We just hosted our wedding block at the Kimpton and they exceeded every expectation we had! The staff was amazing, Matthew on the Guest Services team provided the best customer service I have experienced in recent memory going above and beyond on several occasions to create a great experience! 10/10 across the board .

A big disappointment. What a dump. Rooms are outdated, furniture stained, mattresses work out and both robes in the closet had snags everywhere. Don’t waste your money.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable! I loved that it's dog friendly and all the little dog statues and water bowls. We felt very safe and liked that the elevators have card access to room levels. I would highly recommend!

The hotel was really a disappointment. It is highly overrated and not worth the exorbitant rate we were charged. The room was small and a bit cramped. The bathroom was ordinary, at best and although generally clean, there was brown scum around the base of the glass shower/tub enclosure. The “mood” lighting in the bathroom was impossible for putting on makeup. The service at the front desk was superficially polite, but indifferent when assistance was requested. The cost of parking was extremely high, even for the downtown area. The best part were the valet parking attendants, who were friendly and great.

Not the best stay. We came here years ago when the property must have been newer, but typical to the Kimpton chain everything is trendy and nice at first but the finishes and hardware are too cheap to hold up longer than a few years
-in room dining and restaurant buttons on the room phones ring off the hook. Set up a voicemail or reroute to front desk if these services aren’t available. Also have hotel staff notify you on checking in or provide a card in the room if these services aren’t available. Why should I have to guess?
-rooms are completely dingy and need fresh molding and paint (every wall is scuffed, paint chipping everywhere, bathrooms also need recaulking- everything is stained moldy)
-room was so dusty, including bathroom. Sad that dusting is something management has not given their staff time to do between guests. This dust has been there a while.
-sheets are torn up and pillow cases had holes in them
-the carpet has a ring of caked dust around the perimeter of the room
This was room 733 for internal reference. There’s not many options in Milwaukee but this isn’t one of mine anymore.

I love a boutique hotel and this is a boutique. I am going to be very fair from start to finish. We reserved early and paid in advance. Like most good boutique hotels it is not inexpensive. Location is excellent. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. The room we were given was 534 and one of the worst views in Milwaukee. That was big negative given that we booked early and paid in advance at an high rate. ($800+ for 2 nights total) The bed was great. The furniture in the room was mismatched and looked purchased from resale shop. Bathroom very nice and functional. Room size deceiving because it is mostly interior hallway. If you have a line of people trying to use your bathroom this is a good one. Walkability was a 10. Top notch. Rooftop bar is a must. Odd thing was very little service Friday at happy hour time. Crowded, understaffed....we left. Other two times there were fantastic. Servers nice during those times. We had a nice experience with Amanda who helped me with some things I left behind. She was so nice and very helpful.
We loved the Third Ward District. The Journeyman was nice. 534 was depressing but in general it was a good stay. You could make the case to stay elsewhere and visit The Journeyman rooftop, but I have not stayed elsewhere to say for sure. In general, we really enjoyed our Milwaukee weekend and everyone was nice.

We had such an amazing stay here! The staff truly goes above and beyond—everyone we encountered was so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spotless, updated, and have a modern feel that made us instantly comfortable. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous, with a cozy fireplace and even a pool table that gave the space such a fun, inviting vibe.
Another highlight is that the hotel is connected to a restaurant and bar with incredible food—you can even charge meals straight to your room, which made everything super convenient. On top of that, the location couldn’t be better. Right in the heart of the Third Ward, you’re surrounded by shops, restaurants, and plenty to explore within walking distance.
Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Milwaukee—we’ll definitely be back!

The staff was so friendly and professional. Front desk was awesome, the rooms were great. The bar on the roof was spectacular! |I also used the valet service. All of them were awesome. |I must say though, the young man Eugene was spectacular and inspiring. Even though He was wearing a boot and even though he tried to hide it was obviously in pain, He was very professional and helpful. He still did his job and did it well and even helped load up our bags, which I felt bad for but he insisted. He encouraged me in a way. He refused to allow anything to stop Him from moving forward. Those were his words to me and he showed it by his actions. And he did it all with a smile and class! This guy is amazing! He truly is an inspiration. He surely was to me!

