Juanita’s is back…

We were regulars at Juanita’s when it was on the south side, up until the management changed and things went downhill. I’m very glad we tried it again today at the new location, because the food and service were excellent, and the atmosphere (formerly Za51) better than ever. We had the burrito bowl, birria tacos, and carnitas, which for me are the litmus test for a Mexican restaurant. Superb. The server was genuinely friendly and very helpful…can’t wait to go back.

If you haven’t tried Juanita’s, or haven’t tried it lately, give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Disappointing Experience at This Overhyped Mexican Spot – Not Worth the Hype or Price

I was on a business trip and staying at a really nice hotel nearby, so I decided to check out this Mexican restaurant just down the street with a group of colleagues. What a letdown. The food quality was basic at best – nothing special or authentic that stood out. But the real issue was the portions: they were ridiculously small for the prices we paid, leaving us all feeling ripped off and still hungry. It was kind of disappointing on every level, especially since I'm no stranger to the service industry (I come from restaurants and bars, and I'm a manager at a large corporation, so I get how things work behind the scenes).

Service was probably one of the worst I've encountered in a very long time. Our waitress wasn't friendly at all – when we'd ask questions, she'd give vague, half-hearted responses that didn't help. We were a table of four, and when we handed over our credit cards to pay (since we were in a group), she clearly didn't know whose card was whose, which added unnecessary confusion and awkwardness. Then, when I asked for some salsa, it took a full 25 minutes to bring it out – we're at a Mexican restaurant, for crying out loud! And don't get me started on the sauces: they normally have that ranchero sauce or green sauce, but what they gave us was barely enough to put on two chips for the entire table. Pathetic.

This place seems like a basic cash grab targeting all the corporate people staying in the nearby hotels. You're way better off skipping it and heading to a food truck down the road for something more satisfying and value-packed. The only redeeming factor was the ambience – it was pretty nice just because the place inside a strip mall. But that doesn't make up for the subpar food, tiny portions, and terrible service. Save your money and time; go elsewhere.

My wife and I have been to Juanita's several times in the past month and it is our favorite restaurant in the Eau Claire area! The place is clean, prices are good, ambiance is great and food is amazing. The wait staff are just right with their attention to detail and the drinks are delicious and plentiful. The chips and salsa are a tasty treat to top it all off. If you like mexican cuisine, Juanita's needs to be on your bucket list!

My husband just went here in the middle of his meal he saw this couple with a service dog we understand it’s a service dog but they where giving this dog with a fork to eat 😟 and giving him water out of a cup the ones that they give the customer to consume in. Food was very bland. Salsa was delicious. But that’s pretty much it. We had several different things on the menu and nobody was impressed. The burritos are mostly rice with a $13 price tag. That’s some expensive rice. And don’t even bother ordering Horchata. It’s likely some kind of powder mixed with water. Since there are about 10 Mexican food restaurants within a 5 mile radius, we will not be going back to that one. But thumbs up for the salsa.

since they moved places, the prices are seem nickled and dimed. You get a meal and have to pay extra for hot sauce, $2.5, and then extra for limes which is $1. Guac and queso is like $9 each. lol

We stopped here because it was close to our hotel. I can't even express properly how much I enjoyed my meal here. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. First time here. I was very impressed with this restaurant. (new location?). It was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. Came for a Saturday lunch, and got seated right away. Our server did a great job to get us settled in with menus, waters, chips, and salsa.

Got an order of Guacamole. It was just "okay". It didn't taste very fresh. We always get Guacomle and have pretty high standards for quality, freshness, seasoning. This batch tasted a little "off".

The rest of the meal items were very good. Got an order of chicken tacos, the Shrimp & Avocado salad, and one Beef Birria Taco ( with the consome). Everything was flavorful, hot and well presented. Loved the bowl of consome with the birria).

With the exception of the mediocre guacamole, it was an excellent experience. Would come back again.

