Hubbard Ave. Diner is as Americana as you can get. The food is all made daily on site. They’re known for all their pies. Thru offer different varieties dept ding in the season.

All the food was good and service was nice. They offer meatloaf, burgers and fish fry Fridays typical to diners along with a decent menu. The popover rolls were served warm with butter!

I liked that they chilled the salad plate and greens were nice and crisp. The turkey dinner was good and wholesome with a really good cranberry relish. The broasted 1/2 chicken was good too. We split a slice of caramel apple pie and I can say I loved it as the crust was really flaky!

Discovered this lovely diner 6 years ago, and I knew it was going to be a great place when I saw the Action Comics poster on the wall! Now we go out of our way to add it to our trips! The food is always fantastic and we'll prepared, and the staff is always the friendliest! Love the 'pi' puns

Food was good service was very good and fast and the atmosphere was diner like. If I'm in that area again I would go back without a doubt. Had a burger with barbecue b q sauce on it and fries. The burger was not very thick but with the fries I could not finish it all. Not listed below.

I've always had a great experience here. The prices are good for the amount of food you get and i've never been disappointed with a dish. Wait times have never been too bad during peak times. Make sure to try their pies and milkshakes or get some to take home.

Large portions- should have shared an entree as we were traveling through and thus not inclined to take leftovers with us. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. It was good but could have used more seasonings… rather bland- I added salt. Had the strawberry rhubarb pie ala mode for dessert- more rhubarb than strawberries but it was good. Service was good. Facility clean- a bit noisy but that’s the diner vibe. Lots of free parking.

I've been here many times, and I love it. The food is always good, the vibe is solidly in the happy (but not toxic/demanding) zone, and the service is always upbeat and professional. FIVE STARS, always.
But, my friends, I am here to tell you the Hubbard Avenue Diner is the place to go if you enjoy rich carrot cake with generously creamy frosting. Are the portions on a grand scale? Yes, they are. Unapologetically so. Is there enough frosting to cause a parent to chide a child? YES. Have I been gifted a cake for a birthday and eaten it (from frozen) for months afterward? YES AND WILL DO AGAIN.
Enjoy.

We like to come here a lot but recently we had a waitress with a very long nails and unfortunately her nails were in our plates while serving. We didn’t eat that part it was that much obvious. Regardless of how long their nails are I wouldn’t want anyone’s fingers in my food but with that long nails it was even more concerning. I would like to continue to go there but if next time I will have a waitress with similar thing I will ask to change my table to not get my food served like that

We were left waiting outside for 20 minutes without being acknowledged by staff. As soon as we left someone came to clear the table. Not sure if it was because we had a toddler? She was doing fine. Maybe we were underdressed? Not a good experience for our second visit. Service wasn’t great the first time, but we wanted to give a second chance. I don’t do reviews because I understand things happen, it this was just not ok.

We ordered from the lunch, breakfast and dessert menu. My son said the hashbrowns were good but the Popeyes omelette had an odd combination of flavors, I was told the ribs were dry, the salmon was decent just a bit on the dry side. The rhubarb pie had a good filling I’m just not a fan of crumble crust. The grasshopper Sunday would have been good if the ice cream would have not melted bf it got to us and was given to us as a soup. I know they were busy that day but was surprised they didn’t try to fix it. I wouldn’t object to going again if someone really wanted to but I just wouldn’t make plans to go again.

Ordered the cheapest breakfast item: 2 eggs over easy, hash browns, biscuit: $9.29 + tax
Added cheese and onions to the hash browns: $2
Waited 20 min…it was busy: lunchtime. No big deal. (other orders were a house salad, cup of soup, side of bacon — stuff that’s just sitting there around the kitchen, no cooking required)
Food was delivered; my eggs were over hard, and they forgot the onions in the hash browns
Another 20 min later, a corrected order was set down for me…they sprinkled a few diced onions on top of hash browns on which they had melted some cheese. Not really corrected, just sad. Hubbard’s quality has declined, and their prices are double what they used to be when they served good food consistently
Thanks but no thanks
You messed up the most basic food for us
There are plenty of other options
We used to love the Hubbard

Hubbard is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Madison area. The soups and entrees are excellent, and the desserts are beyond fabulous. We were meeting with our two sons, our dil and grands, so I may be extending that joy over to my impression of the restaurant. That being said, my wife wasn't thrilled with her avocado eggs Benedict. The eggs were a little overcooked and were served with tomato slices (which changed the taste), and there wasn't enough Hollandaise sauce. My son's and my omelets were both made with Egg Beaters mix cooked solid before adding the filling. We loved our strawberry rhubarb pie, and the service was excellent! Sorry, but no photos (unless you want to see pix of the grands 🥰).

