The food was good but price-wise too expensive for what it was. It seems like the owners are very stingy, because they didn't allow free refills, which for what they were charging, should have come with refills. The waitress forgot half of my order. After I brought it up to her attention she apologized and went back to reorder it and bring it back. She said something about being on the house, which I thought was expected, considering the fact that she forgot it the first time. When the bill came, I noticed she had charged us full price for my meal. I asked her about her "it's on the house" comment, to which she replied that refill of my lemonade was free ... wow ... what a cheep "accommodation". It just looks so cheep and pitiful to try to make it up with a "free" refill that costs the establishment 50 cents at the most. I would have ratter not been told "it's on the house" at all!!! Not a very pleasant experience!

Met up with some friends for lunch recently on a Thursday and the ribs were the menu special so I tried them. They were very tasty and as advertised, falling off the bone. I was, however, expecting a little larger serving for the price but excellent flavor none-the-less. Waitress was pleasent. Nice river view. All in all a great lunch.

Updated: Met up with my friends again for lunch today before we went on the river. I had the special, cornmeal catfish, which was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Our son, daughter-in-law and 2 grands were visiting from CT and were hungry for a good wallleye dinnner. We called and reserved an early table, we were seated promptly near the window with a nice view. 3 of us ordered walleye, 1 ordered cod and the kids ordered off the kids menu. The cod was OK, a little tough. All 3 walleyes had a lot of bones, making it difficult to enjoy. Our waitress never came back to the table to refill water glasses. One person ordered ice tea and we were surprised when the bill came that we were charged for a refill on the tea. Most places offer free refills. We mentioned the issue with the bones in the walleye to our waitress when she brought the bill and her response was a snarky “well it IS fish”. We just wanted to let them know that maybe they should change or check on the supplier. We have ordered walleye at other establishments and have never had problems with bones. (Our favorite fish place was closed on this day or we would have gone there.). Needless to say, we have no plans of going to Huck Finn’s ever again.

The server and everyone there were friendly and really made us feel welcome. Got a nice table on the deck with a good view. The food was mediocre. Salad greens on the edge, watery dressing, tasteless walleye, burned sweet potato fries with no dipping sauce. We only had time for one meal in Lacrosse and wish it hadn't been this one. The plus was our young server from Romania, did a great job.

Just went to eat with my family of four for the very first time and it will be our last time. We walked in spoke to the hostess/ waitress and chose outdoor dining we were handed the menu and instructed to find a tall outside. We reviewed the menu and found everything appealing but we continued to wait for several minutes before we just got up and just walked out. The final straw was watching a couple that was seated long after us being addressed and served before us. Not one person approached us to say hello or say I am your waitress/waiter we will be with you momentarily. There were at least 4 waitresses/waiters that I saw walking around us. I have never felt so disrespected and invisible. My children have never had to walk out of a restaurant without eating before so that was an uncomfortable experience.

Very cool place at the marina. A little interesting to find but plenty of parking & the food was very good. Our server was very pleasant & he checked back often which was great because it was hot & we went through the drinks. The calamari had a lot of breading on it but was well seasoned & the coconut shrimp was great. The wraps & the salads were also heavy portions & very good.
It’s a great patio with a fun view of the marina as boats come & go.

Unfortunately horrible experience. We had visited this restaurant back in the day when we kept our boat here, always enjoyable. Recently brought our boat over for dinner and it was an experience I will never do again. Service was slow and behind...tables left cause they never received menus. One couple came in and met with staff to find a table outside and 5 tables were not bussed...they were the only tables available. Drinks were 20 minutes...2 sodas and 3 old fashions...well they were kind of old fashions...they had the right ingredients but the levels were wrong. But this is what sent me over the edge, the menu item i ordered whs the CHICKEN BACON & SWISS ON A BRIOCHE BUN. The pictures on the menu look great, kind of like McDonalds menus...until you receive your item. It did have chicken, it did have bacon and it did have swiss...but the bun was something that was old and crusty. In fact my daughter thought it was toasted because it was "kind of crusty"...well it was a cheap piece of bread in the "day old" shelf.
We also ordered coconut shrimp, it was not bad but we only received 6 and it was nearly a $14 item. LASTLY, I have a huge pet peeve when restaurants pass on the credit card fee onto the customer, what is worse is this. We received our disgruntled bill, $161 but there was a $5.36 OTHER FEE. Well, the processing fee for all credit cards...we used a debit card which should not have a fee to it...There is no middle man. So I questioned the staff and they called the owner i believe. His response was..."well it should not be on there but we can't do anything about it" which means, it is not right but we are going to charge you regardless. Either way, we have zero interest on coming back, which is to bad, the setting is great. There is just nothing beyond that.

Food was not cooked well. You need a steak knife to cut the cod…and the ribs. Drinks were okay, but sat at the bar for over 10 minutes while other staff were on their phones. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, but seemed to be one of few actually working. We ate here a couple years back and thought it was good, but after tonight we likely won’t be back. The price does not match the quality. There is a lot better quality at this price point in multiple other places throughout La Crosse.

I’ve been here for drinks before, but this was my first time dining. All I ordered was an app since I wanted a light lunch and their entrees were pretty spendy (to
be expected at a waterfront seafood restaurant). The food was great, no complaints! I was however disappointed to see that they did not offer a kids menu. My stepdaughter was hoping for more of a kid friendly menu.
I’ve always known this establishment to be family friendly, and have seen lots of large groups with children. They should really consider this.
The entrance to the inside of the restaurant is really awkward and uncomfortable. They have the host stand right at the top of the stairs, so you either have to stand on the stairs if there is a group in front of you or wait outside. In a lot of instances, when people want to be seated outside on nice days, they then have to all turn around and come down the stairs when there’s people already standing on the steps behind them.

