I’ve been here a few times for both dine-in and takeout, and overall, my experiences have been very similar. The food is fantastic and flavorful, I’ve tried the lamb chops, mac and cheese, cornbread, fries, and fish, and everything has been delicious. However, I’ve noticed some inconsistency in the quality at times. Also fair prices for the meals.

The environment is inviting and comfortable, although a few times it’s been extremely cold inside... even the workers were wearing hoodies and sweaters.

My only real complaint is the policy of requiring customers to pay before receiving their food when dining in. I can understand this for takeout, but for dine-in, it feels unprofessional and takes away from the experience. It also discourages me from ordering additional items like desserts or extra drinks since I’d have to swipe my card multiple times. I really hope they reconsider this policy because it’s a great restaurant otherwise.

I ordered from King’s Kitchen: a wing dinner with greens and yams, plus a fruit punch Kool-Aid.

Food:

The chicken was the highlight , perfectly cooked and crispy. I asked for lemon pepper wings, but honestly didn’t taste any seasoning.

The yams were overly sweet, with no spice to balance them.

Instead of the greens I ordered, I was given cabbage. Unfortunately, it was just heavy on black and white pepper, with no depth of flavor. Definitely my least favorite.

The Kool-Aid was underwhelming , the powdered mix was more cool than cold, and very plain.

Portions & Price:

The portion size did not match the price. Four wings and two small sides (each barely a couple of spoonfuls) came out to over $20.

Wait Time:
The staff were great but the wait time was excessive over 20 minutes for a small order.

Cleanliness & Environment:
It’s a hole-in-the-wall spot, and if you know, you know. The order window was covered, but while it was open I could see behind the wall: uncovered liquids sitting out, seasoning and pans scattered around, and multiple bugs flying around in the back. Honestly, it didn’t inspire much confidence. A health inspector visit might be warranted to make sure things are up to code.

Overall:
Decent chicken, but everything else from sides to drinks to cleanliness left a lot to be desired.

I can see why it's called King's!! They really know how to throw down in that kitchen. My husband says "this is clean plate club right here" LOL
We got the soul bowls and shared and got the caramel cake before. Everything is delicious! Catfish, chicken wings, mac and cheese, greens, cabbage, sweet potatoes, corn bread, you name it!! I tried it all and love it all. Best soul food in Racine, hands down. God bless everyone working for King's and the owners

The dining In experience is very nice and inviting. The carry out at the back of the building is bare minimum and needs some TLC, better signage and a menu board.

The city or someone/employee should really remove the garbage from the front of the building. I understand downtown may be limited on space for the garbages, but it looks horrible. Also the lady at who answers at the window was really rude.

Never have I ordered here before and I wanted to try it until. The person (woman) who answers the phone place me on hold for about 6 min then comes back on the phone and say How may I help you, I asked what's today special and then the phone call ended. I called back because I felt maybe it was a dropped call, so same woman answered and I asked the same question as before and she states nothing. I asked what do you have and she states everything, so I'm like okay what would that be, she says greens cornbread fish things like that. I told her okay thanks and ended the call. Very Poor communication along with a little she acted like she really didn't want to be taking no calls or questions over the phone, so I decided not to order because of her responsive way when interacting over the phone.

Signage on the window is small and difficult to see from the street. Got my food promptly considering the how busy they were. The staff was very friendly and polite. And the best part, the food was delicious. Seasoned well and nice portions. I can’t wait to go back for other items on the menu. Well done. See you soon

The food is good besides my order being messed up. The service however is very poor workers are rude yelled at my friend simply because items were missing off their menu like half of his order had to be replaced because stuff was missing without them calling to let people know after waiting 30+ minutes and he cancelled his order. Secondly the kitchen isn’t filthy but most definitely needs to be organized properly and food stored properly

The young lady who answer the phone is rude and short. I’ve ordered here several times and my order is always missing something. They only spicy greens and cabbage not everyone eats spicy. But over all the other items on the menu are good. I suggest they work on their customer service because that could make or break a restaurant. I recommend you give it a try for yourself.
