Perfect supper club with German favorites. Prime rib is superb. Great friendly service. Enjoy a special coffee service after dinner. Julius Meinl coffee served on a silver tray with accoutrements and a cookie. SUPERB!

Nice place, very authentic. I made reservations for dinner with my uncle who has special needs and our table was right near the kitchen which made very difficult for him to hear. The food was great and the folks that took care of us were very nice and helpful.

Food was excellent. Had the cordon Bleu schnitzel. Service was great as well. She found us a great bottle of wine which matched what we were looking for. Prices are reasonable atmoshere is authentic. This was our 4th dinner there. Each time was equally a great experience. If your looking for authentic German cuisine, Gerhardts fits the bill!

The scallops were large, perfectly cooked and the best I've ever had!
Baked French onion soup was outstanding! Salmon was prepared as requested. Sides were pickled red beets (like my mom used to make) and spaetzel. Homemade rolls and paté, and muffins. We enjoyed our personalized service. Our server was fun and helpful. This will be our "go to place" for future celebrations! Fun German atmosphere!

The quality of the food and the service was amazing! I was treat like family, and when I left my card I went to pick it up and the lady walked out to the car to give it back to me, will definitely go there again! (P.s. my name is Izzy T Official if you would like to keep in touch!)

From Kenosha, and having led American military tourists through England, France, and Germany while living in Sicily, I found the German fare to be very disappointing. My relatives all recommended the Prime Rib, which is not German fare. My invited dinner guests had steaks and they had no complaints. I had Schnitzel and I was shocked to learn all their Schnitzel was TURKEY. In German, Schnitzel means "pig," I double checked this with friends in Berlin. At $30+ for breaded turkey, I expected something exceptional and boy was I disappointed.
Service was average, not at all what you expect for over $50 pp.
I won't even add the comments from the Mrs.

Updated Review - 8/23/25: WOW!!! What a disappointment! I have been to House of Gerhard more than 25 times over the past 20 years or so. My experience this time was terrible! The tables were so smashed together and there were so many people talking… you could not talk to the person next to you… let alone hear the waitress. I used the Noise app on my Apple Watch… it registered 84 dB. The next day I went to the Milwaukee 250 Indy car race and the Noise app registered 86 dB. (I attached a pic). The food was expensive for what you got. I ordered the Oskar Schnitzel. I could barely find any crab. The asparagus spear was like eating string. It was inedible. I couldn’t swallow it.
But it gets worse! I ran out of iced tea. We could see our waitress, so I asked the waitress (who looked like she might have been a busser) if I could get some more iced tea. Her exact words were, “no, I am not your waitress!” and turned around. She could have said, “let me find your waitress”… or “sure, your waitress must be busy”. TERRIBLE customer service!
The good news is, our server was really good.
But my wife and I… and the people we were eating with decided we will most likely never come back.

Updated Review - 10/23/24: Every time I eat at House of Gerhard, I am amazed at how incredibly delicious everything is! Once again, I had the Wednesday Special… Split Pea Soup… and the Bavarian Pot Roast with red cabbage and spaetzle. The service was friendly, fast, and super helpful. Everything was perfect! I would highly recommend eating here! You will NOT be disappointed.

Original Review: One of my favorite places to eat in Kenosha. The service is always incredible. Super friendly, helpful, and fast. Our waitress was great! The food at House of Gerhard is delicious every single time I go there. There is no way you can complain about not getting enough food. The salads, the soups, bread…. everything is delicious! I had the Bavarian Pot Roast with red cabbage and mashed potatoes and gravy. The pot roast was so tender, I didn’t even need a knife to cut it. I love going to the House of Gerhard. I can’t wait to back again.

The food is great. I really enjoyed the appetizers. I'd say don't go on a busy day but I don't know what day that would be for them. I booked a reservation for 5 on a Monday evening at 6p.m. and it was packed. I appreciated that they accomodated our extra guest. The seating is quite cramped the way the tables are shaped and placed. There was an extremely large group that came in so we waited a rather long time for our drinks. It was extremely loud and overstimulating. So, I do not recommend to those that are overwhelmed easily. Over all, we enjoyed our first experience as it was new. I can't say we would return unless to eat outside at their patio.

