In my opinion the Food here is cooked,an prepared traditionally for Mexican cuisine. I give a lower rating for service due to the fact we chose to sit outside. I felt as if they were more focused at 1st with the customers who dine inside. We were not offered any daily specials. However; the server did inform us that there was a lunch menu. Also that thoes times were over for that menu. Finally I most definitely enjoyed the esthetics and vibrant colored decor inside the establishment. In conclusion; I do recommend at least I can say I tried it stop here.

This was my 2nd time here and while I still enjoyed it I was a little disappointed. The food we had was all very good - a burrito, a burrito bowl and a quesadilla. We were a bit shocked at the price of the chips & salsa & guac for the amount you get. Also, the last time I was here and ordered a margarita it came in a much larger glass - and THAT size justified the price. The glass we were served this time was much much smaller yet they were still charging the same, a bit disappointed there. Everything is definitely expensive here.

This place was so delicious! We are big Hispanic restaurant goers. This was one of the best places we have ever been to for delicious, fresh food. Tons of flavor! Moist meat! Fresh ingredients! Had a delicious lunch here on a hot day in Lake Geneva. The Frozen Strawberry Margarita was delicious and beautiful. We ordered 3 chicken tacos and a King Bean Burrito. Everything was delicious. The menu is simple and straightforward but allows for several personalizations of your meal. The service was friendly, attentive and fun. They accidentally put cheese on my tacos instead of guacamole and, while still delicious and I ate every bite, they still gave us a small discount for the mistake, while also making sure the guacamole upcharge wasn’t on the bill. They even offered us a small guacamole to go! Highly recommend them and I know I’ll be returning!

We were in Lake Geneva yesterday to look at the ice sculptures. When walking around we went into Guac Star. I really enjoy Mexican food. In all the times I've eaten it, I have never had a more delicious taco or rice and beans than I did at Guac. I don't know what spice they used to flavor their meat, but all of us were commenting on how good it was. I wish we lived closer, but next time we are up that way, we'll be stopping in!

As we parked two frat bros ran up to us and said dude this is best Mexican food at the lake. This is 100% the best Mexican food in lake Geneva. My kids ate 15 tacos between the three of them. No other restaurant looked as appealing, but at Guacstar the food and environment was perfect.The adults enjoyed some drinks while the kids played arcade games. We even got to try a family soup off the secret menu. Our waitress was super attentive and the food came out quickly. We will be going back up next weekend.

I only gave one start because of first time in our visit there was an issue with the kitchen exhaust and ended up getting up without food but owner was very honest and respective.
Second time we thought give it try and we were told the tables getting ready. It was outside table is where wanted to seat. Some lady came and seat on our table. I am from Chicago, and we came here with friends and family. We were soooo excited to bring them here for the strong margaritas and food!

Yesterday we popped in maybe around 605-610, unfortunately we had to cut our time short,

The bartender, when we walked in, he told us he would get to us when he could, we sat down and waited for a few mins - no problem.
He asked us about drinks, all was well
The energy shifted soon after

What really upset my guests and I, was he brought us our drinks, and then asked if we wanted any appetizers (chips, salsa, etc)

I ordered the shareable chips and salsa, guac, and then i TRIED to order a quesadilla for everyone to share

He straight up stopped me mid sentence, and said "I'm not doing that, I'm doing this first (the chips and salsa), I am by myself right now" I just got completely silent and was super pissed, cause I know at my job I don't ever want to be disrespectful and I pride myself on how I handle situations

I was completely shocked cause we have been here 2 other times (early in the day) there is usually a great bartender in the morning. I don't know her name, but she's a younger girl, never gives us any problems when we order what we want.

This guy was just clearly in a bad mood, overwhelmed by the amount of guests (which I manage and work in a restaurant, have for 11 years) the amount of people wasn't nearly as busy as he was saying, there was only a few people in the back corner by the bar

There also was other staff there, (to dispute what he said about being the only one there)
we saw a lady in the back walk to the bathroom, and an older gentleman (I assume was the owner/manager), and he could've simply asked him to help us out and take our order. Why would you be alone running a whole spot with any access to any help? We counted 3 other people there besides him

We were planning on ordering over 20 tacos, appetizers, and then some for our party of 7.
So, after discussing, we decided to take our money elsewhere.
We asked for the check, and his whole demeanor changed, we just wanted to get out of there. I've never treated/been treated like that in my life over as small as someone asking me if I wanted an appetizers, just to cut me off and say "no I'm not doing that" and if you simply were overwhelmed, you should ask for help.
We went somewhere else down the block, spent 300, graciously tipped our server $75, and I'm glad we did.
For our "trouble" that guy would've at least made a good tip off of us, but it just did not work out that way.

