This place is abysmal. Stayed 2 nights. Rented a "conference room" for a business meeting. Conference room lighting not functional and neither bathroom had been cleaned. No soap or TP in one of them. Took 3 trips to the front desk and asking for a manager to get someone to at least clean the bathrooms. Ceiling tiles stained. Hotel room was no better. Bathroom floor had hair in corners. Mirrors had not been cleaned and had splatter on them. Walls splattered with various substances. Trash behind the bench near the door. Used fork between the bench and dresser. Stained, filthy mattress pad in one of the beds. Curtain above AC was spotted with mold. The health department really needs to pay this place a visit. I have photos of all issues. Numerous people attending the conference experienced similar filth with their rooms. Nothing in this place is cleaned. I absolutely would never stay again.

Saw various negative reviews and they almost scared me away. This place is a diamond in the rough. Good service, clean comfortable rooms, breakfast buffet in the morning, nice restaurant on site. Pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. We fish at petenwell lake and it’s just 20+ minutes away. We paid $90 a night via Priceline. Definitely will be back.
Updated 10/2025 Still like the place, but I don’t understand the complacency of the General Manager. He had cards at the check in counter, and a video on the TVs in the common areas, but if you send emails no response. The owners are relatively new and you think they would welcome suggestions or questions from customers.

Recently stayed over night and was met with a portable AC floor unit in the room duct taped to a wood board in the window. The tape was falling off letting bugs in. The tub was stained and I found an empty OJ bottle behind the nightstand. The topper was pulling the sheets back to find black curly pubic hair under the sheets! I found this and asked for a room change at 11 at night. Packed everything up and went to a king suite. Same thing pubic hair and dirt in the sheets! 3rd room at midnight had no hair but a stained fitted sheet at least not fresh! Sorry never coming back!

Disgusting room. Out dated. Breakfast was lack luster. Hallway carpets are stained and ceiling tiles are water damaged. Dirty linens, dust covered, windows covered in cardboard and portable accessories unit is a joke as it doesn't cool the room.

Positive: The Hotel Mead is an upscale hotel and featured nice restaurants, conference rooms, and venues for weddings. Negative: New management is changing the look of the Hotel Mead. A sports bar with volleyball courts, a basketball hoop in the swimming pool does not mean upscale. They are catering to the younger generation.

Awful service in old poorly maintained hotel. Front desk useless was told maintenance for toilet not available till tomorrow although clogged The door to bathroom did not open fully as it hit the toilet. The room is poorly lit. We were given 4 hangars total for the room. When I asked to speak to someone in charge I was told there was no one but someone would get in touch. No one did. The dresser is old and doors are falling off the furniture. We had fire alarms 4 times one night due to water problem which kept us up most of the night. I would NEVeR stay at this hotel again

Our room was horrible, didn’t seem like anyone cleaned the room. We were staying for a wedding and the last night I found a cockroach in the bathroom.

Hot tub was putting out cold water and needs to be cleaned….. there was alot of sand in the hot tub.

I am very upset at my stay and would not recommend anyone to stay here.

The price of the hotel is outrageous for the low quality of stay you experience.

First room we were given was not clean.
Second room was clean but A/C didnt work well.
Lights flickered on and off till we pulled the plug.
Toilet started to run all night long and was extremely loud.
Fire alarm in the hotel started to go off at 2am.
Took a bit of an effort and messing with the switch to get the hot tub running.
Went to get out of hot tub and recieved a shock touching the upper right corner by stairs.
Lobby bathroom smelled like it hadn't been cleaned ever.
Whitney staff was great.
Continential breakfast was lacking considering the price of the room.
Found broken electrical plates on outlets and the light trims appeared to be falling off.
Told the front desk all this and it was as though it was falling on deaf ears.
Definitely not what I expected for price and name.
Walked away very disappointed.
At this time I would not recommend.

We love this hotel. They got us a room with only ten minutes notice on a Friday afternoon (We were fleeing the hotel we originally reserved because of unsanitary conditions). The service was great, the food was excellent, and the rooms were well kept. The complimentary breakfast was to die for. It cost a little more than our original booking at the other place, but it was well worth the price.

