We bought our first house up the street from Il Mito over 17 years ago and have been there at least 20 times since then. We've seen their prices double over that time and still gone because we like the food and believe in supporting local small businesses. We just got back from Il Mito after trying to celebrate our anniversary there, and we won't be back; I'll no longer recommend it to anyone.

We were seated at 5:45 and left there at 7:20 without ever seeing our entrees. This was after asking about them at 6:45 and being told by our server they were "coming right out." We never saw him again. After that, he completely ignored us and refused to make eye contact. Shortly after, another staff member came to our table and apologized, saying they were super busy but the entrees were coming right up. At 7:15, we asked her to box them because we were sick of being there at this point, and they still never arrived at the table. It's also worth noting that the table next to us, who was seated closer to 6:15, had their entrees by 6:45 after an appetizer.

You'd think after all of that they would have comped the meal. I've had meals at much higher-end places comped without even asking and for a lot less than we experienced tonight. At this point, we each had a fountain drink, an appetizer, and a salad. They took the fountain drinks and appetizer off the bill but were still charging us for the entrees, which we still hadn't seen. I asked them to take the entrees off the bill, but they said they couldn't let us take them to go if they did that. The staff member said she would be charged for them if she removed them, so I told her we didn't want them anymore and to just take them off the bill. She must have been complaining about this in front of a regular, because she then came back to our table and said a regular, Mark, paid our bill for us. Very kind of Mark to do that, but extremely unprofessional on the staff member's behalf to be airing grievances in front of a customer. Also, what kind of operation is this where a manager can't comp a meal after an experience like ours?

So we left hungry and agitated.

Let me preface this review with the fact that I'm an Italian cuisine snob. If you've read my other reviews of Italian fare in MKE you'll notice the trend to be rather underwhelmed. So, I thought I would table my attitude and try some other recommended spots to see if they were at least close to Chicago level (only three places in my life were up to actual Italy level, outside of Italia). When we first entered we were greeted by Omar. He told us his grandmother was Sicilian. Great start. Then, I ordered some bruschetta (pronounced "brew-skay-tuh"). Sorry, but that is a pet peeve when the waiters in an Italian restaurant don't know how to pronounce the dishes. But, back to the food. It was splendid. The tomatoes were ripe, the olive oil was tasty and the bread perfectly toasted. For my main course I had the Ravioli di Zucca. This was the litmus test for me. I've dined often in Mantova, Italy where their pride rests in pumpkin dishes. Yeah, this was outstanding. In fact, it may have been the best Italian pasta dish I've eaten in MKE. Bravi. My father wasn't as happy with his ribeye Bistecca di Manzo Fiorentina. He felt the cut was a little tough and therefore didn't finish it. This is a rare occurrence for him as he is a Missouri steak lover. But, all in all, I felt really good about Il Mito Trattoria and hope you give it a try yourselves. Italy is a long flight away and when in Milwaukee, this is as good as it gets.

Food was delicious but the real star was our waitress, Eileen. Her bubbly and upbeat attitude made the experience even better. She encouraged me to try the “life changing meatball”. I declined but I haven’t stopped thinking about it as I have never heard anyone describe a meatball that way. Excellent job Eileen!

My dad and I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. We had to wait a long time for a server to come to our table, and then another 25 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. After our appetizer arrived, my dad's glass of wine finally arrived. We noticed that the table next to us had to send their drinks back because they were too sweet. At another table, the diners never received their appetizer. Then we had to wait for our food another 30 minutes. We noticed that the other table got a order of bread and we did not and it arrived after we ate our dinner. My dinner was the pumpkin ravioli and the size was very small and there was not a lot of filling in it. There was a lot of confusion and it was over all a not good experience at all. Over all the staff where very rude and where very busy. The hostess was very rude and said that we had to call ahead and make a reservation. We did not know we had to do that and it was prom weekend. Over all I would say I would not go back there.

