Description

Our Founder Don Zimmermann was a carpenter by trade. His extensive background was in construction, building, and grading. He completed numerous land development projects and constructed many diverse area businesses. He loved working outside and building was his passion. Together with his wife Ruby, they decided to build a golf course in their hometown of Richfield Wisconsin. You can see Don’s rustic wood-working in the clubhouse, which is a piece of him living on at the course. The lumber in the building was sawed on his own sawmills. With the help of their children; Brian, Dwight, Michele and Scott; Don & Ruby laid out the groundwork for what we know now as Zimmermann’s Kettle Hills Golf Course.

Golf was fine, but the counter staff were q uite rude. We had a 9 hole, no cart, free pass from a league rainout. When I asked for possibly a free cart, as we have been there over 10 years, and one of our group was golfing for the first time, the counter guy and some jerk from the office yelled out no way. So we paid for the cart. Then we went elsewhere after golf and spent $100.00 for lunch.

I have golfed here more times than I can count. It has been mostly a positive experience. I went out today, which was Labor Day. I know it’s a holiday, but the parking lot was still only 3/4 full. I had an 1151 tee time. I had one rider with me and was expecting a second golfer. He ended up not making it. We went out at about 11:48 AM. After I hit my drive and started to leave the starter yelled for me to come back because he wanted a twosome behind us to join. I went back, however, the two players were not ready to go. One was standing there talking to the starter and I don’t know where the other one was. I waited a couple minutes and then left. It was moderate pace play in front of us. I’ve noticed a lot more kids are playing this course which will slow things down as many don’t know golf etiquette. When we got to the sixth hole, there were two foursomes waiting to tee off, myself and my rider, and the twosome behind us had caught up and were on the green of number 5. There should never be that many people stacked up on one tee box waiting to go. I knew I would be sitting at this hole for easily 25 minutes. That was the end of my day. We just drove back to the clubhouse. It’s been fun golfing here, but it’s time to move onto another course. *Edit— the one other item to add is I also played the week prior to Labor Day. Much to our surprise, the grass was not cut. The fairways were the equivalent of the first cut, and the greens were in poor shape. That should not happen on a Saturday.

I ended up calling twice to see if they allow youth on course ( it’s an app) and to see if they could help me set up a tee time! One of the guys who answered the phone said yes kettle hills allows it! But the other guy said they did not and the other guy was wrong than hung up on me! If kettle hills could get back to me on the correct answer that would be great!

You don't want to golf here if you are planning an enjoyable experience. Our FOURsome went out a couple minutes before our scheduled time. The group in front of us was hitting their second shot on the second hole. We were harrassed three times during the front 9 to close the gap on the group in front of us. The ranger yelled at us mid-swing - showing no respect for us as paying customers. We had a THREEsome behind us. But they were never impeded by our play. And we stayed consistently 1.5 holes behind the group in front of us (so proper speed of play). Then, on the back nine, with no one close behind us, we were told again to close the gap or we would be removed from the course! I've been golfing for over 50 years and I have NEVER been treated this way on a golf course. The ranger on the back nine told us we were holding up "hundreds of players." But in fact, our GPS showed us anywhere from 3 min's behind to 5 min's ahead. And the threesome behind us was consistently one hole behind. My take on this is they wanted us to move faster than normal play in order to keep paying customers moving faster than normal through the course. I will never play this course again - and you should think twice about playing there as well.

I read your response. What you fail to understand is that we did NOT hold up the group behind us. At the pass...before starting on the 10th hole, we waited for the group behind us to come up to the green. I, specifically, asked them if we were holding them up and would they like to play through. They said no - we were NOT holding them up. And they were not holding up the group behind them. They were heading in to get hot dogs, so we went out on the 10th - and we knew that by LOOKING AT THE GPS, we probably looked like we were now way behind. The group of three behind us never caught up to us on the back nine. When you sit in the clubhouse and monitor GPS, you can check times and see where everyone's at on the course. But you have no clue as to what is actually occuring on the course. This outing was paid for by my kids as my Father's Day gift. I'm old enough to let your pestering roll off my back. I would not have left the course with a rain check. You would have had to give us a full refund so we could have enjoyed the day at a different course without being accousted. My kids were acting as though they were traumatized, as again...THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO US BEFORE AT ANY OTHER COURSE.

