Each room is a masterpiece of its own uniquely designed by the proprietor, Daniel. There is a stunning view from all angles, not to mention a beautiful patio garden to gather or simply be while you listen to the waterfall. My room was amazing!! Daniel leaves no detail undoneβ¦from the variety of mini toiletries, to the sealed toilet seat, and even water and chocolate in the mini fridge. Add all that to his exuberant personality and you never want to leave. Lastly, if you want a garden to give Disney a run for its money; take a walk behind the ice cream shop and be amazed.

Beautiful French decor. Restored Chandlers, mirrors, furniture. It was off season so the owner Dan took care of us. We had the room overlooking the Mississippi River.
The BNSF main lines are 50 yds away, so a heads up you will have train traffic 24/7. But we enjoyed watching the trains also. Several good places to eat. A switch back trail about 1/4 behind the hotel leads to stunning views on the bluffs above the city.

I was looking for last minute places to stay overnight for work, and ended up seeing the Hotel de Ville online. I like to stay at local places over the big chains, and I was certainly glad this hotel was the one I picked. Iβve been around, but this is one of the most unique and beautiful stays of my travels. And Danβs quite a character to boot! We had good conversation and you can tell heβs really passionate about the place.

My husband and I stayed in the Garden Suite and loved it. The ambience was amazing! We were allowed to see the other rooms and will definitely be back. The accommodations were over the top compared to other hotels. The beds and pillows were perfect. Thank you Dan for everything..see you soon!

This was the most unique hotel stay ever (in a good way)! I had read some of the reviews and seen pictures, so we had an idea of what to expect - but we were still wonderfully surprised! Most of the times we have stayed in hotels, it has been the big chain ones. You know what to expect and usually a pretty safe choice. We wanted to explore this small town of Alma we had passed through many times before, and decided it might be fun to take a chance on a local hotel and maximize our time in Alma. I am so glad we did - I can't say enough good things! We stayed in the Lincoln room, which was so great. We were able to pick which room we wanted out of which were available - and that in itself was amazing! It was hard to choose (but fun) since each room was completely unique and very cool. Also very clean, and very comfortable. We are already excited to stay again and pick out one of the other incredible rooms. (The town of Alma itself was so fun to explore as well!) Enjoying pizza while sitting under the pergola looking out on the Mississippi was a perfect dining experience! Dirk and Jeff (hope I spelled correctly) were so helpful - they went out of their way to answer any questions and make us feel completely welcome! They made the whole experience even better! Way exceeded all my expectations! I will mention the train that runs by is not too quiet, so if you require silence that is something to consider. We were fairly warned about that, and for me that was definitely not a deal-breaker.

In the past, I have stayed in kitschy hotels that have a thin facade of vintage - NOT HERE.
This is a high quality hotel with excellent luxury appointments. Dan has gone to the Nth degree to have all the conveniences of a modern hotel with authentic vintage dΓ©cor. The hotel is extremely quiet and comfortable. It is also walking distance to many restaurants and bars. I wouldnβt hesitate to stay here again. The price seems to be way too cheap for the quality, but letβs keep that our secret.

Stayed in the Garden Suite. Beautiful gardens to enjoy over morning coffee. Full kitchen. Comfortable bedrooms/ beds. Living room. All appointed with charming antiques and decorated in a shabby chic. View of the Mississippi River from front enclosed porch/ sunroom. Might not be a style for everyone, but we loved it!

The owner is beyond rude, worst customer service. Shouldnβt be operating a hospitality business if they canβt treat customers with some respect and dignity. Please think twice before staying here.

We called to check on availability before heading out to work at 7 am. The Google listing said open 24 hours. Being that is a hotel we figured if the front desk was unmanned it would go to voice mail.
A man answered and immediately berated my wife for calling at 7 am. When I heard the way this person was speaking, I said we are not staying at that place ever. He then proceeded to call my wife a worthless B^%#ch. If you don't operate at 7am then don't answer the phone. I feel sad for such a miserable human that would speak to others that way. Especially someone in the service industry.

The most beautiful place we've ever stayed. Will absolutely be back and recommended to anyone looking for a beautiful, great priced, small town river experience!! Best hotel we've ever been to!!! We travel frequently and have never had this kind of hotel experience. It is directly on the Mississippi River, and I would have loved to stay there forever!!! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!