Talk about gross! Had multiple family members stay here how EMBARRASSING to say this hotel is even in the town I live in, dust covered room, iced over fridge, feet became black from the carpet, the ac just smelled bad and didn’t work, bed woke you up at night with loud springs, walk in the bathroom and it smelled like must and pee. Good luck getting a hold of a manager. Multiple calls and no response. When I called they wanted $179 for this extremely dirty and outdated hotel!

I would love to leave a good review but our experience at the Mead was very disappointing. Upon arrival we found popcorn on the floor by the bed, a musty odor throughout the room and an air conditioner that did not work. Our barefoot feet became dirty just from walking on the floor in the room. The refrigerator was filled with frost and there was visible dust on the tops of the bed frames. Family members staying 3 doors down brought a washcloth they used to clean the bathroom floor to the front desk. The white washcloth was dark with dirt. They showed the front desk prior to checking out. There is a lot room for improvement.
It is sad what has happened to this hotel!

Nice hotel, needs a refresh though. Bar was nice, good food. However, I could hear the people in the room either next to me or above me using the restroom (yes seriously) and then the toilet flushed so loudly that it woke me up several times. Very thin walls.

We went to a wedding and decided to stay at Hotel Mead. I am a travel agent, booked this through an agent site. When we got there the reception was nice, Lydia. At our room there were a lot of lightbulbs out. SA lot of lamps not plugged in. 3 out of 4 lightbulbs out in the bathroom. Decided to have lunch @ 230, the burger was ok. Shrimp was too smelly to eat. Carnita so dry on a flour tortilla with a smattering of cheese, nothing was taken off. I didn't ask for a refund it was just so apparent. After lunch the kids went to change. Somebody walked in the room without knocking. Then shut the door and knocked and said they bringing coffee cups that nobody asked for. There were many more than needed. One of the other wedding guests who booked that hotel walked right out and got a full refund, her room was filthy. The hotel never responded to me, my agent site said they offered 15% back to customer that never spent the night. I am furious and need to write this review. There are not a lot of options in Wisconsin Rapids and there is a restaurant/bar at this place. Go to one of the other hotels if you are in this town. Shameful.

I just wanted to express my disappointment when we stayed at your hotel July 31st - Aug 3rd for our wedding. On Aug 1st I requested for housekeeping to come up and make the bed and bring extra towels, twice and nothing was ever done. I asked again Aug 2nd to have our room cleaned and again nothing was done.

When we arrived Thursday July 31st, the single sink light bar had one light bulb out of 3 lit, in the main bathroom there was only two light bulbs lit and one of them was flickering, so I also needed to contact the front desk to have the light bulbs changed out, why would you do this with guests staying in that room.

Your lamp shades were falling apart, cobwebs all around the ceiling trim with spiders, hardly dusted, your furniture was very old and stained, the cabinet with the fridge and microwave was also falling apart, and the window trim was dangling in two spots.

We were told from Lucky and Jason as a wedding couple we were going to be spoiled, what a joke! No champagne that we were promised, not even rose petals, or a clean room to come back to the night of our wedding...absolutely nothing!

I remember Lucky telling us when we arrive July 31st, 2025 we would not recognize the hotel because it would totally renovated, again what a joke, nothing was done.

The only thing we enjoyed was the continental breakfast. Our stay was definitely not worth the price much less for our guests to pay $199.

Again, we are so very disappointed.

We had an early check- in for a double queen and pull out couch. Upon arrival in the room, the chair and couch were visibly dirty. I checked for sheets for the pullout couch only to find, dirty, possibly moldy, sheets in a drawer. The dresser was dated and very beat up. The back splash in the bathroom was also dirty. The robe in the closet had obviously been worn and was not clean. We requested a refund and left. If I could leave photos on this review, I would, but it doesn't give me that option.

