We had a nice meal, my ribeye was a perfect MR, my wife’s grouper was also great. This was our first visit. I am a restaurant guy. My take away was that I think they should be charging around 10% more for the food quality and using that money to stabilize their staffing model…just my 2¢…we will come back

Not sure how this bar can get good reviews for service because our experience with the bar tender was on a whole level of bad attitude . And owners or workers letting very young kids run around the bar as a playground, does not qualify putting up a sign in the door that says “family business” !
My group came in to order drinks and food (cannot say if food is any good)but not after the bartender attitude . We left and went up the road and got 5 star service and food, plus ice cream bar @ the dock bar and grill.

Visited 10/4/2025. Three out of our four dinners were delicious and well prepared. The fourth dinner, a ribeye, was over cooked. When the server was informed, she told us they were too busy to cook another steak (?!) and said that if we weren’t happy with it they would take it off the bill. When paying the bill, the steak was not removed from the tab. When we pointed it out, she asked how much of the steak was eaten…making it seem as though the person who ordered the steak should have just gone without eating. Obviously our plates had been cleared from the table at that point, but I told her less than half the steak was eaten and we were offered a to-go box that we refused. Our server was one of the owners and while efficient, her manner was brusque. It was clear she didn’t want to comp the meal but when we pointed out again that the steak wasn’t cooked properly and we were told no replacement could be offered, she reluctantly agreed to take it off the bill. What could have been a really nice meal left a bitter aftertaste!

Always an excellent experience! Cocktails are fantastic — smoked Old Fashioned is a favorite. Potstickers are the perfect start, and dinners never disappoint: the honey balsamic glazed salmon with salad and roasted asparagus was amazing, the Friday fish fry walleye with rice pilaf was spot-on, and even the crab we added to share was outstanding.

Service is quick and friendly, and everything tastes deliciously homemade. We also love the personal touch from the owners’ daughter — she brings a little extra joy to each visit.

Everything we ordered was home made and fresh. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made their own butter. I had the full rack of lamb and they were the most tender I’ve ever had… anywhere. No lie. This place is a bit pricey but worth every penny. Can’t recommend it enough. Staff is super friendly.

We had an amazing family dinner here this summer, and although we have been near here every summer for decades we had never been. We had cheese curds, walleye fingers, soup, salads, steak, fish fry, crab legs, and salmon. Everyone said their food was amazing! The homemade soup that day was one of the best I’d ever had (and my kid said the same 😱) Thank you for giving us a fun Friday night with family memories, and a new place to look forward to eating in the Northwoods!

We’ve been to JB’s many times, and every single visit has been a great experience. We know there’s usually going to be a wait, but we plan for it because the food is absolutely worth it. The soup is out of this world and has become one of our favorites to recommend to friends and family.

What really makes it great is the family atmosphere. We feel completely comfortable bringing our kids here( this is hard to find). It’s such a relaxed, friendly place. At the same time, it’s also one of our favorite spots for just the two of us to sneak away for a date night. We’ve never once left disappointed.

The Shack has outstanding food. Probably the best reuben sandwich I've ever had, it was just superb. Don't let the name fool you; it's clean and well-appointed inside with a cool Northwoods vibe. The "cook" is an honest-to-God chef, classically trained I think. He and his wife are the proprietors (she is also a server and bartender), and their passion for excellent food and service is reflected in every aspect of the dining experience. Expect an appropriate attention to detail and commensurate wait time for real, top quality food prepared from scratch by a professional. Go to McDonald's if you want fast food. If you want to relax with a fine cocktail or craft beer before a delicious meal, go to the Shack. Go early for Saturday prime rib as it sells out, and I assure you you do want to get the prime rib.

Pleasantly surprised! The drinks were delicious, the smoky old fashioned came with a toasted marshmallow! , great Pinot noir wine .

There was a waiting line bit soon , they gave us seats at the bar and 15 mins later our table was ready .

They were super busy so it took 40 mins for the food to come but we knew it was going to be worth it .

The chicken wild rice soup was delightful!!

We all had steaks. They were tender , juicy, buttery , the sides were divine . The waitresses were excellent, the price was fair. This place should be a supper club !!

This place is the hidden gem. I'm completely astonished by how good the food was. Whoever's, cooking is gifted. The chicken rice soup was probably the best soup I've ever had. The steak was perfect. The whole meal was actually. We will definitely return. I'm so grateful to have discovered this place.

My only suggestion is that they could have some softer lighting in the dining area. Warmer lights with lampshades. Maybe that would be the one thing I changed to make it absolutely perfect.

My wife loved the campfire old fashioned with the flaming marshmallow.

A surprise lunch place. The Walleye app was lightly coated and fried. With a homemade tartar sauce. It was delicious. I had a garden salad to go with it; with chipotle ranch dressing (also home made). My husband had a BLT that was a solid 5– and look at those homemade fries! No out of the freezer. It took a couple of years but we finally found the time to stop in on the UTV. Reminded us somewhat of a supper club with the decor and how it's laid out. Had very high hopes for this place, but was unfortunately very disappointed. I had the lemon pepper shrimp which had ZERO flavor. The baked potato was pretty hard. My boyfriend had the ribeye which was okay, but still was lacking flavor. Again, hard baked potato. Our waitress was very distracted as there were two small children running around and screaming almost our whole visit. Not worth the $90 we paid :(

This place was great. Went in and the place was packed and unfortunately understaffed. However they managed to pull together a table for our large group of ten. Waitress was kind and friendly. Mussels and clams appetizer for the table. My husband was skeptical about ordering mussels for appetizers but at the end he loved it anyways. They all have good flavors.
Most of us ordered walleye dinner special for that day. All the different flavors was to the liking of every each of us who ordered different spices. The tartar sauce was really good and it did complimented with the walleye. The rice had good flavor but it was a bit too wet. My mom ordered Reuben sandwich and she loved it. The fries needed a little more frying as she stated but it has good flavor as well.
We all ordered cocktails and everything was great and had ample amount of alcohol in it.