Excellent dining experience this past Friday evening. Very friendly bartender while we waited to be seated. Gave excellent recommendation on a red wine. We sat in the outdoor garden on a beautiful night.
Very pleasant, patient and efficient server took our order. The Fever lasagna was the best as was the pumpkin pasta dish!
A++++++ dining experience

Dinner was amazing. Started with yummy bread w/olive oil & garlic, calamari as an appetizer, we split a salad which consisted of grilled veggies with a balsamic glaze on them. Very tasty. He had his lamb shank which was very tasty and I had one of their specials which was penne pasta with a light creamy tomato sauce and shrimp, scallops and chicken. Very good. We shared a cream brûlée and 2 cappuccinos. Everything was excellent. Of course we spent more than our gift card but it was so worth it. Weekly they have $33 deals and quite a bit to pick from. Always very fresh and yummy.

We have been coming to IL Mito for years and have always enjoyed ourselves! But our last two visits have been phenomenal! We came here to celebrate my Mom winning an award and our waiter made the night that much more enjoyable! As usual, the food was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend the ribeye with the pesto pasta on the side (we substituted the pesto with garlic oil & wine sauce). For salads we ordered the mixta salad but with the Ceasar dressing. Lastly, the bread that comes out complimentary with the garlic paste is great. Keep ordering it!

Amazing Italian restaurant! Great service, excellent Italian food. Olive oil with roasted garlic brought to the table with warm bread. Ordered Bruschetta, Carpaccio for appetizers, words can not explain how good it was. Ordered the bolognese and lasagna for the main course, mouth watering you will not be disappointed! A must get is the pear puff pastry served with homemade whipped cream with a half of a fresh strawberry. You’ll want to be nice and share this but trust me you’ll be fighting for the last bite, order one for yourself instead.

Nice dining experience. I have Celiac and need to eat gluten free food. I have eaten at Zesti, a sister restaurant, before and know this group understands cross contamination.

The gluten free pizza was not a flatbread but a thin crust pizza- good crust. There was a ton of cheese on every slice and in my opinion not enough of the great sauce.

Two cocktails, an upcharge for gluten free bread and oil, a gluten free pizza, and a dessert came in around $70. Not a bad night but nothing that blew us away for the 5 stars.

A girlfriend and I ate here for a recent night out! The service was attentive and I enjoyed my glass of wine. I also liked the atmosphere, which is a bit retro 1990s Italian vibes - pretty cozy! Unfortunately disappointed with my food and overall felt you could probably get a similar meal at somewhere like Olive Garden. We shared a Caesar salad - it tasted OK but was not super appealing and the lettuce did not look fresh. I ordered the Fettuccine alle Carbonara and I asked them to modify it since I'm allergic to legumes and can't eat peas. I'm not sure if they just decided to substitute the dish with an Alfredo sauce with chicken or what but it was not a traditional carbonara, it was a heavy cream sauce. My friend really enjoyed her chicken parm, but I truly think it was of similar quality to any other fast food Italian.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Milwaukee area. The food is outstanding. We ordered Bruschetta. I don't like tomatoes but I loved this dish. For dinner I had Scallopini with Spinach and Angel Hair pasta. It was cooked to perfection, the spinach was probably the best I ever had.

The service was very good, but a little over the top. The server was great, but the hostess came over constantly to the point of being annoying.

The atmosphere is nice, nothing too special other than the party / cooking class room, which is great. There was something that sounded like a cell phone ringing numerous times by the desk was loud and bothersome.

I will definitely go here again. And again.

Nice Italian restaurant in downtown Tosa.

We were able to grab a reservation to ensure we had our table on time and were seated right away.

The staff was fast and efficient and took great care of us.

I got the lasagna which was very very cheese forward. Unfortunately I did not care for this. I like lasagna where the meat flavor is more prominent and the cheese is baked.

My wife got the short ribs with mashed potatoes which were better in my opinion.

I’d definitely come back to try something else though.

Just realized we were overcharged for our meals. I looked at the menu online and calculated out what we ate and even added some extra dollars and the math still doesn't add up. On top of that, they added a $10 tip even after we tipped the same amount in cash. Look at your receipt and bank statements closely! The soda was flat and when we had a server check on it, he said he just changed the syrup and "that's the way it was". Food was ok but will never be back due to these discrepancies.