The main building did not have central air conditioning making it humid and stagnant air. They need fans to at least keep air moving. The carpet in the whole place needs to be removed because the odor is very bad. If it wasn't for the odor of the carpet in the room the room would have been nice. The room was clean but I can't say the same for the pool that was just nasty there is a ring of dust all the way around both the pool and spy. It doesn't look like it was physically cleaned in a very long time. The bathroom by the pool was just nasty we went back to the room to shower. There was a robot making laps on the bottom the 2nd day we were there. The chairs and tables in the pool area are old and show it. This place needs a lot of TLC it was a big let down. I was looking forward to the complimentary breakfast. The selection was nice but the food was not very good. If I had to pay for the breakfast I would have not eaten there. I wasted more than I eat and I'm not a picky eater. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone unless the price was less than $60 a night. You pay over $100 a night and get $50 a night vibes.

While entering the lobby, this hotel seems like it was great in its day. Other than the completely random placement and choice of furnishings in the lobby, it looks inviting. My disappointment comes from the cleanliness of our room (and unfortunately other family members rooms that were also staying there.) At first glance, the room looked fine until I started looking around. The boxspring sheet had several white stains on it that also appeared on the inside of the nightstand. The sink outside of the bathroom was not wiped down well and hanging above it, with clean towels, was a dry washcloth clearly used to remove makeup. The bathroom itself deserved a C- for being cleaned as well. For $180, I would have liked not to sleep in filth.

This hotel is absolutely disgusting! We have stayed here several times throughout the years because of family we have in Rapids. This place has truly gone downhill since we last stayed at it in 2021. Where should we start. We had the family suite room, and upon entering the room smelled super musty. In the bathroom there was black spots all over the grout and the exhaust fan was filthy. The room looks like you stepped into 1990. I’m sure the room was superb back in the day. The fridge was completely iced up but not cold. The tv didn’t work for streaming it just sat and buffered for most streaming. There was a drawer cracked open in the entertainment center and I peeked in and there was a pillow dotted with black mold and a spot of dried blood. The pool water was cloudy and the hot tub had a film of nastiness on the wall. I wanted to continue to love this place but the lack of upkeep made it impossible to do so.

Positives are that the location was good… near downtown rapids. Room was large with a seating area. It also had 2 vanities, which was convenient. Pool was fun and a good temperature. And my kids said the cookies were yummy. But it is an old hotel, and 20-30 years ago I’m sure it was amazing. But they haven’t maintained it. Over the vanity there were 4 lightbulbs… only one was workingπŸ€ͺ Kind of gives you an idea of their standards. Stains on the ceiling and bedspread. Workout room had only weight one machine with one functional weight stack. The rest of the machine was broken. They didn’t clean the room. Staff was rude… but I’m guessing that is because they get a lot of complaints. Only reason to stay here again is because the rest of the hotels in town also have terrible reviews. I guess it’s just not a thriving town.

I was bookedca room at Hetel Mead for a conference. The room I was given had a portable a/c unit and hose to a cardboard and duct taped windows. The room was filthy. The bedding did not appear to be clean and there was black mold in the bathroom. When I asked to be moved to a clean room with air conditioning, they directed me to a room with chewed gum on the walls and macaroni and cheese containers, used, on the floor. When I let the know this room had garbage in it, they took me to a 3rd room. The 3rd room looked like someone was living it. Complete with old fast food cup and wrappers on the table. The hotel front desk person never once apologized or tried to make amends. I ended up losing faith in finding a clean room to sleep in and left to find a new hotel.
I still had to return to the Mead for the conference and was interested to learn many of my peers had encountered similar issues.
If you prefer your hotels to be clean, sanitary and in working condition, don't stay at the Mead.

Pros: the bed was comfy and the remote worked. The conferences room were at a comfortable temperature. The staff helping with the convention was friendly and helpful. There was ample parking.||Cons: the bathroom mold in not one, not two, but THREE different rooms. By the time, I looked at the third room, I knew it wasn't likely to get better so I toughed it out. I shouldn't have. As I tried to fall asleep, I was wheezing. I was with a convention and almost half of the people I talked to had the same, or worse, experiences. The entire place was dated and utilitarian. Front desk staff was noncommittal and unapologetic.