We loved our time here although we would have paid for an upgraded view. The Historic Third Precinct is a beautiful place, the River Walk was delightful. The restaurant and bar in the hotel were fabulous. We have stayed at a couple other Kimptons in Denver, Colorado and this hotel was a bit more welcoming and did not nickel and dime you. We sat in the roof top bar and watched Monday Night Football, an experience in itself. Kimpton does a great job with their architecture and interior design. There are less expensive hotels near the airport, but you can easily catch the train to Chicago from here.

⭐ Kimpton Journeyman Hotel Milwaukee – Honest Review ⭐
I checked into the Kimpton Journeyman at nearly 2 AM, choosing this property for its reputation, location on 31st St., and restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I was placed in a disabled-accessible room (which I often prefer for the extra space), but the room was musty, dark, and smelled strongly of dog. The lighting was so poor I recommend bringing a book light if you’re visually challenged.
When I raised the issue, the very kind front desk staff explained that every single room at this Kimpton allows pets—meaning there are no pet-free rooms. 🚨 This is a huge concern for anyone with serious allergies or asthma. Guests should not have to risk their health, especially when traveling late at night. The staff suggested I go to a nearby Holiday Inn Express instead, which felt unsafe as a woman alone in a new city at 2 AM.
After calling IHG on speakerphone in the lobby, the front desk offered to “deep clean” a room for me while I waited with champagne. While the gesture was appreciated, the new room still had a musty fog and lingering pet odor. At that point, exhausted and here for my grandmother’s care, I simply needed rest.
The restaurant had great seating and natural light, but the food was bland and forgettable, and the bartender focused too much attention on one guest instead of balancing the bar.
On checkout, the staff were sweet and discounted my first night, which I appreciated. Still, I left surprised that a hotel at this level does not have dedicated pet-free rooms or at least a pet-free floor for guests with allergies. It shows their ability to fix small issues (like offering a deep clean and discount) but also their inability to solve the bigger systemic problem that impacts guest health and safety.
👉 Milwaukee travelers: If you have allergies, sensitivity to odors, or expect culinary excellence, be cautious. While the staff are kind and the location stylish, this property falls short in areas that matter most for health, safety, and dining. No photos necessary.

Excellent service, great location and okay rooms. Check-in was a breeze, the front desk people were top-notch and my room was not bad, but for a luxury hotel, not exceptional either. Comfy bed, good pillows and a great nicely laid out and modern bathroom helped mitigate that somewhat, and — bonus —- there’s a happy hour downstairs in the lobby every evening at 5. Nice! The amenities are proper, with a well equipped fitness center (weights, treadmills , machines, etc) and the rooftop bar is pretty sweet as well with a dim, loungey sexy vibe.
You’ll pay though — none of this stuff comes cheap.

I booked a package suite for my son’s wedding night that included “chocolate and bubbly” delivered to the suite. Three days later I spoke to my son and learned that it was not delivered. I called the hotel to informed them; and was questioned over and over. Basically, the person who answered the phone did not believe me. I told him how disappointed I was in their service and hanged up.
I understand the room was beautiful. And I am glad my son and his wife enjoyed it. I am just extremely disappointed with their customer service.

Stepping into the journeymen you may think, “wow what a great spot” alas upon entering your room, walking to the bar or restaurant your brain turns on and says, “oh my gosh this place is cheap, what have I done?” Then you are stuck. I don’t want you to be stuck. Do not stay at the journeymen. It is for pets. If you are reading this you are not a pet and unless you would like to smell like or drink out of a dog bowl you can find better in downtown Milwaukee.

Decided to stay here after a horrible experience at the Marriott on the street over during my last stay in Milwaukee, and boy I’m glad I stayed here! The front desk staff was very pleasant and friendly. Happy hour at 5pm every night was a perk! The valet attendants were excellent and very prompt. The location in the Third Ward was a great convenience because everything I needed was within a 5-10 minute drive. The room was clean and I was able to adjust the temperature to my comfort level. I will say, the only downside would be that the shower did not have a door? It was an open concept to the rest of the bathroom, so it was a rather chilly shower.

