One of the best takeouts since The Asia House was here. Only dined in once and it was a little slow, but food well worth it. The ONLY Chinese we love!

I grew up loving this place for the past 29 year and now panda express is gourmet compared to the meal I have tonight ragoons smell like stale cigs and over cooked, the beef and broccoli had so many vegetables in it it barely has the 2 ingredients in the name and when you find the beef it's soo dry and stringy and the broccoli was extremely freezer burned and don't get me started on the smell of the restaurant inside

Yikes, talk about a downgrade. The orange chicken more closely resembled calamari, in look, taste, and texture - totally inedible, wouldn't be surprised to hear they're says old. The egg rolls had a flavor I've never known egg rolls to have. Fortunately the pan friend noodles were OK, so I didn't have to rely solely on the one thing that couldn't be screwed up - the fortune cookie - for calories.
The interior had no AC, no open windows, nor any turned on lights, and would otherwise feel abandoned if not for the sole front of house worker.
Sorry, Kim.

Save your money. Ordered the dinner for three and was very disappointed for the price. The entrees were loaded with vegetables and a few pieces of meat. Egg rolls were just cabbage, and the wontons didn't have any filling in them.

Still the same good food for many years.
Had chicken fried rice and chicken sub him, both were excellent.
Only complaint was the crabmeat way over cooked but stale and cheese was not edible.

The older lady taking orders and cooking the food was super nice. The heavy set man was rude because we asked for more sweet and sour sauce for the chicken. Even though we were charged for the large sweet and sour sauce

The flavor was great, but the meat to veggie ratio was definitely off. We ordered the beef and cashew dish and were surprised at how little meat there was in the to-go container.

Love Kims garden been going there for a long time. Under new owners, they have changed their eggrolls . No peanut butter. Peanut butter has been used as a binder in eggrolls for many years. Because of peanut allergies they stopped using it. They also use a skin and dipped before frying makes them tough and now flavorless. I asked and was told to order something else, rudely I might add. I was actually picking up an order the next day when I complained, and didn’t get eggrolls this time because there terrible. Are you going to stop putting cashews on the cashew chicken because of allergies?! Great food, eggrolls not so much.

Hard to describe how disappointed I am after nearly 30 years of going here. I took this to share with my girlfriend and was embarassed, trying to explain that it used to be so good, when in fact what was before us was chewy, dry disappointment wrapped in wontons.
The crab rangoon (normally the best I've ever had anywhere) had approx. 1/4 tsp of filling... I AM NOT EXAGERATING. Sesame chicken was thin strips over cooked and chewy like leather. I don't know what happened to the quality of this family run establishment, but please fix it. I have been a loyal customer for decades and this saddens me, truly. Please bring back the Kim's Garden I remember, because this was horrible.

First time here and Kim's Garden lives up to the name! Ordered Kung Pao chicken and ended up with hardly any chicken and a whole garden of veggies for filler. And not even good stuff.. Like a whole onion and bamboo shoots. Absolutely ridiculous.
Wife ordered sesame chicken and they forgot the sesame seeds.. Or maybe that's extra?
Definitely will not be returning for the $45 we paid for a shit meal. Go to Chen's Kitchen in Mukwonago for real Chinese food.

The woman who took our order on the phone was so rude that I thought for a bit she might be a robot. This is the second time I have placed a phone order with this woman, and the last. The food has gone downhill since the last owners, whose friendliness and superb food made it one of our favorite restaurants. But since they sold to womever this is, the customer service is so awful that we will never go back. The behavior of the staff was so deplorable on these last two occasions, it makes me wonder if they're trying to get rid of customers. Next time it's chinese food night, it's Golden Gate or literally anywhere else.

Ordered takeout, got home and our container of sweet and sour chicken was less than half full. And the chicken we did get was cold and soggy. I called and was offered to be refunded for the $3 difference between the small and large size. It was wildly inconvenient for us to not have enough food to feed our family. Would have been nice to get refunded for the amount of the chicken ($13). Not only that, but the lady on the phone was rude. The rest of the food was subpar, definitely not worth the $50 we spent. Would not recommend.
Update- like many others have reported, they blocked my number. These people need a lesson on customer service.

t was simply an unremarkable restaurant, lacking any distinctive flavour. I wasn’t particularly impressed, but I wasn’t put off either—it just existed. Coming from outside the USA, I had expected more from American/ Chinese restaurants. However, not everything can align with our expectations...