This hotel makes me sad. It has seen much, much better days. The bones are still there and it could be quite nice but it is crystal clear that the current owner/manager has completely given up. Everything in this hotel is in various states of disrepair. The staff is indifferent prickly and humorless. No cleaning service was done in our room during our visit. Everything is shody and broken. For example they have a sauna, the water bucket used for putting water on the rocks was a garbage can, and the cheap wooden spoon that is used to dump water in was split in half. The pool has mold and mildew everywhere, the fitness center has almost no ac and it is extremely humid due to its proximity to the pool. We sweated much more than in the sauna trying to workout. Nearly every machine is broken in significant ways.
Our room was in horrible condition, continuing the theme of everything broken, the ceiling had a 10 ft long water stain with a literal hole in it. The room had a strong smell of mold and mildew and the AC barely worked, shutting down completely several times. The bathroom vanity lights had 1 of 4 bulbs working, the tub is surrounded by mold, they put watered down conditioner in the "shower gel" container, the towels were strangely small and beyond cheap. The bed and pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable the sheets are threadbare and the elastic is gone on the fitted sheet so you need to adjust it constantly to avoid sleeping directly on the mattress. The TV is a Roku but doesn't have many apps on it, no YouTube for example, which is strange as the remote, which was missing the battery cover, has a YouTube button on it. The Internet is terrible, very slow if it works at all, went down completely at least a dozen times during our stay. I could go on about the room but you get the point. This hotel should be condemed at this point as I believe there is a HUGE mold problem throughout. Whomever owns this should be ashamed of thereselves and not be allowed to operate a hotel anywhere in the US.

Bigger doesn't mean better. This is the biggest hotel in Rapids, but it's only subpar. Quite old and needs modern upgrades. Absolutely disgusting!! AC problems...outside of rooms...like 98 degrees. Pulled mattress off pull out couch and a huge spot on mattress & frame of some kind of brown liquid???? Changed to another room that when we walked in had 2 box fans running and smelled like someone smoke a pack or 2 of Marbs. Other teammates also left because of how nasty...bathtub full of some kind of brown water. Got stuck in elevator. This place may have been nice in the early 90s but needs a huge renovation! Unfortunately, for a stay that was $230/night, the experience was not as good as I expected. We rented a King bed with a queen pullout couch that is supposed to sleep 5 (which is how it was advertised on the site). The size of the room was good, the king bed was a king, the pullout couch was NOT a queen. It was barely bigger than a twin bed and was not big enough for my two teenage children. The annoying part is that the space where the love seat pullout couch was in could have accommodated a regular couch pullout bed. I have stayed in hotels for half the cost that had a 3-cushion couch pullout bed that fit my teenagers without a problem.
I informed the desk of the issue and was told a roll away would be brought to our room by a gentleman at the desk. 3 hours later, at about 10:00 p.m., I went back down to the desk only for a new lady to be there. She was amazing. I knew she had a lot on her plate (discussed below), but she still got the roll away to us less than 30 minutes later.

The entire hotel was having issues with the air conditioning. I will give them that it was during the Midwest Heat Wave of June 2025, but teammates that stayed in other hotels in Wisconsin Rapids did not have the same problems Hotel Mead seemed to be having. The hallways were stifling and our room was just barely cool enough to tolerate, at least the part where the king bed was located. The area with the pullout bed had no airflow and was hot our entire stay.

I really liked the tavern though!

Perfect location and solid, if unspectacular hotel. The outside needs a lot of work! You could film an episode of Last of Us in the parking lot. Lots of weeds and looks like it hasn't been tended to in a long time. That first impression is a shame, because the hotel itself is alright. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Everything you need, nothing more. AC kept the room at a decent temp even in very hot weather. Price for the rooms is reasonable for what you get. Staff were efficient and helpful and the rest of the interior was in decent shape. Very walkable to restaurants and bars in the area. I would stay here again next time I'm back.

