Anniversary dinner on a Friday night, they fit us in on short notice considering they had two very large parties already scheduled. Very nice atmosphere considering you are in a hotel, don’t let that sway your decision it’s very nice. Sat us at a nice table, ordered some drinks and then dinner. We were both very happy with the filet’s. I also added mushrooms which were practically a meal itself 😂. Service was great and the bill did not break the bank. I would recommend trying Johnny’s if you are in the area.

We were rolling in from a long day of driving. We expected the usual hotel food, but were unexpectedly surprised that Johnny’s was there. What a special place. Atmosphere is good, although it wasn't busy when we were there. The important takeaways are, steak is best medium rare, which is how I order mine. I ordered the 6 oz filet, it was medium to medium well. My husband ordered New York strip and was dissatisfied, said it was gristly. Also, the sausage bread was very cold so we asked for it to be heated and what came back didn't even look like bread. Very burnt. Wish I could post a picture! My 2 cocktails were pretty good, as were the ravioli and calamari appetizers. Will not go back for steak, but maybe lunch with friends.

She did not come back around? Found another person after I had to get up from our booth w/walker to head towards bar area, not in the bar tho, to find someone. She finally came back by us about 10 min After speaking w/the gentleman & informed us the bartenders cannot make our drinks now for "awhile" because a party/group of ppl came in & the bartenders are attending to them? I'm like what, seriously? We cannot get another drink/beverage - we've been there since 7pm & it was now after 9pm. It was my husband's Birthday (dinner) we wanted to take our time & have a nice romantic dinner together. So with us being there spending $200 already on mostly food w/drinks, we were being told we have to wait "awhile" & she didn't know when it would be before we could get another.. I just found it very odd to be informed that, so I told her to just bring the bill. Afterwards, heading out my husband decided to let's have 1 nightcap before heading home so we went back & into the bar. I ordered us a beverage & informed the woman bartender what the wait staff told us and she shook her head in wonderment & disbelief...made our drinks immediately 👍 (Plus there were 2 bartenders working that evening) maybe she, the wait staff, took a break while having customers to tend too, no idea?

My wife and I had gone in here for date night to give this place a chance as we had never been here before. Our food was amazing and the service we encountered was even better ! Callie was amazing. Very attentive and on point with everything! She made sure our drinks were always full and made sure our steak and the rest of our food was cooked perfectly! No complaints at all! My family came in tonight and it was wonderful! We’ve been here at least 5x in the last year and love it every time. Usually I get the carbonara but tonight I had the stroganoff and it was amazing! The meat was so tender. My boyfriend got the beef Wellington (as usual) he absolutely loved it.

Just a fyi we have gotten the sampler spread from the appetizer menu one of our times here and it’s massive! I assumed it was very small portions but it’s not (not a bad thing but just so you know lol).

I always forget to leave a good review but our server Kayla was so great that I had to leave a review this time!

I would have to say, lackluster at best. Service was lagging severely. For 3 bartenders behind the bar, unfortunately not one ever asked me if I wanted anything. With a bartender to rail ratio of 1/3. Each step of the way had to be prompted. Pasta was good, but the salad had no dressing, the salmon dip tasted old and was watery. After eating and stacking my plates in heap in front of me, it was 10 minutes before anyone picked them up ( and still left some). I was really hoping for more. Maybe even a friendly “ how is everything”, or some type of warmth from the staff. As a 25 year restaurant veteran, I take writing review pretty seriously, but this team needs some coaching.

We loved the dinner here. Every single food item that we tried was very flavorful and mouth watering. Who knew that mashed potatoes could be so delicious and garlicky? The steak was a burst of spices and flavor as well.

Unexpectedly nice dinning experience located within the Hilton, Sun Prairie.
The atmosphere was quiet, refined. The service was very good while being laid back, almost invisible. Everyone in our small group was pleased with our food and the martini I had was expertly prepared.
This was my 1st time there while my daughter had been there before. There is no doubt I will be returning in the near future.

