2nd visit. I'm very familiar with African cuisine, but with the lack of restaurants serving in our city, I've been missing the divine flavors.
Not anymore.
Staff is kind and helpful, even willing to fulfill a curiosity or two as you make your selection. I have a dietary issue, and the clerk was a kindred spirit and I am even more prone to stop in here more than other places now. The only problem i had between the two visits is my fufu!! I prepare it at home, so 5 bucks is pretty expensive to me for one serving, but the portions are usually adequate. I forgive them. It was freshly made and there wasn't a whole supply there as usual. Then when my supply ran out I understood!! Wow fufu got reaaaally expensive in the interim.
BUT the food is a MUST! Vegetarian options, and all kinds of deliciousness await. If you are curious or tired of the usual put it on your list and stop through.....

Wow!!! This place needs to be on Milwaukee’s radar! Really high quality food prepared from scratch and SO deeply flavorful! We had the jerk chicken, fufu, beef egusi, and fried plantains as a takeout picnic to go to a neighboring park hosting live music. I’ve never had anything like it—the beef egosi was a thick curry, with a flavor profile that I couldn’t quite identify, lacking cream or coconut found in many Asian curries, absolutely mind blowingly good!! The jerk chicken was unlike Jamaican jerk, in a rich bone broth with oil—every last bit of which we devoured on the fufu. The fried plantains were also great—a hint sweet and not overly greasy. The food was not just tasty, but deeply nourishing and healthy with the many spices and bone broth. All well packaged for our beautiful picnic. This is definitely my new favorite in Milwaukee! I can’t wait to share with friends and family!

I love it here. You get good food and great service. The last time I was here my fufu tasted burnt, I called and was told to come back and get new batch. Came in looking for the goat egusi was actually just having a pregnancy craving to try the whole egusi and fufu experience regardless, but they only had goat curry available. So the young lady let me sample the beef egusi before purchase which was a plus and it was great. I have Celiac disease and am always looking for safe gluten free options to eat out. I travel around the U.S. frequently and I always look for an African experience! I love Egusi Soup, Fufu, and Jollof! I have made it my goal to try it where ever I can find it! Today it was in Milwaukee, WI! I called Immy’s before ordering and spoke to the owner Immy! She was very kind and answered all my questions regarding the food and spice levels. I was excited to taste her version of the West African dish Egusi, Fufu, and Jollof being that she is from Uganda (East Africa)! Though it was different, it was very good! I’m generally used to Egusi having lots of melon seeds and bitter leaf or spinach. This was more like a spicy beef stew. The beef was tender and full of flavor! As a bonus she added coconut milk chicken and that too was very pleasing to my palate! As for the Jollof, it was good, but it could use just a little more flavor. It was a little on the bland side. The husband wanted to try fufu, so we stopped here to grab some food. We had coconut curry chicken, fufu, smoked jerk chicken, goat curry, the two kinds of rice and a tropical smoothie. The nose knows. Every time I pass these places, the aroma hits my nostrils, and I'm tempted. Today, I gave in. It was sublime, flavorful, and just I needed. I ordered an appetizer, 2 sambusas, both pinto and turkey. Omg, with or without the sauce, it was perfect. Spicy and flavorful with crunchy texture. Then, for my main fried chicken stew on a bed of white rice. Every bite was complex with just enough spicy heat to make your eyes roll back. The cuisine is Kenyon/ Ugandan with only a few things americanized. For instance, most of the recipes they replace the traditional goat for chicken. The currys are more traditional, and they have fufu, which, next time I go, I wanna try. Fufu is stable in that part of Africa, and I don't know any other place in milwaukee that has it. I love trying new things. The decorations and layout are minimal, but when your food is a knock out, you don't need fancy trappings. The staff was prompt, fast, and answered my questions. So when on Oakland, inhale and follow the trail to delicious.

I had the pleasure of dining at your establishment and thoroughly enjoyed the Sambusa, Fried Spinach with Chicken, and Fufu. The service, food, and atmosphere were all exceptional. The staff was incredibly pleasant, patient, and helpful, and they greeted me with a warm smile. This was my first visit, but it certainly won't be my last. Delicious East African food. Restaurant is counter service casual. Entrees rotate depending on the day, though there are some staples that are always available. Does a steady takeout business. Staff is very friendly. Highly recommended.

Immy’s is monthly treat. Every dish has been superb. My fav…chicken coconut curry and both of the egusi dishes. The young man at the counter is consistently friendly and enjoyable to be around. Atmosphere and decor gives a cheerful and warm vibe. Well done!