So you can sit at your computer screen and watch golf carts move about the course. But until you learn to approach a group and ASK about the situation, instead of firing both barrels and riding away, we will never even discuss your course again - much less book a tee time there. Although I will tell everyone I've ever met about what you did to my kids during their Father's Day outing.

I am running a golf outing this summer and we are doing a golf raffle. I called Kettle Hills to get a gift card for $300 to cover the cost of golf for 4 people to put on the raffle table. I told the guy on the phone that I don't live close by and asked if he could run my debit card over the phone and then mail me the gift card. He told me that they can't take debit cards over the phone. I told him that I wouldn't be buying anything and ended the conversation. He then proceeded to call back and say "you just have to come in a buy it and then hung up". He was incredibly rude and not helpful at all. Needless to say I wont be buying any gift certificate to play golf there anytime soon.

A terrible experience. We were paired with a group that constantly made demeaning comments, ruining our experience. When we approached the front desk, they referred us to contact the Director of Golf Nick Tarasoff, he dismissed it, saying it wasn’t his staff so it is not his problem and we should’ve known the procedure to report it on the course. A truly disappointing outing. Nick described the expired as a learning moment.

Our 6 person group who are all skilled golfers and acknowledge pace of play came to do a 3v3 scramble. We were told we have to go out seperate (after booking 2 tee times). The whole round the second 3 sum was 4 holes ahead of the group behind them, and our pace of play screen said we finished 71 minutes ahead of time. Once we made the turn we asked again and showed the owner our pace of play, and he still denied us to go out at the same time. There is no reason we should have had to play seperate considering the circumstances.

The best thing about this course is the design and layout of the holes. The rolling hills topography of the area makes it perfect for holes with good elevation changes and gentle slopes. The condition of the course isn’t bad, although the grass was a little thin in some places. They have a nice clubhouse and good food and drink facilities. All in all, not a bad place and reasonably priced.

GOLFERS BEWARE: One of the golf holes runs parallel to the right side of the parking lot as you’re driving in. If golfers teeing off on this hole slice their shot, there’s a good chance the ball will land in the parking lot and damage a car. I have to believe this happens frequently because there’s nothing to prevent a sliced shot from reaching the parking lot like trees or a net. The windshield of my SUV was smashed by one of these errant shots. $1,000 for the replacement. The golf course takes no responsibility for damage done to cars, even though the golf course created the risk and has done nothing to prevent the damage.

My husband and I played 18 yesterday. I believe I signed up for The Woods but there was an outing so I think it was changed. Regardless the course was beautiful! The main reason for a 5 star review is Susie Hartfield. I purchased a playing lesson at an auction fundraiser event and she went above and beyond and personalized a lesson package for me and she improved my play 1000%. My husband is in awe of some of my chipping and pitching. I was never one to keep track of my score but absolutely would do now. Whether you are a beginner or every day golfer looking for tips, Susie is amazing!

Golf carts are garbage. Labor Day we had 4 carts and 3 out of 4 were constantly beeping at us for being too close to the tee box when we were clearly on the cart path. The course was completely dry and it would beep at us to get back on the cart path. The carts ruined our day. When I stopped on my way out to complain I was told they were having issues with their geo fence. If you’re having issues, why wouldn’t you disable the system?

You can pay $1500-$2500 depending on your membership. Includes range but only if you have a tee time that day, no practice allowed on off days. Great course to play, good outings. As a member you are NOT allowed to make a tee time as a single, they will tell you walk in on the day you want to golf and then you get whatever is available. No driver or woods on range. If you have a membership no discounts at all available for food, merchandise or bringing guests. Practice area is all putting. They have a short hole with bunkers and fairway available for lessons only. You can find better member friendly options in the area.

Some of the best greens for a muni in the area/state.

Woods/ponds is an outdated course. Terrain makes some holes almost impossible to hold the fairway.