Have been going to Kim's Garden for years. I have moved about 20 minutes away now. Called in a pickup tonight. When we got home the sweet sour sause was horrible for Sweet Sour Chicken. And the Chicken was very tough couldn't even finish it. We ordered a quart of Hunan Beef which ended being mostly peppers. They definitely have gone into the dumper. We will not be back. May be time to call it a career. I usually don't leave these, but this was beyond disappointing. Good Luck !!!

July 2024: Second time ordering from this place and both times were pretty bad. About 2 years ago I was served dry inedible chicken and the portions were way too small for the price. I was served small portions but charged for large portions. Since that happened it took me 2 years to give them a try again. and this time I came across completely different issues. I would change my one star review to a five star if they actually tweaked their recipes. Let me start off by saying the rice is authentic, it's not the plastic rubbery rice that most Chinese restaurants serve, it's legit real rice, and it's made the old fashioned way using bean sprout, scallion, and egg. Bravo for that. It was almost perfect! But whatever oil they use to cook that in it's like glue in my food. And when I stir the rice around I see stringy glue-like fibers. The oil is thick and gross they need to find a different oil to use for their fried rice. And that's the only thing stopping the fried rice from being a five-star dish. Now moving on to the sesame chicken. The sesame chicken has the potential of being perfect but they would need to change two things. For starters, the breading on the chicken was completely soggy and falling off! It's very unappetizing. But if they could somehow add a type of flour thats more firm to the recipe, that would make all the difference in quality! Lastly when it came to that chicken the sesame sauce was not thick and coating the chicken, it was liquid at the bottom of the to go container. It was pretty gross and because it wasn't thick and didn't stick to the sesame chicken my sesame chicken didn't taste sweet, didn't taste like anything but plain chicken. That was the worst sesame sauce I've ever had in my life. Maybe if they add some flour to the liquid and thicken it up it would hold good on the chicken. I would have to say overall that sesame chicken meal was ruined and gross, but has the potential of improving if they could tweak their recipe. And the slimy glue-like texture from the oil in the fried rice ruined what could have been the best rice dish ever. Please reformulate your ingredients and cooking methods. There's potential here but as is, the food was really disgusting.
My review from 2 years ago: Food here taste below average as the chicken was dry and hard to chew thru basically inedible, possibly from freezer burn. Also I'm feeling a bit taken advantage of, that I asked for the small portion of sweet and sour chicken, and the small portion of egg fried rice and was charged $20. I was in disbelief that those were the prices for small portions so I double checked by asking "are you sure that's for small portions" and she said yes. I'd hate to see what the price is for 2 large portions. 🤦
I don't ever remember paying this steeply for small portions at any other Chinese restaurant.
Let me know your thoughts on their prices.

Just gross. This place has gone extremely downhill and it's disappointing .We've eaten from Kim's multiple times each year since 2014, but haven't gone or gotten takeout in at least 2 years.. Cheap over breaded chicken with an off-putting taste, chunky filling in crab rangoon, etc. We should have taken "takeout only" as a signal things weren't going well there anymore. We will not be back.

I ordered a very large order to be picked up. We were told not to lay the bag down as something was not in a container with a lid. We got home, opened the sealed bag and found the hong su sauce over everything in the bag. They had put it on the bottom in the white container but put heavy things on top of it. This squished the sauce everywhere making that entree inedible. (We kept the bag upright as they told us to). We had to put everything else in Tupperware immediately since everything else was covered in sauce. When we finally got to eat after cleaning up the huge mess, the egg foo Jung was tasteless. We had asked for some sweet and sour sauce and not a single one was in the bag. Just a very big disappointment for ordering a large take out meal for a get-together. Will not order a large gathering meal from here ever again.

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. My husband has been a loyal customer to Kim’s Garden for YEARS. A few months ago he called to place an order for pick up. The first time he called they answered and then hung up. So he called back and they answered the phone saying “what do you want, I’m busy!” So my husband said “fine, I won’t order then” and hung up. They ended up BLOCKING his number and putting him on a ban list. Then recently my mother in law went in to pick up her order and they asked her if she was related to my husband. Are you kidding me?! What if she is…. Are you going to spit in her food? Seriously, YOU were the rude ones. I’m just mind blown a business would treat their customers like this. You lost a loyal customer that has been coming to you for years.

