In town for a great UMCVB conference!Decided to head over next door and enjoy some late dinner. It was amazing. The shrimp tempura was so delicate. The dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Filet and hanger steak was out of this world and so tender. Rice perfectly cooked and the sushi was a marriage of flavors and textures. The service was top knotch! Been going here since 2017. Its been a hot sec due to busy schedule but they changed the menu and the yaki niku set which was $36 for three types of meats you can choose from with veggies and rice. They changed it to a sampler set for $32 where you get multiple different type of meats, no veggies. As someone who came here constantly for special occasions, this set was not worth it. You get like 2 pieces of each. I miss the old set as I already knew which specific meats I want. The individual purchases is $9-11 dollars with only 5-6 pieces of meats each which provides way less meat than the previous set. Definitely feel like I paid more for less and was not worth the price. At least the previous set had me full.

For 10 years Katsu-ya has been a staple in our house for anniversaries, birthday's, and family gatherings. After a recent visit on 9/4/2025. We were greeted with the whole menu being overhauled, which we didn't exactly mind. The menu was scarce of a few things we used to get but no problem they made the sushi anyway. Then comes the yakaniku. The did away with the sets, to "promote" people to try new things and more variety. Well let's just say we didn't order a set. We ordered individual meats. Hanger steak, ribeye, short rib, and shrimp. Needless to say when they brought out the portions I was surprised that I was paying 11 dollars for 3 small shrimp. The meats were no longer uniformly cut and just chunks of meat now thrown on a plate in a line. The portions and what you pay for is a scam. This whole "reimagining" of the menu is just a greedy cash grab. Who ever is in charge here has totally ruined the value and experience we used to adore from katsuya. My wife and I left bewildered by the same thing as we used to order would amount to approx $105 everytime for years had ballooned to $180 before tip. The server was amazing and we would never take our experience out on them. This place is a snapshot at the greed plaguing the service industry. Katsuya of Japan is no longer in our rotation for a fine dining experience.

Been here several times. The inside is nice. The hibachi is almost always amazing. The chefs are amazing. And I typically have great-good service on the hibachi bside. I've only had to wait a long time once and it was because they were down a chef. But when we were served, the chef was hilarious and made up for it.

But the sushi side...won't go again. Tried it 3 times. Me and my husband got sick each time, even when we ordered different sushi rolls. The service is poor each time. Staff very unfriendly. The give you one menu for the whole table to share, don't check in on you, if you have questions regarding the menu, the staff are standoffish to answer. Its just not a welcoming environment on that side. Definitely will not do the sushi side again.

I have been here 3 times, and each experience is different. I would recommend reservations, I have had to wait up to 45 minutes. They do not take reservations for Saturdays, which kinda sucks, so I would recommend going earlier to get a table. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, but there is a paid parking garage next door, out you can try to find parking in the area along the street- it is a busy area however. The food here is great! I get the table with the little grill and you are able to select 3 meats, you are also brought a small cup of veggies and rice. Sometimes it comes together, sometimes not. They do not allow substitutions on the meats, so choose wisely. There are seafood options, along with steaks and chicken. They also bring you 3 different sauces for dipping. The meat comes preseasoned, and it's very good. You can easily spend at least 2 hours here for a meal this way, but they do have a hibachi area, and sushi, which is also very good. I usually get a roll while waiting for the entrees. The rice does get cold, my only gripe. The best thing about this place is the value. It will be costly to dine at the table grilling, but it's 32 bucks for good portions of 3 different meat options, which can include filet mignon- plus rice and veg. I feel like I'm getting my money's worth for the food plus the pleasure of my dining company and ambience. Highly recommend you check it out!

Our server (Josie I believe) gave us our ice cream and dropped off the bill. 2 times within less than 3 minutes she came back to the table asking for payment after she had just told us to take our time. I found that extremely unprofessional and rude. I’m not sure if she thought we weren’t going to pay or if she had somewhere to be outside of work and was trying to leave. We have been at Katsu-Ya several times. This time was horrible . From the bar service to the dinner I can’t believe it was the same restaurant. When asked how was dinner I said it was terrible. The sever said oh great I’m glad everybody is enjoying dinner. Then I asked him if he heard what I said? He was dis shoveling and asked me what was said. I repeated my statement. He said sorry. Not even asking what was wrong. Only one thing out of the several things that was terrible. Only got sorry for the terrible $150 dinner. Not worth it!!

This restaurant is wildly inconsistent. The food and service is either exemplary or rage inducing. I understand and am amused when I get sat with a clearly new hibachi chef. That is not the complaint. The primary issue is the wild and arbitrary amount of time between getting seated and when the dining experience starts. Then food preparation is inconsistent as portion sizes can either be excessive or non existent.

The last time we went, which was probably around the 20th time total, we were sat in a less than ideal situation, then waited over 45 minutes for the server to take the drink order. When the server came out with the hand towels, they were ice cold. So this might not be a make or break issues, but my wife really loves the warm towel thing. The look in her eyes told be everything I needed to know.

We got up and left. The hostess suggested I could speak to a manager. I declined and did what I 100% recommend everyone do when they consider coming to this restaurant, we drove to Nakashima instead. Got sat 5 minutes after we arrived and had food coming out 15 minutes after seating. For some unknown reason Nakashima has it together and their chefs are consistently trained. The lights are a little to bright there so the ambiance is lost a bit, but I’m don’t wasting my time with Katsu-Ya.

