Wonderful hotel, clean and orderly
Smelled great. Easy check in and bartender Bryton was excellent. Food was delicious and not overly expensive. Cocktails went down good but would suggest a better choice of wine brands. Cozy bed along with superb bedding. I slept like a baby and can't wait to stay again, next time for fun, not business.
Thanks again for making a difference in a hotel.

Shawn was great, handling a number of guests after a Packer game. Calm, professional, offering options for dining. And then to be at the desk at checkout in the AM, Most welcoming. Also, noting the staff member in the Cafe' Monday morning, very welcoming and personable and makes a great Latte. ||The property was clean and rooms comfortable. Great job to the team!

We stay here every year when we go to a Packer game. The rooms are great. The restaurant is very hit and miss. The first few times we stayed, it was great. Not anymore. It’s not consistently open. Don’t count on it for food. We have been burned one too many times. Last night they wouldn’t seat us because they said they were understaffed.there were several open tables. They sent us across the street for bar food. Not what we were looking for, but we were hungry. When we went back to the hotel, there were more people that had been seated and were eating. We were only a party of two so made no sense. We were not happy. Going forward we will plan to eat before going to the hotel. So disappointing.

A hotel stay and wedding venue was absolutely perfect!!! delicious food, beautiful venue aesthetics, convenient all-in-one experience, accommodating staff, and the ease of having both the ceremony and lodging at one location, creating a stress-free and memorable experience for the couple and their guests. Hotel rooms are beautiful. Definitely will be staying again if necessary.

Great location and free parking! Rundown, outdated, dirty and falling apart hotel. Front desk staff (1 person) was overwhelmed with 1 person in front of me and 1 person behind me in line. She was very unfriendly, unhelpful. Elevator dirty. Room had a heavy smell of mold. Carpet was not vacuumed upon arrival, stained, and very worn. Wheeled in makeshift loud air conditioner in room, dirty shower with hair on floor, cracked toilet. Asked for room to be vacuumed, new towels since we stayed 2 days -none was done. Honestly this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. The sad part -front desk staff did not care!

Always where we stay when visiting family. Great music, fun bar tenders, incredible accommodations. The only thing I would love more is a room with a clawfoot tub. I need to ask! Perfect place for any special occasion or “just because . . . “. You will not be disappointed.

Convenient parking garage hooked by elevator to lobby. Front desk clerk was not cordial and did not want to even say "hello".||||Nicely decorated but bathroom opening in a 2 queen bedroom is centered right beside a bed - strange. Closet down little hallway has no light inside or outside. Had to use cell phone for light as it was very dark.

Beautiful place! Helps to drive by lower door and drop off luggage before parking in ramp. If your visiting on a weekend, get a room away from the 18 Hands bar across the street because they have loud music till 11. King bed is soft, pillows are great. Love the hotel theme.

A very nice up scale hotel! you can tell right when you walked in with the marble flooring and piano bar it would be nice. however, the room rates were not over the top. We had a room facing main street and it was a little loud with fondue fest and the local bands playing which was expected.

Nice hotel in downtown Fond du Lac. Walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Decent price and in good condition. Big rooms with large buds. TV inside the footboard! Would definitely stay again. Only thing they’re missing here is a swimming pool (supposedly it is being remodeled for 2026) and a free breakfast

It was confusing on how to checkin and take luggage to the room as there is limited parking in front of hotel. The hotel elevator is tiny when one has a luggage cart and two people. The room was nice but small. Did not like the rainwater shower and the fact we ONLY had 2 washcloths, 2 hand towels and 2 bath towels. I understand housekeeping could come each night but we did not want to chance anything being taken from our room. No microwave and the tiny fridge did not keep any of our items cold (fortunately we had a cooler to keep our cold items in). The blackout curtains did not block out all the light because our room was right next to the outside wall lights AND the street lights. We were disappointed in the lack of a free breakfast or even free coffee in the lobby for guests. I requested a top floor away from noisy elevators, stairs and ice machines as it was my birthday trip. We were placed in a corner room right on main street where you could hear the cars and motorcycles ALL NIGHT LONG--especially annoying when they rev up there engines to go through the stop lights!! Not a moments sleep was had:( I even responded to the welcome text that I rcvd complaining of the noise but no answer. The hotel was not busy the first night so we could have easily been upgraded but the gal a the front desk when we checked in was not in the giving or helpful mood. She acted as if I was bothering her when we checked in. The hotel lobby was amazing but, as stated, wish there could have, at the very least, been free coffee in the lobby instead of the tiny unsanitized coffee makers in the rooms. Would we stay here again? Only if I could not find a better hotel that is off of a busy loud downtown street, away from stop lights and that cater more to their guests.

