Pizza exceeded our expectations! It was quite great from the dough on up. The two young ladies running the place were really charming, happy and friendly. Service to our table was excellent and efficient, though we were upstairs and it was very busy.
The deck was wonderful, with a nice view and fresh breezes from the bay.
It's not fancy by any means, but if you're looking for a really good pizza and a cold beer in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere, Grampa Tony's won't disappoint. Great value too, considering the location!

Took the family here to get some ice cream, one of our family members has a severe nut allergy, which makes getting ice cream pretty difficult. When I explained this to the young woman working though, she explained the whole system they use, fresh scoop and they go in the back and get the ice cream from a fresh container. We are so grateful for a business like this.

My husband said his pizza was good. I had chicken Caesar salad. Salad and dressing was good, I did not eat the chicken. It was barely browned and seemed a little sketchy. We asked for to go so we could eat outside. We realized after the fact that they charged us $2 for to go order yet they brought it outside on glass plates. Outside area was a little uncared for.

This is our kids' fav spot, it's a great place to sit and eat. The service is also excellent. We're a chaos of orders (This one! Ooh! Actually this one!) but they are always patient with us. We also bought some souvenir shirts and accidentally tipped on them, and they were so patient about reversing the transaction and letting us redo it.

We had a breakfast and lunch at this refreshing and efficient restaurant close to the ferry landing. The BLT on their home made bread was the best I have ever had. The veggie omelet was great and their ice cream was some of the best we have had in a long time. Dark cherry and chocolate were delicious together. Staff were very friendly and the quality of their food was excellent even though they were slammed with customers. The bathroom was clean and accessible. An upper deck with views was provided as well as indoor dining, though we preferred to eat under the shade trees. We loved the generosity of the proprietor in providing numerous Adirondack chairs under the cool shade of trees. We ate at two other popular restaurants during our stay and Grandpa Tony's was definitely the best by every criterion for judging a restaurant.

We had an amazing Italian Beef sandwich sandwich here that lingered on our minds because of how good it was. The only complaint with food is that the chocolate milk for my child was spoiled and their grilled cheese is just cheese melted onto the same bread as their other sandwiches.
The staff seemed new and somewhat inexperienced, but they did a decent job and were very polite.

Recently stayed in Bayfield for Apple Fest 2022. We went over to Madeline Island and visited Grampa Tony's for dinner. Not only did we have fantastic pizza, but we had great conversation with the owner. He really made the experience that much better. Important to know: there can be a wait for food, but it is worth the wait!

We stopped this afternoon, and there was a line for both the food order line and the ice cream line. Both seemed to be moving along just fine. The person taking our order was courteous and helpful, even though it was clear that it has been a very busy day with less than usual staff levels.

We tried the Italian Sub, served on toasted garlic bread. Really a fantastic choice! The bread was toasted on the inside with garlic butter and the cheese was melted into the meat. 😋

Was it crazy busy? Yes. However, this is a good problem to have sometimes. However, I can say that it is clear that they take pride in their product. We'll visit again!

The day we went they had closed down temporarily to restock which I thought was odd, but we waited around for it because there's not much else available on the island for food. Pizza took a bit longer than we expected, but not too bad. My only other recommendations for improvement would be to include some sugar-free ice cream options, and to have the outdoor chairs cleaned (as they were a bit sticky/messy and attracting bees).

I thought it was a little pricey at first glance, but no more so than any of the other options. When our food arrived, though, it was better than I was expecting. The kids meal hot dogs were pretty big, and came on a toasted roll. The chicken sandwich came with some nice produce and a toasted roll, not a standard bun. The turkey sub was pretty big, and came on some kind of cibatta garlic bread. It was pretty decent. The price is definitely reflected in what they're serving.

Easily one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. At first I shook my head at the $15 bucks for a garlic burger, but when I got it I was floored. A perfect location with a great view and family friendly ambiance. Also they have bent paddle beer on tap for any Duluth brewery lovers!

Seating and getting your food is a but chaotic if it's busy as you seat yourself outside, on the upper deck, or inside and the serves have to run around to find you. Even with the chaos, our food came out in 10 to 15 minutes.

The outdoor seating is in oversized lawn chairs that you can freely move around the grassy area, ideal for catching shade and a breeze and being dog friendly.

They have a coffee and ice cream bar. The fruit smoothies were still chilling around noon, and were not available when I visited.

Grandpa Tony’s treated us well for our stay on the Island. The first night we had ice cream which was excellent. As there aren’t too many restaurants on the island, we also tried them out for breakfast. With COVID-19 they had a limited menu so I had the breakfast burrito and my fiancé had the breakfast sandwich. The burrito was nothing special, but the sandwich was definitely the better of the 2. After coming back from hiking in Big Bay, Beach clubs kitchen was still closed so we opted for Grandpa Tony’s pizza. We just got a large pepperoni pizza, but it was the perfect after hiking meal! Overall a great spot to spend your money while on the island.
