I ate at this iconic restaurant and had their fried whitefish livers appetizer and broiled whitefish dinner main course. Homemade mashed potatoes (choice of potatoes) and coleslaw comes with it. Both were delicious! You cannot find breaded and fried whitefish livers anyplace else and they are amazing with a little squeeze of lemon. They also serve pan sautéed whitefish livers with peppers and onions a more common preparation in the Bayfield area. These livers are a local delicacy and a must try! Service was spot on. The food was cooked perfectly. Shout out to Chef Cass!

Came to this place while on a trip and had very high hopes. I had ordered a chicken parm but was given the trout salad instead. Normally i wouldve stayed quiet but i am quite allergic so i told my waitress i had ordered the chicken parm. She immediately had told me “No u asked for the trout salad” (which i wouldn’t get cus again i am allergic) she then asked my table what i had ordered and they all said chicken parm. with that response she got very angry and took my plate back. i kept apologizing for the confusion and wasn’t getting any response back the whole time. she didn’t talk to me again the rest of my time i was there not even to ask to refill my cup. Overall food was good and no complaints there. the staffing was just a bit iffy to be honest. maybe she was having a bad day i don’t know?

My husband and I stayed at the INN in the Cowboy room. The room was cute with a private toilet but shared showers. The owner was great and communicated well. We were right next to the main door and only heard the door opening and closing on occasion. We really don’t hear any of the other guests. The location is perfect. We walked everywhere and never had to move our car. We ate breakfast at the restaurant. The food was ok. Just typical breakfast. Cool atmosphere and decor. The service from our waitress was great. Some of the other employees were not as friendly looking. We didn’t eat there again, so I can’t say how dinners are. But if you need a place to stay that’s within walking distance, comfortable and affordable, the INN was perfect.

Best thing about this place is looking all around you while you're eating. Fascinating memorabilia, even on the ceiling. Food good, service great. Has an "old northwoods resort gone to seed" sort of vibe.

Chaotic. May have been just a bad day, there are plenty of good reviews but we weren't acknowledged for 5 mins or so, then when we were it was passing and we continued to wait. We left and visited Manypenny instead. They were busier but handled it better. It was a good choice.

Greunke’s Friday night fish fry is delicious fresh whitefish from the lake I had the cherry homemade pie and would recommend any of their pies plus hand dipped malts I have been eating at Greunke’s for 50 years and have never experienced a bad meal. The owner Judith will always play a tune for you on her Wurlitzer Greunke’s has a lot of nostalgia a great place to dine and share memories 👍❤️

We made the mistake of thinking this would be a great spot on account of the cars in the parking lot and the signs saying “fine food”. Save yourselves…go elsewhere. You would have a better gastronomic experience getting a frozen dinner at the grocery store and heating it up in the microwave at your lodging. Far and away the worst experience I have had in many years.

I usually don't take the time to slam a place after a bad experience but this time the service and food was so substandard that I feel compelled to warn others. The whitefish sandwiches that my wife and I had here where without question the worst that we have experienced anywhere. In addition, the waitress was seemingly unable to properly do her job and the tip we left her reflected that. The 'fine food' neon signage on the building exterior couldn't be further from the truth! Avoid this place by all means!

I wouldn't go back...ordered the broiled whitefish sandwich. My first bite dripped with "fish juice", used a napkin to dry it out. Ate part of the sandwich then noticed that the fish didn't seem done and the skin was gross and soggy. I told the server I couldn't eat it, she took the plate without comment. Later came for my husband's plate and gave us the bill without an apology or adjustment. Disappointing as I had high hopes for Greunke's.

Was a really cool place to eat at. The antique photos and memorabilia was nice. The trout I had was good, my wife's burger and fries were okay, but it could have been better. She said on a scale of 1 to 5, her burger was a 2.5. Overall, it was worth the stop.

Clearly the oil was either dirty/not cleaned or not hot enough. Fries were over saturated with oil, soggy and not crisp at all. Fish wasn't flaky, wasn't quite done, or cooked right. Wife's stomach was very upset all night from her meal. First one star review

If I could give negative stars I would. We waited 45 minutes, didn’t get all our food, were lied to about our wait time, and didn’t even get a discount on our “meal” for horrible service.