It was a 98Β° day we were there and the evening wasn't much better
It was hot and humid! The air conditioner didn't work in the first room we were put in. We waited for the maintenance man because they were fully booked. Ultimately our room air couldn't be fixed and I had to really complain about the 3 1/2 hour long wait in a muggy, hot room about not getting a room with air. They finally were able to move us to a room that someone had not checked into yet because it was almost midnight at this point! The room was a nicer room and cooler but we found out the air conditioner in that room wasn't working or keeping up eith the heat either! I complained again and we got a fan and 30% off our room costs as there were no other rooms to move us to. When showering the next day we found out the whole bottle of shower gel (of the 3 complimentary bottles that stay in the shower) in the bathroom was empty! They had never checked or refilled that and they had bar soap at only 1 of the 2 sinks in the room. Let's just say that service was not up to par for what was supposed to be an upper scale convention center. Oh and did I mention that even though they took 30% off the cost of the room, they charged a $10 service fee? Yeah, probably because they had to do housekeeping on the initial room they kept us in for 3 1/2 hours before switching us (which was NOT OUR FAULT as I complained right away and they TOLD us to stay there) because they put another poor family in that hot room right after we checked out of it!!!

My young family (2 children under age 10) stayed here for an event near by. The building has warning signs on it to inform its guests of β€œproblematic activity” occurring late at night. Once my family got our room, the AC was not working and we learn of other guests being moved to 4 other rooms because their a/c was not working. (It was 90 today)

In addition, I find that the base plate on the dead bolt is not properly screwed in and the maintenance guy looked at the door and never came back. Now I am sitting at my door as my family sleeps with only the chain keeping the door moderately locked.

Times may be rough, but apparently Hotel Mead needs a new business model.

Skip this hotel. Room was not clean. Kids handprints on windows. Some hard like substance stuck on window. Boogers stuck on side wall. Dusty. Hot tub has a terrible dirty green like nasty ring on walls of it from not cleaning it. I know that since i wiped a small area to see if it was just stain nope! Its dirty. Very groose. Outside patio area is a mess with dirt and just runned down area. Not inviting at all. Dont waste your money. I am here now and trying to find somewhere else to go. Just groose. Really sad. Father’s Day Weekend at Hotel Mead – A Hidden Gem in Wisconsin Rapids

When we planned our trip to visit a friend in Wisconsin Rapids, we found ourselves at a crossroads between staying at the familiar Cobblestone or trying a new spot called Hotel Mead. Ultimately, we pulled the trigger on Hotel Meadβ€”and we’re glad we did. The location and aesthetics sold us from the moment we arrived.

Upon entering our rooms, we were impressed. The only hiccup was the AC not working, but thankfully the windows opened on the third floor, giving us some fresh air. The rooms came with amenities you don’t always see in a hotelβ€”a microwave, refrigerator, a pool for the kids, a hot tub, and even a sauna and massage chairs, which truly elevated the experience. It turned into one of the best Father’s Day weekends I could ask for.

Each night, we made our way down to the bar where we were greeted by the friendly faces of Raquel and Pegboard. Their warm hospitality made us feel right at home. One evening, we needed a place to feed our cranky (and hungry) young children before bed. We took a chance on the newly revitalized Whitney, and while it might not wow everyone, the fettuccine hit the spot and the serviceβ€”despite being just one waitressβ€”was commendable.

A big perk of the location was the walking distance to the baseball fields, where we caught the Rafters game. Despite watching them put up seven errors and lose by one, it was still a fun, exciting game early in the season.

Afterward, we returned to the bar, which was lively thanks to a wedding party. While we think there could be a bit more structure around the dog policy (an aggressive dog barking and nipping made things uncomfortable), we were just four guys at the bar enjoying a drink while the wedding party controlled the vibe. So, who are we to complain?

All in all, Hotel Mead is a place we’ll continue to come back to for years to comeβ€”whether it’s to represent our UWSP Pointers, enjoy the spa, or relax in the bar and our rooms. Huge thanks to the staff, the new ownership, and the people of Wisconsin Rapids for making this such a memorable stay.

I’m not sure this hotel has housekeeping. We checked in late Tuesday. Wednesday night when we returned we had fresh towels but the trash was full and nothing else had been done. Thursday we were out all day. It was our anniversary. We had sand all over us as we spent time at the beach. We came back to shower the lake off us. NO HOT WATER. We got into bed dirty. When we left this morning I asked the front desk representative to PLEASE make sure our room was cleaned. She was dismissive. I clearly communicated we stripped the beds because we had to go to bed dirty. We just came back after a long day and all of towels and dirty sheets are still in the pile we left them. I’m so over this hotel.

