We waited 70 minutes for a 6 top. We were told 45 minute wait. When I asked after 70 minutes of waiting I was told it would probably be an additional 30 minutes. The girl working behind the bar helping check people in was extremely rude, no people skills. I explained she told us 45 minutes, that’s what we expected. She said I told you when I had a table available, I would hate for her to say sorry I was wrong! Rude! Would not recommend!

Long wait. The hostess and the people clearing tables extremely slow. There were several tables that would of been available when we first arrived, except that no one had cleared the tables. Hostess didn't greet anyone, she waited until people walked up to her. Our server was great, but there was still a fairly long wait to get our food after ordering. Food was ok, but nothing worth bragging about. The peppers and onions in my western omelet were under cooked, as well as my hash browns. I ended up feeling nauseous after finishing my meal. Probably will not come back for breakfast. Would not recommend.

WOW! What a great little gem of a local restaurant! The staff was friendly from the moment we walked in.
We started with French Onion Soup w/ gigantic garlic toast croutons, which was absolutely delicious. Clearly homemade! I had the $22 filet special that also came with an additional side as well as the soup or salad. Every dish our family ordered was fantastic! The desserts were also amazingly delicious.

Now let’s talk about the atmosphere and value ! The restaurant is decorated in antique photos and vintage beers cans, which added cozy charm. The whole meal was a great value, less than $100 for four of us !

Finally, our waitress decorated our to-go food container for my son, which made his night ! Do not sleep on this restaurant !

On the occasion when my family went to dine here one I accidentally spilled my sons drink. Instead of being understanding the waitress serving our table became rude and returned our dinners to the kitchen. My Spouce had to ask one of the bussers for a towel. The waitress then returned to bring out our food order.
I had dined here previously and experienced the same rude waitress who gave a dirty look in the direction of my Spouce over a question. When I didn't tip at the bar a cashier gave me a staredown. I don't plan on dining at the restaurant if this is what happens.

Service was great . Food not so good which I was disappointed as I have been there before. We ordered two Filet mignon both was very bland no flavor. My other son ordered two deep fried catfish which he said had a strange taste and texture. When we got home we looked at his leftover piece it was very slimey and still pretty pink inside definitely not done . Tenderloin tips where good . Paying $170 plus a $50 dollar tip you would expect your food to be better. I Sure hope he don't get sick from the raw fish

Food can be a bit heavy but good homestyle cooking has that signature about it. Came through on a roadtrip too early to stop in Madison so we drove the extra two hours to get the "best cheese curds in La Crosse" ... they were very filling as an appetizer and the building itself is super quaint :-)

Katie was one of the best wait staff we had the pleasure of dining with. We were all hungry for steak and really weren't sure what to expect, so we asked for her recommendation regarding the steaks. Her quick response squashed any doubts we had and the Hungry Peddler did not disappoint. The Fillet, T-Bone, and Ribeye were cooked to perfection. When we are back in town again, the Hungry Peddler will be on our list, and we will be asking for Kadie, and I urge anyone to do the same. Thank you Katie and thank you Hungry Peddler! P.S. the cheesecake is to die for!

I'm not sure what happened to this place at all.
Very sad seeing I used to come to this place a whole lot before when the price's matched the quality of there food.
When I'd come in and have never had any issues and it was definitely great no issues and waitress where pleasant, that all changed last night.

Last night my fiance, 2 kids and myself dinned in.
I would really expect if your price's go up on meals that the quality should at least be the same or better then before.
I order normally the same thing's everytime the 2 grilled chicken breast meal with 2 sides and a cup a melted butter used to be 12.99 and it was great before normal great grilled and juicy.
Unfortunately this time 17.99 now was first told only comes with 1 but had to point out it said 2 on the menu. So instead of up charging me for my soup she gave it to me with the meal.
When I got my plate I was beyond shocked the 2 chicken breast looked very under cooked with not a sign of a grill mark let alone pan cook mark on it at all. Besides the fact my chicken breasts was as thin as 3 quarters stacked together. It looked like someone put these breast in the microwave to cook. It was very upsetting and I was disgusted.
My fiance paid for the used to be all you can eat fish and chicken to get 2 of each. His chicken wouldn't even come off it was to overly fried.
Should of known something was up when they brought me the French onion soup because it was by far not served as it used to be at all not at all.
My fiance said something about my food because I couldn't eat any of it. I just replied I can eat this it doesn't seem OK to eat and I'll just eat some place else. So I brought up how his chicken isn't even edible either it's overly cooked. They took his plate left mine and then returned to bring me 2 more chicken breast still same size as before and this time I couldn't cut into it.
I was just over it, was charged for all of it but 4 bucks was taken off for the chicken that was burnt. Never ever heard of this type of service at all with out trying to accommodate with things ain't right.
That's bad service glad my kids got to eat with no complaints at all but I just wanted to get out of there.
And we will never return after this experience.

