i love my local keys. its normally universally excellent.

but? once in a while you order a thing and do not get what you expect. today, i ordered a scotch egg. if you read keys menu, it tells you what a scotch egg is. a scotch egg is a soft boiled egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried. this is what is on their menu.

today i ordered scotch eggs, and got back 2 sausage patties with an over easy egg over the top. i asked my waitress about it, and she told me that that is a scotch egg for them

but? it isnt. its sausage with an easy over egg on the top. its not a scotch egg, and its not what is on their menu, either.

i will continue to go there. i love the wait staff and it is by far the finest breakfast in hudson, wi.

but? when order a thing, you would like the thing described on the menu. if i wanted 2 easy over eggs on top of sausage patties, i could order that. but that item is not a scotch egg, and it should not be presented to customers as a scotch egg, when the menu describes a scotch egg in this way: boiled egg wrapped in Keys Italian sausage, rolled in seasoned panko then deep fried. Served w/ hollandaise and hash browns. you can see this on their online menu. its what i ordered today but is not what i was served.

Wanted a traditional breakfast place and the Keys did not disappoint. I ordered a sausage and gravy omelet which had biscuit and gravy over the top of the omelet. If I am in Hudson again, I will stop there for breakfast. Go early, the place was packed and there were guests waiting for tables. That is a good sign.

Anyone who knows me would know that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Since moving to New Richmond, WI I have not found a breakfast worth talking about. Until today….don’t get me wrong “The Oasis” and “Joseph’s” are good but not I could go every day good. “Not Justa tastes fake and everytime I go service is terrible. I like Keys, have eaten at the Woodbury location several times; they have great choices, good food, friendly accommodating staff. We ate at the Hudson spot yesterday. The server, Nick, a very nice job, was personable and helpful. I ordered the taco salad, which I have enjoyed at the Woodbury location, and which usually comes with a choice of chips or a tortilla "bowl". This one came with just the salad on the plate (nice mix of greens), no chips, no cheese. It was tasty, though and portion was ample. The server brought some chips when I mentioned it. My husband ordered a chicken caeser salad, and maybe due to a communication mix-up, his order came as a chicken wrap. Or maybe that is the way it is done now. He seemed to enjoy it. I think the restaurant must close between certain hours in the afternoon, which I had not noticed when we arrived. When we went to check out, I was deciding on some baked goods, and I got the feeling the check-out person was eager to move us on. Also, I ordered a slice of cake, and when I got home, it was not the one I had chosen. We will certainly be back, as the food was fine, but a bit disappointing compared to earlier visits.

Food is adequate at best... Very very expensive !!. It's not a place to bring a small family of any size. If you're splurging for breakfast, it will leave a hole in the pocket without question. They also charge for the use of any credit card; I've been to many Keys prior, and frankly, I don't see why I would go back for average food in a strip mall. Bakery and pies are good, however. Breakfast with tip was $25.00 for one meal. Like a bowl of oatmeal...$9:00 raisins extra. You will feel like you paid way too much when you leave.

My girlfriend, her girls, and I went to Keys Cafe yesterday, late morning. There was no wait time which was great. We picked our own both and sat down. There were menus placed at the booth already, but right next to an actual lit candle. My girlfriend grabbed one of menus and burnt her finger because the outer cover was actually melting from the candle.

The food was expensive, but it wasn't anything special. The hash browns looked old and over cooked. The mash potatoes were dry.

The bill came to $60 something and after tipping it came to $76 dollars. We looked at our bank account this morning and noticed Keys Cafe did about a $20 hold on the debit card used, and they state that amount will be put back into our account in 3 business days.

My questions are:
Why do they pull extra money out? It is not a hotel
Why is this allowed?
Why don't they inform their customers?

I will never go back to Keys Cafe.

Anna was a GREAT waitress and took wonderful care of our family. We’d come back in a heartbeat just to be waited on by her. Good service really can make up for lots of things :).

The food, overall, was good. However, they went 0/3 on trying to get me a medium rare burger. That was disappointing, and everytime the burger came out, it tasted different and was way overcooked. With that being said, their blue cheese dressing is the best I’ve ever had so that was a plus!

And, lastly, my daughter who is a mushroom fanatic loved their sautéed mushrooms.

Bonus. The warm cinnamon roll was delightful as well

This is a place that is well-known for breakfast. A favorite spot of mine for omelettes and pancakes as big as your head!
They are not well-known for their lunches/dinners that I am aware of. With my experience today I understand why. French Dip was a bit bigger than a slider, not a lot of flavor. Potato chips were good. Side salad was underwhelming.

Unfortunately I'm changing my previous 5 star review to a 2 star review. The experience at keys cafe has gone downhill. I'm sitting here eating my breakfast right now and my omelet is significantly smaller than it used to be and more expensive. I got the cheese omelet and I struggled to even find the cheese in it. The bacon tastes like it was just sitting out for a while. The last few times we have come to keys we have not been impressed. So this will be my last time as a previous regular.

I’m gonna start this review what’s saying I love keys, and I’ve been to the Saint Paul and Woodbury location and they are great. However, I tried ordering today for lunch. My order was canceled on the website and then I tried calling, and the woman said she was too busy, and there’s too long of a line to place our order, so she would call us back. Disappointing! I just want lunch :(

Edit: replying to the unprofessional response from the owner… what is always great is the OTHER LOCATIONS. Not this one clearly. The woman “taking our order” never called us back. We were trying to eat local that day and not at a fast food chain. Great way to lose customers.

Famous in germany already. When my parents came back from their trip, they told me about their amazing experince in this bakery.
They also apparently witnessed when the owner donated a 1000 bucks just out of kindness of their heart. My mother insists that she could taste that love for the world in the goods.

We love keys cafe in Hudson Wisconsin for their breakfast and lunches. We went here from Mother's Day - food came out hot and delicious. Best breakfast in town. Make sure to experience the outdoor patio - that's wonderful with the flowering cherry trees. The only entree my family won't order here is biscuits and gravy because the biscuits are simply way too hard. We hope they go to a softer biscuit because we would love to try them again.

Worst place to ever deal with!!!! Three weeks plus dealing with Makenzi Hunn about our daughter’s 18th Birthday Cake only to show up and it wasn’t there. Nobody knew where it was or what to do. Nobody offered anything to help. Left with no cake. Pathetic. Never ever trust them!!!

Just had breakfast today. I haven’t been to Keys in a long time and was surprised that they remodeled. We sat at the bar since the wait was long. In fact we waited awhile for our order because it was that busy. My daughter enjoyed a huge pancake. I ordered a Mexican omelette which was not my normal breakfast. Expectation verses reality: the Mexican omelet was smothered in way too much chili, too much for my liking. The toast also arrived cold. I was disappointed in breakfast, it felt like I ate lunch. Next time I will go back to my usual breakfast of scrambled eggs and hash browns.