The owner and hostesses were kind and attentive. Our server was not. We brought our 3 year old twin grandchildren who the owner and hostesses agreed were well behaved. They even brought a treasure box for the children to select a treat from. This was the only kind thing that happened. Our server constantly went by our table without stopping. We had to ask the owner to get our drink. It was fantastic. The hostesses gave us water and butter. The salad with bacon dressing was good. The rolls, garlic crisps and pate were fabulous. The carrots were tasty. The tenderloin was okay. The portion was huge. Some of the food was not good. The kidney bean salad had inedible celery in it, and was really runny. The speatzle was tasteless.

Overall great dinner experience with friends. Between the four we got the sausage sampler for appitizer. For mains we got the german platter ( sampler of the beef roulade, smoked pork chop, and one of the sausages), beef stroggenoff, roasted duck, and saurbraten with everyone trying a bit of everything.
All the food was delicious with generous portion to price ratio. The Saurbraten was the table favorite followed by a close tie between the stroggenoff and duck and the german platter bringing up the rear only due to something having to come up last.
This was our first time here so don't know of this is the norm but when the dining room was full it was quite loud and over all this was a very long meal lasting about 2 to 2.5 hrs with decent lapses between orders taken and food arriving. This wasn't a hardship for us but might not be everyone's cup of tea
However service was typically promp and attentive onence orders were taken and again food was delicious and portions generous. To give you an example 1 appitizer, 4 alcoholic beverages 2 non alcoholic and 4 entrees and the bill came to just over 50 per person before tip. Ive spent more for less. We will certainly come back.

We have been there many times & always excellent.
Don’t know if they have a new cook now or what but we’re quite disappointed this time.
The Hungarian goulash wasn’t Hungarian & didn’t taste like the other times.
The schnitzel offered was only turkey & was dry. The breading was not good. Hard in places so couldn’t eat it.
German hard rolls were excellent as were the carrots & potato pancakes.

Do not buy a gift certificate from House of Gerhard. Such a gift was graciously given to me. Previously I have been to Gerhard's and am not a fan of their food. I asked management if I could cash the $200 certificate in as it was not going to be used. I was tersely informed that it can only be honored for food. You are better off giving a pre-paid gift card that can be used anywhere, or if you must, to a restaurant with a more universally-accepted menu.

I have eaten at this restaurant 3-4 times. Was good but heavy meals so not my go to place. I don’t know what happened but the food quality was not edible. My husbands sausage was not cooked and he was up all night in the bathroom. He said we are never going back. My meal…I like schnitzel but instead of chicken they had turkey. Texturely something was off. First it wasn’t crisp enough so there was this gummy wet flour taste between the coating and the meat. Every bite I wanted to gag. It was horrible. Needless to say I managed a few bites but just couldn’t get past the taste. And I just love this, restaurants should teach their staff etiquette. We are midway in our meal. I’m chewing my gross food and have a bite on my fork when the waitress walks up and says “You need a box for that” This has happened so many times and now I’m no longer polite in saying ’maybe, if I don’t finish I’ll need one but let a person finish their meal first’ 😠 Big pet peeve of mine. Let the customer ask if they want to take home their leftovers! Not in mid chewing of their meal! All in all you have been warned. If you expect some quality in your $70.00 meal DON’T EAT HERE! note: they could use an upgrade in their 1970’s decor that was tacky and looked like grandmas house from 1975! Very disappointed that I wasted that much money on food I wouldn’t feed my pigs!

If not for the thermometer Chef‼️
It would have been 10/10.
300.00 for 3 people.
The restaurant is beautiful.
And the menu is simple.
Excellent whiskey selection.
But I ordered a 14oz medium steak that came out purple, and was sent back to me purple. 🤷♂️
Learn your equipment.....
But still recommend this highly.

We recently had a wedding luncheon for my son and new bride at House of Gehard This was a small wedding, immediate family and very close friends (25 in all).
I have nothing but 5 star praise for House of Gehard. The service was first class and the food was great. All in all a wonderful experience for the new groom and bride and the guests. We have eaten there a number of time in the past over the years, but I was so happy we used them for the wedding lunch.