If you want some Mexican food, this was good. I had some California Street tacos, which meant that they put avocado salsa on the meat. It was nice to try the barbacoa (roast goat). Stopped in for a super fun Cindo De Mayo celebration! Of course we enjoyed the free tequila shots but the food and blended margaritas were also 10/10. The salsa tastes homemade and fresh. Our waitress was so attentive regardless of how chaotic it was! Props to her. Only complaint was the hostesses were really scrambling due to being so busy and causing a scene at the door. I dined twice at Juanitas and it definitely has a more unique menu compared to Cancun’s. There are some similarities but Juanitas offers many different options. You will get the usual bowls of chips and salsa and the salsa is incredible! I have tried the Birria tacos with corn tortillas and the 3 street tacos with grilled steak on flour tortillas. This place is perhaps my new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Chippewa Valley. It is worth checking out!

First time visiting tonight. Service was decent our server was very friendly which I enjoyed. There were lots of waiting. Took 20 min to get my husbands margarita, came in a throw away cup as they said the dishwasher was broken. Our food came out at a decent amount of time but they didn’t give me my rice or any of the extras but upon getting our bill charged us for it. She did take it off when I mentioned it.

Always one of my favorite places but since changing location it seems all the old staff is gone and the quality and service are slipping. Went to the bar to order food to go and have a margarita while I wait and it was very chaotic with the bartender not seeming to know how to make the ordered drinks and having to remake several margaritas for the waitstaff making service a bit slow. The carnitas were overdone and dry which I wasn’t expecting and it was bland. On a side note they aren’t getting the best reputation from former waitstaff regarding pay and treatment.

Went in and overheard a woman saying she’d like a margarita, not a typical margarita drinker so didn’t have a preference on tequila. The waitress then listed off top shelf tequila and the lady decided to go with casamigos. I thought this was shady, as the woman had no clue how much this was going to cost and that her options provided were only top shelf. Apparently that’s what you’re “supposed” to do as a server. Went on Wednesday to try out the new location, had to seat ourselves, only to find dirty tables, finally found a clean one, took about 5 minutes to be seen, were only two waitresses and were a moderate amount of tables, waitress took our drink orders as I had to go and retrieve menus, got my margarita which I asked for a regular non house premade mixed one, it came back with what appeared to be soda and lime juice and tequila in it . Was bitter and very sour, ordered chimichanga, (had to retrieve our silverware and napkins) was under cooked, full of mostly bland rice and refried beans and little cheese, found some ground beef finally but bland no spice or flavor, the salsa tasted like tomato sauce with an occasional onion, husband ordered a chicken and chorizo plate that was bland and no spice.. He felt bad that we were looking for a nice lunch and that my chimichanga was really bad so he gave me a tortilla with his meat and mix and it really wasn't a whole lot better than what I had on my plate one thing nice was the waitress did take the margarita off of our check and I appreciate that, but won't be returning again...

Service was great, the staff was responsive and could answer questions. The atmosphere felt good, per my preferences the music inside was too loud and it was hard to have a conversation without speaking very loudly. Decor was great, just what you would expect.

The food was not to my liking, others may enjoy it. The guacamole was heavy on the salsa side. It was $8 and most of it is pico de gallo. The queso dip was uninspiring, something I would expect at a movie theatre in one of those prepackaged cups.

We tried the carne asada plate, hoping we could find a place here with decent carne asada. This was an epic fail. I could not even tell if it was set in a marinade, it was bland and the meat was tough. The tortilla was overly salty, good, but salty. Rice and beans were decent. Nice fluff rice, which I appreciated and it had good flavor. The beans did not stand out, bland and needing some flair to stand out as something you can only get at the restaurant.

The salsa and chips were on the better side. Chips were done perfectly and we kept going back to them. The problem was that the salsa had way too much cilantro in it. I like cilantro in menudo and pezole, so I am a fan, but even I was surprised by how it overwhelmed the salsa. Perhaps just a bad prep that day.

I think we missed out on by not trying the fajitas, so we may go back again, but will be trying new things, as these particular dishes did not work for us.

