Won't be back. Food has been going downhill, last night was the worst meal I've ever had in my life at any restaurant. Wife and I had skirt steak shrimp burritos. Tasted like someone dumped a couple tablespoons of salt in it. Never had anything this salty. Wife ate less than one quarter of her meal, I managed to eat half of mine. Served with some very dry potatoes instead of beans and rice. Been there 3 times in the last month and it just keeps getting worse. Will never be back, shame used to be a nice little restaurant.

10/8/25: Jose's has no loyalty to its outstanding employees. The main reason my family and I eat here week after week is because 2 of their waitresses are outstanding and take care of us. When they don't serve us and others do, food arrives cold, service is slow, it's overall not a great experience. I recently learned they fired one of our favorite waitresses without investigation, one with 22 years of service with Jose's. They won't even call her back, all because of a Karen who called corporate about an issue outside of the server's control. Jose's is consistently short staffed so firing someone of this caliber is a huge blow. All this to say, why be loyal to a business that has no loyalty to it's own employees? There are plenty of better, more authentic Mexican restaurants in town. I think it's time to change my allegiance.

Old: Jose's is a solid choice of restaurant in the racine area. The food is consistently good, as well as the drinks. It can be a bit loud inside, depending on where you're seated. Regardless, while not the most authentic, there's lots to love on the menu. My personal favorite is the steak molcajete.

The greeter on Saturday made it obvious she was not happy to be working Saturday not one crack of a smile so much that my friend and I both noticed.

The salsa was extremely extremely salty I think they accidentally dumped to much salt in it today because it has never been this way before.

Just highly unsatisfied today!

My group of friends (5 of us) have been coming to Jose's for happy hour for friend's birthdays, etc for several years. Every couple of months. Today was AWFUL. We generally order the same thing every time. I always get the beef nachos (happy hour) which are always made with delicious shredded beef. Today, i got a plate of ground beef nachos...hmmm, no choice noted on menu, always just stated as "BEEF", and these were on wimpy white corn tortilla chips (vs the chips they serve from the bar). The nachos had s liquidy pale "cheese" sauce and the entire thing was MUSHY, Tastless, and unappealing. One couple ALWAYS get the quesadillas, they usually get three on the happy hour plate, today it was TWO, my other friend gets the potato skins, just POTATO skins, with cheese/toppings, and always FOUR, today just THREE. We were all saying, "this isn't right". The potato skin person (who ordered them) said they were super bland, not the same, not good.

We noticed that, the USUALLY bustling bar area was empty aside from our group of five and a few people at the bar. Something has changed. I had them remove the Nachos from my bill, I only ate a few bites, NOT GOOD. We discussed our concerns with a kitchen manager. He told me several times, "ground beef is watery" REALLY? Not in my world...since when is ground beef WATERY? And he asked if I asked for SHREDDED BEEF. I told him that I never had to ask before...maybe the wait person asked me??I don't recall...either way, I didn't know I had a choice as no one told me I had a choice, thought I was getting what I always get.

We will not be back, as I said, we were fairly regular for the past 3 years, NO MORE. Service was poor, had to ask for the bill twice, while the waitress and bartender chatted (we had asked the waitress twice) and they WERE NOT BUSY at the time...just chatting(we had places to be) and finally the bartender came out and said (kind of in an accusitory way) "Well, I have to know who had what so I can charge you..."(NO KIDDING? new concept?). all in all poor service and poor food.

Came for the second time when I was invited to a work lunch. Didn’t expect the tableside guac when my table order so that was a fun surprise. Never experienced that before. The horchata I ordered was really good! I ordered the Friday Mexican fish fry. The fish was perfectly crispy and came with many pieces! The potato pancake was way overcooked and I couldn’t enjoy it. Came with a side of coleslaw and applesauce. Coleslaw had a bit of a kick, which was pretty good. Apple sauce was fine. Came once before for happy hour and drinks which were great as well happy hour food specials were pretty cheap. There were many different types of tacos on the menu that looked very interesting. Want to come try some more!

Food was decent, but the queso was horrible. There were options of jalapeño, chipotle and cheese. I chose cheese because it's queso??? Tasted like they had a general base and added processed cheese that curdled in the hot base. Gritty and inedible and it was almost $11! Alex's Nachos with pork was 😋. The portion wasn't heaping like the last time we ordered it. They were loaded with fixings and we devoured it! The table set with ingredients to make fresh Guacamole sets out in the dining room uncovered and unattended when not in use. People parade by it (I did!) and so I will never order fresh Guacamole when returning.