Very well located suite hotel at a very reasonable price. Rooms are good size, bed little hard but still comfortable. We were in a king suite and appreciated the separate areas each with own TV. Stayed here for a work meeting. The hotel was fine, but unfortunately I left my coat in the closet of my room when I left. Called the next day, but they couldn't find my coat. I’ve been staying at Meads long-term and it’s truly been an amazing experience. The breakfast is excellent every day β€” fresh fruit, rotating choices, and always well-prepared. Evenings are a treat too with complimentary coffee and cookies that make the place feel warm and inviting. The hotel has everything you’d want: a clean pool, relaxing hot tub, game area, and a cozy atmosphere overall. There’s even a nice restaurant on-site, and the staff is always kind and attentive. We stayed in room 471. When we walked in, the room had a very strange smell. Who knows where it came from. The cabinet that holds the fridge and tv looks like someone’s cat went to town on it. The wall that the tv stand was on had a crack separating the wall from the ceiling that stretched the whole wall. There was also a random chair placed in the corner. In the bathroom, the fan did not work and the shampoo had rust in it. Nasty. The shower also had like no water pressure. In the hallway, there was mold all over the windows and around it. The hotel is advertised as being updated but our room looked like it was last redone since 1990 (except there was a nice mattress). The room was also musty (room 301) but it was at least spacious. Thankfully we beat the crazy check in line because they only had one person working the front desk. I went for coffee downstairs and they were out. This is a very old hotel. The carpets are filthy, shower grout is black in some areas, and the elevators are gross looking. Our bed did not have a mattress pad on it, the sheet was just on the mattress. When I told the front desk clerk about it at check-out, it didn't seem to phase her. She was not making a good impression herself however, with feet on the desk as I walked up, and definitely NOT dressed for success. There was also a $10.00 fee on my statement. It may be the nicest hotel in the county, but it still has a couple of little problems. The rooms in the East tower is still warm. Furniture is a little dated. The rest is a hotel is lovely, the landscaping is lovely. We were there in September and it is very busy. we requested a first floor room, because we have dogs, we were there for a dog event. We still ended up on the third floor in the other wing that is hot all the time that was a minus.

Restaurant was understaffed. And they had a cute little luau end of summer out on the patio, which didn’t help the staffing. The food half of it was cold, due to staffing, but the waitresses were lovely and very understanding. Three out of five.

Otherwise everything looked very clean. The continental breakfast buffet had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh variety of fruit, hash browns, waffles, French toast, coffee, fruit juices, and more. Terrible Food and service. I went to the restaurant part with my sister from out of state. First the Bruscetta was the worst I've ever tasted the balsamic sauce were beads instead of the drizzle which had no flavor and burst in your mouth so now your mouth is slimy, we could not eat it all. Backed potatoe was a bit undercooked yet still edible but the New York Strip was not cooked well done (what I asked for) waitress did confess on putting it in wrong. But then I had to send it back again cause it still wasn't cooked all the way. Now this one steak has been cooked 3 times so it was dryer then a desert and charcoal burnt to a crisp. I did not finish it. My sister didn't like her food either but figured it was still edible so she finished. When the waitress came back we told her the steak and the bruscetta was terrible So please remove from bill. She had to run it by the manager and apparently he would only allow 20% taken off but then she had the nerve to ask if that was OK (not even close) I did pay but gave no tip cause the waitress herself was also bad. When we first got there we were standing around for about 10 min and right when we were about to leave she came out. There was no bell nor sign. Then she told me they have pretty much all the sodas so I ask for an orange crush (they do have that). Then before we order the bruscetta we ordered the spinach dip (they did not have that). Before I ordered the backed potatoe I wanted the mashed potatoes (didn't have that either). And through all those she wasn't even knowledgeable about what was available. She would take the order and an other waitress had to tell her. Over all worse place I have ever been to not exaggerating and we will never go there again. Good luck to whomever decides to pay that kind of money to be served by useless waitress and cooks who need culinary school. I would post pictures but I'm guessing with bad reviews they removed that option.
