does not come with fries. You have to order that separately. The fries are nine dollars. Overall the place is pretty expensive. I paid close to $40 for beer fries and a burger. I’m not sure if I will come back just because the food was underwhelming despite being pretty pricey. However, the drink menu looks interesting and intriguing. Also, the restaurant is pretty crowded and small. It seems as though they tried to squeeze too many chairs and tables in such a small space and it was loud, which is probably due to it being so many people crowded in such a small space

Visited yesterday (friday) night around normal dining hours. I did some research before hand and was really excited for this place as it had good reviews. Unfortunately, for me and my partner this was an absolute miss. The service was slow and the waitress was not personable. The menu was simple which I tend to enjoy, but the dishes themselves are complex. I ordered the carbonara and my partner ordered the short rib. The carbonara was watery. The dish definitely could have used some seasoning. The meat amount was slim and most of the pieces were fat. There is a large amount of green that is added to the top that is oddly a little too long, so when you eat it like spaghetti it catches in your throat. my partners dish was really fatty and the served in what looked like soup. It really threw him off with how gritty and fatty the dish was overall. Really wanted to love this place, cute location and interior. Just expensive for the experience, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the appetizers, but the food was great, would definitely recommend and go back.

We shared the Champagne Battered Oyster Mushrooms and the Duck and (I think it was pork) Meat Balls for appetizers. Both were great, mushrooms were crisply with a hint of champagne with the honey vinaigrette balancing out the dish. The meat balls were tender and juicy.

For mains we had the Spicy Crab Pasta and Fennel Pollen Dry Brined Amish Chicken. Both were fantastic. The Spicy Crab was the perfect amount of spiciness, albeit I can eat pretty spicy so ymmv on the spice level, the ragu was flavourful and had nice body to it. The chicken was super tender and full of flavour. I can see why it is one of their best sellers.

We also had the Chocolate Stout Cake and the Mocha Eclair Cake for dessert. We unanimously preferred the Mocha Eclair Cake over the Stout Cake.

All in all we very much enjoyed our night there and would recommend to all visiting Milwaukee.

6 of us went for dinner at Goodkind. We ordered a handful of small and large plates (oysters, Caesar salad, fries, halibut, spicy crab pasta, pork belly, Amish chicken, and the chocolate cake). Overall, the food was excellent. Good portion sizes, well spaced, and delicious. The spicy crab pasta was the crowd favorite. We sat near the kitchen, which was a bit more crowded than I expected, but overall we had an excellent time and great meal.

We had reservations and were seated immediately when we arrived. The service was extraordinary, and the food was spectacular. My daughter had the spicy crab bucatini, a regular menu item, and my wife had the linguine carbonara; both pastas were cooked perfectly. I had the duck breast, which was expertly seasoned and cooked medium rare, as it should be served. Our appetizer of deep fried oyster mushrooms is something I will have as often as I visit, so long as it is on the menu, and the charcuterie selection was wonderful. The craft cocktails from the bar were delicious, and we finished the evening with two splendid desserts, a cherry Basque cake and a rhubarb-almond cake. You will not be disappointed by your experience.

I just gotta say that this place is Q.U.A.L.I.T.Y. The food is unique, exceptionally creative, with exquisite flavor. The matter in which how quickly the food comes out to you is also very impressive considering how artistic and flavorful the food is. Usually places take 20+ minutes and up to get your food once you make your order but here you get it in less than that, even with a full house. How do they do it!? The staff is very friendly and attentive. My server last night did an exceptional job of caring for us and meeting our needs on my birthday, GREAT JOB CJ! This is one of my go to restaurants in Milwaukee.

Came with some coworkers for a post-work dinner, and we all loved our food! We walked in at 5:30, and we were able to be accommodated at the chef’s table despite not having a reservation. We had mussels and sourdough bread to start, and the broth the mussels was in was incredible! I had the carbonara, and while I wish it was a bit creamier, it was still absolutely delicious. I also had a mocktail that was tasty and exactly what I had hoped for. Our server was amazing, and we honestly wanted to ask her to join us for our meal — she just matched our vibe! Definitely will be back!