Played the established ponds and woods 9s. Wont be disappointed with this course having 45 holes. Green fees were decent. Small pro shop and ok bar area. The service was awesome....good food, great bartender, awesome starters, etc. Fairways cut well but some roughs were a little long; maybe due to late season as many courses seem to be doing that st this time. Greens in good shape. Older carts but ran ok. Challenges were fun....wait until the last 2 woods holes....watch your long shorts. Can't wait to go back and play the other 27 holes.

Enjoy playing this course, but last couple times out the rangers have been very nitpicky watching groups like hawks. Ranger comes up to us on back 9 fairway immediately assuming we paid for only 9 holes in an aggressive tone after running over my friends golf ball. Let us play and enjoy our round! If I'm spending $60 a pop coming out here, I don't want to be hassled by these weasels.

Same day took 6 hrs for a round of golf with 3 outting( according to him) but for some reason they let 4 walk ins before us????? Nice course but the people who run it are jerks. Was walking 9 holes and allowed a twosome in a cart on hole 6 to play through , they seemed in a hurry. Which is fine for me , i enjoy a relaxed round and admittedly am not jogging up to my ball between shots. Made a great par on hole 6. Anyway walking up to the tee on hole 7 , i was intercepted by the course ranger who acted like i was trespassing. He said i was not supposed to be on this 9 as they had some event. I was loaded into the back of a golf cart , and taken into the clubhouse. The starter seemed upset that i allowed a twosome to play through, thankfully i wasn’t handcuffed. In the end i was brought to another nine to finish a few holes , but.by that time , the fun and my best round of the year was over. Too bad , seems like a nice layout. If you like feeling pressured and rushed while you are golfing, this is the course for you.

Yeah, that was my ball that Ranger Roy drove over. How obnoxious it is to have Little Red Ranger drive over to us and accuse us of not paying for 18. He said it only shows that we paid for 9. Idk what the problem is with this course lately but for him to drive over and pester us about their inability to know what’s going on is insulting. And this was today.
Last Friday a ranger drives up to me while I’m on the fairway of 14 getting ready to hit and asked me for my cart number. What is going on here? I’m confused why the ranger is interrupting my round with such ridiculousness.
Also I’ve had 3 rounds of golf ruined in the last month from the sprinklers turning on while we are on the green.
We golf here once or twice a week but I think that’s over with. It’s become an unpleasant experience.

I and a friend played here this afternoon, but they Booked us for the wrong time over the phone which meant that we had to pay more because we were booked for five minutes before their rates got cheaper… They wouldn’t let us change, and we’re super rude when we asked to wait five minutes to get a lower rate… Overall, terrible experience. Will not be coming back, and will be Sharing my bad experience with my network of golfing friends.

I called ahead at 9 am and booked over the phone for 5:44 pm, but they booked me instead for 5:25 for some reason, likely because their rates lower at 5:30 for the “evening rates”.… when i told them the situation (essentially that they booked me for the wrong time) they wouldn’t allow me to wait 5 minutes to get the “afternoon” rate (maybe a 8-9 dollar difference).

They demanded I pay immediately or leave, so i and my group paid what they demanded. We got to the first tee, and someone with a clipboard said that we couldn’t play because I wasn’t on their clipboard sheet.

Overall, the workers were very rude, and the overall experience was just pretty terrible. I’ve played many courses in the area, and this is not a bad quality course, but the quality of worker that you’re forced to interact with results in an experience that most would like to avoid. I and my group play a ton of golf, but we will definitely not be coming back here.

Life is too short. Avoid this course.

We played the Ponds/Woods course and loved it. We'll definitely be back!
Be prepared - right after a heavy rain a few of those fairways can almost be ponds.

Never played the course before today, very challenging on a 90 degree day, to say the least.

I love this place it is so fun but not when two people are golfing so fast that they're right up on you and I am not very good at golfing but I'm still working on that.

Never have had a bad experience at a golf course (minus my golfing) until Kettle Hills. The head ranger continuously harassed our group to play faster even though the course was booked full. He was not shy about cussing at our group which happened to be the last group, challenging some player's skill level during their swing, and questioning his sobriety. How is this guy your HEAD ranger?? Do not come here with a large group. Owner was a good guy though and it was a well kept course.

