Comfortable restaurant trying to be up-market. Service was good and efficient however the food didn't all quite live up to expectations. The pizza with prosciutto was very good with excellent crust as was the white fish, delicately cooked. However the carrot and fava beans were too aldante. If they had been baby veg, searing to cook would have worked. As it was, they were too crunchy and lacking flavor. The biggest disappointment was the New York steak. It has a good sauce but was too salty. The meat had little flavor, too chewy and lots of inedible parts. The squash and onions were ok but not to my taste.
The menu is too limited and overpriced.
Won't return. Food - 2 stars, Atmosphere - 3 stars.

We stayed in a private home while we were on the island and had dinner here with friends. Once again the food and service were terrific. One of the mains was a bean soup that was out of this world, as were the fresh with an exceptional light dressing. Our table was on a nice deck overlooking the lawn and crowd who were clearly enjoying the live band.

Excellent restaurant with great staff working during peak summer night. Band outside so our group was seated inside. Call for reservations so you don't have to wait for a table and get in during a peak time. The menu was limited with no soup offering; but had an app and pizza which was amazing. Tried the ice cream for dessert and it was very good as well. Highly recommend and give them a try because the Island does lack healthier, quality options for everyone.

This is a magical place, the setting is gorgeous, the food was amazing, and service is outstanding. We’re been here four times now. It’s time to write a review. The first time we came here in 2021 was wonderful. Unfortunately, the three times following have been nothing short of a disappointment. Last night, the butter was the highlight of the meal. Servers/staff were nice. Atmosphere is pleasant. The food could easily be recreated with a short trip to Costco. Each spread was boring with little to offer. Flavors were bland for a restaurant which is supposed to be offering a fine dining experience. Wine selection is strong yet the bottle we had had been poorly stored with a damaged cork. The shared pizza was low quality and lacking.

I’d suggest spending your money elsewhere. The steady decline in regard to food quality is concerning.

What an amazing restaurant. A place where each dish surprises you with its quality, inventiveness and taste and is fairly priced.
Went for a dinner with a reservation made a couple of days in advance.
Started with soup of the day, fritters and pizza, followed by whitefish and ice cream for desert.
Service was prompt, friendly and free of any pretentiousness.
Solid selection of drinks and wine from variety of regions like Sicily and Chile.
We enjoyed every single bite of the food and sip of wine and left warm hearted.
Very glad to have found this place.

This is just for the restaurant. Very unique setting with an open dining area that seated 10+ tables.
The place is farm to table so the selection is limited but well rounded.
You can have fish, chicken, beef as your main.
Sides included a variety of eclectic items that one should try when given the chance.
The overall meal was good but not great .
Pricing seemed extremely high. I guess when you are on an island, you need to pay a little more.

We did not stay here but we dined here earlier this week, and it was the best meal my wife and I had in months! Amazing appetizers and charcuterie board! The smoked whitefish appetizer was wondrous, as was the grilled whitefish. My wife loved her salad. We both were slightly confused by the roasted japanese turnips which were cut into wedges and looked like lemon wedges to us. We both tried to squeeze them on the fish! Turns out they were delicious veggies in their own right. Their desserts were a delight too. The best food we found on the island!

Amazing farm to table restaurant with such a cozy ambiance. If you are staying overnight or visiting this has got to be the best place on the island. We had the pizza, beef, and chicken. The pizza and chicken were probably the best. The pudding dessert was ok and nectarine/vanilla ice cream was creamy and refreshing. You can eat inside or outside. Intimate beautiful room. The bed is so comfy for a good night sleep. Tasteful colorful hummingbird decoration. I love the selection of tea which is important to me. One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. Went there for the first time with my family last year and we had to return again this year. The service is fantastic, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel itself exudes charm and you can practically feel your blood pressure lower the minute you walk in the door.
The complimentary breakfast includes fresh rotating baked goods prepared by the staff and it's to die for.

To top it all off dinner at the farm-to-table restaurant, we all agreed, was one of the best meals we'd had all year.

The perfect place to stay while visiting Washington Island - and if you don't stay there do yourself a favor and at least have a meal at the restaurant.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Washington while we were on the island for a wedding. The staff was so welcoming and helpful. They answered questions and gave us advice on where to find things. The room was beautiful and clean. The grounds are beautiful and we even met the owner. She was so kind and sweet. 10/10 recommend if you need a room on the island. We will be back!