I like the diner atmosphere of this place. Breakfast options are creative. And of course I always have to save room for pie.

The Mustard Museum next door suggested we come here for lunch and not to miss their pie. Since we can never manage to eat dessert after a meal, we just skipped the main meal part and ordered pie and shakes. It took me back to my childhood! What a neat place! Pathetic. We've been eating at and ordering takeout/delivery from Hubbard Ave Diner for years, have spent thousands of dollars here and in the past always felt like it was worth it. Over the last several months it has now just become sad. Pic is from the order we had delivered tonight. Guess they didn't feel the need to provide us with the bread product that makes a burger a hamburger, would have been super nice if they had though. Don't feel like I need to explain the salad (please just refer back to the word at the beginning of this post). I also feel really uncomfortable with their decision not to use any type of covering whatsoever on the coleslaw cups we received because the takeout containers are rather gappy and you know it's summer and there's bugs and all, so that was also an unpleasant surprise to see upon opening our boxes this evening. Oh, they also gave us the wrong dressing...they did, however, include two cups of dressing as we had requested; but, it is one we find gross and it will not be eaten, so Hubbard Ave just created more paper and plastic waste for the planet all for nothing. I'm so tired of all of Madison's restaurants sucking so bad that I don't have the energy to write these reviews in an eloquent manner anymore but summing it up for this place, sometimes you'll get good food from here that was worth the money, sometimes you'll get food from here that appears to have been thrown around or made by preschoolers and very well not worth the money you paid for it. Hubbard Ave Diner used to be one of our very favorite restaurants but unfortunately not anymore.

This place was mediocre. The retro diner theme was fun, but overall the food is average. Staff was just ok, not rude but not really friendly. One guy delivering food to tables could have been dressed a little better. Seeing his sweat pants sag down to where you could see the top of his butt and shirt was a tad too small, was not ok while being served. We stopped here while traveling through on a Friday night. I would not come back. The area this restaurant is in is beautiful and would come back to see this area again. We could have just gone on an off day. Idk. Check it out for yourself if the menu sounds good to you.

Pretty decent food, especially for the price. The waffle fries are out of this world! The Reuben sandwich was decent, although for my taste sliced a little too thick. Not a lot of seasoning going on here. In fact, it was definitively lacking across the board to an off-putting degree. It made me feel like the target audience is the retired and diabetic.

The menu is on the slightly smaller side for a diner, which would generally mean they concentrate on their strengths. Unfortunately, this only translated to more of a let down as well.

The waitress was the most redeeming factor, and she made the meal more enjoyable as much as was possible.

They have great food here. Our favorite hands down are the pie shakes. You pick your flavor of pie to go in the shake. The shake is very large so you can definitely choose to split or keep it to yourself. Very creamy with amazing flavor and the crunch from the crust adds to it.

They also have really good options across the menu. Our personal favorites are the breakfast/brunch plates. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

Our server, Jessica, was friendly, but a little difficult to get her attention.
We came for pie a second time. Got the duo silk pie and strawberry rhubarb pie. The silk pie was great. The rhubarb pie didn't have any strawberry flavor, but was still plenty tasty.

We have been eating here for years, because the atmosphere, staff and food is very good. Still great, however, the pies. Usually order fruit pies, but last 2 times, the fruit seems to be missing and replaced by gel like material that is the consistency of silly putty. Peach/blackberry tasted like nothing, but had qualities of a decent patching material. Done ordering fruit pies, but will try a cream pie next time, because I believe in their pie skills.

While the juevos ranchers were good, the peach blackberry pie was NOT. I used to really like their pies but this one was primarily a lot of not very tasty goo .

Very good food for breakfast. My wife and I had omelettes. The biscuits are very good also! Took dessert to go.