I do recommend this place, the owner is super nice, it isn't his fault how his employee acts, but please go early in the day when the younger girl is there, because you don't want to bring people here from out of town, and have the time cut short over someone who clearly wants to brush customers off due to his capacity of what he could handle.

Incredible place for steak burritos. I can’t remember ever having a steak burrito that good. Cocktails were excellent and a little spicy. The manager was very attentive and friendly. He asked us if it was too spicy and offered to tone it done if needed. We said we enjoy spice, so he let us try some of the hottest sauces they had and then brought plenty of water as we struggled through a few of them. Great experience and we will definitely be back.

I was incredibly disappointed by my experience here, especially the service. I walked in with my family with nobody saying anything to us about seating. So I asked about seating and they said “one of us will come to you” and we proceeded to wait a few minutes when there were several tables available.
The person who took our order could really use some additional training because ordering food with her was an awkward experience. She wasn’t explaining anything when we asked. My mom who doesn’t know what pico is asked her what pico is and she just looked at her and said “pico de gallo”. That’s not a description. Also, we asked if she could make a piña colada without alcohol and she abruptly said no. Ok that’s fine but please say “it comes prepared already with alcohol” instead of a flat out no. I had asked someone else, which is how I knew it wasn’t made fresh at the bar. The drink tasted fine. Additionally, she poorly asked what we want in a burrito and when we asked more details about it she had responded quite rudely saying nothing comes in the burrito but didn’t proceed to give us options or point anything out in the menu. I also witnessed her being very rude to other people. There’s an iPad near a sign that says “order” which looks like you would be able to order by yourself. A group of people started touching the iPad and she jumped at them for touching it. To be honest, the placement of the ORDER sign being under the iPad is very misleading. So overall, I’m very disappointed with the service. I will not be coming back, not because of the food but because of how we were treated.

I went here with my parents and my wife and kids (party of 6). Given the 4.5 rating on Google I was expecting a reasonable experience. There was no wait for a table at 12:45pm on Saturday of 4th of July Weekend.

The server was nice and polite, but everything else was underwhelming. They told us gratuity (22%) was included when we asked for a table. Presumably this is because we had a party of 6? Which seems ridiculous given 2 of our 6 were under 13 yrs old.

Then there was the prices. Chips & Salsa (no free refills) $14. Add Guac for $2.

My wife and I ordered the bowls ($16 each) and it was a cereal bowl sized portion.

Then the drinks, order a beer for sure because you at least get what you ordered. I ordered a margarita and it was terrible. Not worth $10 for sugar water and perhaps 0.5oz of tequila.

It just seemed way over priced for what was being provided. Napkins at the table, plastic forks... kids meal was $8 for 1 taco + chips.

I ordered with door dash for the 1st time and this is what i received from this supposed wonderful place in lake geneva. I ordered a steak taco and got a bean taco. I ordered a King beef burrito and with only about half amount of beef. It was not even close to a full burrito. Rice was cold and they forgot my 3 side sauces. Chips were flavorless no salt on them as well as the small amout they give you in a bag with the guac for the price. I will NOT be ordering anything from this establishment again. We stopped in after our family boat tour for a quick bite to eat. My wife and I are from San Diego, so we were not expecting it to be very good, but were pleasantly surprised. Is it the most authentic Mexican food, no, but it was fresh, really tasty, and pretty close. Their salsas, flavors, and guacamole were much more authentic to traditional Mexican flavors than you would expect to find in Wisconsin. The price point is very fair and we found the portions to be the perfect size. They also have an amazing hot sauce collection for the fellow heat lovers that range in heat. The environment was great and the service went above and beyond.