We did an early Christmas celebration with my mother-in-law and stayed at the Journeyman because it was the perfect location for restaurants and enjoying the 3rd Ward.
Our rooms were nice. We were in room #334 which did not have a great view but the room more than made up for that. Valet was quick to bring our car around and staff was very friendly. We enjoyed drinks in the first floor restaurant before heading across the street for dinner. It appeared there was a large group staying at the hotel (wedding party maybe) and I was a little concerned about noise but aside from hearing a few doors closing, it was a very calm, quiet stay. Will definitely make this my 1st choice for hotels next time I'm in Milwaukee.

I had the pleasure of attending a company holiday event at this hotel the evening of 12/7/2024 and I wanted to take the time to give a short review to extend my deepest thanks to the entire staff at the Journeyman, but most notably a few folks that stood out all weekend with their tireless service and assistance to our entire group.

Unfortunately my stay at Kimpton Hotel was far from perfect.
First of all our check in was 3 hours late, after we were told it will be only be a few minutes.
Secondly, I had 2 people arriving later next day, so I was told to leave their names with front desk person, which is exactly what I did. When my friend got there she was told that they couldn’t locate her name in the system.
Thirdly, when i asked them to clean the room and replace towels before my friend’s arrival, they got it done 6 hours later, which is kinda ridiculous. When i thought things can’t get any worse, we found maid’s fake nail on the mattress under the sheets.
If this how things are done in 4 start hotel, that is a shame.Thank you Kimpton for making my first time experience staying in Wisconsin such a disappointment.

I only stayed here one night but everything about this hotel was welcoming and inviting. The front desk staff were efficient and very helpful. The decor of the hotel is busy but it works for the demeanor of the place. You can lounge, you can socialize, or you can make out on the rooftop with great views of the city. Either way this place feels like home.
Any hotel with a robe and yoga mat truly wins me over to be honest but the only thing missing was a mini fridge. They offer $7 water in your room and thats just rude. You might as well drink out of the toilet if you’re that thirsty. This is a pet friendly hotel, so the food bowl with the dog stand isn’t just decor. If I stayed longer I would’ve had it removed tho.
All in all, I would stay here again and I would definitely recommend this to others. The location is great, I walked everywhere I needed to be and it’s right in the heart of whats to do in Milwaukee. Thank you for a comfy stay!!

Stayed here for a few days in early September and had a wonderful stay. Staff was friendly, there are 2 restaurants including a rooftop bar on-site. Plenty of scooters around to get around the city. Very close to the riverwalk. Beautiful hotel and they have a happy hour with free wine for guests every evening.

I wish I could give them more than 5 stars for service. I've never experienced such friendly people who go out of their way to care for their guest's every need. They take pride in the place being spotless and comfortable. I can't even count the number of times one of them stopped to see if I needed anything anytime I looked even the littlest bit lost or wanting. Can't say enough positive about this place. Well done! And bravo!

I’ve stayed at lovely Kimpton hotels in DC and Denver, so when I saw there was one in Milwaukee I was excited to book it. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this location. Our room was sad, no view and the room was generally beat up. The shower didn’t drain, the clock was wrong, the walls were scuffed up. I tried to call the front desk for something and it just rang and rang, no answer. Very disappointing for a $300. It’s saving grace is the location, which is unbeatable.