The table next to us ordered a pizza, ate it and left. And we still hadn’t received ours when we ordered the same time they did. When we asked for the update as that table was leaving, we were told 10 more minutes. In that time we asked for the bill as our kids were getting antsy and already playing outside, no discount or apologies, we were told pizza takes about 20 minutes and suddenly ten other pizzas were in the ovens. What happened to ten minutes? Then the manager wasn’t going to give any discounts- we literally had to tell her we will be walking out or give a discount. They took off the pizza fries. I clarified when they would be ready just to be told they still hadn’t gone in the oven!! What a whirlwind of seven minutes!! And then to realize we didn’t even get a discount! Or an apology! $25 for a small plate of whimpy fries, jalapeno poppers, 3 cokes and a juice.

20/10 would not recommend.

My mother and I didn't stay, but stopped in for a bite to eat prior to seeing the Bayfield Ghost Walks. The service was kind, QUICK, and delicious. My mom and I had a BALL looking at the ceiling of all the record covers on the ceiling (also pictured). All in all, a VERY pleasant stop, and all the waitresses were very nice.
The cheese curds were delicious and came with a homemade marinara. Soup could've used a lil more salt, but was really good too. Would definitely recommend!!

I Made a direct reservation a month in advance for a wedding in bayfield. Check in was confirmed for 2pm in two locations on the email. Wedding ceremony was at 4pm.

We show up at 2:05 and get told check-in is 3pm and our room was not ready or clean and to come back at 4. No one knew what to do, no one cared to know what to do. No one on the staff was bothered in general.

After some back and forth we eventually got into our room at 3:15 ( just enough time to suit up for the wedding). Our room was clean other than the massive wet spot in the middle from the leaking sink drain.

Service was very slow and almost non-existent, outside seating is very dark and dull. The fine dining sign is not true to this restaurant, it must be an old sign from a different restaurant. We ordered a pizza and waited almost an hour, our one soda and one beer alone took 20 minutes to get. There were MAYBE 4 tables so they weren’t busy, we watched 2 cooks come outside to smoke then go directly to cooking without washing hands. The other table outside next to us did not look very happy to be there either. Would highly recommend going else where unless you have enough time to experience it for yourself. It’s such a good location, such good potential, a bit of a shame.

The ice maker must not have been cleaned for a long time as our sodas had things not ice or soda in them. After all that still had to wait half hour with kids at the register for the way over priced bill so could get out of there, go try one of the many other cleaner and hopefully better restaurants in the area, save your teeth, stomach, and your wallet the pain of going here

Came for an early dinner. Place is pretty unique with a fun atmosphere. Portions are small, but the prices reflect and the food was really good

My wife and I were looking for a quick meal before running to catch one of the last ferry’s onto Madeline Island. We walked into Greunke’s and we’re pleasantly surprised with great service and an excellent dinner ! The Whitefish and Trout were outstanding as were the spotted cow and generous glass of white wine. Judith (Owner) and staff made sure we had plenty of time to get to the ferry.
This is a special place, we’ll be back!

Eh. Had the fish boil. They worked hard at it. Looked fun. Delicious potatoes and melted butter. The fish was a lot of work. If you know more about the anatomy of fish bones than this customer, it may be better for you. We sat on the patio. There could be a fogging of some kind done to help control the flies. Service was not great—at all. We felt like the forgotten table. They tried hard.

We stayed at Greunke's in the Wild Rose room for four nights, and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, the beds were comfy, and we weren't bothered by outside noise. The location really can't be beat. We walked to the boat dock for our excursions out to the islands, and on days when the restaurant isn't open, there are plenty of good ones within walking distance as well. Speaking of the restaurant, the food is wonderful! We had both breakfast and supper there during our stay, and we were all very impressed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the owner will gladly tell you stories about the history of the place if you ask. ||The only reason I docked a star is because of the bathroom. The toilet and shower each have their own little room, and the sink is out in the room. That in itself was convenient, since 5 of us were using one bathroom, but the toilet room didn't have a vent and even when freshly cleaned didn't always smell the freshest. The shower room is small. I didn't mind, but if you're on the bigger side, it might be a little cramped. Yes, the building does show its age a bit, and yes, the décor and linens are mismatched, but to me it was part of the charm of the place. I would definitely recommend Greunke's if you want a fun, convenient place to stay in Bayfield.

Had brunch with a party of 8, which is not always easy to accommodate. The staff made sure we all had our coffees full and the food came out in a decent amount of time. Highlights included the blueberry pancakes and Judith's skillet. Cory was our server and was pleasant and attentive. Thanks Greunkies!

