I love this place good food every time! open later than a lot of places downtown. Today’s (Saturday September 27th at 3:30 pm) experience was awkward because the 2 girls taking orders made me question if I will come back…they got 3 peoples orders wrong (which happens, totally fine) and then proceeded to complain about the customers who said something about it within earshot. Instead of just moving on and fixing things they would argue back, “I didn’t write down that order I wrote down this..” please stop arguing and complaining to/about your paying customers 😁

Best Root Beer Floats Anywhere!!!
Ultimate Chilli cheese fries are my hands down favorite. Love the high-school kids working. Family owned. Heck what's not to love. Thinking of this place will always remind me of home.

First time here. Came with a friend. Passed by a few times and always wanted to stop — today was the day. It's a small, cute-looking drive-in. The place looks well cared for.

Got greeted by a nice young woman. I ordered the root beer float, and he got the Black Cow. They use Cedar Crest Ice Cream, which I think is high quality. The float came in a glass mug and looked amazing — and it tasted excellent. To me, the Black Cow looked a bit watery (overmixed), but he enjoyed it.

It was rainy, and we got the only picnic table that was covered. There were plenty of other picnic tables on the grassy areas across the parking lot.

Don't know much about the food, but would definitely come back for the root beer float.

Absolutely Delicious & Nostalgic! ✨✨✨✨

John’s Drive-In is a hidden gem that hits all the right notes. I had the taco hot dogs and a mug of their famous root beer, and it was everything I didn’t know I was craving! The taco dogs were packed with flavor messy in the best way and the root beer? Served in an old-fashioned glass mug, ice cold and perfectly sweet. The whole experience made me feel like I’d stepped back in time in the best way. If you’re anywhere near, do yourself a favor and stop by. This place is the real deal.

The customer service was fantastic friendly, fast, and welcoming. The food came out quickly and fresh. There’s outdoor seating, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Between the tasty food, great vibes, and that refreshing root beer, we love this place!

Highly recommend if you’re craving something simple, satisfying, and full of charm!

Been here twice in the last few weeks. In each visit I ordered a chocolate malt ( only). Both times there were quit a few ice chunks in them. Also, a chunk of malt powder clugged the straw. I like the fact that they serve Cedar Crest ice cream but… they must have a problem with thawing and re freezing. At $6.50 not a good product or value. FWIW the place is very clean. I will still try them again because people I know are very satisfied. Better luck for me next time.

What the heck, never had a less than amazing meal at John's until today. Hot dog looked and tasted like it was right out of the package and the bun was like glued to the paper such that I wound up with 1/2 bun. Onion rings soggy and tasted different, weird, oreida comes to mind. Sloppy joe was luke warm and runny with no flavor. I googled the drive in to see if it had been sold recently. Couldn't find anything. Interestingly enough it was after 2 not many cars and no one in line when I ordered. Hmmmm sign of the times. I'm done.

Taking my allergy kid places is tough, so while in town- we stopped at my fiancé’s favorite childhood spot.. the root beer stand!

While there, we ordered with Jessie- she was so pleasant and thorough when asking about allergens. (Side note- they do have a separate fryer for fries, just make sure to ask!!)
Everything we ordered was super good- we had nacho dogs, pulled pork, fries, cheese curds (sooo good btw!)- and of course root beer!

We love it here, and will definitely stop again when in town!

"It's John's"
Like Jimmy's Grotto, a Waukesha staple, and for good reason. Ownership has changed hands since I first started going here "back in the day" (1950s). It was a A&W early on, and in 1974 went independent.

This was by far the worst place I've eaten at in Wisconsin. Everything was way more expensive than should be. The Curds only had like 10 in my order, if that and they were terrible. The chili cheese dog was so bad I still have nightmares about it. Chili was terrible, hot dog was like uncooked rubber, even the cheese sauce was gross. I had a bad enough experience that I haven't been able to forget it and won't go back. Heard good about the fish plate but that's it, everything I ordered was worse than bad.