Cheers to our server Stephanie! She was very attentive and made great suggestions on what to order. The sea scallops with the brussels sprout slaw was fabulous, the crabcakes were OK. They could’ve had more crab in them and less filling. The halibut was wonderful. The brussels sprouts were great. I had the large fillet mignon and I would say it was OK. I ordered it medium but to me, it was dried out, not juicy like I’ve had in the past at different restaurants, but other than that, the service was phenomenal. Stephanie did a great job.

My family and I went here to celebrate a family event. Unfortunately I had the worst steak I have ever had in my life.

Aside from the salad and appetizers, I ordered a 11oz cut, and I said I wanted it "warm and bloody" rare. I also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes.

The salad and calamari were excellent, but my steak was cooked medium, and it had very little juice or flavor. A good portion of it was also gristle. I only took maybe 3 bites. I would have continued eating, but my mashed potatoes were lukewarm on the sides and cold in the center. This was insult to injury, so I sent back my plate with a request to have a new steak cooked how I had ordered it.

A few minutes later a supervisor (or someone who was a non-waiter) came back and handed me my plate back. They had heated up the mashed potatoes, but he refused to get me a new cut of meat cooked rare; claiming they "could not" cook an 11oz cut warm and bloody. That's a blatant lie, because I ordered the same meal at my previous visit, and it was cooked perfectly. Regardless, he didn't fix the problem, nor did he even offer a simple apology; though to be fair our waiter was very nice and apologetic.

I ended up leaving about a quarter of the steak on my plate because it was so bad, and I didn't finish the mashed potatoes either.

So Johnny's: next time when my family and I go out for steak, we're going to Texas Roadhouse right down the road. My experience tonight was soured by a $40 meal that was subpar, and an unhelpful, seemingly smug employee that made no effort what-so-ever to make us feel like welcomed guests.

Great job on the customer service, and congrats at being so successful that you can choose to alienate repeat or continued patronage.

This was our first time at this location. The only pleasant experience was our waitress on Monday night. Very attentive and friendly.

The most important part - food and all of it was bad. Not that it was not fresh it was simply cooked badly. I believe the cedar salad was best of it. Which is only lettuce and dressing. Both steaks rib eye and the crusted Parmesan New York strip were tasteless and charred quite a bit. Quite tough. One of the worst steamed I had. Outback steak house does it much better.

The Negroni was fine but not made right and was replaced. Still something was off.

Zucchini fries were ok but overstated in spot. I rather have it not salted and enjoy it that way. It kills the dish.

Finally the dessert tiramisu was looking delicious but we already had bad taste after the entire meal so was not a surprise that the dessert was a failure as well. The chef must be very bad at his job. The top layer of the generous piece was so unpleasantly buttery not in a tasty way. The true tetanus had fluffy cloud like cream not here. Overall disappointed after being excited to dine in. $120 later per person and all we can do is to leave this review.

Overall the place is very comparable and welcoming. Well organized and decorated. Seating was also nice but what matters in restaurant is food and service. One of them was not good at all.

Our first anniversary, front of house was nice and so was our waitress. Wife said the lasagna was good and gave it 4/5 stars. Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend the sirloin, ordered mine medium rare and the cook was perfect but the outside was charred so it tasted burnt with every bite and the potatoes were luke warm. One of the most elegant places me and my wife have ever dined at. The food was amazing. They have curtains surrounding your table if you want privacy. This location was inside a Hilton Hotel but they did not skimp on the ambience. Hands down 5 stars and would recommend for any date nights.

Update 10/5/24- came here for our 1 year anniversary dinner. Portions seemed bigger. Took plenty home with us. Only got Bruschetta and Calamari this time. Bruschetta was missing the balsamic glaze. Had to ask. Waitress was all over the place tonight. Didnt seem too busy but may have been helping in more private rooms? Not really sure what was going on there. Semeed pretty rushed. I genuinely don’t understand how there are any bad reviews for this restaurant. My co worker and I stayed at the hotel the restaurant is attached to for a work trip. We went to Johnnys originally just for convenience with it being attached to our hotel and now we will be making the trip back just to go to the restaurant. We ended up going twice on our trip. It was the BEST food I have ever had. I normally don’t finish a full meal, but I ate every last piece of food on my plate every time.. even down to the house salad. 1000000/10. The service was also incredible both times. Every employee was so kind and personable which just added to the experience. The pricing is what you would expect at a steakhouse, but worth every penny. My co worker and I have still been talking about how we cannot wait to go back!

