Two couples went for Tuesday date night. We had the sweet corn pizza and the Finocchio pizza. Both were quite bland and the crusts were very mushy. We had the sticky ginger cake for dessert and it was dry and not very tasty and not "sticky" at all. The atmosphere and employees were very nice, but this is our second time there with lackluster food, so we won't be going back.

Had pork confit and brassacrei. Both were excellent. Love the mint and pickled jalepeno in the pork confit.
Great service. The pork confit came out late and our waiter (Parker) offered us a discount, as well as additonal cookies on the house. He was attentive just to the right extent (not checking in overtly frequently).
Music could've been better.

I’ve eaten here several times and always loved the pizza. The value is solid, with generous portions for the price, and the service has consistently been excellent. The atmosphere is unique and fun—I enjoy that it feels like dining in a cozy room of a house rather than a big open space. It makes for a more intimate experience, perfect for good conversation without all the background noise. Truly some of the best pizza around, hands down.

Overall a great place if you're looking for a farm to table experience. Our waiter was so knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations. We had 4 pizzas and two small plates for 6 people and took home leftovers. Our reservation seemed to be on a time limit though as there were more tables going in. Understandably a popular place, just wish there was more seating and time to spend at our table with our bigger group!

We went to Grampa's pizza and sat outside. The staff were very nice, helpful and attentive. Unfortunately the pizza was below average. It was exceptionally greasy and the thin crust, which I would have expected to be a bit crispy, was rather soggy. The flavor, once you got past the layer of oil on the surface, was pretty good. The shortbread cookies that come with the bill were a nice touch, though. If the pizza had not been saturated with grease it would have easily been a 4 star experience. Maybe other pizzas there are less greasy.

Our new favorite spot in Madison for a good kick of spice from the octopus and Calabrian chiles on the arugula ricotta pizza. The pizza is light and thin. We also enjoyed the beef carpaccio. But for me, the highlight was the ginger cake. Freshly baked (warm on the inside) with whipped cream and pistachios. Flavors are spot on, not too sweet, not too spicy, just right. We also had the risotto which was delicious and comforting - also perfectly cooked al dente.

Not very good..What started off as a pleasant atmosphere turned into a “how will our food come out?” Will B., our server was attentive, but it was just not enough. We had originally ordered the Shroom pizza with the pepperoni pizza, but the kitchen messed up on the shroom pizza by adding chicken to it. My husband had a byo, which was not messed up. My pepperoni came with shroom mushrooms, and a topping to it, which was messed up from Will.
By this time, my husband, and I had eaten enough pizza, and were ready for our dessert. My husband, and I had boxed up the shroom and pepperoni pizza, and Will put in another order of what should have been the shroom pizza, and pepperoni pizza. 🥵 While there may have not been a lot of communication with the kitchen and wait staff, that isn’t really the guest’s problem.
On our way back from Gramp’s, we realized that my “Pepperoni” pizza had had been messed up a second time! The kitchen had put olives, and leeks on it, when I had specifically told Will, no leeks or olives!
Needless to say, we will probably not be back. I think I was fair in my tip, but part of me wishes that I would have thoroughly looked over our “to go” pizzas before I did that.

P.s Desserts were just o.k.

This place is a little slice of local heaven. I work a few blocks away an never knew about it until portnoy scored it well. This is my kind of pie. Cracker thin crust with a well balanced gourmet topping. The service only elevated the experience. The non alcoholic drink options are limited but the server gave me a glass of his personal earl grey on ice which was an indication this place treats you like family. I have already recommended it to many!

Dining at Grampa's Pizzeria in Madison is an absolute treat! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual meal with family or friends. The pizzas are a standout, with a perfectly crispy crust, rich and flavorful sauce, and generous toppings that make every bite a delight.
And don't miss out on their chocolate mousse – it's the best in town! Creamy, decadent, and the perfect way to end your meal.
The friendly staff add to the overall wonderful dining experience, always welcoming you with a smile and providing top-notch service.
Highly recommend Grampa's Pizzeria for a fantastic dining.

Usually the pizza is top tier. Super flavorful and a good and balanced distribution of toppings.

Tonight, not so much.

I was really surprised at the lack of brussel sprouts on the brussel sprout pizza.