Dont expect the hotel to adhere to or even try to honor your special requests. It was my birthday trip and we wanted a top floor room away from stairs and elevators. We did not get. The hotel was not full and could have easily put us on a different floor but the gal at the front desk could have cared less. The reason we wanted a top floor was because of the road noise...it is awful!! Hotel is on a corner so when cars go through the light, they rev their engines, etc. The room was clean and well kept but there are not many trash cans or towels and the shower is a rainwater shower head that makes it hard to wash soap off. The svc in upgrading patrons or honoring requests to make trips special is very lacking. Had the hotel of went above and beyond to help make our stay as requested, I would have given a better review. For being wyndham rewards members, I expected more...

My wife and I made a booking at Hotel Retlaw through a third-party. When we arrived, the hotel had no record of our booking (because it wasn't sent to them by the 3rd party). I was tremendously impressed with the way Hotel Retlaw's staff handled the situation. They more than accounted for any inconvenience caused by the third-party. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and near lots of food and drink options.

My mother and I were extremely dissatisfied with our visit to Hotel Retlaw. The hotel is in a perfect downtown location, has a very pretty lobby, has very friendly staff, and the rooms were clean, but that's about where it ends. My mother had reserved a room with 2 queen beds nearly a year ago. However, we arrived early in the afternoon only to find out that they'd overbooked the rooms and there were no rooms with 2 beds available. The agent at the front desk was very nice and tried to find alternatives, but the best he could do was a room with a king bed and a pull-out couch. We’re of an age where sleeping on a pull-out couch is simply not acceptable, and even if it was, it would have been impossible to do, as we could not get in or out of the bathroom if the couch was pulled out. Additionally, when we asked to speak to a manager about the situation, we were told there is no manager available on weekends. This was the most egregious issue, but we felt several other things were either lacking or at the very least awkward, to include the following:
• The parking situation is a mess. You have to go down to the main floor, then out through the smoking courtyard to a very musty/hot/stinky parking garage to get in another elevator to go up to at least the 4th floor to reach your car.
• If it is after-hours, there is no key-card entry into the hotel and you must call a phone number and wait for someone to let you in. We’re early risers and encountered this at around 5am on a Saturday morning, and were just thankful a staff member happened to be walking by the door at that particular moment. We thought this was just a technical glitch, as they had the card readers, but they just didn’t work. However, in looking at the reviews after we came home, I’m seeing this has been mentioned multiple times for at least two years.
• The “fancy” french doors leading into the bathroom in the room close, but with a gap in-between that makes things awkward. Anyone sitting on the couch is either looking right at (or through) these doors or directly at a toilet if the doors are open.
• The TV coming out of the foot of the bed is a cute novelty, but it’s not very practical, as this means the only way to watch TV is if you’re lying in bed. The TV is not visible from the couch. Again, this could be an awkward situation if you’re traveling with someone other than your significant other.
• The mini fridge is the smallest I’ve ever seen and has no freezer compartment, and there was no microwave.
• There was no clock in the room.
• There were no vending machines on the floors. There was a tiny collection of things available for purchase at the front desk, but that was all.
• There was no continental breakfast or even complimentary coffee available in the lobby. For the price of the room, I would have expected at least coffee.
All in all, my mother and I are close enough we managed to make the king-sized bed work, but we shouldn’t have had to, and none of the other things mentioned are anything we’d expect for the price we paid and from an upscale hotel as this one claims to be. The only reason I’m awarding two stars instead of one is thanks to the very friendly staff and the cleanliness of the room. Needless to say, we will not return.

This hotel has an interesting history which the staff will be glad to share with you about. They clearly take pride in the property and go above and beyond to not only answer your questions but offer additional information and assistance. Truly excellent service.||The room was lovely also - spacious and stylish, with an amenity I've actually not seen elsewhere - a TV that's nested in the bed frame and slides up and down using a remote! Perfect for watching TV in bed, and you don't have to be staring at the blank TV screen the rest of the time. Bathrooms have hot water, great pressure, and fancy toiletries. They were clean and recently renovated.||I was only here for one night but would be happy to get a chance to come back!

We arrived an hour and 10 minutes before 3:00 p.m. They told us that if we wanted the room, we had to pay $30. I don't know what the room was like, but our first experience was awful. Very rude people. We came here because the last time we were here the people was very nice and
We loved it. Too bad. I wanted to add that a couple with a child arrived and they didn’t pay the 30 dollars.then few minutes later Another couple arrived and they did the check in without paying any fee. So the fee depends on who the client is. I understand this.