It's kind of a hole in the wall place, but the food was excellent. Drinks were average. There is large menu to suit any taste. The walleye dinner was great. Hashbrowns were not the thin crispy style but tasted good. Coleslaw serving was generous, no silly NyQil cup serving here. Light chicken meal was prepared well. Bacon wrapped scallops were a bit small and served in a dish of buttery goodness. The steak was a bit over cooked. Asked for med/rare and it was barely pink. Taste was flavorful. Onion ring appetizer was fabulous!. Too full for desserts.

Will you play some carryout order every Friday and when the call is answered they know who we are immediately. The fruit is prepared perfectly and when we go and pick it up there is absolutely no waiting it's ready to go immediately. Unlike Smitty's who we used to get our fish from because they're only three blocks away they can't seem to get the order right it's never ready on time. Hungry peddler is about 2 1/2 mi from our house and I can get down there and back home again in a faster time the food is correct it's always fresh and they care about their customers.

Hubby got pancakes and my son got a burrito. The staff was great about keeping our coffee and waters full! Oh, you MUST try the jalapeño bacon, the best I've ever had!

Great place. Just missed breakfast but decided to wait for lunch. The mozzarella sticks were fantastic. The order of garlic bread was massive. The seasoning the have on the tables was delicious. The coffee was good. The staff was phenomenal. I was disappointed in the french onion soup. The onions needed to be cooked more, but the flavor was good; I guess I'm spoiled, lol. Different tastes, apparently, because they have so many rave reviews. Overall, we're glad we stopped and would return. We are definitely going to try to come during breakfast hours, for starters.

This is an unapologetic throwback to the old school Wisconsin supper club, with touch of dive thrown in.

I have been staying in and going through La Crosse for 25 years. I'm sorry to have missed this place till now. My brother has recommended it for years.

This was my best restaurant experience in at least a year. I'm a picky fella because I cook well.

Her dish. 2 pork chops, salad, and baked potato. Homemade applesauce. 14 bucks.

Salad. They serve salad to at least 60% of the guests. Fresh crispy lettuce. Onion, cucumber, tomato. Perfect opener. This is not a roasted beet, goat cheese, almond Meyer lemon vinaigrette over arugula. This is a perfect old school Wisconsin supper club salad served fresh and tasty.

Pork chops. Center cut chops are tough to cook. These came out perfect. 145 degrees no pink just before they get tough. Needed a bit of salt.

Baked potato. If you get this far and mess up a baked potato then you wouldn't be getting this review.

His dish. 8 Oz filet mignon med rare. salad, hashbrowns, dup deal with shrimp scampi 28 bucks.

Salad same as above, except I had French and blue. Can't replicate the French easily, but if this isn't homemade blue, they spend the money on the good stuff.

Filet med rare. Perfect temp. A bit more salt.

Hashbrowns. I asked the server if you use food service hashbowns. She said she didn't know but they came out crispy.

Shrimp scampi has about a pound of butter on it. The bread soaks it up.

I meant to post this 3 years ago. I've been back 3 times since.

Same great place, same great food.

I give this 10 out of 5 stars. We were told this is the best Eggs Benedict in Wisconsin. It is true! We were seated in a surprisingly short amount of time and waited on immediately. Our food came out fast, hot and beyond delicious. Most impressive was our server. As busy as she was our coffee was never empty. She stopped and chatted when I had a question and was friendly and knowledgeable.

Went to breakfast at this restaurant in an old historical building. Atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming. The food is next level good and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.

Hungry Peddler was recommended to our group of 11 women. Loved it. The food was delicious and generous. Loved all the antiques-- gave us something to reminisce about.

Almost every time we drive through La Crosse we stop at the Hungrey Peddler. We stopped there again today, and as usual we are never disappointed, but today along with a great meal and very taste Bloody Mary’s, we also had the best waitress ever ( I wish I could remember her name …. I’m bad at that), she made great suggestions, was attentive, and even had a great sense of humor.
Next time through you’ll see us again!!

My husband had the meat loaf special and loved it. I had a Reuben, and it was one of the best I've had. Staff are friendly and very capable. Will be going back soon.
