It has been awhile since I was there but the food was great!! We got the brisket, pork and several side dishes. Everything was seasoned well and the meats were great.

When we came in they explained the specials and the other menu items which was very helpful.

When J's BBQ catered my husband's birthday party last week, the food and the service were outstanding! My partner and I loved the brisket, okra, and cornbread here and had the whole place to ourselves on a beautiful Friday afternoon with the garage door open to enjoy the warm spring day! I was disappointed with the pulled pork. It didn't taste like BBQ. It was more like oven baked or slow cooked and bland and flavorless. The beans and the bun were good though.
Typically BBQ places have a variety of sauces. I either missed them or there were none.
The place looks very nice and would be great in summer. It's clean and inviting for sure.
When the waitress came out with our food, my wife mentioned that she didn't get her fries. The waitress was rude at first and said she didn't think we ordered any. But then came back with them and admitted that she missed them.

WOW!! Absolutely fantastic. I had J's cater my sons rehearsal dinner and they killed it. To start they were on time and setup everthing including heating trays serving utensils all which were disposable. Now to the food, OMG all 50 of the guests were blown away. We had Brisket, Pulled pork, Smoked turkey, Mac & Cheese, Cowboy beans, Potatoe salad and Cole slaw. Along with the Hot BBQ sauce, Original sauce and Kentucky White sauce. We've had brisket across the US, and this was surprisingly the best we've had. To be honest, we were headed to Roadhouse for pizza, and they were closed. Our son said J's was recommended by his friends in Madison who went there. A little resistant to go, we went, and we were not disappointed. We will definitely be back. Hubs and I love good BBQ. We’ve heard great things about this place so we took a drive today.
It was simply WOW!!!!!
Their selection of smoked meats is outstanding. I had pulled pork, hubs had brisket. Flavorful, perfectly smoked, and fresh.
Sides we chose were Cole slaw, Mac n cheese, and beans. All were outstanding.
This place has been in Ripon 10 years, how have we not been here?!?! Worth the drive from Oshkosh!!!

Stopped by J’s back in November 2023. My cousin, who went to college in Ripon, highly recommended we eat here. The special for the week was brisket tacos. I’m not kidding when I say it might have been the best meal I’ve ever had. I know it’s not a regular menu item but it should be. One of the owners even checked in with us at the end of the night to see how our experience was. Amazing food and wonderful passionate people! This was our first time trying J's and it didn't let us down. They were very helpful with the menu explaining the options. When I asked about the Cole slaw they offered a sample. The brisket had a great "crust" with lots of peppery flavor. Was pretty lean which I like. Cole slaw didn't have dairy and uses a mustard sauce which I'm a big fan of. Didn't try the beans or sauces so can't comment there.

What can I say about this Little hidden gem in Ripon Wisconsin. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The brisket and pulled pork was very well seasoned very juicy and we had an Opportunity to try some burnt ends very delicious. Also had the opportunity of meeting one of the owners very friendly. I ordered the brisket (wet) and as soon as I tasted it I went to my BBQ happy place. Let's face it. Wisconsin isn't known for it's good taste in BBQ but J's.... They get it! The bark was perfect! It just exploded with flavor every single bite. The brisket melted in your mouth and was marbled beautifully. Not too fatty, not too lean. I had some sauces on the side (you know, just in case) and never touched a single one. When sauce would be an insult to the meat, THAT is great BBQ! The Mac and Cheese and fried pickles were excellent too. If you appreciate great BBQ check out J's.

For folks who like their food non complex and mildly flavored🙂. The French fries were good. The mac and cheese was like velveeta diluted with milk. I was lured here by the promise of cornbread and baked mac and cheese on their website/online. Neither was on the menu but I don't totally regret the drive. I live in IL but have family in GL and Ripon and I come to J's as often as possible. I have traveled all over including a lot of the south and I'd put their brisket up against anyone's, anywhere. The brisket tacos in particular are unbelievable. Not a brisket fan? They will turn you into one with theirs. Still not? The pulled pork is also amazing. And the sides, too many good ones to choose from, and sizable portions come with each. Sweet potato fries, cole slaw, and the beans (with a ton of brisket in them) are some of my favorites. Their mac and cheese is among the best I've ever had.
The place also has a family atmosphere and is run by some of the nicest folks around. My son loves going there and on an occasion when I couldn't bring him with me, the co-owner Jen sent me home with a generous bowl of their mac and cheese for him. You don't get that in Chicago that's for sure. I highly recommend this place, just check the website for their hours. They're not open all the time but they post the information so you know when to go.