Service was great, our server was very attentive to us and provided us a good service for 10 people. She was great in suggestive selling.

The ambience on the place was cool, it did fit the cabin look inside and outside. Place was pack when we came and needed us to wait to sit 10 people. The air conditioning system wasnt working that made it a little too warm with so much people in there.

Overall, we agreed we’ll definitely visit it again when were up in the area.

Beautiful rehab of the old Charlie’s. The food is unbelievable in presentation and quality. A true gem in the Northwoods. My only qualm is the bartender/server. We’ve been in here several times over the past 2 years and not once have I felt like she’s wanted us there. We are treated more of an inconvenience than a patron. If the chefs’ wife is at the forefront of the business, she should smile, make eye contact, and make her customers feel like they’re wanted. She’s the only thing keep this from a 5 star review.

A hidden gem, for sure! We were out for a drive and stumbled upon this place. We initially were going to have a quick appetizer and keep driving, but their menu looked too good to pass up. Came upon The Shack randomly when we were staying very close by at a Cabin on Moose Lake. We pulled in for happy hour on a Thursday afternoon and had a delicious onion bloom, crab wontons and the absolute best hand-dipped cheese curds. Trust, we have had our fair share of Wisconsin cheese curds. There was an entire “hand-dipped” section of the menu, which was very much appreciated. We decided to make a reservation for the Friday night fish fry and it did not disappoint. The walleye was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was one of the best our family has tried. The homemade tartar sauce was “top one” ever. Do not at me on that. It’s facts. The pizza, drinks, beer selection, and atmosphere was top notch. Leann the owner and server made us feel like when we were there, we were family. This is a place that if you are hunting and fishing in Wisconsin, you will want to try.

Stumbled upon this place during 2023 CHARAC Art Crawl. Came for a late lunch. Ordered the mussels appetizer, then thought "oops...maybe should have ordered something more Northwoods Bar-like". Although it was a very attractive facility there was not enough seating area to eat. The bar was much larger than the eating area. There are only 7-8 tables and the rest is bar seating. They filled up pretty quickly and there were several large groups coming in when we left. The staff was not very attentive. I had shrimp which unfortunately was almost to the point of burnt. Although the meat of it was ok. My husband had the Walleye which seems to be their specialty which was also to the point of being burnt. He had a lime/cilantro side of rice which was cold. I did ask the waitress if is was supposed to be warm she said yes but no apologies. In my mind for what was served they are way overpriced. I finally had to ask for the bill and even that took a while. We will not go back.

I have been visiting Moose Lake for summer and winters for over a decade and it is great to have a new place to eat and drink on the Lake, well close to the Lake. My first visit was on a Friday during snowmobile season and the restaurant was packed, which is great to see. We had the walleye special and a couple of drinks. Food was very good and served in a timely matter. Staff was very good. Nice to see the owners getting their hands dirty serving food and drinks. Cannot wait to go back when its less crowded to get to talk to them.

Loved this place! All the industrial touches were fantastic! It was clean and smelled good, owner was super friendly and food was GREAT! I only gave it a 4 because I don’t eat beef or seafood, so, it really only left me a salad for my food choice, since I also don’t do grains, so, pizza wasn’t gonna work. The rest of my party loved the foods they had. I did taste my husbands pizza and it was wonderful. Would love to see more options next year for those of us on a bit stricter diet plan and maybe a cauliflower pizza crust 😃. We are going back again tonight so the rest of my group can try more of the foods.

So, now I’ve gotta add that I didn’t know what the pork prime rib was, so, didn’t know if I could or would eat it, but, IT WAS FANTASTIC! others had the beef prime rib and a burger and everyone was very happy!!!!!

I was in the area this weekend with my girlfriend and this place was recommended to us from our wonderful bartender Pam at Dows and WOW was this the best place we had been together possibly ever! The king cut beef prime rib will leave your mouth watering and wondering how they perfected the seasoning and marinading that was put into the dish. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were fresh and also very well prepared. We decided to start with the blooming onion that was amazing! It was nice to see the owners both working there, the owner that took care of us was very friendly and made great drinks. Overall a great spot to get some food and drinks if you are in the area! While spending the 4th of July weekend on Moose Lake my husband and I decided to try out this place for dinner and drinks. There also happened to be live music which was fabulous!
The fried pickles were THE BEST I’ve ever had and the buffalo chicken pizza was super yummy!
The service was wonderful and the vodka tonics were strong and tasty!
We will definitely return next time we’re at the cabin and we’ve already told our friends and family that they need to check this place out!!!

This place is amazing! What a find in the middle of the woods! The food was fabulous, the staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is super comfortable! We had pizza, fried pickles and crab wonton. All were made from scratch and delicious. Can't wait to go back there!

This place is amazing from the staff to the food. I always look for a good Reuben and they didn’t disappoint, one of the best I’ve had. Did I mention the homemade crab wontons? The best I’ve had anywhere and I’ve had a lot over the years in the cities. Visit, you won’t be disappointed