I UNDERSTAND THE 5 STAR REVIEWS NOW. Must-try in Milwaukee!! Probably the best food I’ve ever had in MKE, and that’s saying something.
We were hoping to wing it on Valentine’s Day and got seats at the bar after a 30-45 min wait (where we just wandered around Groppi’s Italian market). Staff was very kind, and the VIBES were incredible. That’s what you’re really paying for here. The decor is super cute and unique, the environment is very warm. And, sound does NOT bounce off of the walls, so you can hear your party perfectly clearly above the noise of other diners. 11/10 experiences and can’t wait to come back again.

Really cute cozy restaurant in Bayview. Excellent food. The cocktail list is diverse, complex, and exciting. They only allowed 90 minutes for our reservation which is the only down side. We’re out of town and maybe not quite as fast as in town regulars. It was cool they allowed us more time but we still didn’t have time for dessert. Not the end of the world though. Idk. Maybe there’s a way they can tweak it to allow more time for out of town folks? Our server was chill and even split our check up without us asking which was super cool on her since I know that’s time consuming. She was also very conscious of the vegan at our table. Def a gem of a place!

First time here. And we were very impressed (mostly).

Make a reservation and got in right away. It was early Saturday night and the place was full. It's an interesting layout and design. Has a hip, art-deco vibe going on. Nicely lit and lot of interesting items to check out (wallpaper, plants, vases, etc). What we also noticed right away was both the noise level and how close the tables are.

Our server got to us right away, and did an amazing job the entire night, checking in, clearing plates, getting drinks, and hot water my the tea. Thanks Eric!

We got the Brussel Sprout Salad, along with the Meatballs, and Trout. All were excellent. Lot of flavors, textures, and good portions. I would say that it is the best Pan Seared Trout that I have ever had.

Didn't have room for dessert, but maybe next time.

Would love to come back. But the crowding of the tables, and the noise level, was less than optimal. Felt like we were part of 3 different conversations. It was a little hard to ignore. We might try another night, other than a busy Saturday night.

There are many intriguing dishes to choose from, so it can be difficult to decide. Our party of four chose two orders of the chicken liver pate to share as an appetizer, and for entrees, 3 orders of leg of lamb and one pork belly.
The chicken liver was good, but could have used a bit more of the pickled onion, which provided much needed acidity to the richness of the pâté. A satisfying start.
I was one of the 3 that had the lavender and anchovy crusted leg of lamb with squash and butter beans. The unusual crust was delicious and something I never had before. The lamb was served off the bone and was mostly tender at a medium cook. Unfortunately, about a third of the meat on the plate had so much gristle, it was inedible. The portion of lamb was large, so I still had my fill amongst the edible meat.
The stars of the plate for me were the butter beans, which were well seasoned and crispy, almost prepared like home fried potatoes.
Our companion who ordered the pork belly was disappointed when all of our meals came to the table, as it appeared very small compared to the other entrees. He said although the flavor was great, the pork belly was too tough for his liking. He stated that he was still hungry after eating it all.
Our excellent server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks were all well crafted and a bit strong, so no complaints there.
The atmosphere is cozy and busy. Great for a date or a few friends.
Overall I will definitely return to try other items on the menu, which changes daily, aside from some consistent favorites. It’s clear this restaurant has great aspirations and takes some risks.
Even with a few disappointments in the dishes, I am excited to return, and that says something!

A great supper club in BayView. While the food was pretty good, I think this is more of a trendy spot for drinks/apps, rather than a true supper club experience.

Chicken Liver Mousse: 3/5 Good, but not as flavorful or rich as Le Reve. The crackers were a bit mealy and salty. Could’ve benefited from a super thin cracker.

Little Neck Clams: 2/5 Way, way too salty. The combination of seafood + bacon is always dangerous, and unfortunately the salt added up.

Pork Belly: 4/5 Our favorite dish. A nice blend of salt, sweet, and varied texture. The addition of the apple was nice. The bread crumbs were a bit soggy, but I’m not sure if this was the chef’s intention. Would happily get this again.

Spicy Crab Pasta: 3-3.5/5 A surprisingly nice amount of spice with a generous portion of crab. Not a stand out, but definitely not disappointing.

Lamb: 3.5/5 A bit salty, but paired well with the chili crisp. The cook was perfect, would order again.

Amish Chicken: 3.5/5 Again, on the salty side and portions of the breast were dry. Other portions of the dark meat were great. The crisp on the skin was perfect, but each bite seemed to be hit or miss.

