Jose’s Authentic Mexican absolutely exceeded our expectations! On short notice, they were able to cater a delicious buffet of chicken and steak fajitas with all the fixings, from beans and rice to toppings and shells. The food was a total hit and incredibly delicious! We enjoyed leftovers for days and loved every bite.

Working with Jose himself was such a treat. He was personable, accommodating, and genuinely wanted to make our day special, and he did just that. He and his team worked perfectly within our time frame and had everything set up and ready to go by the time we arrived at our reception. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience or a better meal!

Was there on 9/12 food was good, but the waiter never came back after he dropped off the food. My dear wife had to go get our own doggy bags and finally after he watched her do that he came over and asked if we needed anything. I have heard about this place from many people so I took the hour drive. By far the best Mexican meal I have ever had. The steak in my chimichanga was flavorful beyond my expectations. Something happened to this restaurant? There are quite a few options for Mexican in the Dells area. We chose to come to Baraboo Jose's because that was the best we drove all the way from Lyndon Station just to get what we used to call the best Mexican food in the area. We had dinner at Jose's June 28th 2025 food quality was not what it used to be some items we're okay others cold service was marginal had to ask for refills food was cold when we mentioned it to our server he was not apologetic did nothing to make it right for us just stated that they make everything fresh which is hard to believe because the tortillas were dry and cold service was slow and after the meal was served no one came over to check how things were. We will no longer be making the trip all that way for substandard food and service. And that's a shame because this used to be five star in my book and now it's a one

Jose's used to be great! The place to go to for decent Mexican food. The last couple times I was there, I didn't think they were great. Decided to give them one more try and it was horrible. We had our food in like 3 minutes which proves nothing was fresh. My chimichanga was soft and meat tasted funky. Lettuce tasted old. It was just yuck. So I will not be going again.

We love this place. We came for the first time in Saturday night and had such a wonderful experience. Today is Tuesday and we went to the House on the Rock and planned to go eat somewhere else. However driving back we saw there billboard and said we had to come back one more time before we headed back home. We ordered takeout from Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in Baraboo, Wisconsin: three chicken and cheese enchiladas (Enchiladas Suizas) and one burrito. The food was pretty basic. The chicken lacked seasoning, and the burrito was just average.

What was most disappointing was that the enchiladas, priced at $17 as entrées, didn’t come with rice and beans. Since these are standard accompaniments for most Mexican dishes, we assumed they would be included. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize this until we got home with our order. Perhaps I should’ve read the menu more carefully, but it wasn’t something we expected to have to check.

Being from Chicago, where the Mexican food scene is highly competitive, even small kiosks include rice and beans with similar orders. This difference was surprising and left us underwhelmed.

For these reasons, I’m giving three stars.

We ordered our foods and after 20 minutes, I am noticing that two tables came in after us and they were being served. I asked our waiter what’s the delay in our food and he apologized and went back to the kitchen for another 15 minutes came back and said there’s a big party here and we are very very sorry, but we’re going to bring your food out. We waited another 20 minutes for the food and when the food did come out, the food was cold. The chicken fajitas was not sizzling and my enchiladas were cold. The waiter came out and said he was very sorry. The meal is on them and I told him that they can take the food back. Their reason for the delay was because they had a big party and they were tending to the bigger party which is unfortunate because I did not see other people waiting for their food. We waited 50 minutes for cold food that’s unacceptable.

The service was great, though our server didn't speak English. We asked him about a place in the area and he didn't understand. He brought someone else over, and she didn't understand either. But he was insistent on helping us and finally was able to give us suggestions. He went over and above considering his being unable to understand us.

I wanted to try something new, so I landed here with my significant other. I had a good feeling I was about to be pleased.

We were greeted and seated immediately. The booth we were seated at was comfortable. We were given complimentary chips and two different salsas. One salsa was red and thick. The other salsa was white and more of a thin liquid. All of it was great. It was all even better with salt and pepper. We even got another complimentary red salsa and chips. I tried them the same way and they were way better for some reason.

From the House Blend Margaritas section, we ordered a Small Frozen Original Lime for 7.99 and a Small On The Rocks Original Lime for 7.99. The Frozen was hard to drink at first with it being so cold. The salt and lime on the rim helped. I enjoyed this drink, but it was definitely better after it melted a bit. The On The Rocks was fantastic! The salt and lime on the rim amplified the flavor. From the Beverages section, Pepsi Products were 3.50. I went with a Diet Pepsi. It was tasty and so was the free refill.

From the Burritos section, I ordered the Burrito De Carne Asada. It was 7oz of steak burrito served with rice & beans. Topped with red sauce, cheese sauce, lettuce, pico de gallo, & sour cream. It was 14.99. I was surprised how fast it came out. The size was fair for the price it was. The steak overflowed out of the burrito after the first cut. This thing was full of flavor. The rice & beans were decent. I was pleased with the whole ensemble.

The service started off great and then became spotty. It ended up picking up towards the end and finished off strong.

Overall, I’m glad I stopped here to try it out. Everything was tasty and worth what I paid. I would probably come back again.

Absolutely amazing! Jose's is the best. Came here while visiting family and even though we had a group we were immediately seated. The staff was very prompt and courteous. Our drinks and appetizers came out very quickly and the food was also very fast. The food was very fresh and everything tasted great. I heard they grow their own vegetables at a local farm. The portions were enormous for the price we paid; half of our group took home leftovers. We all shared a fried ice cream, which was delicious. Boy have things gone down hill here. Mid afternoon for a quick bite. The music was so loud we were shouting until it was finally turned down at our request. Our waiter only showed up when we yelled for him. The lunch plate was so so and the chef should have been ashamed to put out the shrimp tacos. I’m Mexican and I was really disappointed by this “authentic” Mexican restaurant, you’re better off going to Taco Bell than here. I went with 4 other people and none of us like the different dishes we ordered. Tacos were not actual tacos, the red enchiladas tasted like the tortilla was soaked in marinara sauce, and NONE of the meat had flavor. They charged for every extra thing we needed, like lime, I’m surprised they charge us for the napkins. Don’t recommend.

Been coming here every few years when I'm in the Dells area. Always glad that I come. I got the especial el vallarta fajitas. Such a big portion for 18.99 and I took a lot back with me even though I am a big eater. A lot of places cost more for a fraction of the portions. Best part of the meal was talking with the owner, Jose. Such a nice man and was eager to talk and joke with customers and tell me more about the history of his restaurant and how they prepare some of the dishes. Will be back for more that is a certainty!

I have gone to Joses on and off for years. The Baraboo location has steadily gone down in my opinion. The Dells location is really good. So maybe to many locations to focus on. I have never eaten at the sauk location but people seem to like it. I love the buffet at the casino! At the Baraboo location, The salsa tasted not great. Chips came out cold and stale and my chicken wasn't cooked all the way through so when I took a bite, I had to run to the restroom and throw up. The food was mediocre. No flavor really. The margaritas were strong and tasty. The waitress was super lovely.