And the cheese wasn't completely melted. Which wasn't that horrible, I'd planned to reheat it anyway.

It wasn't completely cut, or really cut at all.

I'm hoping this is just an aberration.

Last week I had friends from out of town visiting Madison and I suggested we go to my favorite local pizza place : Grampa’s .

Cannot believe I had not left a review as I have been coming here for years and they have been my go to take out pizza place . I have brought friends , family and business colleagues here .

This is not your traditional pizza place . It is not thick crust , it’s not deep dish and it’s not Neapolitan . All of which I enjoy , but this place is unique . Not only is the crust thin but the toppings are specially crafted to create a memorable combination of flavors .

From their menu I have had every pizza flavor . Each topping has been selected and all go so well together . Seasonally (depending on what’s in season) they offer a unique flavor , like summer corn or fall turnip .

Tonight we chose Jambroni which I always add their chicken sausage and the Barbarini with extra watercress on top . Best part about the offering here is the availability of gluten free crust on the menu .

When dining in the staff is exceptionally friendly and know all about the flavor combinations. When doing take out the service is fast and I have never experienced any delay .

On occasion they have a shortbread rosemary butter cookie which is given at the end of the meal and it’s so tasty .

Five stars to this institution of specialty non traditional pizza in Madison .

The pizza was fine—nothing to write home about. Expensive, but I guess that’s to be expected on the Isthmus. At least if you’re going to charge that much, maybe invest in a wood-fired oven to give some flavor. Also, the dining area is small, so be sure to make a reservation… at the pizza restaurant.

We ordered pizzas for take out. The Finocchio was quite good but the Goomba was so salty as bordering on inedible. The real issue is the online menu pricing has not been updated. We thought our bill was $35 and it turned out be $46. This seems steep for 12" pizzas. When brought to the attention of the staff, all I got was a shrug.

Some of the best pizza I’ve had in my life, hands down. Chefs in the kitchen on 11/09/2024 were on fire! Give them a raise. Our waiter, Monney, kept the delicious food coming. Give him a raise too. We ordered the roasted veggies, market salad, and Brassacre, Goomba, and Peperoni pies. Topped it off with sticky ginger cake. Bravo! I will recommend to all the pizza lovers I know.

The food here, the pizza specifically, is excellent. The service, looks like it varies due to the servers personal perception of your party. She dotes on young people, seems to ignore older couples, maybe cuz she is young. Saves on the tip money though. I would stop again if I found myself in Madison just for the pizza. Might get it to go and save her from being bothered to wait on us.

This is a very cute, little restaurant which was perfect for date night. The interior isn’t very large, but they also had outdoor seating. I ordered the Goomba pizza and it was so delicious. It was a perfect combination of garlic, mushrooms, and white sauce. They cooked it perfectly where it had crust but was still soft. I will mention they overcooked my boyfriend’s pizza, but my pizza was amazing. I would come back again and I recommend making a reservation since there isn’t a ton of seating.

All food was very good. Atmosphere was cozy. Only issue was our waitress brought out the wrong appetizer and when we brought it up to her she asked if that appetizer was something we were really excited to try and if we’d like her to bring it out for us. It made us feel like it was our fault, I feel as though she should have just apologized and been like “I’ll get that out for you right away.” She also charged us for the appetizer that she mistakenly gave to us (it was $18) and seemed upset when we asked for it to be taken off the bill. I would return though the food was really good!

A hidden gem! One of the best pizza experiences, with personalized and speedy service in a unique atmosphere—it's set in a former gun store! There's plenty of street parking available too. Highly recommended!

A little pizza place that draws you in with charming ambiance, but leaves a lot to be desired with the pizza. While some of the toppings were pretty good, the sauce was non existent. Thin crust style and done well, but some spots of the pizza were bare with no sauce or cheese. Expected more from a place with a ~$20 price tag on each 12" pizza.

The staff was helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere was charming. We got the garden salad and seasonal sweet corn pizza. The salad was fresh and mostly good, though it had a bit too much going on. Seemed more like a salad I would make on a "fridge clean out" night than a pre-planned assortment. The dressing was well balanced, however. The sweet corn pizza was recommended to us by our server and said it's a popular favorite. The crust was thin, chewy, and crispy which was what I like in a coal fired pizza. The corn was good though it was a bit sparse for being the titular ingredient. Pizza was good, would have been GREAT with more corn and a little bit of acid (lemon squeeze to finish?) Overall, grateful to the staff in BOH and FOH and look forward to coming back and trying more.