Again this is our tastes, people have different tastes, so if you like it that way, then awesome. The service and atmosphere are fantastic.

Good food and service. Inside and outside seating available. Busy, which is why I only gave service a 4. Decor inside and out is appealing and tasteful. Nice selection of food options and reasonably priced. Portions are generous. We didn't try any of the alcoholic offerings this time. Definitely will go.back.

This was our first time eating here. Our server was friendly. Answered our questions about beverages and items on the menu. We asked about a sample of the tap Dos Equis Lager beer, no samples on tap beer. That was disappointing. My husband ordered the house margarita, nothing yo write home about.
Good: we ordered the Juanita’s chimichanga plate and the Fajita Bowl. Very mild not much taste. We’ve had much better Mexican food other places. It took a very long time to receive our food. They filled our chips 3 times before our food was served. We were a table of 4. The chips and salsa were good.

The location, inside and outside areas are nice.

Our group felt the same that the meal and beverages were rated at 2.

Food was good. My server was very friendly. But while I was trying to enjoy my meal, with my children, we couldn't help but to over hear, not only kitchen staff cussing and calling someone names (in Spanish, but I do understand) but, ALSO who I believe is the Owner of the restaurant, slandering and trash talking one of her employees. I found that to be very unpleasant, & bothersome.. reminded me of high school.... needless to say, it ruined our experience. Especially considering I had my children present. Hopefully this won't be the case if we decide dine in again.

Carnitas are excellent! The table salsa is great. Unfortunately today I could tell they didn't have the El milagro corn tortillas. Ask, and if they don't, go with the flour tortillas.

Arrived just after a busy time in the summer heat. Friendly staff as mentioned by others. Great flavor of items ordered. Ceviche tostada, was great would have liked chips instead of tostada but that’s me. The goat taco was tasty but that really stole the show was the beef head! Trust me and try it!! Crispy, tasty, chipped goodness however you have it. One thing I noticed being from the restaurant biz is that they are young and willing to learn, but teamwork is needed. This was a Tuesday. My belly tells me to return 😋

The food is always amazing at Juanita's. Although, compared to the old location, the atmosphere is a lot different. Instead of feeling like a small town, Mexican hole in the wall joint, you feel like you're in a busy, loud, 'trendy' big town restaurant. This is fine for some people, I just prefer the old location better. Service was great, spoke Spanish with our server, Sergio. Kitchen was a bit slow tonight. Food here is always worth the wait, though! 🌮>⏰️

I ate here a few weeks ago while visiting in town. The birria tacos tasted great but I was a little upset that they charge over 4 dollars for the consomé that traditionally ALWAYS are served with birria. So it was $15 for 3 tacos and another 4 for the consomé and that doesn’t include rice and beans if I wanted that too. Great meal but the pricing isn’t right and with so many other options I don’t see a reason to go back.

My favorite Mexican Restaurant in town! I’ve liked everything I’ve tried. The tortilla soup is ah-mazing. The burritos- to die for. I love their salsa. The owners are a local family who gives everything they have to the restaurant. They are genuinely good people. I also love the new location and I plan to spend Many meals there!

This place is the best to get Mexican food hands down . It's the most authentic and has the best salsa !! The food is amazing. The new location is gorgeous even if it's farther from where I live now . Even with them just opening their new location, their service has been top notch . The owner Bethany does every thing to make sure her customers are happy . Such a great menu and so many delicious dishes.

I have yet to try the new location but my girlfriend and I have been dining at Juanita's for quite some time. It is our favorite place and knowing the owner personally I can say she does everything she can to ensure the satisfaction of others not only at her restaurant but outside of it as well. I've also had the pleasure of working with the Juanita's crew in the past. If the same kind of effort is being put into this new location as what was being put in the old one I can honestly give it the rating I did without having yet stepped foot in the new location. Edit. Went today not long after this post. Still great food, hard workers, her little helper running around :) still great.