Our recent dinner at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse was an awesome dining experience. From the cozy curtain table to the stellar service, it was one of those nights that just left you smiling.
Ali, our server, was an absolute gem. She greeted my sister and me with a big smile and made us feel at home. Ali knew the menu inside and out, and her recommendations were spot-on. It was clear she genuinely cared about making our meal memorable. We both had Johnny’s Fillet Medallion Trio. There were three perfectly cooked filets in a rich demi-glace sauce, each topped with its unique crust—horseradish, Gorgonzola, and parmesan. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the crusts added a delightful kick of flavor that took the dish to a new level. You must try this dish if you're a steak lover like us.

Big shoutout to Jeff, the manager on duty, too. He was everywhere, making sure everything ran smoothly. He took pride in the place, which showed in his interactions with all the guests.
But what really made the night special was the combination of great food and fantastic service. Ali and Jeff went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time, which definitely paid off. We left Johnny’s feeling happy and satisfied with a truly memorable dining experience.

My family chooses Johnny's Italian restaurant for special occasions. Last night was mother's day. It was not crowded, which surprised us.

Three of the four of us (my husband and both sons) ordered Caesar salad, I ordered the goat cheese salad. The three Caesar salads were delivered and were eaten, and I still hadn't received my goat cheese salad. When we asked our server, she told me it wasn't a standard salad, so would be coming with my entree. (??)

I ordered the filet as my entree and the risotto as a side. The server came back and told me they were out of the risotto, so I ordered the skillet potatoes. She came back again and told me they were also out of the potatoes, so I ordered the asparagus. (I would think that, before opening, if the kitchen were out of certain items they would not be on the menu.)

My son ordered NY steak, well done, and lobster mac and cheese as a side. His steak came well done with asparagus instead of mac and cheese.

We received numerous apologies and were offered a free dessert (which we did nit order) and half off our bill. Worst experience ever at your normally wonderful restaurant.

Recently went to a dinner event at Johnny's. This was my first time going there. I'm a bread lover and although the bread was good, it did not come with butter, but instead flavorless oil. The salad came with a dressing I didn't choose, and I didn't care for it. The filet mignon was overcooked, not hot, and lacking flavor. The mashed potatoes were good though. However, the veggies on the side were mushy and flavorless. There were others at my table that ordered salmon, and said it tasted like they forgot to season it. The atmosphere was nice though. When we left and got in the car, I asked my husband what he thought, and he confirmed my opinions.

Picked this restaurant for a special celebratory dinner -- there is a high-end vibe and the food was good, but serving size varied widely for similarly-priced entrees. For >$50/person, we didn't expect to have to ask for bread when none had been served by the time our entrees arrived, our water glasses were never refilled and drink refill orders never taken, we were up-charged $5 to swap one entree's included side salad for a tiny cup of soup, and our two diners with birthdays were each offered a complimentary "half slice" of cheesecake (just call it a "slice"!).

Horrible experience service sucks the waitress was not friendly at all the waitress was very friendly to the guests that were behind us I was like wow we did no get that type of service the busser was the only one that was friendly and has great customer service when the food got to us it was cold
I was so disappointed this was my husband birthday and our first time there 🤦‍♀️

Great spot for a nice dinner in Sun Praire. Boomers be complaining about wait times, but they forget it is in a hotel so when the hotel is sold out the restaurant gets very busy. Be considerate of that and the food will be worth the wait.

All the food from appetizer through dessert was delicious and perfectly cooked. Waitress Liz was professional and courteous to make the dining experience a great one in spite of our table ticket being delayed. We will be back to try the beef wellington

Ordered a med steak specified pink no red. Waiter agreed. Received raw, sent back, came back raw again sent back, came back well ate 2 bites and SOME potatoes and they gave me an $8 credit on a $38 steak I ate almost none of. Very disappointed as most of it should have been comp. My husband liked his but when that bill over $100 (with the discount) it was hard to swallow leaving hungry.