The food quality has definitely gone downhill over the past few years, and is mediocre at best now. The service is even worse. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. An 18% gratuity charge was automatically added to my bill without authorization for takeout!!!! I’m sorry, but I do NOT generally tip for takeout orders. That’s usually a big part of the reason to order takeout when I do, to avoid having to dish out the additional amount. For that, I would prefer to dine out and be served, which is not even an option at this location anymore, as they are still apparently all caught up in ridiculous covid precautions, four years after the fact!!! We ordered Mongolian beef, but received a dish dominated by bamboo shoots and pinions, lacking the expected beef. Despite my previous experience with and attempts at cooking Mongolian beef, this was a disappointing deviation. Hoping to support a local restaurant, we found ourselves hungry and dissatisfied—it turned out to be Mongolian veggies rather than the anticipated beef dish.

We ordered take-out last night. It was just fine and comparable to the very few Chinese food restaurants in the Waukesha area. Was it amazing or the best ever? It was good. It seems they are under new ownership and getting things figured out and I have noticed some changes. I definitely like the new owner's lo mein noodles better, much better. My wife wishes they go back to using straw mushrooms. We fed our extended family of seven and there were no undesirable issues. If there were, I would contact them directly and give them an opportunity before trying to destroy them. Kim's prices are lower priced and it reminds me of the mid to lower priced take-out Chinese places on the east coast.

Sometimes I love the food, sometimes it’s underwhelming. The times that it is good are what keep us ordering from there, but it can be a gamble on quality unfortunately. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon are always great- my favorite in town. I love the sesame chicken on good days, but sometimes I get it with mushy breading and lower quality chicken pieces. The sesame sauce is superb though! Online ordering is convenient and food is usually ready quickly and on time.

We were in town visiting family and ordered over $100 worth of takeout combined for our group. The sweet and sour chicken was hard, dry and flavorless. The szechuan chicken didn’t have a sauce on it and lacked both heat and flavor. The wontons tasted like they were fried in old oil. We threw most of the food away- that’s how bad it was. So my daughter use door dash for Kim's garden an this is the 1 place that never messed up orders an we only do Kim's garden when it comes to SFR/ BBQ NOODLE ETC.. well we accidentally thought our order was wrong so I called immediately an the gentleman I spoke with was very professional an wanted to find the mistake in case other orders were effected. It turned out we just ended up with an extre item which he said to enjoy on them an we would not see a charge for it as it was their mistake. Anyways Kim's garden has always been my #1 since I was in my teens now my 18yr old daughter can't get enough of them . I know Kim's garden has come under new owner in the last few years but to me they are still the same if not better.
P.s. to old owners they are upholding your name well.

We ordered weekly from Kim’s Garden for years. Since the new owners took over 2 yrs ago or whenever it was, the food has gone downhill & prices went up. We still continued to order. I always give a large tip even though carrying out, because there is never customers dining in & I felt bad for them. Today I ordered what we always ordered, the woman repeated back the order correctly. My husband brought it home 35 min away & 1 of the items was incorrect & smelled just awful! I called & the woman would not take responsibility for giving us the wrong order & would only exchange it if we drove right back to the restaurant now. We did not want to turn around & drive another 35 min. I asked if I could exchange it tomorrow. She said NO! Only today! Kim’s has lost a long time, loyal customer for an item costing about $10!! We are never going back. This shows how this restaurant really values their customers. THEY DON’T VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS AT ALL.

Really bums me out to have to make a review like this, considering that this Chinese food restaurant was my favorite since I was a kid, but nothing about it is the same anymore… :( Even one of the best things on the menu for me (the sesame chicken) is completely different. Instead of the delicious, dark brown sesame sauce that used to be on there has been replaced with some light brown, practically flavorless sauce that didn’t even cover a majority of the chicken. Hopefully the new owners take some notes from some of the reviews on here & make some changes soon, because I don’t see Kim’s Garden lasting for much longer if they don’t.

Tried Kim's takeout since or usual place is closed on Mondays. Orange beef, fried rice, and fried noodles with beef. Beef was oily, shriveled, low quality, and tasteless. The rice was not fresh, and neither were the noodles. We tried soy sauce, hoisin sauce, pepper, and nothing could turn it around. Utterly bland from the beginning and lackluster. I'm always one to give an honest try, and seldom have a bad review worth posting but they earned this one hands down. Five bites in... Done...