A once great place having fallen. Another bad experience with service. Our last time we had an hour wait for a lunch sandwhich with no visit from our waitress during that time. This type of experience with poor is consistent with the last several times we've been to Gerhardts. We've come here for more than 40 years but this may our last time due to the recent fall off in quality and service.

If you're in Kenosha and hungry, House of Gerhard is where you need to be. The service is top-tier fast and friendly, and they keep the beer coming without you even having to ask.
Now, let’s talk food. The Sauerbraten? Absolute perfection; tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The brats and wurst were spot on, with plenty of sauerkraut on the side.
The Hofbrau was cold, crisp, and hit the spot, and their bar’s got some awesome beer steins that give the place some real character.
Pro tip: Make a reservation. This place gets packed, and for good reason. Great food, great service, and a laid-back vibe. I’ll definitely be back, Prost 🍺😎

The staff is very friendly and appropriately attentive. (Shout out to Jennifer)
The entrées (schnitzel and goulash) were very good, though not outstanding. Complementary appetizers were a nice touch.
Just one warning. On the day my wife and I visited, schnitzel showed at $21.95 at Gerhard's website. On the menu

The service, food, & ambiance were perfect as usual. Err on the side of caution and call to make reservations! They are 99% very busy. Amanda was such an awesome server. Our Chocolate Martinis were spot on. The Beef Stroganoff with Spätzle was so delicious & rich and the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel was tender, flavorful, and comforting. I recommend only eating one-third or half of your main meal and pack the rest up to-go for a meal tomorrow because you should save room for desert! Their Black Forest Cake was a treat. Everything or just about everything is homemade too. Our hostess was apologetic about their parking situation, but she gave us helpful info. Please be patient, you won't be disappointed with your meal & experience. There is parking at the bank lot when it's closed, but you should be able to find street parking easier. Do not park across the street from HoG in that larger commercial lot. That lot tows with a $300 fine. The restaurant has such a friendly environment. It feels like you're surrounded by dear friends & family.

We were so delighted to come across this gem of a German Restaurant. The food is just as good as my Mom's cooking. The beef rouladen and hungarian goulash melted in your mouth. The , reuben sandwich and the schnitzel sandwiches were very good. Next time when I come, I am going to have the sauerbraten. The waitstaff were very welcoming and dressed in beautiful traditional German dirndl attire. The atmosphere reminded me of the real deal that you would find in Germany.

My fiancé and I had the best dinner last night!!! We ordered the Parmesan Crusted Salmon and the King Cut Prime Rib, shared them and still took some home! Of course I had an Old Fashioned! Everything was Chef's Kiss!!! 💋 I mean...melt in your mouth! Beth, our server, was very attentive and even offered to take our picture. Angie checked in on us too. My family has been going to Gerhard's for years and it has always been a great experience from the delicious food to the warm hospitality. We had a fabulous dinner last evening. Kyle and Sabina as always are wonderful. The staff was working so hard. The place was buzzing with conversation and laughter. Our server was delightful. Very happy and attentive. The bus kids were working just as hard, cleaning & resetting tables, filling water glasses all while helping wherever needed. One busser in particular stood out. I believe her name is Vari. Her uniform was ironed to perfection. Hair and makeup also perfect. She smiled as she zoomed throughout the dining area. Anyone could see that she took great pride in her role. What stood out was her uniform. It had crisp clean iron lines. Her buttons all lined perfectly in a straight line. I had to stop her and tell her how amazing she looks. For me, I just don’t see that much attention to detail much in the service industry anymore. Kids I don’t think even know what an iron or how to use one. This young lady has it going on. Dressing for success, this young lady’s got it.
So if you choose to dine here, look for her & notice how much pride she takes in her job. Our experience was wonderful.

If you're considering The House of Gerhard based on its reputation as the "best" German restaurant in town, don't be fooled. It's only the best because it’s the only German restaurant here—and that’s not saying much.
Five of us were severely disappointed. Multiple people ordered the Schnitzel, one of their so-called specialties. The breading was as hard as cement, and the meat was so dry and tough it was nearly impossible to cut, let alone chew. It’s clear that meat wasn’t freshly prepared, and if it was "fried in butter," it must’ve been during a previous lifetime because none of us could tell. One person ordered the White Fish - It was overcooked, flavorless, dry, and very disappointing.
At $30 a plate, you’d expect quality, or at least food you can chew. Instead, we got overpriced, inedible meals. Drinks, thankfully, were great (props to the bartender 😉), but the service was just average.
Bottom Line: Don’t believe the hype. If you're after a good meal, you’ll want to look elsewhere. The prices here are high, and the food quality is LOW. The only reason I gave this place 1 ⭐️, is because 0 isn’t an option.