Ordered soup and salad and entree (soup and salad are separate purchases). Entree came out first. I just kept it otherwise it would just sit in the kitchen under a heat lamp. Clear soup was flavorless. Ginger dressing on salad was tart. For my entree I got the Chichen Katsu. Chicken was fine. Just a panko covered breast. Nothing special. However, the side of cabbage was strictly raw cabbage with a side dressing that had molasses in it and I’m not a molasses fan. On a positive note, I had a cosmo and it was great!

We enjoyed the food at Katsuya, it was fabulous! We had a very attentive server, she went above and beyond for our needs! My only downfall is, my company and I noticed that every time the busser arrived to clean a new table, it was difficult to enjoy our atmosphere with negative energy. Ethan was a fantastic server and he was highly personable. He was very considerate when taking our orders and even made suggestions! The Laura roll was delicious and not on the menu, I’m glad I tried it and that he was kind enough to order it for me too. Not only that but the manager Kaitlyn was able to take the time to help print a copy of my temporary driver’s license and that kind of hospitality is something you only find in Wisconsin! We had hibachi at Katsu-Ya on 11/18/24 and hit the trifecta of excellence of staff! Tony, our bartender, made THE BEST Whiskey Old Fashioned I've had in a very long time. Lucas, our dining waiter, was very pleasant, attentive, accurate and efficient. Atle was our hibachi chef and he put on absolutely the best cooking performance I've seen at a hibachi in forever; AND he cooked our food to perfection! All in all, we were all very impressed and satisfied with our time at Katsu-Ya. Would definitely go again and recommend it to others.

My sister and I had reservations at 530. We got to the restaurant at about 515 and sat at the bar and had a drink and picked out our three rolls we wanted to order. We got sat at about 5:35. We ordered our rolls at about 5:45. The server knew we were going to the PAC and show was at 7. We still didn't have our three rolls at 6:35, so we canceled our order. The manager was nice enough to comp our two drinks, but come on.....we were super disappointed. It would have been close to an hour for three sushi rolls. I don't believe I will return to Katsu-Ya. This is a great place for sushi, hibachi, and/or hot-pot all under one roof. We opted for sushi and enjoyed the wide variety of proteins, textures, and flavors. The pork belly bao buns are a great way to start. The highlight of the evening was the torched snapper, but I was also impressed by the curry on the godzilla roll. The scallop ceviche tasted as good as its presentation. I highly recommend trying Katsu-Ya if you haven't already. I will certainly be back to try more!

We wanted hot sake, but the server said we could only order cold (which was totally fine), but she then went on to explain the tradition of cold sake and why we should educate ourselves better and not order hot. We wanted to order more food after we placed our initial order. But didn’t received much service after that. Ahead of paying a few of us girls got up to use the restroom, but our server blocked the pathway to the restroom. I said excuse me twice before realizing it was intentional. She mentioned something about paying first. I said I’m going to the restroom, but she still didn’t move. The men were still at the table and they were taking care of the bill. So I don’t understand why she was being hostile toward me and my friends who wanted to use the bathroom. Anyway this experienced stuck out as particularly upsetting so I’m leaving this review.

Husband and I came for our anniversary dinner. Waiting for drinks at the bar for dinner and of course they are a little busy but no one even lifted their heads. The bartender Jenny, was done serving drinks blatantly ignored us! We even sat right in front of her and she wasn’t serving anyone else and still refused to acknowledge us! A bartender that was doing other duties had acknowledged us and I told him what had happened and thanked him for serving us. He apologized and was doing a good job. Jenny said it was his fault joking and still ignored us the rest of the evening. She was very aware of our presence and chose not to serve us! So disappointed with servers!! Had a party of 4 two ordered Hibachi, the other two ordered Sushi. The two orders of Hibachi, one was Salmon the other was a Swordfish and Filet Mignon combo both had great flavor, cooked as ordered and large portions. Interacting with the chef and his showmanship was fantastic. The problem was the two orders of Sushi a California Roll and a Shrimp Tempura took 45 minutes to come out. The other couple had to sit there and watch us eat our Hibachi until we were almost finished, we where told by our waitress all the food would be served at the same time. We had four people at the table and everyone got their food at different times. A few times they attempted to bring another tables order to us. Not very organized. When asked why our food wasn’t coming didn’t really get an answer.

Fairly typical Hibachi with a nicer atmosphere than the typical hibachi place.

Our chef was sporadic. He threw his spatula at me during the beginning of the meal when he attempted to do the spinning.

I was slightly disappointed because during the throwing of the shrimp tails, he asked the table “who wanted to catch one” I enthusiastically volunteered. As I did he exclaimed that “ if I could catch it with my Chopsticks he would buy my dinner” to the tables exclamation and excitement I proceeded to catch the shrimp tail with my chopsticks! It was amazing I couldn’t believe that I grabbed it. When the bill came my meal was fully on the bill and I still had to pay. I wasn’t sure if he forgot about offering to pay or just ignored his offer either way I was disappointed that I was misled.

With that said this restaurant was wonderful and we would 100% go back.
