We live in central Wisconson and often drive through Amherst. We knew this restaurant was here but never tried it until today. We were very happy with our visit.

We arrived around 1pm on a Monday. Restaurant closed at 2pm. They were not very busy. We were seated and offered the full menu.

When looking around the restaurant had numerous items suggesting a Christian ✝️ theme. These values seemed to be reflected in the service we received. Our waitress (Grace) was very professional. At the end of the meal she asked if anyone was military / veteran and gave a discount. (We didn't ask - this was just offered) which was really nice.

The food was good. Everything was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was clean. It was a very nice place to stop for lunch. Staff and owners were all very friendly.

My only regret is I never tried this place before. All of us enjoyed our meals and we'll definitely come again.

Discover the hidden gem of Grits and Graces, a quaint restaurant located in Amherst, just off US Highway 10, which runs east and west across the central part of Wisconsin.

The restaurant was spacious, clean, and bright. The staff were welcoming and attentive from the time we walked in the door. Miranda P. , our bubbly server appeared to enjoy her job. The sausage, falcon French toast, as well as the biscuits and gravy were all delicious. Our coffee cups were never empty. This was a very special experience. We will return.

I've never really heard of a decent restaurant in Amherst. Until today, if your looking for a great place with awesome food I highly recommend you check them out. The service is great as everyone is friendly with a good attitude. The food is great with everything being fresh with great flavor. I typically don’t post negatively about a restaurant unless it happens repeatedly. We’ve eaten at Grit & Grace several times, always on a Friday evening for fish. The first time the fish was excellent, with phenomenal service even though they were short staffed. The second time was a larger group who intended on ordering hand battered cod. We didn’t find out until we were seated and ready to order that they were completely out of cod. Most of our group ended up ordering burgers, which were decent, but not the cod we had initially hoped for. Tonight was our third visit. When we arrived there were two other tables besides us. Our party was a group of 6 individuals and we made sure to ask if they had the cod prior to being sat. Our waitress was the only person working the floor, leaving the 6-7 tables at a time up to her. The owners were either behind the counter seated or sitting at a table speaking with other customers-again, leaving the entire restaurant up to one waitress. For only 3 tables at the time we ordered, it took far too long for our food and the entire order wasn’t done at the same time.
We typically order extra sauces because they’re usually excellent. Tonight, they were all different with no consistency from previous visits. The fish was more than well done and the fresh potato chips were borderline burned.
Pros: small, clean and convenient.
Cons: no consistency, overcooked food, short-staffed

my waffle was like rubber and burnt. it had clearly been sitting out for more than 10 minutes and i wasn’t late to pick it up. i got there at the exact time i told them i’d be there. not only that but i asked for whip cream AND powdered sugar and got neither. for the strawberries on my waffle they put all but 4 slices.

Stopped in for Friday Fish Fry. Tested out both the batter fried Cod and Perch. Both were excellent and cooked to perfection!! Tasty potato salad, coleslaw and rye bread served alongside. My rating: 5 out of 5 Stars!! I will be back!

Pancakes were burnt. All of them were burnt. And instead of butter were served with whipped cream already on them. The tuna i ordered melt was cold and the cheese was not melted. It was edible but had little flavor. Eggs we ordered were supposed to be medium but were barely sunny side up. I did not eat them my wife did because she likes that style but were still undercooked. Talked to the waitress and got half the pancakes comped. But not the other ones with the meal i ordered. Waitress was friendly, only one there for our visit and agreed with us that our pancakes were a big problem. I took a picture but not sure how to add it.

So disappointed. We were hopeful for a new breakfast spot, but after our first visit, we will not be returning. I guess the first issue was our waitress. I've never felt so unwelcomed in a restaurant. Not once, but twice she turned her back and walked away while I was speaking to her. Next, the food took over 30 mins to arrive at the table. This was at a time that the restaurant was less than half full, there were only two of us at the table, and we ordered straight off the menu with no customizations. The table next to us said they were on their fourth cup of coffee waiting for their food, and I heard another party say it was nearly an hour. When my waffle arrived, there was no whipped cream on it, which was standard on their waffle order. No way of requesting it because our waitress was gone and never even returned with a coffee refill for the remainder of our stay. By the time we left, I heard a waitress telling a patron it would be a 40 minute wait, yet the restaurant was now less than a third full. That party walked out and was visibly upset.
This is a small town and word travels fast. If this is how are starting off, I don't see any way they can possibly last a year. We'll travel miles for breakfast before we will ever go back here.