Horrible Horrible service! This was our first time eating here and I've heard amazing things. Well, it was nothing I expected. The restaurant was extremely loud. It was just the two of us sitting across from each other and we couldn't hear each other enough to carry on a conversation. The waitress, Linda, was very short with us and we felt like we inconvenienced her by being there. She never came and asked how our food was or if we needed refills on our drinks. But she did stop by our neighbors table and refilled there wine glasses multiple times. She eventually did come by to refill our water glasses and take away our plates before we were done eating. Linda did ask if we were celebrating anything special and if we needed anything else at the end of the night. I simply said no, just want the check.
This is a local favorite by many including my mom. But unfortunately, I'd have to disagree. I will not recommend them and will not return to give them a second chance.

I finally had my taste of Gerhard’s, wanting to come here for years. What a great experience! Kyle, grandson of Mr. Gerard, treated us like royalty. The cocktails were great, the food was outstanding, and the aperitif, an amazing grasshopper was off-the-chain. I recommend the House of Gerhard’s to everyone! Tolles Essen, Komma, noch besserer Service, Punkt!

Live down the street from the restaurant for 20 plus years and never visited. My hubby and I decided to give it a try. Was kindly greeted when arrived, and sat promptly without reservationsat 8pm on a Saturday. Ordered drinks and they were well-made. I had a soup and my husband ordered a salad. These came with our dinner. You are also served bread, liver pate, 3 bean salad and bread crisps as a pre-dinner compliment. I ordered the panko walleye and my husband ordered the chicken oscar. My walleye looked beautiful until I tried to cut it with my fork, which you should be able to do with fish. I took the first bite, and it was extremely hard and fishy tasting. I turned it over and it was burned on the underside which is why it was so difficult to chew and had a bitter taste. Unfortunately, my husbands chicken oscar was the same. The underside of the chicken was overcooked and too tough to use the knife provided to cut pieces off. We let our waitress, Lulu, know our dinners were inedible and flipped our chicken and fish to show her the obvious issues. No apology. Just,,,what do you want? More food or to take it off? As you know, at a supper club, by the time you get your meal, you have been there an hour or more. We just wanted the meals taken off the bill, one bite taken each. We were charged for the included soup, house salad, 3 bean salad (never touched), liver pate (never touched), bread and bread crisps. I have worked in the service industry for 20 plus years. Now a health professional for 30 years. I would not only be apologetic and embarassed to see burned food on my customers table in this type of establishment, but I would NEVER charge them $50 for 2 drinks, and accompanyments. This was not handled in a manner that would encourage us to visit again. Very unfortunate.

Soooooo good!!! We went in completely at random. Had been shopping and decided we wanted something more than burgers for dinner. I was NOT dressed for the occasion, in my Star Wars t-shirt for May 4th, and they welcomed us no problem.
My SO got the charred prime rib and a brandy old fashioned. I got the cordon bleu schnitzel with spaetzel with gravy and the stormy night martini. EVERYTHING was so flippin delicious!! Best old fashioned I've ever tasted by far. My martini was the perfect combo of sweet and sour and super flavorful. The prime rib was GINORMOUS and melted in your mouth. And my schnitzel was so unique and so absolutely delicious.
Plus our waitress and the host were amazing. So very welcoming, sweet and attentive. Even other staff stopped by occasionally and continued to fill up our water glasses without having to ask.
Two thumbs up without hesitation!

Maybe the best German dining experience you can possibly have. I recently attempted to challenge House of Gerhard by going to another German place named maders in Milwaukee that gets great reviews and was really shocked at how much more I love house of Gerhard over it. I recommend this place very highly.

Jennifer was an excellent server. The restaurant is like no other German restaurant in Wisconsin. Great food, great decor and very traditional German food. We will be back again to enjoy the food! Thank you House of Gerard! We really enjoyed ourselves.