Always dine here when in Bayfield. Great trout with pecan crust. Very good pies for desert. They also rent rooms in the building at economical rates.

Incredible PIZZA - not on menu- don’t worry ask the server for a pizza menu from next door - a 24” fed all 4?of us and it was phenomenal! Back again tonight for the PRIME RIB special - 30sec walk from the Cranky pants staff at Bayfield Inn

We had two families looking for food later in the evening and ended up walking here from the marina. We had no idea what to expect, and ended up having a fabulous time here with some good pizza, sodas, wine, and beer. Judith, the owner, took a lot of time to give us an overview of many of the historical artifacts, including her fabulous Wurlitzer jukebox. She has a lot of great stories to tell. The kids (of all ages) and parents were intrigued with her stories and got a memorable experience. If you get the privilege to meet her and get some time, you won't regret it. When we left, there wasn't a bite of pizza left and everyone had smiles.

Stayed at the inn and ate downstairs in the restaurant for dinner one night. I had the chicken special and my son had the ribs. It was all delicious, salad was good, too, and staff was friendly. Service was great! The inn is the kind of lake place I like to stay: it’s like being at your family lake house and you’re given a comfy room upstairs with a bathroom you share down the hallway with your cousins.:) Authentic, homey, comforting.

The atmosphere was nice. I liked the old style pop culture vibe of the place. However, the service besides friendly staff, was subpar. It took 30 mins to get our order of 2 blueberry pancakes and eggs Benedict of which the blueberry pancakes were mushy, did not contain many blueberries, and were falling apart. Maybe the other menu items are better but the person who ordered the eggs Benedict said that was just “ok” too. I would recommend Manypenny Bistro nearby for breakfast as opposed to this.

Food was good, service was slow but was very polite & courteous with a smile. Didn't have to wear a face mask. Little narrow getting to the ladies bathroom. Anyone claustrophobic would struggle with it. Had a lot of memorabilia on the walls, like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe & more. Was very busy when we went at 11:30am on July 4th. There is a ice cream stand right by the parking lot. They do have a patio but it was closed. They had already started lot menu. Couple people in our group said the Reuben & cheeseburger was good. The trout was good but needed a little more seasoning when it was boiled. They also have that deep fried. If you like fish hearts saw that on the menu. The truck hadn't come in so none of us got the coleslaw that goes with our meals

This place has the best fresh fish I've ever had! The Pecan Trout was to die for! We had hot dogs from the ice cream stand on the edge of the property, and they were THE BEST we have ever had! Chris and Maggie were amazing and they really offered some good times 😉 Chris's wiener is top notch and Maggie's buns are also wonderful! Will definitely be visiting again!

The people were nice and accommodating, and the room was clean and quiet. The location is fantastic. I definitely wished for curtains in addition to the blinds in the Manitou room however, because the sun comes up through the windows in the mornings and the blinds do not block it out, so don't expect to sleep past 5AM in the summer. Also, there is no fan in the bathroom and the door has slats on it that don't block any sounds at all, so there was no privacy whatsoever. The wi-fi was slow and incredibly spotty -- almost unusable.

Ceiliac Review: this quaint restaurant was recommended to me as a good place to go for gluten free food. That was a miss (no fault of restaurant but bad information on my part) as the waitress said they just have gluten free buns. Well, I was able to enjoy a cheeseburger, however the rest of the menu was necessary to avoid as a ceiliac. Quick service today!

Waited 25 minutes for a truly disappointing single order of cheese curds. Meanwhile this old lady who apparently owns/runs the place is at the end of the bar like yelling at the employees. Not a great look. Maybe look into unionizing???

Had a great experience! Lake Superior whitefish fillet with the baby red potatoes was delicious. Even had a chocolate malt! We ordered chicken strips as an appetizer and they were fantastic as well (top notch BBQ sauce). Waiter was polite and helpful. Fun vintage decór. It's nothing fancy but has it where it counts :)

Friendly place, good food and fun atmosphere. Lots to look at with all the record jackets and photos of Hollywood stars on the walls. Greunke's doesn't serve liquor but they have a decent selection of wine and beer - not particularly extensive but does the trick.

It’s a classic true small Inn, a walk back in time. Charming, clean and in Bayfields bullseye of opportunities. Shops and restaurants across the street, though they have their own restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Prices are great, one block to the main pier serving Apostle Islands. I loved it. Realized I lost my wallet when packing up and within hours Judith, the owner had found it and contacted me she was mailing it to me, a life saver. Memorable place.
