I ordered the Fried Clam Appetizer and was probably the worse ever, portion size was OK, but if not for the sprinkled parmesan on top lacked any flavor and over hall were no larger than a cherry pit. And probably left 1/4 on the plate to be thrown out. I did mention my disappointment and she to sell me something in addition to what I had ordered. I would NOT recommend coming there with a reservation.

To be 100% honest… didn’t even get to try the food. I took my father, son and a friend and as we entered immediately sat at the bar. My first impression was clean and positive. Ordered drinks and food and as we waited I tossed some money in a gambling machine. Within 5 mins I won $100 bucks and I returned to the bar to collect… NO BIG WINNER OR LOSER. The bar tender immediately became combative and accused me of both not following directions and lying over a hundred dollars… OK. I literally told her at that point to “get out of my presence” after accusing me of lying… I was so offended I got up and walked out!!!! Very weird experience!!!!!! They must need money apparently? WOW!!! What a positive lunch experience. Stopped to eat and was welcomed by the hostess/ bartender with big smiles.
EXCELLENT menu. A real porkchop sandwitch for 9.00!!! Great burgers starting for 8.00. With drinks and 20% tip 4 guys got out for 15.00 each.

Had take out from Grill 164, first time eating there. The perch was excellent and the add-on piece of cod was very good as well. The wife liked her burger, too. I just checked my timeline and saw that I have visited Grill 164 thirty times, and I haven't had a bad experience yet. I really love the staff, and Todd the owner is an outstanding restaurateur. Prices are so reasonable and the food preparation is a always excellent. There are a ton of dining options in the lake country area, but this is one of those spots where the locals go and you can really tell that they are appreciated. I look forward to my next visit.

To start with I should say that having been a Chef I am somewhat picky.

I have eaten at Grill 164 five times over the past two months. During those visits they have become one of my top 10 restaurants in the Waukesha to Oconomowoc area.
During our visits we have enjoyed the half pound char-grilled Black Angus burgers, perfectly cooked to medium with a full-bodied taste served with homemade chips, Hay stack onions (thin sliced breaded fried onions), lightly battered and golden brown with very little salt taste, Mozzarella Sticks wrapped in an eggroll fashion served with marinara sauce and perfectly browned, char-grilled Beef Tenderloin Sandwich served medium rare to medium with potato salad.

However, our favorite meals have been on Fridays. They have a Friday fish fry that offers something for every fish lover. They have fried or baked Cod, fried Lake Perch, fried Bluegill, Pan seared Walleye and Jumbo Shrimp. For those who have a big appetite they offer an AYCE fish fry. The fried cod is pure white, lightly hand battered, fried to golden brown and is moist, and flaky. The coleslaw is creamy and has a slight smokey undertone that I have only ever enjoyed before at a few restaurants in the deep south. The lemon pepper and butter Baked Cod was pure white filets, moist and flaky served with drawn butter. The Fish Fries are all fish fries are served with coleslaw, potato salad, rye bread and choice of French Fries or Homemade Potato Pancake.

While the food is the star of this restaurant/Pub the service is very good and the atmosphere is that of a small-town family grill.

The one thing that may upset some people is that they are often so busy that you may have a 40-minute wait for a table. However, I have found that if you do a little planning, you can either arrive early (3:30pm) or make a reservation.

Therefore, if you find yourself getting hungry and you are in the Oconomowoc WI area I recommend that you try Grill 164!

Very rarely do I comment or leave a review. This place was awful! Owner was a nice bartender/Server, which is ‘why.’ I’m giving the 3 stars. Probably another business owner struggling (with Bidenomics)! Noooo Wisconsin craft beer offered. Really? The food was absolutely disgusting! Frozen cheese curds… in Wisconsin?! The caprese salad will get forgiveness, only because it is not an Italian restaurant — soggy soaked bread, with old tomatoes. Egads! Being in Wisconsin, one would expect a big juicy burger. Ugh. Yuck. I pretended I ate it. They’ll find it stuffed on the side of the outdated booth, wrapped in a napkin. Old lettuce accompanied with a thin sliced tomato, no onion offered, not mustard! The Cole slaw and potato salad was probably bargain stuff from a grocery store. Daysssss old. Diet coke was flat, too. Nope! Nope! Nope! The restrooms were disgustingly dirty, too. Paper towel out of use.

The food here is fantastic! I had the jumbo shrimp and it was great. The batter was light and crispy, not greasy at all, allowing me to really taste the shrimp.