Pretty flavorless, took a lot of herbs and sauces at home to make this palatable. Very blah. The beef had a lot of oil sitting on it.

My kids wanted Chinese food one day for lunch. They ordered from Kim's Garden. Wow, it was terrible. No flavor. Will not be going back. Being new to Waukesha, we thought we would try out a local place.

Ever since it changed ownership in the summer food has not been good. Egg foo young had no flavor, fried rice was not even brown, and the egg rolls had a sour seasoning. Disappointed.

We've been going there since the mid 1990s. I Made a HUGE order for 8 people who knew the previously good quality that we used to get there. This time, the food was awful! Definitely not worth the time, gas, and money to go from Oconomowoc to Waukesha. I used to recommend this restaurant to people. Not anymore! Unfortunately, they'll NEVER see us again. What a huge disappointment! The statement that the food and quality would not change with the new ownership was a flat out lie! 🤮

I’ve been going here my whole life. It used to be something I’d brag about and look forward to at family gatherings but not any more. It’s been 3 times In a row now and the food is distinctly bad. I pay over 200 every time we go and just bland, minimal meat, burnt popcorn taste, and no longer worth the double price as somewhere else. I don’t Know what’s happened here but I will no longer be going. 200 pays for a lot of other good food. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 out of respect for how this place used to be.

Not good. The sesame chicken was sliced so thin and thick breading over it you couldn't tell it was chicken or meat At all. All sesame seeds were in one small spot. The water was not filtered. Tap water not acceptable in a restaurant.under staffed.eight people waiting for a cashier.

This place is delicious!! Best takeout in the area. I was a little hesitant because I saw a previous comment about communication barrier, but that person must just live under an ignorant rock. The food was delicious, the workers were super charming and friendly, this will definitely be my regular takeout spot!

Danny the owners son needs to learn customer service. Also , I ordered 30 dollars of food and he gave me one soy sauce pack. I asked for more and he told me he had to charge me. How is someone supposed to spread one little soy sauce packet across 3 dishes and who charges for soy sauce? If you are hurting that bad for cash maybe be nice to your costomers so they return. I will never go back to this place.

Terribly SLOW dine-in service even though we were first ones there. Out of four different entrees ordered, only one was decent, one was not eaten at all, one was partly eaten, and one made a person in our group very sick. They would not adjust our bill or offer to bring something else when we complained the entree was not good. Will not go back.

VERY sadly disappointing!!! I had two other family members each drive 45 minutes one-way to meet me so we could all try this restaurant for the first time. I was encouraged by the high reviews of past patrons, but I'm not sure what earned the high stars. The service was SO SLOW!!! We were the only customers inside initially, so no reason for the snails pace of both our waitress and cooks for refills of drinks, bringing out food, and checking on customers. They really don't write good descriptions of what's IN their food... if you've eaten elsewhere and expect anything resembling what you are used to, forget it! Out of the four of us, only one of us finished most of their meal- chicken fried rice. One person didn't eat theirs AT ALL-- it was supposed to be General Tsao's Chicken (photo below), but it looked and tasted very strange- the sauce seemed to be made of mostly vinegar with a few hot pepper flakes and had many different vegetables we've never experienced other restaurants ever having served in the dish (usually its just broccoli)- when we told our waitress, she simply said "I'm sorry," and walked off. She didn't offer to take it back to the kitchen, replace it with something else, or even remove it from the table since it literally sat UNEATEN. The other two dishes were the orange chicken and the combo lo mein. The orange chicken was mediocre- not terrible, not great. The lo mein was fair, noodles very oily and with virtually no flavor, and nearly all of that left uneaten, too. The dinners came with eggrolls--- its a good thing none of us were allergic to shellfish, because they all had shrimp (again, unadvertised as an ingredient and appreciated by only two of us.) We had to wait quite a while to get our check, and nothing was removed or discounted from the total after our we told the waitress the food didn't taste very good. We literally had nearly two complete, untouched meals, and one half-eaten meal, sitting on the table and the waitress did not even offer to-go boxes. Needless to say, it was a $60 mistake to eat at this restaurant. Save some money and get a much better meal at Panda Express just up the road.

The staff is really friendly, the portions are good for the price, and the restaurant is clean and well designed. The food takes a little while because everything is made to order. It's much better than the reheated stuff other places give you just to speed up service. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. It's easy to miss if you don't already know where it is. Make sure you use the west entrance, not the front door.