The service is always really good. They provide great bread, I had wine, which was good, and we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, cheesy and decadent. I got a pasta dish and was satisfied. This time one of out party got the crusted steak and shrimp: the steak was top sirloin and I know this can be a tough, chewy cut, but I would have assumed it would be prepared it in a way that would make it as tender as possible. It wasn't. The flavor was good, but the meat was so hard to cut and chew. She said it wasn't worth the effort. The thing is, another party got the chubby cut, top sirloin, and it was prepared perfectly. Each steak was medium rare and thick. I guess the moral of the story is that there isn't a lot of consistency. Be safe, choose either a tender cut or go with the pasta, because when you pay $50 plus for dinner, you want to be happy with your choice.

Wanted to have a couple of drinks and dinner at the bar…sadly ended up having to listen to a group of very obnoxious men, dropping f bombs and discussing where the closest strip clubs are located. Very disappointing, given the menu, anticipated atmosphere and prices. The bartender did absolutely nothing with this group that was either over served, or just ignorant and obnoxious. Definitely will Uber to a different restaurant next trip to Madison.

We were seated and sat there 15 to 20 minutes without anyone coming to wait on us. We got up and walked out. This is not what I would expect from what looked like a nice place to eat. Someone saw us walking out and when we told her we were leaving and why, she asked if we had been seated we told her yes. The only other thing she said was that she was sorry. VERY disappointed

I only ate the breakfast buffet here, whilst staying at the very pleasant Hilton Garden Inn Sun Prairie. The food was quite good but the server, Nataliya, was just wonderful! She has a great sense of humor and she got my whole morning going on such a pleasant and positive note!! She was also very helpful and intent on making my breakfast the best it could be! It was possibly the best service I have ever had in any restaurant, and I eat out a lot! I would also recommend the buffet, which was very fresh, tasty, well displayed, clean and with several options, ie. eggs with cheese or plain (real eggs) and breakfast potatoes, plain or with steak & onions, amongst several other items. It is a good deal, at $13.95, and highly recommended. I hope you will also be able to meet Nataliya! She will make your morning!!

We arrived a little after 5:00 on a Monday. The dining room was almost empty. The service and atmosphere were wonderful. The steaks were done to perfection for each of us. The bread, salad and potatoes were very good. We each added a cup of French onion soup, a great way to start our meal.

My husband surprised me with our 19th year wedding anniversary diner here. 1st time customers. We were asked a number of times if there was a special occasion? We replied yes our anniversary celebration.
My meal of salmon & garlic potatoes was delicious. In the end, no consideration was given to our special occasion. Not a free drink, a cupcake. Just a hefty bill. Not likely to return.

We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Johnny’s in June 2023 and it was an amazing experience!

We had a room block at the Hilton Garden Inn and it was so convenient for our guests to be able to come down from their rooms to the restaurant on the first floor.

We rented out a space to host our rehearsal dinner for about 30 people and it was the perfect size. Communication with the staff leading up to the event was wonderful and the wait staff during our rehearsal dinner were excellent. We were able to select a menu for our group and all of the options were delicious!

We were a bit disappointed with our experience last night. When making reservations, I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. I indicated it was our 19th anniversary. Upon placing our order, we were again asked if it was a special occasion to which I gave the same response. No consideration was ever provided for our special occasion, so I would recommend not asking your patrons this question. Some acknowledgement would have been appropriate since it was brought up twice. My 6oz filet looked like a normal cut steak, not thick like all the others I've enjoyed in my life. We had heard great things about you folks, and maybe we got an "off" night, but unfortunately, there isn't a reason for us to visit again.

Delicious food. End cuts of prime ribs cooked to perfection. The center cut could have been cooked a little more. The shrimp display could have been presented nicer but that could have been because of all the previous customers going through the line before us. The many varieties of breakfast potatoes were great. The sausage and bacon cooked to perfection.