The clam chowder was nice and fresh, the base was lighter, not such a heavy cream. You can taste the clams in every spoonful.

And everyone was so nice. The bartender greeted us as we walked in the door, and the service at our table was attentive without interrupting too often.

We look forward to dining here again at Grill 164.

Oconomowoc belongs in Door County! Place was very busy and low on servers. Food was fine, not exceptional, but good, common bar food menu with the exception of some higher end selections like prime rib. We were jammed in a corner table next to a party of 10, server had a hard time getting around us to get to the large group. But despite being super busy and low on help, food came to the table fast and prepared well, and the servers did a fantastic job with this. It was unclear where to check in or where the hostess station was when you first enter, signage would help that. Took a while to get the check but not a big deal. Overall a good experience and would go back.

This was our first visit to Grill 164 and we will definitely be back. We ate at the bar and we were given these cool wooden trays that make the bar surface level and it easier to dine. Supper club vibe full of mostly local folks. Friendly and prompt service. I love the fact that they have Franziskaner bier on tap. It was a perfect complement to the pork schnitzel. With a squeeze of lemon on top, it's good night nurse! Very reasonably priced and the next night we stopped in for a quick drink prior to the Christmas parade. Again, good service despite the place was totally poppin' off. I can't wait to get back.

I read the reviews and I thought perhaps they were just a bad day. NOPE. The review said the clams were burnt. About 25% were cooked right. But the other 75%: They are still burnt! Dark brown, rock hard. I bought TWO orders. I asked for tartar sauce and I had it but the lids were not on the containers! It spilled all over the inside. The room was dark and smell of a old hotel. We live outside the Madison area and was in the area on our way home and was looking for a place to get something to eat??? We searched and saw grill 164 in oconomowoc and decided to order food from there. We called in an order and a lady answered the phone and was very pleasant. Once we ordered we drove there to pickup our order. I walked in to get our order and a women greeted me was so nice. and rang up my order. Found out while paying my bill her name was mary. Grill 164 is a cozy old school bar and restaurant, it's had other names and incarnations going back decades. The bar is pretty much like it was on the 1970s, just with better TVs behind it now. The food hadn't always been highly regarded, but I believe there was a recent re-tooling because several visits lately ended up being very, very good for both drinks and food, with good price points. Friendly place, too. If you haven't been there in a while, give it a go!

Went here for Friday fish with friends place was busy but we got a high table in the bar area which was fine. Service was excellent as it has been in the past. Our waitress was Mary she's a trip and a great waitress. If you get Mary as your server she will take good care of you. I was the only one of our party of 4 to get an appetizer which was a bowl of clam chowder which was hot and very tasty and made in house im told although the clams were just a bit chewy but thats a small thing and can happen very easily so I take nothing off for that as it was hot and had great flavor. We all got the fish equally divided between fried and baked with different choices of potato there's something for everyone. 3 of us got fries 1 got a kind of potato pancake everyone's fish was very good and the fries were great the potato pancake thing was not well received by my companion who said it really wasn't that great. The meals came with slices of rye bread with butter and Cole slaw and potato salad for the table to share all of these are made in house and were excellent. Over all was an excellent meal with exception of the potato pancake thing which didn't detract from the meal and ambiance and great service. Have eaten here before and will again.

My hubby and I were recommended here by our good friend for Walleye fish fry, because it had been awhile since we had it because we were visiting from the south where you cannot get it.

The place is hoppin' on a Friday night but for a good reason. Staff was more than on top of things and seated us quickly and got in our order and drinks fast. It was amazing how quick and promptly the food came out which I would have waited longer. Walleye dinner there was tasty with big portions. Had a fantastic fishfry, had the combo fishfry, Nice to see same faces working, Mary, Pudge and Todd was working the place also, will be back!!!

Ordered the schnitzel after asking waitress what was better that or fish fry and she couldn't decide. The schnitzel was 3 center cut pork chops dusted in flour and pan fried. I asked if that was really the schnitzel and waitress appeared confused alone with the rest of the employees. First and last time for Grill 164, not a good showing.

I have given this place multiple times hoping that the service would be better.
This place has not changed for the good even when it was Todd's.
It is to bad because this area could use another good place to eat.
Today service was less than poor, even had to flag the waitress for another refill even though they walked by several times looked at my cup and kept on going.
Most people do not carry cash, and if you pay with your debit card, credit card they charge you 3.99% in addition on your bill to run your card.
Obviously your lack of customers is reflected in this rediculas surge charge.
This was my last and final time I will ever come here again.

This place does not even deserve a single star.