Celebrated my 70th birthday here 5 years ago. Five years later we went to the island for my 75th.||Once again we stayed at the Hotel Washington. After the years Jeanne recognized us and welcomed us home.||A firm mattress and organic cotton sheets in a comfy, albeit small room. No TV's, no gym...you don't need them as entertainment and execise are all around you. The walking and birding are the pleasures here. You can even participate in a yoga session.||Sixteen steps take you to the second floor. A building length hallway that takes you to your room and two communal bathrooms, which are kept spotless. Set your water temperature before you get into the shower. The controls are...sensitive.||The breakfast nook provided eggs, scones, fruit and various quality cereals. The fridge had fresh milk and various milk substitutes..oat milk, soy milk. And a yogurt parfait that is to die for!||The grounds are beautiful and beckon you to explore.||Everywhere you go on the island, you will hear red eyed vireos. I think they should be the island's official bird.||Bottom line spending time on Washington Island is a real treat, The Hotel Washington is a classy place to stay while you're there, Jeanne and her staff will make you think you are welcomed and valued as a customer. It's like coming home. The restaurant serves outstanding food.||We will not wait five years to return again. This will be a yearly trip from now on.

This is a much belated review but didn't want to let it go as we so LOVED our meal here! We visited the Island in July of 2020 so the Hotel wasn't open for guests do to Covid restrictions, but chef Matt and his crew created a delicious dinner for my parents 50th anniversary to feed 18 people as a take out meal. He worked with me weeks in advance to go over options and dietary needs. We had a few gluten-free so he had many yummy options. We landed on many of their delicious salads, so fresh and delicious combinations, loved the gluten free beef dish and many pizzas. The homemade ice creams were delicious! What an amazing place to have such fresh local food. Must visit again!!!!

We absolutely loved our time spent at the hotel, it really has casual elegant summer camp vibes. We stayed 3 nights, had dinner and maybe a little too much wine at the hotel. Food was top notch, everything is extremely fresh and well seasoned. Loved the cheese plate and house made pickled veg. We found Hotel Washington via a Wisconsin Foodie show on PBS featuring the owner, chefs, the history and story of this place. We came here to celebrate a special occasion, and the memories we left with will sustain us for some time! We stayed in the cabin for privacy and extra room, and it was much bigger than it looked in the pictures. In some regards, it was a little like "glamping" in that it is and old place and there are some aspects of that that mean a few cobwebs on the grounds outdoor dining tables; but there were also plush comfy robes, all the things you would need in a kitchenette to cook all your meals if you wanted to, a very comfortable bed, the perfect coffee and bakery in the mornings, and a lunch that was so good I wanted to cry when it was done. The delightful staff felt like FRIENDS when we said good bye. If you love food and having people who love food and the earth and service, you will love this place. If you want an experience of history, and can delight in the fact that that may mean smaller rooms than the Comfort Inn, and a little longer wait than McDonalds, and some rustic amidst being cared about, you will be in for a wonderful experience. We will go back, and can't say enough wonderful things about this place.

The exterior and grounds are lovely. But the rooms are TINY with no room for two suitcases, jackets, etc. The rooms badly need painting. Few pictures on the walls or other niceties. Overall, it just seemed low budget and not as advertised. Perhaps it has gone downhill? The rooms were advertised as having bathrobes, and 8 rooms share 2 bathrooms so robes are needed. We didn't bring robes and there were none in the room. "Hearty Island Breakfasts" were advertised, and all it was was a pastry, coffee and yogurt parfait. There is one hard chair in the room. Because the parlor, etc. is serving as a restaurant, there are no common spaces with comfy couches and chairs. Disappointing and my husband absolutely hated it.||||The staff is not very friendly or helpful and simple things like WiFi password was not given when checking in.

Our stay at the hotel was an absolute delight! ||It is decorated tastefully and our room was beautiful! The bed was very comfortable; we both got a good night's sleep! I normally do not enjoy hotels as much, since they often tend to be so sterile, but the Hotel Washington with its warm country interior design made me feel at home. ||Our freshly prepared breakfast in the morning was delicious: local produce served by the owner Jeannie, who couldn't have been nicer. ||I would love to visit the hotel again - thank you Jeannie and Shanae for your warm and welcoming hospitality!

I spent two wonderful nights at the Hotel Washington while visiting my daughter and husband who live in Wauwatosa. My daughter had stayed there twice before and had raved about this gem of a hotel so I was delighted that our stay was even better then I anticipated. The food was amazing, so much local produce served up with panache and flavour. My favourites were the padron fritters and chicken wings. Breakfast was freshly prepared and I loved the fact that I could help myself to fresh coffee from 7 in the dining room when I woke up.||There are shared bathrooms but this actually worked out fine and I never had to wait long to use the facilities and towels were replenished regularly. The bed was high up but extremely comfortable and I had restful sleep. My daughter and I did yoga in the mornings and this was a wonderful experience, in a studio adjacent to the hotel.||My youngest daughter and I had travelled all the way from England and I can honestly say it was well worth the journey to see this unspoilt part of America.It was like stepping back in time.This hotel is an ideal base for seeing all that Washington Island has to offer, the lavender fields were my idea of heaven. We were made to feel extremely welcome, we sat outside on the beautiful lawns playing games and breathing in serenity. I hope one day to return. Thank you to my daughter and son-in-law for taking us there and thank you Jeannie and staff for the warm welcome and hospitality throughout our stay.