I called Il Mito on 28 March to make a reservation for dinner on 1 April to celebrate my wife's birthday. The reservation was confirmed and followed up with a reminder.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess looked around to see what tables were available and eventually offered us a tiny table measuring approx 24''x30'' or alternatively we could be seated in the teaching kitchen on high seats, but at a slightly larger table. When I asked why we couldn't be seated at one of the slightly larger tables in the restaurant, I was curtly told that these tables were for parties of 4 and she wanted to hold them "in case groups of that size came in". Give me a break! Very rude and definitely NOT welcoming.
I was disgusted since I had made a reservation. Reluctantly we took the table in the teaching kitchen where the seating was anything but comfortable. Had the hostess insisted that we sit at the small table in the main restaurant, I would have left there and then!
It is also pertinent to mention that when we were leaving the restaurant the table we initially requested (capable of seating four people) was occupied by a couple!
Now for the dinner. The meal was excellent and definitely in keeping with what we had become used to in previous visits to Il Mito. In particular, my wife had the lamb shank and has not stopped praising the deliciousness since!
Our waitress, Jeniffer, was a total credit to the restaurant. She was attentive, friendly and very professional and unknowingly made what could have been a total disaster, a very pleasant evening.
We will definitely be returning to Il Mito, but will not wish to be greeted by the same hostess.

You know, we’ve always had a good experience here. Tonight we had a party of 7 for a couple family birthdays. They put us in the private room in the cooking kitchen - never again. Felt forgotten. $350+ bill. And then the definition of carbonara- came out green with a pesto sauce. Only reason I ordered the sirloin was because of the pairing with carbonara. Took TWO tries to get real white sauce carbonara delivered to the table. Tiramisu was heavy and too custardy. I don’t know…. Kinda dumbfounded right now.

Small, rustic location. Very comfortable atmosphere. Casual. Service was excellent and the food delicious. I ordered the Carne pizza. So good. I would have liked it cooked a bit longer to brown the cheese, but that's just a personal preference. I did brown it when reheating the leftovers and it actually brought out the flavor of the caramelized onion more. Don't get me wrong, it was still VERY tasty cooked per their recipe. Others in the group ordered the fettuccine, rib eye, risotto, and one ordered 2 appetizers for her dinner. All agreed the food was excellent.

The only problem you'll run into is parking. It is most challenging as there are no parking lots anywhere so it is all street parking. In a busy area. Free, but you COULD be walking a block, or more, If it's a busy night on North Avenue.

Worth it.

Online ordering “down”, so called. They tell me we don’t take orders over the phone. What??? I have never had a restaurant say this. I had to go order in person and wait. Food expensive and smaller portions to go then when you dine in. Good linguine, but the steak with pasta we ordered supposed to be medium was way overcooked. We have dined here before and food was good, would never order carryout again.

Very mediocre food followed up with mediocre service. Both of our pastas( angel hair and lasagna) both over sauced. Apps uninspired and over sauced as well. Decent flavors but no refinement in cooking.

Service slow and not very attentive. As an example, empty glassware not cleared away, no sweetener or spoon given with espresso, ordered a cognac at $12 ( menu price ) but was billed at $15. When confronted, waitress admitted they new about the issues but hadn’t gotten around to making the menu change.

The fake brick wall paper just feels cheap as well as the wall image that should be hung vertically but was hung horizontally….come on man!!!

Finally, the repeated over branding of everything Michael Feker ( wine, olive oil, lemoncello, home kitchen design, brown spirts, stuffed pastas, sauces, etc, etc grows tiresome.

Take your $200 per couple and go to Balistreri’s, great cooking and excellent value.