We have been fans of Huck Fins catfish for years. Today we sat and waited for a server for 20 mins before deciding to leave. We even asked if we had maybe chosen unassigned table (after being told to seat ourselves). We were told a server would be right over (2 were standing and the bar). Beautiful outdoor seating with views of the marina. Our waitress, Karri was one of the best waitresses I’ve encountered in a long time! She brought a dog bowl for our dogs and made sure it was full the entire time; she even gave them doggie treats!

Cranberry Chicken Pecan Wrap was definitely a 5 star. My husband had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, both very fresh ingredients and held together nicely while eating. Serving sizes are perfect for not overeating, so you can finish it all! Service was on point, and everything was correct and very speedy for a 6pm on a Friday. My review : I'm originally from California so it's hard to find great tasting seafood , as my husband said you're in beef country, tonight I had coconut shrimp and ribeye- if I could give a rating of higher than five stars I would . The coconut shrimp was cooked to perfection, butterflied- good size - not overcooked browned to perfection- there was a veggie mix -superb - crisp- you could actually taste the veggies- the beef- I felt like I was eating a filet mignon could not have been cooked better, just melted - worth every penny- great meal for the price - pet friendly atmosphere to my waitress sorry I didn't get your name - you were awesome!

Went with a large party for a going away dinner. The issues began the moment the first call for reservations was made. We were told they didn't take reservations for the patio, but if someone got there early we could request the patio. About 3 days prior to the event we called back with a final attendance count, and was told that the original reservation didn't exist. Reservation was made again, and it was reinforced that we could request the patio as told.

Day of person arrives early to request the patio as instructed, and is told that there's no way that they can fit 24 people on the patio together. Instead they seat us inside at two separate long tables.

Now let's discuss service. After waiting 10 minutes after arriving, I went to the bar to get a drink. Bartender informed me that I could order through my server. I informed the bartender that I had been there a while and hadn't seen a server yet. Server never asked people with alcohol if they wanted another drink or non-alcoholic beverage.

I ordered the surf and turf with a baked potato and tossed salad as my sides. Food comes out the potato is literally the size of 2 golf balls combined, the salad is a triple handful of greens, half a grape tomato, 3 slices of cucumber, and 6 croutons. The shrimp batter was great, but the shrimp were the size of maybe my index finger. The steak was ordered medium well, the edges were well done, which I expected, the center was medium (cool center). Which was a surprise because the steak was literally a 3 maybe 4 ounce circle with the same thickness throughout. The steak was definitely not a steakhouse steak, it had no seasoning at all, and was reflected even in the au jus that was just as bland.

I left still hungry, which when I spend 30 bucks on a plate I expect not to be. Portion size does not fit the atmosphere or location. It was TV cooking show/ 5 star chef portion sizes, at a 3 star river rat restaurant. I do not recommend going here for food.

A very great place to eat next to the Mississippi River and enjoy the outdoors. The patio was clean and kept nice by the staff and they were also very friendly. The food was excellent and I would highly suggest going. I had the catfish and my girlfriend had the walleye sandwich! Very very yummy!

Food was cold. Started out with the coffee being cold. Server heatedit up. Took quite a while to get our food but that was fine we weren't in a hurry. When it came the food was cold. The baked potatoes wouldn't even melt the butter. The walleye had a lot of bones in it and was over cooked but cold when served to us. We (3 of us) were very disappointed with the quality of food preparation. Not what I would expect for a $25. Meal.

Our dinner was an out right catastrophe. Our appetizers were missing condiments and came with no napkins, plates, or silverware. My cod filet was overdone to the point of being tough, the waiter never refilled our drinks even after we asked for refills. I never got my salad and my loaded baked potato was not loaded. My husband's sandwich was plain and we never got his ketsup. I feel beyond ripped off. The weight staff is inexperienced, which is putting it politely. Management needs to teach them how to do their jobs. The restaurant is beautiful and the view is amazing, but the environment was a bit too stressful for me due to the stressed out wait staff.

The food was good, my brother from out of town and I had the Walleye po boy, with coleslaw which was great! The drinks were good, and the bartender addressed us right away. Our waitress gave us our food, then ended up leaving. That was the only downside, had to get up from our table for assistance. Otherwise Huck Finn's has always been enjoyable, and attentive, and friendly. Beautiful atmosphere right on the river! Beautiful Summer day!

Went there for lunch today, myself, sister and brother. Waited over an hour for our food, everything was cold when it came out. Walleye, Cod and Catfish dinners. All were overdone. Walleye was full of bones. Butter wouldn't even melt in baked potato. 100.00 lunch plus tip. Won't go back.

Food was okay, portions sizes were great! Maybe we were there on an off day? They seemed to be short staffed or training staff? We had to go find a server after sitting at our table for 15-20 minutes. 5 pm on a Saturday is when we were there. Place was maybe half full? It is at a marina though... Maybe they were filling orders for the boats? We did entertain ourselves by reading the names of all the yachts while we waited!

We had a table of 6 at noon. We waited 20 minutes before we were asked by wait staff if we wanted anything to drink. At the same time we finally received our drinks we were then asked if we were ready to place our order. We had a very long wait for our food. I ordered a chicken salad wrap. There was very little chicken salad. I would say it should be called a lettuce wrap. So very disappointed. I have had their chicken salad in the past, it was wonderful, this was not. One person in our party ordered a whisky press and got an old fashion instead. Our lunch took 1 1/2 hours from start to finish. We will not be back.