The starter was very rude and yelled at us for being "late" to our tee time. You are told to show up no more than 10 minutes early but yelled at for being late when you are at your cart 5 minutes early... There was no respect shown from the starter or clubhouse employees while getting the cart keys. Very rude with poor customer service. I would not recommend nor will I be coming back.

Ponds and Woods was a challenging and well maintained course. On a busy Friday, the four of us played at a reasonable 4 hours. Great staff.
For an average golfer, bring extra balls!!

Golf facility is fantastic, and when you're done stop in the bar and order the burger, best ever!!! Let alone at a golf course. Jenny will hook you up.

Had a lady starter on 10-8-2017....very rude. Had a tee time set up for 2 players and got to the starter and she said she was going to pair us with another group of two a couple of tee times ahead of us because they were all backed up. I asked if I could just wait for our normal tee time because the others were apparently heavy smokers...nothing against anyone but it physically affects me and gives me one major headache. I explained that to her and she said, too bad...you are outside and we have the right to do this. I explained again that it seemed to me there were a lot of twosomes out there and I would prefer to wait for my normal tee time. She only relented when I finally said that I would just leave then. Kettle Hills...suggestion, find a better starter and get a ranger out there if you are having trouble with slow play.

We held our church golf tournament here this year and were pleased with: 1) condition of the course; 2) courtesy and professionalism of the staff; and 3) help with setting up the tournament and use of facilities. We plan to be back next year.

I golfed Kettle Hills last Saturday. This was the first time I've ever played there. I was very impressed with their customer service and the quality of the course. They seem to have created a nice culture there. When I called to make the tee time they were very friendly. I liked the email confirmation as well. They spoke to my father-in-law about his rain checks and they were very friendly to him as well. I think the price was a little bit higher than some but I would pay the few extra bucks because the service was so good and the course was in great shape. You can tell that people care there because the greens looked great. You know the players feel cared for because they seem to do a good job of fixing their ball marks, etc. I overheard one of the employees tell a group "thank you for playing Kettle Hills" as the group rode to the first tee. That was nice! It cost nothing for the employee to do that and it make a huge difference! Some courses just don't understand how easy it is to say something like that and how much better it makes it for the players! One suggestion for the course is to please remind the beverage cart driver to please look around before driving off. Twice she started her cart right in a players backswing. A quieter beverage cart would be nicer if possible as that thing sounds pretty loud coming through. This is my first time playing the course and I would definitely go back because of the great course and the great service. FYI, the course is a bit narrow so bring extra golf balls. I do wish there was a safe way to communicate to the group behind when it’s clear to drive on a few of the shots where you had a blind tee shot. One last thing. It had rained overnight when I was to play the next morning. I called in the morning around 6:15am for my 8:08 tee time. The person answering the phone knew exactly what the cart policy was going to be and he knew the course was open and he knew the shape the course was in. You call some courses and they won’t even answer the phone that early. Nice job Kettle Hills!

A variety of great layouts on each nine hole experience. The most prominent thing about this place is the ownership. The Zimmerman's (owners) attitude toward their employees reflects on the way they treat each and every golfer that visit. Best overall experience I've had in the 20 plus years and 50 plus courses I've played. Excellent to say the least!

Golf here quite a bit since it's only 100 yards away from me. Gets a lot of use but they somehow manage to keep it in good shape. Couple of the holes are annoyingly laid out on Ponds/Woods. But a great golf deal. Was $16 for 18 holes of you tee off before 8am on weekdays.

This place is absolutely massive! I'm a fan of the hole placements and how well kept the grass is. The pro shop and restaurant/bar is well put together. It's not Erin Hills, but that's ok. It doesn't have to be. It's a local secret and I've always had a blast playing it!

Great course and GREAT for events! My family held a golf benefit for my mom at Kettle Hills and I cannot endorse them enough. As our planning took off they were flexible and accommodating to all of our requests and anticipated specifics we hadn't even thought of. On the day of there were over 400 people in attendance (over 250 golfing) and the entire day went smooth and without issue. Nick and the staff went above and beyond expectation to ensure the day was a success. They truly thought of it all and made my mom feel very special as the guest of honor. It was a deeply meaningful day for my family and it wouldn't have been possible without this extraordinary team. We also managed to double our fundraising goal! Thank you, Kettle Hills!