Atmosphere: this place is a shoebox with little to break up sound. It is loud - I think getting a drink with apps at the bar is where this place shines. For a true supper club experience, there are better places out there in MKE.

We returned to Goodkind, and it will be our last time. Perhaps Goodkind has a new chef, or we were spoiled by our trip to San Francisco, but our food was not good. I had two bites of my Skate dish and stopped eating. The fish had been drowned in assorted stuff, and I couldn’t discern any distinctive flavor other than some innocuous sauce. My wife’s Spicy crab pasta didn’t have much crab, and the spice overwhelmed any taste of the pasta. It too was drowned out by the sauce. This isn’t refined cooking.

I had forgotten Goodkind does not offer any simple bar food. Even their burger is only offered once a week. Their menu items lean towards creative cuisine, but their creations lack technique and refinement. However, Goodkind is always packed with eager diners enjoying this kitchen’s food. Thus, I’m not their target audience. Goodkind isn’t cheap either. For two entrees, one cocktail and one glass of wine, our bill came to over $100.00. Go figure. Service leans towards smug with a touch of Bay View down to earth.

If you are looking for something new to try, Goodkind’s seasonal menu offers some interesting and unconventional dishes. The experience is not bad. But I wouldn’t call it fantastic either. The plates are on the small side even with the “big plates” which can be a good thing for you to try different dishes but not friendly on the wallet. Cocktails are palatable. We had some Asian inspired cocktails: matcha infused rum, shoju, goji berry infused vodka. We had seaweed chips, chicken liver mousse, trout, charred avocado coconut curry grits, a tomato 🍅 upside down cake with miso caramel glaze..

Goodkind was highly recommended by people who know good food. Our first, surely not last, visit was excellent. We enjoyed the entire experience! I had made a reservation in error for the night after we intended to visit. They were pleasant about the mix-up and able to accommodate us at an outdoor table. The wait staff was relaxed, professional, and informative. They obviously understood what the focus of the restaurant was and easily made recommendations. The succotash, housemade bread and butter, spicy pasta, Amish chicken and dessert were all very good. A special shout out to that Amish chicken. Without a doubt it was the best chicken I have ever eaten. It was a large portion and the leftovers 2 days later were just as tasty. With tip and 2 drinks, our meal was approximately $200. If a restaurant wanted to make sure someone never wants to come back, they’d treat their guests like we were treated at Goodkind!
We were a group of eight well dressed 40+ professionals and we all eat out a lot in and around Milwaukee - and none of us was rude, drunk or disrespectful. We had a table booked for eight people and when we arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation time, we were instantly greeted by a snooty Millennial hostess with the words “we are happy you are here but please get out of the way”. We were told to order a drink and then wait outside. It was pretty chilli (Wisconsin in April) and many of us didn’t have a warm coat! When a few of us tried to squeeze into a corner by the bar, we were told off again like a bunch of naughty children. When we finally got our table, the service improved until we were told that we were too loud and that other diners had complained. There was only one other table in our area of the restaurant and when we apologized to the other table in case they felt bothered by us, they said they never complained.
The entire restaurant was super loud so that we could barely hear each other. Why our table was singled out and told off for being loud, is again very weird. It was almost like they were mad at us for eating there - weird given that we spent close to $1000 at our table.
The food was ok but not good enough to justify the rudeness of the staff. It’s too bad because the place has a lot of good things going for it.
The one shout out is to the nice cocktail waitress who made wonderful cocktails and very pleasant and polite!!

We ate here on 3/9. The food, cocktails and the service were amazing. Knocking a star off for the hostess who told us we needed to be out of there by a certain time. The kitchen got backed up so courses were coming out a little slow. This normally doesn’t bother me but since the hostess told us when we had to be gone, it ruined my ability to enjoy the entree and dessert as I was worried about getting out of there on time. It shouldn’t be something the hostess puts onto the patrons. It was our first time there and I am not sure about returning.