My husband and I stayed at Kimpton Journeyman for labor day weekend and it was overall a really good stay. The restaurant, Tre Rivali was absolutely delicious every time we ate at it. I'd highly recommend it, especially the pizza. The restaurant staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The front desk staff was also very helpful and kind. We did use valet parking because we didn't want to fuss with having to find parking, and it went well when we needed to get our car. The only negative about our stay was housekeeping. Our first night, we had a lot of leftovers in the fridge and a few drinks from home. We had housekeeping come in on Saturday morning, and when we returned Saturday afternoon all of our food and drinks were gone. I don't know if the staff thought that was our last night there? But even so, if the food wasn't on the garbage can, it isn't garbage. The fridge did have a strong smell when you opened it because we had a lot of different kinds of food in it, but again, it was from that evening prior so, not garabge. And maybe this is normal for a higher end hotel but they touched and moved almost all of our belongings, our suitcases, dirty clothes, toiletries, pills etc. Maybe that's normal, again, I don't know haha. So after that we put the do not disturb sign out. Then, on Sunday we heard keys jingling outside our door. So, without knocking and saying "housekeeping" and waiting for a response, a housekeeper walked into our room and as he was walking in, then announced himself and realized we were still in the room. This was with the DND sign on the door. This next part didn't bother me too much because I assumed it was just makeup or something that stained the comforter, but there were a lot of light brown spots on the comforter by the head of it. Again the hotel itself was great, but housekeeping kind of spoiled the trip just a bit. Not saying this is an all the time thing, it was clearly a very busy weekend with everything going on so it could've been a once off. I might stay here again at a less busy time of year.

We decided to stay here for our 15th anniversary. The hotel was super clean, friendly staff and in a great area! If you stay here, there are plenty of food options within a 5 min walk! Would definitely stay here again! The king suite with the soaking tub was nice after a day of exploring the area!

I brought my business partners here, and the experience was far below expectations. We waited over 30 minutes just for our drinks, and when we decided to do a round before leaving, we stood at the bar for an unacceptable amount of time with no other customers in sight. The bartenders were more interested in chatting with each other at the server well than serving us. The $15 per shot price is steep, but the lack of service was even worse. This was an embarrassing experience in front of my business partners. Do better with your staff. I won’t be returning, and I willl not recommend this place moving forward to any business partners, family, friends etc…

Overall, the hotel was good. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The location was great for walking to the events that were going on in the city over the weekend. For a "luxury" hotel the rooms left something to be desired. The room looked run down and worn out. The armchair had holes and stains. The dresser/wardrobe was scratched an dented, the matress had a pretty substantial divot on one side. The value was not worth it in my opinion. We were placed in a room right off of the elevators and the noise level was quite high from people coming and going. The elevator area had a terrible echo and made voices carry. The walls were not very thick, we could hear the television in the rooms next to us when they were on. The rooftop bar had a large line outside the front door on Saturday evening upon our return, so we went down the street to get drinks. It seemed that this may be because the rooftop bar was the only place in the area open late.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and this is our go-to for an overnight in Milwaukee! The location of this hotel in the third ward is great for getting to the locally shopping and dining scene in this area.

WOW .. an amazing visit. I love Kimpton's and the Journeyman is no exception. What I loved the most about this one (I mean everything is top notch, but if I had to choose just one thing) was the people. Everyone, I mean literally every staff person .. Valets, Reception, Cafe staff, House Keeping .. made us fee welcome and relaxed. A special shout out to Orlando in Tre Rivali for making us smile when we had had a stressful night before of travel. And then the next day??? He remembered us AND our order and asked if we wanted the same .. which we did. I wanted to take him home.

My husband & I had the pleasure of spending our 3 yr anniversary here last week for a couple nights and I can't stop thinking about how WONDERFUL this stay was! The entire time there, the employees were extremely courteous and friendly! We had a delicious breakfast in their main restaurant, had cocktails w/ stacks on the rooftop and please take advantage of the 5-6pm happy hour to try some drinks & meet other guests!
I do have to share, the mattress in our room was the most comfortable mattress (& pillows) I have ever slept on with all the traveling I've personally done! The hotel is perfectly located off to the side of all the walkable market/restaurants/shops so wasn't too noisy with traffic either! Will 100% be back in the future!

Traveling with friends to Milwaukee - they booked a few days earlier than me for one evening and now that I'm trying to book Kimpton won't accept our stay as a minimum stay and said I needed to book an additional evening - where I can't use the room. No thanks Kimpton, I'll go down the street - here in Milwaukee and in other cities. Not great for brand loyalty.