First impressions of this historic hotel are wonderful. Monochromatic classic colors, timeless styling, and high ceilings in the lobby. That is, unfortunately, where the admiration ends. The single king room was very tight, no microwave, smallest fridge I've ever seen in a hotel. My stay was for two weeks and my room was serviced maybe three times. The second week I didn't have service for 6 days straight. Check out was also a disaster that almost made me late to work.

Gorgeous hotel. Very clean. The staff were helpful and customer service oriented. Special shout out to Mindy on the night shift. The parking situation isn’t ideal, but due to location, there doesn’t seem like much can be done about that. I thought it was cool that the television comes out of the bed and I also liked the lighting under the bed as well. Neat. It was convenient that the hotel is walking distance to so many places. The farmers market wasn’t overly crowded with a varied array of vendors.

Already planning our next trip here! Highly recommend this place! Came for business and fun! The lobby is beautiful, rooms were clean and spacious. The TV in the footboard was such a cool thing and the convenience of shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance was amazing! We had the privilege of meeting the staff members, Mandy, Art, Shawn, and Pearl who were all super friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of! We LOVED the sitting area between the parking garage and hotel to get some work done! Comfy seating and shaded! Only thing I would like to see fixed before we come again is the keypads to let people in to the hotel after 11 PM. Having to call the hotel to have a staff member let you in was very inconvenient especially for the price we paid and it irritated a lot of people that were walking by us in the sitting area. PLEASE make sure your staff gets recognized, because they were truly incredible! Thanks!

Love this hotel, great meeting point for friends who live in opposite directions. Walkable to restaurants and bars. Room was perfect size and beautiful. The staff could not be nicer!!! Big thank you to Pearl, Shawn, Art and Mandy!! Love the outdoor corridor to sit and have some drinks and laughs. Only thing I would suggest is to fix the key scan from the corridor to the hotel because the door locks pretty early and you can’t sit hang out in the corridor area/back entrance after that without having to call the front desk to come let you in every time someone needs to get in for the bathroom or just coming back to the hotel.

The hotel and the rooms are beautiful!! The fitness area had everything we needed—elliptical, treadmill, bikes, free weights, yoga mats and weighted balls. There isn’t a pool, so I was bummed about that. Go to a restaurant called The Diner for breakfast. It was very tasty and the prices were surprisingly low. There was a farmers market the weekend we were there. The weather was beautiful which was a nice change from living in the South. THERE IS NO POOL.
I’m saying that initially so you don’t make the same mistake we did…
The gal that we interacted with for check in was nice and the reason I booked this hotel was for its obvious charm and unique decor but the main reason was so my family could SWIM.
The room was clean and the bed was VERY comfortable but…
- The setup of the room is very bizarre. As other reviewers mention there is a gap in the doors for the bathroom (which is directly across from the toilet 🙃) so that’s a bit awkward.
- there is no bathtub, only a shower with a glass door (no privacy)
- the fan/AC unit is very very loud. There’s no way to shut the fan off, it only has a low or high setting
- when I went to the front desk to ask if we could possibly be refunded to move to another hotel that has a pool, another female employee I spoke to said that she’d call the manager to see what they can do and he’d leave me a message (there was no message and I’m doubtful she called him….)
She said that the photo on their Google maps is an AI generated photo that Google refuses to take down, however it was posted 8 years ago (which is long before AI was around/used largely)
All this to say we were rather disappointed with the stay we had as we felt mislead and unheard.
Perhaps it was my mistake?? But I feel more could have been done to help rectify the confusion and hopefully my review will benefit others in the future.
(You can see from my screenshots the date on the pool photo as well as the description that merely says there is “no hot tub” but never mentions there being no pool…)

Reserved for 2 rooms but due to their high (and not advertised) incidental costs; we had to get 1 room. Was hoping to pay cash which they don't accept. Not much of a credit card person. The bathroom door has a good sized slit that you can see through. So I can hear and see my teenage son using the restroom and he can see me; yeah for us!! The fridge is the smallest I have ever seen. The lights are in weird spaces so you cannot see the closet in its tiny hallway.
The AC was running in 20 degree weather when we arrived so we were freezing for a few hours until the room warmed up. Every time the heat turns on, it is so loud. Kept us awake all night. I asked staff, all rooms are like this. Family stated the hotel was just renovated. Why wasn't the HVAC system updated? Also why skimp out on towels. 2 towels in a room suited for 4 people.
I've been to numerous hotels. I don't like paying for an overpriced lobby. I want the room to be comfortable for the price I'm paying. We should've went with another hotel that spent less on their lobby and more on their rooms.
Edited: I am so sick of companies writing a reply to your review with broken promises. Do you know how many reviews I read about the small fridges and noisy furnaces prior to mine? After the first night, I mentioned to your staff I was unhappy. I asked for a different room but was told that all of the rooms had the same noisy furnace. They offered to send maintenance up. Want to know who never showed up or what didn't get repaired?!?!? So please the only way your management team didn't know of these concerns is if you've been living in a bubble! Which shows me that you really don't care and are going to do absolutely nothing about it. I checked out 2 days early and requested your company refund the last 2 days of my stay. The same front desk clerk that told me maintenance would check out the furnace stated she would process the return. Want to know what hasn't been processed yet?!?!? It's been most of the day! You want to apologize; refund my money for the terrible stay. Words mean nothing to me; actions do!! If anyone wants to hear how loud it was; I recorded a video. Message me and I'll send it to you.