Where do I start. The brisket and pulled pork were ok but nothing to brag about. The coleslaw had too much watery mayo base, the Mac and cheese tasted like it was made with cheese sauce. Omg the sweet tea was nasty. If you are serving tea and it is going to have what tasted like a mixture of clove and cinnamon then you should let the customer know as it's not listed as a spice tea. Cooking meat in a smoker or over a pit fire doesn't make it BBQ. Sauce cooked on the meat turns it into BBQ. Standing in line waiting to order and a group of kids talking about their high school graduation coming up with mixed drinks in their hand isn't good either.

This was our first visit. Everybody told me I must go and I'm so glad I did. It's really warm and inviting. Definitely casual. This is now my favorite place to eat in Ripon. I'm going to hang out for the fun aosphere and employees too.
They have some of the best beef brisket I have EVER tasted! You must try J's BBQ sauce. Although there are many sauces offered. My son got pulled pork tacos which were Wonderful! The portions are all very generous. My son, a 23 year old, could only finish 1 taco and I only made a tiny dent in my beef brisket and fries. The fries were awesome too.
The menu is simple, but varied enough for almost everyone. Next time I'm going for the wings.
The employees are very nice. Madeline who took our order is great at explaining the food and helping you decide. Sol behind the bar makes good drinks and is a sweetheart. She graduates in 3 weeks. Congratulations Sol. The owners even stopped by to see how we were doing. Wishing their son, Jordan, the best. Great atmosphere. Really warm and fun.

Finding the time to visit when they're open with my schedule is a bit difficult. During my 1st visit. It was nice and quiet. Not too busy. Just how I like it. By far one of the best bbq places in Wisconsin!! The service was amazing, such a personal touch especially meeting both owners. Family is a great importance to them and for that reason alone we will be back. We had such a great date night, what could be better than a cute place, few games of cribbage, and awesome bbq.

Great place! Decor is good, BBQ pulled pork and briskets were excellent. I had the baked beans too which were tops. The wait staff was incredibly nice and the chef came out to greet our gang too. Ripon finally has a vwry good eatery. We're coming here when we're in town. Only wish they were open more often.

The food is amazing; everything my group ordered was excellent. The service was also top-notch, and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and even gave us free samples so we had a better idea what to order. I’ll definitely eat there again.

I love this place SO much. I started coming here 2 years when I first found out about Ripon. Coming from Texas, happening upon outstanding barbecue in our small town was the most pleasant surprise. I come here every week and am always impressed by the food, the staff, and the experience!!! So grateful to have y’all in Ripon!

J's BBQ has a pretty good brisket. I ordered the 1/4# brisket, chopped, on a brioche bun. It seems everything costs extra.I also ordered a double side of mac-n-cheese and a side of corn bread. My bride ordered a 1/4# pork with a double order fried okra and corn bread. If you have not been here before, you must get in line to order from someone behind a plexiglass shield due to Covid. Walk in and sit at a table and you will sit forever wondering if someone will wait on you. I was only aware of what to do by someone who was familiar with the set up. The menu is on the wall and online. Perhaps there was a QR Code at the table. Approach the person behind the protective shield, order what you want, try to listen to what the order taker says, pay your bill (tipping is suggested at this time - well before you even know if the service was acceptable), and then go sit down and when your order is ready, someone will walk around with your food yelling out the name you provided. They were actually pretty quick.

My party of 7 did not have to wait very long despite how busy J's appeared to be.. My bride and I received our food as did another couple that was with us. I noticed I was missing my cornbread. When a server delivered the other couple's order, I let them know about my missing cornbread and waved my receipt. Upon his return to deliver member of my party's meal,, he delivered my cornbread on the top of the lid of what appeared to be the same type clear lid of a round take out container.