My go-to when I stay in MKE's historic third ward. The aroma from the wood fired smoke pizza oven in the restaurant may put some off. Just keep that in mind. When you hit the lobby you'll know what I am talking about. Roof top bar a plus. Valet was super fast! Any faster and they would have been bringing the car to the room.

The location is one that must be experienced firsthand to fully comprehend the ambiance. The rooftop area, while admittedly crowded on a Friday evening, offers a pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit. Consider booking a room to fully enjoy downtown Milwaukee. ✨️

They are super racist don’t go here if you’re black they may have black workers but that will profile you like crazy was waiting for a friend who was staying here and they called security on me just for standing there calmly. Be safe out here they don’t like us but they will take your money I’m sure. They made me so uncomfortable and unwelcome that I didn’t even want to stay there at all after that. They even went as far as to force me to wait outside for my friend for no reason. NEVER again nice but if you’re a person of color spend your money else where they’ll profile you!

We stayed for 1 night, beautiful hotel. We enjoyed the social hour in the lobby with wine, beer, and pizza. It's within walking distance of several bars, brewerys, and a sushi place. Room was spacious and clean, we had a wonderful corner view. Lois was the absolute best at reception!

My husband and I always have the most magical stays at this hotel!!! This time Gabriele + Amber at check in were so helpful and so kind. We arrived right when happy hour was starting, so they checked us in super quick so that we were able to drop our bags and head to the lobby for delicious complimentary wine and pizza! In terms of location of this hotel, you can’t beat it- it’s walking distance to so many great restaurants and bars in the beautiful historic 3rd ward. I’m
Hoping to make our stay at Kimpton Journeyman an annual thing : ) The staff and accommodations at this hotel at 11/10!

Had a wonderful experience at the Kimpton! Everyone was super friendly and attentive. Love the decor in the rooms. The California King bed is super comfortable. Tre Rivali was excellent (I'll write a separate review). Did go to the rooftop after dinner but it was packed with 20 somethings... Looks like it would be great to sit up there before it becomes a standing room only. The area is super cute. Highly recommend this hotel! (Oh and front desk will give you a small bottle of water per guest if you ask)

The Kimpton Journeyman provided a centrally located hotel for a quick weekend trip to Milwaukee and one that was exceptionally clean, updated and staffed with friendly and professional team members.
Room 333 was spacious, generally quiet, and well furnished and decorated. The bathroom was clean and had excellent water pressure. Towels and toiletries well stocked.
Service was friendly without being overbearing. Check in was quick and informative with the front desk staff briefly sharing information about the hotel amenities and services. The valet/bellhop team always offered a friendly greeting. As with other IHG properties, any needs were quickly addressed if I sent a text to the front desk.
Coffee in the AM and wine and beer in the PM were offered in the cozy lobby, which features a pool table, two gas fire places, and plenty of comfortable sitting options and areas. The onsite restaurant adjacent to the lobby and the rooftop bar, neither of which I tried, appeared nice. During a ride share trip, the driver had good things to say about the rooftop bar.
The location of the hotel, in the Third Ward, provided for many coffee spots, restaurants and upscale shopping options.
One star was subtracted from this review for the room not being cleaned or attended to on the second night of my stay. This, unfortunately, occurred despite the fact that I had checked in with the front desk to make sure housekeeping was happening daily (post-COVID precaution I now take) on two separate occasions. The staff were apologetic when this was brought to their attention and that was appreciated.
Stay details: March 8-11, 2024. Adult male couple. IHG Gold status. Weekend trip.

This property puts service, back into the service industry!
The Mrs & I are about a 10X return leisure customer here. We were WOWed once again on this weeks stay. ( we tend to travel off peak)
I don't know where the Milwaukee location gets these engaged, professional, happy employees ?! (We've been to approx 10 Kimptons in the USA , and travel in hotels approx 80 nights a year.)
Its an expense, but many Hotel operations have a well furnished, and appointed facility; this staff separates them from all.
Thank you Journeyman Team, you should be proud.