Very sweet, considerate, helpful in any way and she makes a great first impression when walking through your front door. I own a retail store and wanted to let you know, don't lose her! :)

I gave them 4 stars because, the place is gorgeous in every way except on their web site it states you get a hot breakfast & yet they don't have any accommodations to even get a doughnut!!!! If we had known we would have been able to plan ahead of time and looked for a place to go for breakfast! also their is no microwave in the room and we always assume that there is one especially in a fancy Wyndham Motel!! I called the front desk and they said they only had one in the basement!!!! Also there was no vending machines anywhere to even just grab a snack.... which made us hangry!!!! {hungry & angry} They do have a lounge in a dining room which doesn't open until 5pm and closes at 9pm! The food prices were crazy!!! But all and all the place is beautiful inside. We were there for my birthday and our 41st anniversary. New owners have taken over since we were there last.... about 10 yrs ago,,, That could be the reason...

There’s been a decline in the quality of amenities over the last number of years. Just little things but still annoying. Best example is hotel shampoo, conditioner and body wash in pumps glued to the wall of the shower. Terrible idea. I’ve seen this in other hotels and it’s really in poor taste. All to cut costs I’m sure. What I would tell everyone is just bring your own. There have been other cutbacks too and it’s becoming rather disappointing. They used to have actual mugs for coffee in the morning. Now it’s just paper cups like everyone else. So sad. I’ll be looking at other hotels in the area when I’m in town. And, oh yes, the staff, particularly the front desk staff, have completely turned over. Friendliness and recognition when I’ve stayed there in the past is missing.

A Fantastic experience. This is a hidden gem in the middle of Wisconsin. Everything went well and it was my birthday so the very welcoming and nice women at check in gave us a beautiful one bedroom room. The hotel is so unique, beautiful and historic. The room was enormous, spotless ands the bed was so comfortable. The tv was sleekly hidden in a cabinet at the foot of the bed and made lounging in bed watching tv a great experience. Free parking in the garage next door was an unexpected plus. All in all a perfect hotel stay. Can’t wait to come back and bring some friends to spend more time in Fond Du Lac!!

What an amazing hotel! I absolutely loved the style, decor, and classy vibe. The bar area was great and we had some delicious drinks. We had heard that the hotel was haunted and requested to stay on the 7th floor, specifically either in room 717 or other rooms with sightings. We were in room 734 and it was beautiful! After a lovely night stay, I can confirm that we saw zero sightings and in fact, I wouldn't even call this hotel haunted. The service was a little slow, at the bar and the front desk, but the rest of the experience made up for it. I hope get a chance to go back and stay again, and would highly recommend this hotel!

Stayed here overnight while attending a wedding in the area. The lobby is MOST impressive and definitely has that WOW factor. The service was pleasant, the Wyndham app check in was horrendous.. 4 pages to fill out for check-in… a ridiculous waste of time. The Restaurant was not open, the Gift Boutique was not open.. this was on a Saturday afternoon/early evening in October. The only thing with amenities that WAS open was a little snack counter hidden in a corner on a Sunday morning, with limited hours. The rooms looked spectacular when you walked in.. but once you settled in, you realized that the only cleaning that was done was a linen change on the bed, garbage cans emptied and the vanity and the shower wiped down (the complimentary body wash was completely empty and not refilled)….an empty gallon of water was still sitting by the bedroom garbage can when I walked in a “clean room”. Touchable surfaces were very visibly dusty and there were clothing tags on the bedroom floor, left by the previous guest because I didn’t purchase anything on this visit. So either a quick vacuum was done… or none at all.
In all honesty, my home isn’t always dusted and vacuumed perfectly either… but I’m not hosting guests in large amounts that bring their home contents into rooms that others share.
*Note: please remember to bring your own bottled water and snacks , as I did not see any vending machines and the snack shop has unreliable hours.
*and because this was a weekend, we paid way more than $91/night.