Absolutely charming and comfortable! If I hadnβt been flying home I might have tried to bargain to buy some of the antique decor. My only regret was that I was there in Nov and it was too cold to enjoy the garden. The proprietor was also very welcoming, with lots of advice for what to do, and good stories. Note: the train runs right along the city of Alma, so if youβre a light sleeper, it might not be the place for you. But thatβs the whole town, not the hotel in particular!

My wife and I were looking for a 1 night stay on our way home to Texas. We were looking for anything close to the Mississippi in Alma. We call the first hotel that popped up on Google for Alma. The Hotel was empty due to the tourist season being over so we had the pick of the rooms available. We pick the Lincoln room, very unique and comfortable and just across the street form the Mississippi river. The tv was an Amazon tv so need of cable if your an amazon subscriber. we had a queen bed that was the most comfortable bed of our trip. Our stay there was one of the highlights of our trip and plan on a longer stay here on our next trip.

Stayed here with my partner on May 6 - 8. The house was lovely and clean, the place has a great history. The location is very close to Buena Vista Park, Kwik Trip, Pier 4 Cafe & Smokehouse, the bakery, Danzinger Vineyards etc. Unfortunately the pizza place was still closed during our visit. The suites did not come with breakfast so we had our breakfast at Pier 4 Cafe, they close at 2pm. The people are very friendly. We had a wonderful time there and we will come back.

what a great place to relax, see their beautiful garden and browse through their used decorative items. We drink coffee and their scrumptious ice cream. We have toured the hotel rooms but never stayed. It is in the heart of Alma, WI with a lock and dam, scenic overlook, Mississippi River and a winery.

We recently visited the Hotel De Ville in Alma. We were looking for a quaint place in a river town and what we got was so much better. Dan the owner was as gracious a host as one could hope for. We stayed in the Sun King room and it exceeded all expectations. The decorations and view are magical. Dan is a pleasure to visit with and full of information on the town and its history. The town of Alma and the people there made our time very enjoyable. We can not say enough good things about our time at the Hotel De Ville to do it justice. THANK YOU DAN, see you again soon.

Unique and elegant decor in all the rooms. Spent 4 nights in the hotel. Dan (the owner was exceptionally accommodating). But the best part of the stay was the staff - the Greeks! Kudos to Dominic and Christos for the great food from Christos and the friendly demeanor of bartender Dominic. Would definitely revisit this gem!

Adorable coffee shop with excellent customer service. High quality delicious ice cream and high quality coffee. We recently enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at the Hotel De Ville in Alma, Wisc. Our room was well-appointed and featured a wonderful balcony view overlooking the dam and lock in Alma, which provided a great view of the river barges going through the locks on the Mississippi River. The room itself was superbly decorated, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very spacious and had a great walk-in shower. The inn's owner was very accommodating and encourage us to explore the property and its unique gardens. He also provided us with a complete list of places to eat in Alma, which was very helpful. Overall, I would provide a top review for the Hotel De Ville.

Not very pleasant experience with the stay. We stayed at Eagle view suite. This is probably one the dirtiest place we stayed. Except main door none of the door is locking. Dust all over the place. Part of the couch chewed by dog probably. Couch was so old, dirty carpet at leaving room. Many lights are not working. Porch door not opening at all. Pretty scary experience. We stayed for one night and left next day morning.

A blissful winter stay! Need to get away? Need to get off the grid? Need to go back in time? Don't want to drive and take a ferry to Mackinac Island Michigan? Wow the Hotel de Ville is a historical trip back in time at a fraction of the rate! Located in Alma Wisconsin, across the street from the mighty Mississippi this eclectic hotel owned and run by a wonderful person,Dan has many properties near by a bakery, a Pizza restraunt, a ice cream shop, a antique store,And restraunt in first floor of hotel and other lodging options also!
We enjoy every moment we can get him to stop and chat with us! He's a treasure trove of wonderful conservation!
The hotel is less than a dozen or so themed named rooms, each with their own different colection of antiques and nicely modern bathrooms! We choose the top floor with in unit heating unit being winter, and love that in slower winter times you have the choice to pick your own unit! Doors are open so you can peak at the rooms! Summer I can say weekends it will fill quickly but week days would be our choice!
Can't say enough about the owner's hospitality! Rooms CLEAN and neat bathrooms fabulous! Beds comfortable! I highly recommend!

Truly a delight--You must see and enjoy, besides being toasty warm inside to make the yummy ice cream (I understand the brand is Chocolate Shoppe from Madison) a real treat. Plus desserts, and the second only, approximately 3 ft high, copper, still operating espresso machine in the USA. A must experience! And to enjoy the charming round marble top tables, old-fashioned glass counters and humongous cash register. An interesting grotto and English gardens out the back door to boot.