I'd been wanting to try this place and yesterday was the day. My son took me out for dinner and it was amazing!
We were greeted with a smile and patience while we took a look at the day's selections. I decided on spicy beef egusi and soon opted for smoked jerk chicken. We both decided on rice as the go with.
It was absolutely, hands down delicious. And the portions were enormous. I ate my fill and then split what was left with my son to take home. I have a full second meal out of it and so does he. He also took home half of his own.
And I can't say enough about how pleasant and welcoming the staff was, they made it a great experience. The atmosphere was basic but clean, there is outdoor seating available.

My husband Daryl and I ordered the spicy chicken egusi and fufu, with an order of banana bread. After our first bite we were both hooked. So many amazing flavors!!! Just thinking about the food now has my mouth watering. Also, we ordered delivery and it arrived right on time! We definitely recommend Immys to everyone!

First timer ordered $50 worth of food what I came for is served on a certain day which needs to be listed on website instead of making a 30 minure trip to be forced to order something different .curry beef seemed boiled over cooked and under Seasoned, Banana bread very dry, plantains not ripe dry and hard , fu fu was like flour and mash potatoes boiled in a ball, only thing good was Strawberry ginger juice, sambosas, and the jolaf rice. I was very disappointed I will never return or refer anyone.

I got the egusi and fufu. If you have ever had REAL African food you would know this is NOT it. Egusi should not be soupy, barley any egusi in the egusi. The fufu is not pounded yam. It tastes like water, flour and mashed potatoes. I’m new to Milwaukee and was eager to get African food cause where I from I eat it at least 3 times a week. Pineapple chicken?? Like come on now. Bring on the real traditional african food.

Went for the fufu and greens. Left with stew and jerk chicken…everything was excellent. I really appreciated the tasty greens that were not made with meat. The chapati was warm and delicious with my stew. Will visit again, really soon.

My first time having African food was here at this restaurant and I would 10/10 recommend and I sure will try again!! I placed my order through DoorDash I had the beefe egusi stew and Fried okra chicken stew and it was a town.The beef Egusi taste like an exotic spiced, grandmother made pot roast and I am a very picky eater I don’t eat too many different cuisines, but this one is top-tier. It really tasted like a really delicious pot roast. I even put some hot sauce on it. Lol. The staff is always writing cute, thank you notes on the bags and I really appreciate the friendly service it’s always love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you're looking for good takeout this place should be a go-to. The smells, the tastes, and the spices are all on point. If you're deciding between the white rice or the jollof, get the jollof. I love trying a variety of cuisines, and this place does not disappoint. As a sit-down establishment, it is very casual (even sit-down meals are served in takeout containers with plastic cutlery), but as quick bites go this is among the best.

I ordered through a delivery service the night before but never got my delivery. I'm leaving a good review to hopefully negate any negatives that may have been placed on their restaurants Uber account as an effect of me not knowing how to submit a claim through Uber. I submited it stating the items were missing, when I was trying to just submit a claim for it not arriving, the food cost were refunded, but the tip was not suggesting to me the restaurant was being held at fault. Regardless they're customer service before the driver picked up my order was in point, I've never had a restaurant call me about items they're out of and offer me a replacement(which would've cost more) it's ususally the drivers or they just show up without what I wanted. I was really hoping to try the food, I'm going to make a trip to the restaurant myself to pick up an order. The food was ready the moment they called me, which was seconds after I ordered. They were just waiting on my tea.

Immy's flawlessly went from a food truck to a brick and mortar and I couldn't be happier!

Went on a Thursday night recently and had an excellent experience. Service is counter style, where you can see daily available options along the line, and can pick out a main entree, type of rice and sides, and then you pay before you sit down.

Food highlights included:
Chicken Peanut Stew: it was full of flavor and not too sweet
Beef Eglusi: perfectly spiced and really good with Fufu (a mashed yam side)
Goat Curry: super tender and fall off the bone
Samosa: turkey one was perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with flavor inside

The restaurant ambiance is nice, they clearly keep it super clean and even though the chairs are plastic, they are good if you aren't sitting for more than 30 min.

Highly recommend a visit to Immy's, or even takeout! Lots of people got takeout while we were dining in.

It was so great. The guy waiting on us had all the knowledge. The downside was the stereo. They kept the music cranked. But aside from that I really like the turkey... I can't remember what it's called but I went up and got two more they were so delicious!! They were not spicy at all. Well as the jerk chicken was Way way spicy! But I just got a sample.