My experience at this place started out well but went downhill as soon as the entrees arrived. The short ribs were 90% fat, not a bad flavor but nothing special. Ordered the ribeye med. rare. The first ribeye came out well done and the second one was barely cooked. Grossly undercooked is more accurate. Clearly rushed out and lacked the same presentation as the first plate. Not sure I would be back after that. Cooking a steak anywhere near the requested temperature is not too much to ask from this kind of restaurant. Probably explains why it was so empty and why they were the only place that had reservations available that evening. Lesson learned.

★ 1

Unbelievably bad.
Our service was slow, but it's a fancy sit down restaurant, so we were supposed to chit chat and it really wasn't too big of a deal.
It was the food that I am going to discuss. This was to be a 3 star review, wait until the end.
So we ordered appetizers and drinks. The Sangria was tart without being refreshing, It had very little flavor outside "tart". I ordered some simple syrup to cut the sourness, and sure enough it simply became less tart. No additional flavors were present. Diet Coke was flat

The Eggplant and the Meatballs. The Eggplant was wet and unappetizing in a forgettable sauce. That's a phrase you will hear a lot, along with mediocre. Nothing was impressive. The meatball was nothing fantastic, it tasted like meat. Not spiced meat, not grilled meat, as if they had fried them to create a maillard crust or sear. Just meat. The texture was nice unlike the sloppy wet kiss of the eggplant. So i had a sauce perhaps we could get some flavor with that mouthfeel. Sadly, it comes in a white cheese also devoid of flavor.

So we ordered food. I got the Carne. I was not impressed. Where to start? Bad pizzas are loaded with thick, dense layers of melted cheese. It had cooled and congealed by the time I got it, so it was essentially just cool cooked cheese, and far too much. As if they were trying to cover up a bad pizza.

A few sprinkles of Mushroom flakes and maybe a dozen onions, neither translucent nor caramelized but somewhere in the middle, graced the pie. I couldn't tasted them for all the gluey cheese. and layered unceremoniously, upon -and with no regard for aesthetics, were large slices of Pick'n Save Deli meat. I assume that's what it was. The Beef was gray, the salami was red and had no fat chunks, it did not curl nor were it's edges burnt. and the prosciutto - I have never had prosciutto that looked so much like thin sliced baloney. Typically there are streaks. And I'd call it mortadella maybe, but no fat chunks.

They were large pieces - but that doesn't really work, ads a bite pulls off one of the deli counter slices off. I ended up pulling the toppings off, extricating them from cheese, chopping up the meat and replacing them, all the while thinking that a Kwik Trip or Frozen Pizza would be better.

The Salami had no flavor, the beef had no flavor, and I honestly kind of think they forgot the prosciutto because it was so tepid in flavor I forgot if it was there. It was "Ok" It wasn't really great but I figured what the heck.

The crust is... nothing. It's not Neapolitan, it's Not Floppy New York (though it lacks structure towards the middle) , but it's hard towards the end so folding it is impossible. It's not wafer thin with large chewy edges like a Neapolitan, toppings did not go to the end like some thins, It was not buttery and crispy It certainly was not a thick crust with great chew.
. It was...I guess I could describe it as hard-tack like. Thick dry cracker.

So, ok, not the best pizza. Not even top 100 pizzas. But whatever, pizza is still pretty good even when it's bad.
But everyone was sort of unimpressed. One person was shocked at the small portions of pasta (As was I) , Another person had a "full sized" salad that was honestly the size of a side Salad. Still another had a pork cutlet with a very small portion of noodles. Just small portions or unimpressive food.
But then we get the bill and it's enormous. FOr food this mediocre, this "not-worth talking about" There is no way it's worth 400 dollars. That's why instead of a three, you get a one. Plenty of great Italian places in town, I'd avoid this one.

Oh, the focaccia rosemary bread was good, and the oil and garlic served with it was delicious - but that's not hard to figure out bread, garlic, and olive oil. We should have just kept ordering bread.