Food was good, salted heavily which took away from the other aspects of the meal. Service was sparse as I ate at the bar and did not feel like getting a drink so it felt as if I was treated as an afterthought. Atmosphere was buzzing however very cramped and music was too quiet to hear but too loud to tune out

Goodkind served me some of the best restaurant food I had in months. I'm extremely excited to take on new restaurants for you all in Mke. The staff was a 10/10 every person was friendly, timely, and knowledgeable. They greeted and seated us in a very populated area of the bar so we ordered cocktails immediately. They had a very impressive menu that out scaled most Chicago restaurants in prowess. The chef exceeded himself when our food arrived and the presentation and attention to detail were demonstrated very well. I would give them more than five stars if I could. They are located in Bay View so it is a drive, however they are one the best I've had so far and it's definitely worth it!

Unbelievable. What this group of chefs can do with a beet is truly some kind of mystical business. The stuff of legends. Don’t miss burger night on Tuesdays; it’s like no “burger” night you’ve ever tasted. This is like you took the idea of a pizza farm and went hog wild. Good luck going wherever you’re going if you’re not going to Goodkind

I was excited to try a new restaurant this weekend. This one came up as a related search when looking at places similar to Birch. It was easy to make a reservation and stated multiple places about a 90 minute table duration which is fine. We got there and were immediately reminded of the 90 minute limit.

We received a visit right away from our server who gave us time to check out the menus and came back shortly to get drink orders. Service was quick in the beginning.

The food: spicy(???) crab pasta was subpar and pretty disappointing. I could’ve rationalized it if either the crab or the pasta was delicious which neither were. The crab was cold and watery when I could even find it and the pasta was just pasta. The Brussels sprout salad was delicious! Served on the least convenient plate and half of the food spilled off the side for both my table and the table next to us.

It took forever to get any type of attention after we had our meals. This was particularly odd to me because of the strict time limit. It felt like forever until we had a dessert menu and wow was that butter cake not good. Skip it and go get a dessert drink at at random nearby.

Overall a meh experience with weird vibes. It felt like we were getting less service because we were asking so little and focus was moved to larger tables or more picky eaters. Will not be returning

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee, I told everyone to go eat here. Unfortunately, the food quality and menu offerings have gone down hill since my last visit. I ordered the spicy crab pasta. It had the slightest dusting of crab and the flavor got lost in the spicy sausage. The shallots in the mignonette sauce for the oysters tasted old and not fresh. The oyster mushroom app was just ok. I used to dine here and everything was exceptional. What happened? I'm so bummed.

The food here was incredible. I got the Amish chicken and it was delicious and tender!

I am knocking the points off for service and potentially giving me the wrong drink. I made reservations for 7pm and the hostess gave us our table 15 minutes late. It wasn’t even that busy yet either. So we just waited at the bar until the hostess was ready to seat us on the already empty table.

My friend and I ordered an NA drink but she added a shot of tequila to hers. I am sober and don’t drink alcohol, however, I believe the server gave me the one with the tequila shot. I couldn’t taste the alcohol (and neither did my friend in her drink -we tried checking), but towards the end of dinner I had a headache and felt very weird/tipsy. I have a feeling she gave me an alcoholic drink, and I am pretty upset about it.

Also, I understand the idea of pre-bussing, but I found it very rude (maybe it’s a cultural thing) how our server didnt ask if she could take away our plates …she just grabbed them all willy nilly while there were people still half way in their meal. It felt very awkward to have everyone be empty handed while I was still eating, like my plate was the only plate on the table (we are a party of 4).

They have a policy of 90 minutes per a reservations but they were late to seat us by 15 minutes and already trying to push us out. And likely giving me an alcoholic drink… not happy about that.

But the cooks, chefs and back of the house…outstanding!! Amazing food!!

Cozy!

The server was pleasant and helpful and just the right amount of attention. Generous pot of hot tea with offers for second steeping, right on time. Dining room management checked on us. A rare dedication to quality service all around. Respect!

Girlfriend had the Amish Chicken, and I had the Linguini. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It was moist and tender and deliciously seasoned. Vegetables were not overcooked. Linguini was cooked perfectly. It was also delicious with great texture.
Overall, the food was not exotic, but the cooking was high level, inspired, and rewarding. Flavors were subtly complex and interesting. So, though the dishes may fall into the comfort food category, it was far beyond standard comfort food.

We love all kinds of inspired cooking and have enjoyed touring the great Milwaukee restaurants. This is an excellent restaurant that we will enjoy dining at in the future. We appreciate that the food is accessible to the less adventurous diner. This will be a great place to take friends and family when they visit.