There are far and few restaurants that I take the time to review. Last night I had the joy to visit this restaurant. I was very impressed at the flavor balance in the dishes I tried. The risotto is a huge standout, as more often than not, truffle risotto is overwhelmed by the flavor of the oil, but not here. It easily serves 2-3 people as a starter portion, or 4 if you eat a thimble. The pizza was delicate and shattering with every bite, in the best possible way. The depth of flavor that the pork had was only complemented by the pungent gorgonzola. It was delicious but could have been cut with a bit of lemon zest, or a peppadew pepper. Regardless, I still very much enjoyed most aspects of my meal. The only downside is the space layout, as the restaurant dining area is small inside. I highly recommend this place for their well-calibrated dishes.

Decent pizza with very rude servers. If you ever eat from here just get takeout, or find a place with nicer servers. The servers seemed like they wanted to kick us out for any reason including for buying their alcohol that they then didn't recognize once a sticker was removed because they put a completely different sticker on the outside depicting a different drink than what they were selling.
They also have planned parenthood ads posted on their cash register for some reason.

Went for dinner last night. It was a Monday evening and crowded was thin. Nevertheless I called ahead to book a table and was seated by the window. Small cute place.

My dining mate had an amber ale and I had the sweet red wine to kick off our dinner. The wine was good. It tasted more like sprite mixed with red wine - sweet and sparkling.

We ordered the pork confit for appetizer. Served in a small iron skillet, the pork was very in tender and delicious. It is not unlike pulled pork except you do the pulling apart. Served with slices of bread, brown mustard sauce and pickles peppers. Watch out for the peppers. They are spicy!

We also shared a beet salad which was also wonderful. It is probably one of the better beet salad I've had. A mixed of red and orange beets with some greens. Lovely to look at and tasty.

For the main dish we shared a Jabroni pizza with Italian sausage. I love the thin crust since I'm on a low carb diet. The cut up basil leaves were fresh and not baked or burnt. The chili flakes weren't distributed evenly so some parts were spicy and some weren't. It was delicious still. I would love this more if the pesto wasn't baked because it appears more brown/black instead of fresh green.

I would still recommend this place for dinner.

Recommend carry out or something because service was not the greatest, server would ask a question and instead of waiting for us to answer she would just say I will be right back and will not be back for 20 - 30 minutes it was a relatively slow evening with lost of staff and lots of empty tables it was just two of us that she was serving and her timing and responses were not the greatest.
I will be back soon for more food and hopes of better service.

Small quaint restaurant with great vegetarian choices. The beet salad is amazing! Pair it with a cheese board and the Goomba pizza and you won’t be disappointed. If you have to wait for a table, the specialty cocktail business next door is handy. Both of these businesses operate out of houses, which makes the experience fun and unique.

Went in to order a pizza and first they said I had to wait 40 min. Then the manager came in, an in a very rude tone, said "No, it will take 2 to 3 hours". Of course I left but I was never treated so badly in a restaurant in my whole life. This happened 5/12/23 at around 6:00 pm.

Very underwhelming.

Pizza extremely spicy. Were out of several foods. Menu extremely tiny. Waitress let us wait and was very unattentive. Had to walk up to her several times to get silverware, the check, and to get a bottle opened that was NOT a twist off. Also, couldn't tell us the allergens in the served food and didn't ask us if we wanted more drinks or anything else. In the end we spent 90 dollars and were super unhappy but no one seemed to care. This location is great, however, it is sad to see how the service and food doesn't live up to the promising atmosphere.

Main positive was the great ambiance. We got two pizzas - jabroni and barberini, and I found both to be lacking in salt and therefore kind of flavorless. We waited for a little over an hour on a Friday evening. In general I don't mind waiting, but the hostess was short with us when taking down my number and in hindsight the food was not worth it.

If you have been around long enough and had a chance to walk into the old store Gramps was a special man. Kind and funny. The pizza is very good. The salads are eclectic and delicious. This is a place you will return to.