I have come here several times in the past and always had a good experience. I decided to bring my boyfriend here for the first time since it’s one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the Milwaukee area. We were sat and waited several minutes before the host/bar back came over and took our drink order. He brought the drinks and when seemed surprised when we told him our server had not yet been over to introduce herself or take our order. Upon hearing this, he took our appetizer order and told us our server would be with us shortly.
It wasn’t until we had finished our appetizers, 40 minutes since we sat down, that our server finally came over by us. She asked if we needed more time with the menu… unless she thought we were illiterate why would we need more than 40 minutes to decide our entrees ?! At this point I could not give her the benefit of the doubt. Yes the restaurant was fairly busy, but she greeted and served food to another table that sat down AFTER us before she even looked our direction.
This was a very sad experience for me since I have always had a wonderful time here in the past.
As always, the food was wonderful. But as many restaurant owners know, the service is as important as the quality of the food. This time the service fell far below the food quality and therefore, I will not be returning for a long time, if ever.

Absolutely disgusting. This restaurant ruined my 21st birthday. Hostess with the long curly black hair was so rude 2 times in a row maybe she shouldn’t be working in customer service if shes going to have that attitude. Food was not edible!!! My whole table hated their food and one person sent a dish back. The servers were nice though! The servers and the bartenders are the only reason I’m leaving 2 stars instead of 1.

5 stars for Michal's service! We walked in on a Tuesday night without reservations - he was the only server and the dining room was at least halfway full. Hostess was reluctant to seat us due to the ratio of customers to the one server, but Michal graciously accepted us. Despite being very busy - and managing a power outage due to the storm! - Michal was extremely friendly, personable, and accommodating.

This was our place in Tosa. Great pasta, pizza and specials. Salmon is amazing.
Downgraded to 4 stars because their online takeout is dicey. Then 3 because of customer service. Uneven heating on items, and missing items tonight. Didn’t get the soup I ordered, and the mista salad arrived dry- with NO dressing on the side to put on it myself. I called and the waiter on the phone said that’s how they did it. Hmmm. No. I wasn’t buying lettuce. The Bolognese was also very greasy tonight, not sure why.
Hopefully just a bad day for them. Definitely still recommended.
UPDATE: after the comment from the chef, it was still not taken care of. I got a marketing email today from the Chef asking for my support and I reminded him I'd never gotten a refund for missing soup and the salad I ate dry. He just today approved his special events person to mail me a $6 gift card - 5 for the soup I paid for (which is $6.28 after tax) and $1 for the missing dressing on my $7.95 mista salad. I asked for $14.66, the cost of both items with tax, and I would be back again soon. Instead, they asked for my address to send the $6 gift card.
I’m done here for awhile.
We've been a huge supporter of his restaurant with family and friends and recommendations to many people. Nickel and diming in this case cost them a lot more than $8.

We need to give them another try. The quality of the food was great. There was some mix up with the menu. A big misunderstanding. I had the ravioli, and it was tasty. I like to be able to have some food there and take some for later. I
The portion size was small for the price.

The bruchetta portion was small for the price. Usually it comes with four pieces, and we should get bread and olive oil soon as we get water or drinks. The staff was helpful and went above the expectation for service.

Food good service not so good. I surprised my wife with a visit to IL MITO after having been away for two years and was disappointed by the attention to service. Chef Feker personally prepared our daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner in 2010 and having always felt an endearing fondness for this jewel on North Avenue. On this particular Saturday evening the wait staff's attention appeared to be drawn to a party of three in the adjoining private kitchen/room. The entire wait staff provided unparalleled service to this party while other observable guests received service which was "behind the curve ". The disparity was obvious. I ordered cappuccino with my dessert and was informed that the espresso machine was not working eventhough other guests received espresso. I'm not sure if I'll be returning.

Il Mito does not disappoint. I've eaten here several times and had a good experience each time. First, I love the atmosphere. It has a really cosy vibe with the dim lighting. I've been here when the restaurant is full and busy, and never felt like the wait for a table, or drinks or food took long. The bruschetta is very tasty-it's 3 pretty big pieces that can easily be cut in half to share. The split-pea soup is phenomenal! I absolutely love it and it's beautifully presented. Pasta dishes and pizza are all good, as are the various nightly specials. I have a difficult time choosing an entree because everything is so good. They have a nice selection of wine too. In summer they have a few tables outside. I don't think I'd take kids here, but it's perfect for a date or business dinner.