Sign in restaurant says to go to bar for seating and when we went to bar and asked for seating for 5 and we were told sit anywhere you can find. Once we were seated the menu was not as complete as we expected. But for $16, it should have been at least 3x the size. That portion is not shareable, it is small even for one person. Let’s move on. The tacos were at best sub par. The warm meat was topped by very cold garnish that didn’t pare well. Not a lot of flavor. Certainly didn’t enjoy paying $5 for a side of rice and beans. Wife seemed to like the burrito she got. Kids were content with the cheese quesadilla. So far, maybe 3-4 stars. But the absolute loser is the house margarita. Hands down the worst I’ve ever had in my life. I called an order for pick up around 930 and my godmother went to pick up the food. The restaurant didn't have a sign or anything so it was very hard for her to find it. When getting the food, 3 out of 4 orders were good but the burrito bowl came with very little in it for $13. So we called and we went back to get a new bowl and they had the lights off and where closed early. After knocking on the door and getting their attention they fixed the problem. My girls were strolling around town during Winterfest and they stumbled upon Guac Stars little hot chocolate stand outside of the storefront. While they were admiring the chocolate and topping selection the kindest man came out asking them if they'd like to buy some hot chocolate for $3 a cup. They had no money on them and he kindly gave them each a hot chocolate. When they found me, we returned to pay him for his generosity and he would not except payment and hand my son a cup as well! Such kindness on a chilly Lake Geneva day! We had to stop in and try and it was excellent!

Great food and amazing people working there. We went two days in a row because it was so good the first time we tried it. Staff was super friendly and even remembered our drink orders from the day before. We ate in but the burritos and walking tacos would be easy to eat while walking the town. First stop on a weekend trip back to LG. Same amazing service (thanks, Nick!), same awesome food and drinks!!! This is definitely becoming a "must visit" on any trip up this way!!!

Im a Southern California guy and this was one of the best Mexican food experiences I’ve had in the Midwest. The owner served us and he was very friendly and accommodating. The steak in the burritos was phenomenal (bought locally from a butcher). I will absolutely be back!

What a great place to take a break. Shareable guac and salsa for the win. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. The mixed drinks are homade. Don't forget to try the soup of the day. Sangria with I e croutons 😉 Don't pass by without stopping!

we walked over from the hogs and kisses expecting to get food everything was great and we even asked ( cuz all of us are in the service industry) “is it okay if we order” knowing they would be closing soon. he said yes, and from there we ordered. someone from our group fell into the chains that they had blocking off the restaurant (about 4 ft) cuz they didn’t want people sitting inside (which is responsible cuz it’s late) and the guy came out from behind the register and completely kicked our guy from the group out of the restaurant. if you are open past bar time, im sorry but that’s what u have to expect when u are across the street from a bar. drunk people coming in and ordering food. i would understand if a fight broke out but he simply accidentally fell into the chains. my service will no longer be coming here.

WOW! This place was incredible - the staff was so attentive, the food was TOP TIER, they gave us free guac & free dessert that were absolutely delicious, & they were so caring for our experience. I can’t say enough good things. I’m from Chicago & experience a lot of fantastic restaurants, but I’m absolutely blown away! Highly recommend.

Overall, these are some of the best tacos Ive ever had after having hundreds of them including countless places in Mexico City. I got steak and chorizo because they were out of al pastor, and they were incredible flavorful and almost perfectly cooked. The guac, my wife and I thought was some of the best ever too! My wife got the steak quesadilla and loved it. The wine cocktail (a play off of margaritas) was fun, but wasnt fully frozen yet even though it was midafternoon and was good tasting, but I just prefer tequila margs. I think others would like them more because Im not the biggest wine person ever. I just like sweeter and smoother. Overall, would highly recommend for the tacos and guac!

I went with a group of women who have vacationed in Lake Geneva for at least 10 years. This year we happened upon the restaurant by mistake- we needed to get out of the rain and we’re so glad we did. The staff was extremely friendly, patient , and accommodating. The food was fresh and amazing. We will definitely be back for years to come.

Do not let the 4.5 stars fool you like it did us. The food was lousy (except for the chicken tacos they were decent) but the service was worse. Ever have that premade guacamole out of a toothpaste tube? With a name like guac star you would think it would be good……. It lacked flavor and consistency (watery..runny) whoever is preparing it either smokes so much and their tastebuds are shot or Wisconsinites have low expectations on what guacamole should be like! Oh did I mention we paid $16 for chips, salsa and guacamole maybe half an avocado worth?! Coming from Chicago we have never had such bland mediocre Mexican food before in our lives(again the chicken tacos were okay)
This place needs a transfusion of new blood! The waitress we had was useless and the bartender (most likely the owner) needs a dale carniege course on how to treat customers (his heart/mind is somewhere else…. ) What a disappointment.

My brother and I stopped by to try this new Mexican place in downtown Lake Geneva. We were greeted and seated quickly and offered outdoor options if we wanted. We shared homemade guac and chips (yum) and each had a steak taco in a corn tortilla made to order. They were so good that I got my husband an order of steak tacos to go. He does not love Mexican, but he said he would definitely have those tacos again! We will be back!
