My mother-in-law, son and I were having lunch at Howie’s today (09/09/2025). We have been coming to Howie’s for years. So we are regular customers and come in every Tuesday. I ordered the chicken tender meal with coleslaw, instead of fries; with honey mustard on the side. The server brings my food out. It had fries when I didn’t want that; along with regular mustard, instead of the honey mustard. Before I ate, I asked if my son wanted one of the tenders. About 20 minutes of eating, my son comes across one of the tenders that he couldn’t even bite into. We tell the server, and he told the manager (Blake). Blake comes lashing out at us stating, “I am NOT giving you a new tender!! Every time you guys come in, you always have this issue!!” Blake then stated, “If you don’t like it, then DON’T come here anymore!!” Blake was then clearing our table and not asking if we were finished with anything. So he was taking away the mini corn dogs that were not finished. My mother-in-law asked for the manager’s number. Blake brought the number and told her that he called and said to expect a call. After the incident, Blake was no more to be seen. He is a coward, disrespectful and DOES NOT deserve to be a manager!!

Stopped by Howies for lunch after my son had hand surgery today. Mercedes was our server. Service was great, the food was great and what most impressed me, and I have been there before, was that Logan the bar manager came over to each table in the bar and asked how everything was. Now it was not that busy but that really was a nice gesture on the establishment. Kudos to Logan and Mercedes. You were appreciated today!!! Thank you.

3-19-25 Arrived and was greeted quickly and drinks were poured. After about 15 mins the bartender, waitstaff, management literally disappeared. There was NOBODY around or out front. this was right around 125PM. A patron literally had to go get somebody to help patrons. There were at least 7 people that came in and were waiting at tables and the bar. This is 100% unacceptable. if your going to have a TEAM meeting, you still have to wait on the patrons arriving. It was very hard for me to watch as I'm a business owner myself. Look at your cameras and you'll see for yourself. That bar and dining area was left unattended for too long. great training opportunity

Was in town for a doctors appointment and decided to take a friend out to lunch. We should have turned around and left right away. For a Thursday at 1:30 it was very loud and we couldn't here each other talk. With the speakers blaring right over your head. I ordered the Ultimate BLT much to my disappointment. Hard to believe you can screw this up. So saturated in mayonnaise I never tasted the tomato or the bacon. The french fries are so salty I was gulping water like I hiked in from the desert. We had their bloody bar and breakfast. I would say this is underrated. I had the breakfast tacos. Overall very good, great potatoes. I would have the white sauce on the side next time and add salsa. My son had a skillet which he enjoyed. My wife had the cheese curds for breakfast, yup, she did. She didn't like the curds. But, overall I am a fan of this place. I have breakfast here almost every Sunday, I love coming in for the two for one burgers, and I really like their wings. They have decent prices for alot of food. They also have a good beer selection and a decent whiskey selection. It can get very loud when busy, especially during a sporting event. A few times when I have had an issue, like with my egg on my HHH being overcooked they took care of it quite fast, their customer service has always been excellent.

This is where I have celebrated mine, my wife's, and most of all three of my kids birthdays for the last 5+ years including bringing our own cake.

During COVID I ate my breakfast skillet in their parking lot, at Riverside, and at Myrick Park because just like everywhere else was takeout only and I still wanted to support a business that I loved.

Dave, Blake, Logan and everyone else have always treated me great. There is nowhere I would rather go for food than Howie's on La Crosse. Although I do miss when they had chili and cheesecake.

Walked in, advised to sit anywhere. I go to sit at the low top table… was told they want to keep it open for handicapped and disabled folks and to not sit there by the host… I figured someone called ahead or something and they were reserving the table for someone in a wheelchair, etc. We go and sit at a high top. Few minutes later, two young guys in their twenties go and sit at the low top and not a word from the same host. Glad they got to be comfortable while they ordered lunch.

Get more low tops then or tell hosts to seat people instead of just “pick a seat” because being told I can’t sit where I’ll be comfortable just to see someone else more able bodied than me seated there pissed me off royally.

Our waitress was great and the food was great though. The waiter/host left me angry the entire time.

Usually I love Howies since the food is super good and the service is fast. However tonight really changed my opinion. Our waitress said that the kitchen was a little backed up so it might take a little bit longer. We were fine with that but it took 1.5 hour for us to get our burgers. When we got them, both of our patties were burnt and charred and they tasted super dry and bad. My onion rings seemed old. We wanted to ask for a new order but the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes and we didn’t want to wait even longer for our food. I was super disappointed with the quality of food, service and lack of communication. It’s gonna be a while before I go back there.

While we have enjoyed a few meals here, (we have a daughter at Viterbo), we’ve had great food 90% of the time! We love the cool atmosphere of the vintage beer memorabilia. I give the food a 4* because while everything from salads, wraps and burgers are excellent, we tried the fish fry not once but twice, & the fried fish was way too greasy. To the point we’re picking the batter off to eat only the fish. This last visit we made, the kitchen ran out of mashed potatoes & it was only 7pm. Kind of unexpected.
Service has always been great and the food and drink selection is great as well. I won’t stop going, we just won’t order the fried fish anymore.

This is a great bar! We sat outside on the patio because they are dog friendly. The fried pickles are nicely battered and well seasoned, with a homemade ranch that is delicious. The Howie's Cheesesteak was also very good and my wife really enjoyed her chicken wrap on a homemade tortilla. Our server Janessa was so kind and thoughtful to our dog. I've been to Howie's once previously and it was good. We came in on Monday and my experience was perfect. We were immediately greeted by the host and the bartender. We decided to eat at the bar. My beer was nice and cold and my girlfriend's mule was very good. We both got the jerry burger (it was bogo, very good suprise we had no idea). Burger tasted amazing, and the cheese was melted perfectly. The fries were seasoned perfectly, not like most places where it is all seasoning. Howie's does it right!!!

We were told a 30 minute wait on a busy Saturday night, but after 60 minutes and several groups that came in after getting seated before ours, I inquired as to why. I was last in Howie's sometime in the early 80's when my big brother was a UWL student. . As a matter of nostalgia I went there with him when he visited. Absolutely nothing wrong with the experience. It does seem clean and well-kept. That said, it was absolutely depressing to sit in a generic B-dubs knockoff with a plug-n-play menu. I've seen all I need to -- just another soulless sports bar. I'm glad to have the memory of what once was.

2nd visit... pretty good wings on Wed half price special. However adequate, service at the bar left something to be desired.