We always go out for dinner the night before Mother's day to avoid crowds and unruly kids. This year we went to Il Mito. There were 7 of us and we all had something different. I had risotto with shrimp and asparagus which was fantastic. My husband had the special which was a seafood linguine also extremely good. Other entrees included salmon and duck. Our waiter Cesar was never hovering and, even though it wasn't Mother's day, he made us feel special. When it came time for dessert only 3 of us were going to have something so decided to split an order of tiramisu but Cesar brought out 2 so everyone could have some but only charged for 1. Prices are at the high end of the $$ range but it's not your neighborhood Italian restaurant.

Food: I had the lasagna bolognese which was nice, though it was a little burned on the underside. I wasn't blown away but I enjoyed it. The complimentary bread they brought out before our meal was delicious and definitely started the meal off right. Along with that, I had a mushroom soup (soup of the day) that came with my lunch entree which was perfect.
Service: Quite slow, especially for being a late lunch after the main lunch crowd had left. It interfered with the experience a bit, so it is worth noting in my opinion.
Atmosphere: Cozy, small restaurant that felt separate from the street I had just walked in from. I liked the general feel of the restaurant and the lighting.
Value: Mid-range to higher-priced restaurant, but with the bread and soup that came with my lunch entree it was reasonable.

We LOVE Il Mito! Great Meditteranean fusion with a flair and many seasonal farm-to-table offerings. While it can be very busy and noisy on a weekend, the quality of the food, service and menu pairings are exceptional. Chef Michael Feker's passion shows in every detail, and his multi-course supper events, especially on the summer patio, are not to be missed.

Other than the lack of attention that our waiter had to our table [it took >10 min for him to come back and get our order AFTER our appetizer had been delivered, and offered parmesan cheese for a pasta dinner and never came back with it] , and the insane mark up on wine [they charge $31 for an $11 bottle]...the worst part was that we had an EXTREME nut allergy, told the waiter, who either didn't tell the chef or they both were under attentive, because our appetizer was delivered to our table with pesto (which contains pine nuts). If I hadn't eaten the first bite and recognized what it was, my boyfriend would have ended up in anaphylactic shock and we would have been at the hospital before the waiter had come back to check on us or take our order for dinner. The appetizer wasn't even comped. I was more than disappointed.

Early dinner on a Wednesday, only a few tables. Service was prompt and attentive. Herb infused bread along with a plate of olive oil annointed with roasted garlic came first and gratis, lovely. The split pea soup was perfect. I ordered the lasagna bolognese, which had a wonderful flavor, in particular the shortrib. It was a little on the dry side, but a generous portion. Puff pastry for dessert, it was okay. The caramel drizzle on it was the best part. My two friends gave me mixed reviews on their meals. One found her stuffed chicken special average and said she recently had a similar dish elsewhere and that version was much larger and tasted better. Creme brulee got raves. Ambiance in the restaurant is muted and serene,. Women's bathroom is a dust covered single stall situation....ugh

I reserved a private couple's cooking lesson online and 2 days before the lesson, I still had not heard anything from anyone confirming any details regarding the lesson and nothing confirming payment when I booked the lesson online which I found odd.
Upon calling to find out details, I spoke with 3 individuals, all of which provided escalating attitude and hostility towards me when I explained what I was calling for. The third and final individual became condescending and rather than trying to figure out how to make this reservation happy and maintain a customer, he began mocking me. I called him out on his conduct, explaining the lesson was a birthday gift and I was confused as to why he and the other two individuals I spoke with were more interested in being rude to me rather than attempt to help me. Yes, evidently the online site I attempted to reserve the lesson on does not function properly. Is that my fault? No. Should they be rude to someone who calls to inquire about this? No. We've enjoyed coming to Il Mito for years and after my experience with these individuals, never again will I step foot in Il Mito or any other with this chef.