On a whim I decided to visit the island. As it was taking longer than anticipated to get there (there are numerous breweries and wineries along the way), I called to see if they had vacancy. To my delight they did. I was advices up front that this is an old hotel (1904) and that the bathrooms were shared. They also include breakfast. The rate was fair for being in season|||The Hotel|Charming old building with modern upgrades (the men's shower had a steam option). The king room I got was lake facing, but you can't really see the lake. Still, it's a very nice view of the front yard and lake. The king bed was very comfortable ||Supper|The menu changes, but the food was awesome. Only complaint was the waitress was a little off on checking on drinks and dessert, but we are on island time. The baby grilled eggplant was a great start. The grilled whitefish over the spelt berries was amazing. The wines were a perfect compliment to the food. Although not normally a dessert person, the green coriander semi freddo was amazing. Especially with a Port. ||Breakfast||Coffee (very good coffee) is available at 7 am, and breakfast service begins at 8 am. Breakfast opened with yogurt(which is made on site) over granola and topped with blueberries. The quiche had young sweet corn in it, which brought natural sweetness. It was accompanied by a salad and roasted potatoes.

This place spoke to my soul. If you are looking for a hotel that has a gym, large TVs, a pool, or a barren place surrounded by concrete, you will not like this hotel. Our room (the Baltimore) was small but tidy and extremely comfortable. Organic cotton sheets and a fine mattress. I had a wonderful night's sleep. The next morning we were treated to a simple, yet elegant and delicious breakfast. I'm usually not a fan of breakfast, but I ate every morsel of this one. When you stay at the Hotel Washington you are made to feel as if you are staying at a good friend's house. Except for the fast WiFi, this place will take you back to the time when personal service was the norm and not the exception. All the guests were introduced to the breakfast chef, who also grows all the fresh produce served there. Yeah, you have to share a bathroom with other guests; but the bathrooms were spotless and the showers are really nice. There was never a conflict with other guests about bathroom use. We ended up conversing with all of the other guests. The Hotel Washington is the kind of place that encourages folks to open up to each other. Short walk to a bench overlooking the water and to birding trails. There is also a yoga center on the grounds. Outstanding and friendly staff make your stay a real pleasure. We love visiting Washington Island, this is where we will always stay on future trips there.

Payment ||The hotel manager required us to pay only by cash or check. ||As foreigners, we cannot pay by check and having more than 400$ in cash with you is not pleasant and convenient. ||Moreover, very surprisingly, the restaurant of the hotel accepted credit card payments … ||Why then make hotel guests pay only in cash? Sounds dishonest … ||||Hotel staff ||Jeannie, the owner, is a very kind and welcoming person. ||Nonetheless, Shanae and her male colleague were barely kind to us. Shanae refused to lend us a knife to cut our own food in our room… no comment. And when we checked out, Shanae wasn't smiling and didn't even say thank you.||||Breakfast ||The products are of good quality (local eggs, fruits and yogurt) but in small quantities. Only one choice of dish was available.||||Rooms & amenities ||When you call your place “Hotel Washington”, the least you can do is make the beds every day. ||The bathrooms were also not cleaned daily (a hair in the shower hadn't moved a bit for 2 days). ||To make sure I didn't miss this information, I asked for the hotel policy (I didn’t find it on their website) at the front desk and I was told in an unpleasant way that I would be given it later… ||||Conclusion ||It's not a hotel, it’s a guest house. ||Too expensive for the proposed level of quality.

My husband and I had never been to Door County and we wanted to try something new. We had also never stayed in a bed and breakfast and thought, if anyone was going to do a B&B right, it would be Door County. After looking around online, I found Hotel Washington and fell in love with the pictures. It looked, to me, the way a B&B should look. When I found that the price per night was at least half the cost of the other resorts I was looking at, I picked up the phone and made our reservation right then. When we arrived, the place was even better than the photos. We loved every second of our stay. The beds were comfortable, breakfast was wonderful, the dinner menu is nothing short of pure excellence, the wait staff was knowledgeable in every aspect of the food and drink provided, and the owner and other staff made us feel right at home. The restrooms are shared; however, do not let this deter you. They are clean, well stocked, lovely, and we never had to wait to shower or use the facilities (and all the rooms were booked mind you). Staying at this perfect B&B connected us to guests in a fashion we have never experienced before. Our second night there, we used the outdoor fire pit and socialized with 6 other guests well into the evening. At breakfast we connected with a lady who shares my occupation and will be visiting my small business later this month to further network. We also made new friends that we spent one rainy evening playing Gin Rummy well into the wee hours of the morning, and at breakfast exchanged contact information and offers to visit one another. We will be back to Door County and the only place we will stay is Hotel Washington. They truly made our trip exceptional.

The staff are absolutely fabulous. Remembered my name right away. Exceptionally helpful and courteous. The food is delicious. Beds are comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here.