Over the past 3 months they have changed their salsa recipe, and it is no longer good. Their salsa was one of the main reasons i always returned. Their have seemed to become smaller, and their pork is on the downward trend, I get a ton more fat and it’s less shredded than it used to be. I’m a sad customer as this was a top 5 spot for my family.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025 my wife and I went to Jose's Blue Sombrero in Racine. We were seated right away and within a few minutes a server delivered a basket of chips and salsa. My wife and I immediately noted to each other that the server appeared to be having a bad day as the expression on her face conveyed negativity. The chips were fine but the salsa was bland. Moments later our waiter approached the table and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered soft drinks and some hot salsa. The beverages arrived a few minutes later but the hot salsa did not. I immediately noticed a small pasty white substance in my soft drink. I examined the substance but could not make it out. A short time later the waiter returned, but I did not address the unknown substance in my drink. We ordered our dinner entrees. Sometime later we noticed a server deliver our entrees to a different table. The couple after examining the entrees told the server that was not their food order. The server returned to the kitchen with the entrees. A couple minutes later our waiter returned to our table with the same entrees previously delivered to our neighboring table. I asked the waiter why our entrees were delivered to a neighboring table. He did not have a clue. At this point, I asked for the check, paid the amount due and we left the restaurant leaving the entrees on the table. I subsequently spoke with the on-duty manager via telephone to vent my negative dining experience. The manager was pleasant and listened to my complaint. He assured me he would address my concerns. The manager asked me to come back to the restaurant to give them an opportunity to make things right. I appreciated the offer, but politely declined. In the scheme of it all, these incidents are minor, but when you couple them all together its simply not acceptable. I would not recommend Jose's Blue Sombrero located in Racine, as there are many other Mexican restaurants in close proximity to choose from that will provide excellent service, good food and attention to details.

Order 3 containers of Pico de Gallo for a company function. Only to find out nobody care about taste. Maybe it’s ann excuse for the economy but over priced for 3 containers of diced tomatoes, a couple onions in one container, and next to no jalapeño.(we had to dig for them) JUST SAD! It use to be our favorite and I was excited to share with my company, but now I have to mix it with store bought and doctor it up. Even my 10 year old was upset….!

Me and my friend went here for dinner and drinks. We were seated in the bar area and initially had a male server who got our drinks and appetizer. We asked for some more time with the menus for our meals and I guess he took that as a sign to disappear? After about 15-20 minutes I asked the bartender to get him so we could either leave or order, and she informed me he went home. She did her best to save the experience after that, but it was ridiculous.

Went on a Saturday night around 730pm. It wasn't too busy. Receive chips and a tasty salsa when we sat down. The guacamole was prepared table side and was fresh and flavorful but could have used some salt. I ordered the tostada and tamale. Tostada was good; the chicken could have used seasoning. Three stars because of the lack of seasoning on the meat. My family had the same experience with their meat. The poblano tamale was fantastic. I would go back sometime if I was in the area. I wouldn't make a special trip though.

I recently moved to the area and tried this place with my partner when we were craving some tacos. We have gone back at least 3 times since! Everything I’ve gotten so far was flavorful and cooked perfectly, and the service was great. They also accommodated allergies very well and were sure to warn us of any changes they would have to make.

Edit 2024: We no longer go to this restaurant after multiple incidents of food poisoning and the food tasting like it was pre-made from a can. Your mileage may vary

After a visit at the awesome Racine Zoo, it was time for some Mexican food. My wife had Puerco Chile Verde. She loved it. I had the Chimichanga de Pollo plate. The rice and the frijoles were so good. The chimichanga was excellent. It had so much flavor. The decor was superb. Would definitively recommend it and would visit it again. The chips and the salsa tasted homemade.

Wonderful place, been here 3+ times. Great food, hot fresh, tasty, consistent with great service and clean space. Fun and fresh interior design, servers are quick. You can take your time or get in and get out, you can set the pace. We’ve had the stuffed poblano peppers, fajitas, tacos, chips are good and salsa different - a little smoky.