Wonderful stay. The parking was confusing at first, but is surprisingly convenient. The lobby is gorgeous, the room is gorgeous, the king size bed is so comfy and roomy, and the TV! THE TV!! Not to mention the fact that the Cellar District restaurant is about a 3 minute walk from here, and that food is incredible. Came here for a comfortable stay with my partner, and no joke, we are going to stay here again and again and again.

Don't really know what to say that would fully encompass our satisfaction with the Retlaw. Our family celebrated our daughter's wedding at this hotel recently and it was decided to hold the rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception together, all at the Retlaw Hotel. As we would learn, it was a wise choice to have everything centralized here. I have attended very numerous such events at other venues, but was never more impressed with the fine accommodations, setup, meals and service. From beginning to end, our family as well as our guests were all deeply impressed by the attention of the staff, presentation of the chef and his team and the constant desire on the part of *all* personnel at the Retlaw to make certain that this would be a memorable occasion. And it was! Finally, it needs to be mentioned that the cost for all services involved was very reasonable. Particular kudos to Lynn, Tricia, Deena and all of their hard-working (this was especially evident!) staff. Cannot recommend the Retlaw more highly. Six stars if we could!

The Retlaw Hotel wows the moment you walk into the lobby. It is covered in high dollar marble and sparkly lights. Unfortunately that is where the wow factor starts to fade. The hotel is in the downtown area and the location feels unsafe and is quite dirty. Upon check in the person checking is in called another staff member from her cell phone to see if our room was ready because “they’ve had some problems with that”. We made it up to our king suite which was reasonably clean, albeit surprisingly dusty on the lamps, Kleenex box, and table tops. The coffee and tea packets were spotted with what I assume was coffee and the bathroom walls had splashes of something on the walls. The room decor was very cool. The headboard on the head was tufted leather. The red curtains really stood out, as did the striped wall. The sprinkler in the bath was surrounded by an unfinished hole. We didn’t really enjoy the tv being in the foot of the bed, as you couldn’t watch tv from any other location than in the bed. Not much purpose for the couch in the room. It was mostly quiet however, which was nice. And the parking garage took good care of my vehicle. The town itself leaves much to be desired. Being so close to the lake, we assumed it would be a cute “lake town”, but the city management has missed that opportunity and it feels more like a “meth town” with all the adults riding around on dirt bikes with back packs. We won’t stay here again.

We had a queen suite. The set-up of the room was odd. We opened the door and nearly fell into one of the beds. The bathroom had double doors, which we promptly stubbed our toes on during the night. The bathroom was right next to the other queen bed. The closet was in a very narrow hallway. It was fine for a 1 - or 2-night stay, but if you had a lot of luggage, there was nowhere to put it.
Beautiful hotel.

After the first day, room service stopped taking out the trash in the room and it appeared as if they just made the bed and then left.
When trying to check out, they took a full day to figure out how to actually check us out and get a receipt. They said they would call me back when it was figured out, but never called and I had to call multiple times to get my receipt.

Beautiful building and rooms. Very modern but still had the original design mixed in. Staff was very nice. Only things were water for shower didn't stay hot for long, and did are locked after 11pm and you have to can the desk to have them let you in. Great location though. We could watch the live band from our room which was great because we didn't have to worry about crowds. Feather pillows were an added bonus that my husband and I greatly loved. I’m a Fondy local but often stay at the Retlaw. The renovations throughout are truly breathtaking, especially the lobby. The guest rooms each have different shapes due to the architectural structure of the building. All guest rooms have black, ivory and red color palette with high end furnishings and a marble bathroom floor.
This particular room I posted pictures of is now a favorite of mine for the view and spaciousness.
The room was clean and well maintained. I unfortunately, have stayed in other rooms that did not have the same cleanliness but the classic beauty has always made up for it. As well as most staff members customer service. ⭐️ ETTA⭐️ has made many of my stays 10 out of 10. Whatever she’s paid she deserves a raise!
I’m considering doing a voyage of staying in every room and posting my experience 💙

I live an hour away and have no real reason to stay in fond du lac but I cannot put into words just how stunning this property is!!! The rooms, the LOBBY, the staff…all are just wonderful! Lynn helped me so so much with setting up a photo shoot for my brand (I work in the wedding Industry) and Etta at front desk was an absolute DOLL on the day of my shoot!! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, the review complaining about the pool? That’s just not doing proper research honestly. My only complaint is that it’s not closer to me 💕 Highly recommend!!