We’ve been ordering the traditional corned beef and cabbage meal for years from here to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This year my wife called on Friday, March 15th, 2024, to place the order for Saturday night. She was told that there was no need to place the order now, and to just call back the next day anytime after noon. So on Saturday, my wife calls and the woman answering the phone rudely says they’re not taking take-out orders. My wife lets her know that she called and spoke to someone the day before, and if she could please go ask someone. The woman comes back on the phone (even more agitated than before) and says “fine, we can take your order but we can’t do it for 5:00 pm, you’ll have to pick it up at 4:00 pm because we’re going to be too busy with the diner”. My wife calls me and I let her know that I’m not able to get out of work before 5. I told her to call Mason’s instead. Mason’s did a great job. Friendly staff, prompt service, and the cost was so much less! The food was excellent - actually better than Gerhard’s. So THANK YOU Mason’s! As far as Gerhard’s - we’ll never be back. Totally overrated. I’ve never written a bad review but you can see why I did, and I’ll be sure to share our experience with others too.

Busy night, and I decided to try something considered traditional. The meal wasn't BAD, but it was average. A smoked pork chop with no seasoning. A sausage and some sauerkraut, which was ok and some kind of rolled up beef with onions and peppers and a gravy. My wife's fried walleye fish was ok also. My salad with bleu cheese was phenomenal! The starters that are included were good as well. The drinks were good. We've decided to come back and try the prime rib on our next visit. Our waitress was good, but the waitress at nearby tables was a bit over the top for me to be honest. Loud and a bit much. Again, our waitress was good. One so-so visit doesn't tell the story, so we'll be back.

First time at this place. I took my girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day. It took forever for the food. Luckily we had a good conversation going. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu. It was dry, chewy and had no flavor. It sucked. Well, this is the last time I’m coming here. I had to apologize to my girlfriend. I was so embarrassed.

Had a dinner reservation for tonight at 8:00 for my husband and I but had to cancel it, I tried to make a reservation for tomorrow and they are closed for a private party, no problem, what do you have for next Wednesday, the woman on the phone said to call back and hung up! Guess what, I will not be calling back!

Such a great place to eat. The prime rib is very good! You'll get your bang for the buck in there. Liver patte is excellent, the sauerkraut salad has the sweet and sour flavor. Go for the German beer. Nothing else. Light or stout!

This is a "throwback" place, and in the very best sense.
From the moment you walk in until the time you put on your coat to leave, you are treated in a warm and friendly way.
Even though this is a restaurant featuring German food, there are enough other options that it's really more of a supper club.
Recommend the house mustard dressing on the salads. French onion soup is wonderful. Their schnitzels are terrific. I always end up with the German platter, because everything is so consistently good. The "lazy susan"-starters (chopped liver, bean salad, bread and rolls) is so much appreciated.
Exceptional tuxedo cake for dessert and a great brandy Old Fashioned sweet made it that much better.
I'm KICKING myself that I can't remember the name of our server, because she was a total pro. Friendly without being obtrusive, and perfect timing with every course. She is a real asset to this wonderful place.
We were there to celebrate the birth of our first grandchild that day, so maybe our server will remember us!

Wonderful evening! Loved the food & the service was very good.
The only complaint I have was when I called to make reservations. Whoever answered was very rude .
Whoever it was should quit her job because she definitely isn't a people person. 🙄

It has been 45 years since I was last in this restaurant. The place seems exactly the same. Quaint atmosphere, awesome service and excellent food. I had prime rib and my wife had roast duck with orange sauce. Both were delicious. It was like going back in time for me. The only thing missing was Gerhard himself sitting by the bar greeting me with "You Shtoop" when I walked through the door.

Five of us had dinner, appetizers, and drinks. Everyone was very happy with everything. Prime rib, schweinshaxe, crusted chicken, sausage assortment... All was outstanding! Appetizers were also good. Came with rolls, coleslaw, and chocolate chip mini muffins.
One of us is very fussy about potato pancakes. It speaks to their quality that they ordered some to go in addition to the ones they ate at dinner.
Last but not least, our server Jennifer was also really good. She was there when we needed something (I think she reads minds) but not obtrusive in any way. It's not too often I encounter such great service.