My fiancé and I have been coming here for years. We just went back again today, and the prices went up substantially and the quality has gone down… my cheese curds were my favorite, and now they almost doubled in price and you get about half.:.. and now they are served like someone sat on them:.. we unfortunately will NOT be returning anymore. The root beer use to be AMAZING and worth the money… now the price has gone up again almost $10 a gallon, and the flavor is basically gone… so sad to see one of our favorite places going down hill!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Jhon's Root Beer Stand, a delightful establishment that left me thoroughly impressed with their refreshing root beer and outstanding customer service. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this place had something special to offer.

First and foremost, the root beer served at Jhon's Root Beer Stand was absolutely fantastic. It had a rich, creamy flavor that was both nostalgic and satisfying. The root beer was perfectly carbonated, striking a balance between effervescence and smoothness. Each sip was a delightful experience, and it complemented the hot dogs and other treats available on the menu perfectly.

However, what truly made my visit memorable was the exceptional service provided by Manny, one of the stand's outstanding employees. From the moment I approached the counter, Manny greeted me with a warm smile and a genuine enthusiasm for his work. His knowledge of the menu and the different root beer options was impressive, and he was more than willing to offer recommendations based on my preferences.

Manny's attention to detail was evident as he carefully prepared my root beer, ensuring that it was served at the perfect temperature with just the right amount of foam. He took the time to explain the unique qualities of Jhon's Root Beer and even shared some fascinating trivia about its history. Manny's passion for the root beer craft shone through, and it elevated the overall experience, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere.

Not only was Manny efficient in taking and preparing orders, but he also went above and beyond to make each customer feel valued. He engaged in friendly conversations, making me feel like a regular customer even though it was my first visit. Manny's dedication to providing exceptional service was evident as he promptly addressed any questions or concerns I had, ensuring that I had a memorable time at Jhon's Root Beer Stand.

In conclusion, Jhon's Root Beer Stand exceeded my expectations in every way. The refreshing and flavorful root beer, combined with the friendly and attentive service provided by Manny, made it a truly delightful experience. I highly recommend visiting Jhon's Root Beer Stand and experiencing the exceptional service firsthand. Manny's dedication and passion for his work are truly commendable and add an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall experience.

Came here for the first time with my daughter today while we were in the area looking for somewhere to eat. We ordered a hot dog, Italian sausage, fries and a rootbeer. The hot dog and the Italian sausage was terribly bland and tasted like they both were left in boiling water all day. The sausage was super soft, almost falling apart and had a single piece of green pepper, also incredibly soft with no flavor like it had also sat in a water bath all day. Not to mention the marinara on it had ZERO flavor. The hot dog was a weird color (like yellowish/light brown - never seen a hot dog that color before!) My daughter took one bite and was like "Nope!" Their "famous" rootbeer was not cold and was almost flat. 😳 The only positives were that the fries were crispy and the girl that took our order was nice. We wanted to get ice cream after our meal but after our experience, we ended up going to Oscars down the street.

Root beer was unfortunately the only thing that was deserving of 5 stars… the hotdogs themselves were nothing to write home about very bland and basic the kraut and slaw Although flavorful was definitely not worth the money for the little amount given the chili cheese was run of the mill… cheese curds we’re soft and oily fry’s we’re about the same… would go back for root beer or a root beer float but definitely not to eat a overpriced hotdog

Just stopped for the first time. Don't trust the bad reviewz. This place is great. I ordered a pulled pork BBQ sandwhich, deep fried mushrooms, and a large root beer. The total was a little over 12$. The sandwhich wasn't enormous, but it was delicious. The mushrooms had a perfect crisp to the breading and weren't over or undercooked. The rootbeer is delicious, in a world of mazzively over-carbonated beverages, the light carbonation and smooth full taste of their roorbeer was excellent. Will definitely return to try more of their menu. The young woman who took my order was also fantastic, answered all my questions and her attitude was fun and upbeat. All in all, a fantastic experience.

I threw it away not a big deal let the girl know that it was warm she said she'd look into it. How can they be pouring all day and not realize it's it doesn't make any sense to me. Sandwich was very very awful french fries not good. The first experience will be the last experience.

Pulled Pork is my fav. Fries always crisp...never soggy. 👍🏻