Looking forward to trying the cornbread, I picked it up and ..... wait, why is it so cold??? It was taken straight from the refrigerator and delivered to me. My bride received a nice warm piece from her order. I took a bite anyway and it tasted bland, likely from being so cold. I am sure it would have tasted better if it was warm and had a tab of butter on it but I was not afforded the opportunity...for which I paid for. I was very disappointed and I am not easily disappointed.

Moving on, the chopped brisket would have been a lot better without paying for the bread to make it a sandwich. Do not waste your time or money. Get it plain. The generous 1/4# of meat does not stay in the sandwiched bread and you will end up using a fork anyway.

The fried okra was pretty good and I had no complaints. The "world famous" mac-n-cheese was far from worthy to be called world famous. It is definitely better than the boxed kind but similar to that served in most BBQ restaurants.

Overall, the staff was friendly and did their best to take care of the mad rush of people that had descended on this small town for the Christmas "pre-Thanksgiving" season of shopping.

Unfortunately, at least one staff member thought corn bread should be served ice cold and thought the clear plastic top of a take out container is adequate as a serving plate.

I generally do not give less than 4 stars when I have enjoyed most of my meal and service. However, J's BBQ left me feeling disappointed. I am originally from Georgia and corn bread is an important part of a BBQ plate and it is NEVER served ice box cold! I should never have tipped 20% before receiving my order. My rating should probably be a 3.5 or 4 but I was really looking forward to something special.

My advice....do not tip when you order. Wait until you have properly been served and then reward the staff using the tip jar at the order station.

Will I return? This was my first time stopping in Ripon and was a seasonal visit. Should I find myself back again, I am willing to give J’s another try. I have no pictures to share this time and for that I apologize. I hope you have a better experience than I had, just skip the cold cornbread and everything should be good.

J's BBQ took on catering our wedding with two weeks notice when another vendor bailed on us. I am extremely grateful they took us in and filled our guests up! The food was highly praised, service on such short notice was a bonus as well!

A true BBQ gem—best brisket I've had in Wisconsin without a doubt. They have a ton of creative sauces (as well as great takes on traditional sauces), and they let you sample those sauces at a self-serve saucing station. Hoping this sticks around for a long time as it's easily the best restaurant in the area. Owners seem cool too!
Update- they don’t let you sample sauce anymore and the local staffing shortage has affected their hours, but they are still an amazing eatery. If you’re in town when their closed, look at their Facebook to see if they are doing any festivals/events, they seem to do a ton of those on their off days.

I've eaten here a few times but this was my 1st visit inside. Staff is friendly and quick. I ordered the chicken and it was wonderful. Just as good as their brisket and pork. The corn bread is legendary and the potato salad mashed is a unique flavorful side.
Everything I've tried has been excellent. Great to have a solid BBQ in the area.

This was really *really* good.

We got the family sized meal and it was all just delicious. And far more than the 5 of us could eat. Happy to have a snack later.

The staff were all super nice. Friendly and helpful, I couldn't be more pleased.

They didn't have burnt ends, as such, but I asked for as close as they had and was not disappointed. We will certainly be back next time we're in town. Thanks for a great lunch, this was an easy 5 stars 😁

Wish we had went sooner - went with the family for dinner - this place is great. Price matches the quality nicely.

Nice atmosphere. Much larger than I thought it would be. Food came out pretty quick, and it was all at proper temps. Local beer on tap and reasonably priced, could have had a little more (but had a good IPA to pair with the BBQ). It is worth going to Ripon from Oshkosh or FDL to eat here.

The menu/order process was a little funky, being the first time there, just make sure you go into the main eating area and look at the other items on the menu (like a family meal and specials).

Our church had a meal catered to us at Green Lake Conference Center. We had brisket, bbq pork, chicken, garlic cheesy mashed potatoes, baked beans, sweet potato fries & a veggie tray. It was all great (I didn't care for the beans, but many in our group really liked the flavor). Their service was even better. Our cabins were way back in the camp, but one of the co-owners offered to drive back there. They even gave us a bit more than we ordered. We would readily order from them, again.