We got lucky that a friend gave us this recommendation for our date night in MKE (from Chicago). The food was incredible. Our server, CJ, was an absolute dream.

The Amish chicken, spicy crab pasta, and mushroom appetizer were all amazing. Desserts were so hard to choose between. The entire vibe is perfectly curated and so wonderful.

Do not pass up the opportunity to hang out inside either of the adorable bathrooms.

4/29/18: I will not be coming here again. I gave it another chance and I had another poor experience. The staff was inattentive and not knowledgeable about the menu. My friend ordered the spaghetti squash due to a gluten intolerance and after receiving it and trying some, found a lot of rice in it! When we asked our waiter about this, he replied that they changed the dish but have not updated it in the menu. Negligent. I also ordered wine that the same waiter said was different, but good. He failed to tell me this specific wine has a lot of sediment in it so when I asked him why I just got a mouth full of disgusting sediment, he said that that's something the vineyard calls the "tee hee" because it's like a trick?! The scallops I had were okay but spaghetti squash had such little sqash it it that we couldn't taste it and the dish just had a foul taste. It's also incredibly dark inside and very loud. I don't know how this place has the rating it does because anyone who I talk to about goodkind tells me they had a poor experience as well. There are much better restaurants in the area with similar prices, I recommend any of them over this.

Original review: Cute place. Food was generally good but the pork roast literally had more fat on it than meat. Maybe it was just a bad cut. Otherwise the ricotta gnudi and chocolate stout mousse were great. But they claim their specialty is rotisserie and it was the worst part of the meal so they have some work to do. Especially for the price.

We are regulars and took friends we have not seen in years 4/28/23. We were reminded we only had 1.5 hour reservation and were "politely" rushed through dinner. We were told we could not have desert because our time was up so we went to The Knick. Food is creative but premade and lukewarm. Appears Goodkind is losing focus on the guest's experience over #s.

The food, drinks, and service were all fantastic! The only issue I had, that I'm hoping was just simple oversight, was with the plate itself. My entree was served on a dish with two separate large chips in it. I'm hoping they see this and get rid of plates that are damaged. It's not only visually unappealing, but also more difficult to get fully clean since the raw ceramic is pourus. I didn't want to bother telling my server since everything else was incredible, and this is by no means any reason to not dine with them again.

Goodkind is a great local "neighborhood" eatery nestled in the Bay View area. Cozy, homey, and warm are all words I would use to describe the ambiance created when entering Goodkind. I certainly thought one of the highlights of the meal was our service. We had a very attentive staff who bustled about the small space with ease and somehow danced around one another with grace while bringing dishes out to the masses. I appreciate that the last time we were here, Goodkind was still getting its legs, but a mainstay is the spicy crab pasta. A mound of crab atop a mountain of pasta with pepperoni and a slightly spicy sauce. I also thoroughly enjoyed the broasted chicken. Oh my, it was one of the best, juiciest chickens I have had in a while. I was hoping for a red meat selection, but alas, none was to be had the evening we were there. That does speak to how they source their food, and I do appreciate that they maintain high standards for quality. The gataeu for dessert was also a mainstay and should not be missed if you have a sweet tooth. Judging by how busy our sitting was, it is no wonder Goodkind will be around for a long time to come!

An amazing, vast drink menu of well thought-out craft cocktails, with all ingredients complimenting each other extremely well. Not to mention the very cool option to buy the staff a round of post-work drinks for $20. The environment is very cozy and welcoming, and extremely tastefully decorated with antique and vintage accents and knick-knacks galore. Take a good look around and soak it all up!

The food here is some of the very best casual upscale dining I've ever had, comparable to the best of fine dining- using local, seasonal ingredients and featuring an ever-changing menu. The menu literally had the current date stamped on it.
The seaweed chips are a must order, as are the brussel sprouts salad, and we very much enjoyed the sourdough bread cheese and venison Carpaccio. For mains we had the very satisfying Spicy crab pasta, and the pancetta (yummy crispy) carbonara. On a previous visit we had their featured burger of the night, which was lights out fantastic. Literally every drink and food item we ordered was perfection. You can really tell they consider every detail when placing an item, be it drink or food, on their menu. The love shines thru in every detail here. Can't recommend it enough. And the staff is fantastic! This is a must visit every time I visit Milwaukee going forward!