Definitely a high price. Same size as a frozen pizza. 2 toppings is over $22. The prices on their website aren’t what they actually charge. Called and they said that their prices apparently just went up and don’t match what’s on their own website or any of the online ordering services. You can find better prices with similar quality around.

I feel bad it took me so long to write a review, but my husband and I had an incredible experience at Grandpa’s Pizzeria for our anniversary! It happened to fall on a Tuesday, so we were able to take advantage of their date night special. You get to share an appetizer/salad, pizza, dessert, AND a bottle of wine. It’s a great value and a wonderful option for us first-timers that wanted to experience a range of options. Everything was delicious, but the Goomba pie (mushroom) and the chocolate mousse were definitely the stand-outs. The ambiance of the small place is also cozy and cute, perfect for a chilly winter evening.

The dinner was made extra special when our anniversary was acknowledged! I made the reservation with the Resy platform on their website, and selected the anniversary option for the occasion. I usually don’t hold any expectations when doing that, restaurants and their staff are busy, and it’s understandable they don’t always notice! That was not the case here! They added a cute little candle to our desert and brought us complementary champagne flutes. It felt really special and made the night so memorable.

I highly recommend stopping by for the excellent service and delicious food! It’s quickly rocketed to the top of our list of places in Madison.

Food is pretty good! Delicious thin crust pizzas with options to customize. Good wine selection/recommendations.

Cheeseboard was just OK, and arguably some of the other apps could also have a better description on the menu, plus portions are generally small for price. For example, Calamari was not what I'd call a seafood dish- more of a peppery, greasy, olive/pepperoni dish. A strange take on the classic tomato/calamari combo.

Unfortunately we did not like the ginger cake either, largely unimpressed. The cake crumb was large and dry with a consistency closest to cornbread, overly sweet. Maybe it was a fluke based on other reviews. Should have tried the mousse since it's light and leaves less room for error.

Stellar service. Fabulous food. Gluten free/sensitive friendly to boot. They even sent some cookies home with us for the kids at home a gratis! That kind of kindness and authenticity coupled with the atmosphere and the I repeat excellent food is what keeps us coming back. Looking forward to our next visit. If you haven't been, go.

Great pizza, environment and staff. I came in for takeout and the guy who took my order was cool-enough to bring it to the bar next-door when it came out earlier than expected.

Didn't get home with it for a good 3 hours, but a few minutes in the oven and I had the best pizza I've had in months.

A comfortable spot for affordable good modern pizza. There is a nice simplicity to the menu, the venue has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff's warmth is contagious.

I would not recommend this place based on the food alone. I have seen many low reviews based on service, but the service was fine. The food was just really bad and overpriced.

Our pizza was burnt, so burnt that it was difficult to taste the pizza at all. We ordered 3 pizzas, and all 3 were pretty flavorless and lacking in taste and quality. Each slice of the Pinnochio pizza was a saucy, flavorless mess with a fat piece of greasy sausage slapped in the middle. The other two pizzas were okay but burnt and pretty mediocre. However, this was not the worst of it….

By far, one of the most disgusting appetizers I’ve ever eaten, was the calimari. I really enjoy calimari. I enjoy sushi and sashimi and have enjoyed raw and cooked octopus in the past. This is not my aversion to seafood; this dish is simply disgusting. The calimari is not fried or baked; it is slimy in a spicy yet flavorless tomato sauce. My four friends and I almost vomited after tasting it. What a disgrace of a dish.

Such a delightful find. Ambiance is cozy and the herb garden all lit up is a beautiful view. Do not miss out on the calamari appetizer. I wish I could find words to describe it's smokey enhancements. The Barberini pizza is a utopian contrast of smokey and sweet. Crust is crunchy and yet melts between your teeth. The ginger cake, don't even get me started. Such a perfect balance of lemon zest and ginger. Baked to perfection! Grandpa's grandson is a creation genius and gramps would be proud! Staff is kind and accommodating. We will be back!

The food was great. We had the roasted veggies, beet salad, and 3 different pizza's. My favorite was the shortbread cookies they gave us Togo. It's great they use fresh ingredients from there garden or locally sourced.

Our server was very good and explained the menu to us as it was our first time.

4 instead of 5 stars is because we waited at our table for a while before a server finally cam