In the many years before βthe virusβ we traveled extensively, internationally and domestically. Although Ritz Carlton is our favorite domestic chain hotel, the Best Western is our second favorite, for wholly different reasons. Therefore, it should be clear we are not easily pigeonholed. This hotel provides a wonderful eclectic mix of both. The hotel itself and guest rooms are very nicely appointed. No, not Ritz Carlton, but super nice, particularly if you like the βclassicβ special hotels that preceded the ultra modern (no shower door included) hotel rooms of the current era. AND all for a price that is equal or less than what you would pay for a 2020 Best Western hotel room. Win-win. The hotel owner was chatty and helpful. We will definitely return.|

The owner and proprietor Dan, is one of the hardest working people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. The Hotel de Ville has a European feel as well as dΓ©cor. There was not one detail that Dan has not thought of. Whether, it is the furnishings of the rooms filled with period French, Italian, artwork and mirrors, or the peacefulness of the gardens with beautiful plants and fountains, anyone who has the opportunity to stay at the Hotel de Ville will be amazed. The beds are comfortable, the rooms include a small fridge, TV's along with an assortment of free movies on DVD for your to view if you wish. The views of the Mississippi are breathtaking. One thing to share is that you are on a rail line that has many trains passing by. We found the trains to be quite charming. We had booked four rooms for a group of friends touring the Great American Hwy 35 West Coast of WI. Everyone in our group absolutely raved about the hotel. We would all hope to stay at the Hotel de Ville if we find ourselves in Alma again, it was wonderful. Dan is one of a kind! He has excellent customer service skills and is genuinely hospitable. If you are looking for a unique experience this is the place to stay!

Hotel de Ville is a wonderful relaxing place to be. Alma is one of the artist towns on the Mississippi with panche. The hotel has gardens to sit in and watch the river as well as hidden ones to rest in. Hotel has small accommodations, as in luxurious rooms or cottage living. We stay in the Swan and Eagles' Nest suites. How could one stay in 2 suites at once and accommodate 6 women for knitting/craft weekend? A wonderful 2 story home has been divided into 2 suites that can accommodate more than 4 people once one door (with a hotel master key deadbolt) is opened. Beautiful marble floored bathrooms, and 2 kitchens, one a bit bigger.
The owner has a great pizza place for evening bites, and there's a bakery for mornings, and a cute breakfast lunch place on the other direction from this welcoming set of suites, of course, you can make your own food here too!

I didn't stay overnight, so I can't comment on the rooms, but my visit was wonderful. I stopped by the art gallery on the lower level, and was invited to visit the secret garden out back by the owner. A truly enchanted little spot! Such creativity and attention to quirky details. If I had needed a room that night, I would certainly have asked if there was one available. Even if you aren't looking to stay, do drop by for a look!

The atmosphere was fun and interesting. I loved hat each room had it's own theme. The issue was that there was a huge mistake regarding our reservation. We we're supposed to have 2 beds, but only got one and found the other one was given away to someone with the same first name. Obviously, and from our experience, there wasn't much effort required to doup the business into giving away someone else's room.

Wonderful space and great people! The eagle suite is a home away from home and the coffee shop and gardens across the street is a must do. The only downsides were of course the train right next to the house (the ear plugs were a great touch and much appreciated, though maybe 2 per room?) and the spider petting zoo on the balcony, imagine our horror after going out for a late night smoke with the beautiful water view only to come face to face with 20+ very well established spider webs. We will 100% be back in the future, you have made Alma our dream getaway!

PERFECT! We were searching late at night for somewhere to stay in the area and this was such a great surprise! We thought we would be getting a hotel room... oh, no! We got an ENTIRE HOUSE for far cheaper than any chain hotel room! Not just a house, a beautiful home. Antique yet modern decor with all the ameneties a person could need or want. The small town feel just added to the charm. We were able to meet and chat with the owner the next day and he was a wealth of local history and information on where to go and what to do. We stayed on the side of the road by the ice cream shop and behind the houses this man keeps breathtaking gardens. Really, we felt like when we were in Italy. Ornate, georgous landscaping and sculptures. If we had more time we would have just sat there and felt like we were back in Europe. A lot of thought and love has cleaarly gone into creating and maintaining this GEM of a "hotel!!!"
