First time at the Knotty Barrel, and we were very impressed. It was a Friday night and they were very busy. We got the last seats at the bar and had two different types of their fish fry. We had an uncommon Friday night out, and thought we would check out the new Knotty Pine…The rustic club atmosphere reminded me of clubs back in the big city. Everyone in our group had great things to say about the food, and the cocktails were high class.

We had such a great experience at The Knotty Barrel! The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the food and drinks were fantastic—but what really made the visit special was the outstanding service from Rick.

Rick was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. He had great recommendations and made us feel like valued guests the entire time. It’s rare to find someone who goes above and beyond with such genuine hospitality, but Rick absolutely did.

We’ll definitely be back soon—and will be asking for Rick again!

We were seated across from the salad bar/waitress station. They need to get rid of this table. We saw a waiter on the phone and eating right by the salad bar which needed refreshing. The cheese n eggs were empty n no one checked or cared. We did come in late to eat, around 8pm n they closed at 9pm. Just seemed like the staff was more interested in leaving for the night than being attentive to customers. We also heard wait staff talking about other customers at other tables which is not appropriate. Again, if the table we were sat at wasnt so close to the waitress station, we would not have heard. The food was good, nothing spectacular especially for the price. Please serve more beer cheese with the pretzels. I left thinking....who the heck is in charge here. Just seemed like a lot of young, immature kids working there. Will not be going back.

This is the first time we’ve eaten at Knotty Barrel and both service and food was exceptional. Cameron “Cam” the supervisor was very cordial and freindly. His attentiveness to make you feel welcomed was warm and genuine. Emma the hostess was just as pleasant as could be. It was also so refreshing to have had a dining experience that wasn’t hurried or rushed.

We’d never been to Minoqua before, but Cam at the Knotty Barrel made us feel right at home. Even after a small wait, he was overly accommodating and made every effort to make us feel taken care of. This was a difficult place to rate as there's tons of potential and the effort and environment are easily 5 star. The food has a little ways to go to match the rest of the establishment but I think they'll get there.

Pros:
* Service and seating were excellent.
* Super cool bar, building and atmosphere. Loved the decor and outside seating.
* Limited menu with good options for most tastes.
* Portions were perfect and left room for dessert.
* Speed was on point. Enough time to enjoy apps or salad and food came out quickly after.
* Bar and staff were top notch. Drinks were excellent. We didn't order one, but the ice cream drinks looked phenomenal and big enough to serve four people. Never seen an ice cream drink that looked like it just came out of an old fashioned malt shop.
* Good selection at salad bar.
* Our dinners were cooked correctly and well temped.

Cons: (being picky)
* Salad bar hood is so low you have to duck and reach to get anything from back row. Lady in front of us had to hold her necklace so it didn't drop into the dressing. Was a little funny.
* A few of the salad bar offerings were either gone or too low to grab. They did quickly replenish the lettuce when asked.
* Ordered the chicken piccata and blackened salmon. Both dishes were just ok. The chicken piccata was pretty bland and could use some seasoning but the frustrating part was none of the linguine noodles were longer than 3 or 4 inches so it was impossible to twirl and difficult to keep on fork lol. Lots of sauce left on the plate that could have been enjoyed with a baguette addition. Pasta and chicken were cooked well. Blackened salmon dish could have been excellent but there was little to no blackening and very little seasoning. The sauce and couscous were excellent.

We'll definitely stop again as overall it was enjoyable and worth a visit.

We were able to get 4 seats at the Bar, which turned out to be our good fortune! Bartender Jay was personable and funny! He also made cocktails with speed and skill! It was prime rib night so I went with queen cut , managed to eat half and it was delicious! Soup and salad bar was a nice surprise and very good too! With a smile and a description of their many ice cream drinks, we had to try one.
Watching him make up his concoction was half the fun and we did not leave a drop!!

Rolled into the Knotty Barrel Supper Club in Minocqua not knowing what to expect. From the minute we stepped in the door, the experience was fantastic! Jay the bartender/server knew everything about the menu and what beer to pair w/ the blackened walleye dinner. Two members of our party ordered the salad bar only and Jay set them up w/ extra large plates for it. Two other members of our party ordered fillets and loved them! We ate at The Knotty Barrel for the first time last night and we were pleasantly surprised. We reserved our table for 4:30 pm on a Sunday using the reservation system which worked well. My husband and I both had the filet with a baked potato. It was also served with roasted broccoli and salad bar. The food was delicious, especially the steak but the food was cold or barely warm. The salad bar was great but missing our favorite dressing which is french and the vegetable beef soup on the salad bar was outstanding. Drinks before dinner were great too as was the dessert. We will go again and hope for hotter food the next time. If you are in to ice cream drinks you should definitely have one. They look delicious. We may need to try one next time.

I had been here ONCE and now TWICE, THIS PLACE JUST KEEPS ON OVER PREFORMING MY EXPECTATIONS! The Brussel sprouts were still the best but the filet was out of this world. When some ask for rare most times it's over cooked, but omg they cooked it perfect. The cut itself was so tender and buttery. Crab cakes had more crab than anything else AMAZING. This is a nice addition to the Northwoods. The menu is smaller but thats probably due to them just opening and trying to get things up and running. I ordered the grilled salmon. It was pretty dry & well done and on the smaller side. It came with 3 strands of asparagus and I subbed a baked potato for the other option it came with. It also came with the salad bar. The salad bar was ok- I think it could use a few more items such as a pasta salad, cottage cheese, cucumbers, etc. but overall it was ok. The soup was very good. My husband had the blacked walleye. It was a bit on the dry side and over cooked, but a good size portion. It also came with asparagus and some potatoes. Our waitress was VERY attentive and super nice. All the staff was very nice. We might give this place another try if they expand their menu.

I want to start with the service and atmosphere. It was great! We did not make reservations and it was very busy. We did not expect to get in but we were immediately greeted by a very kind employee who found us a table.

The atmosphere is mostly how I remember it from the Brewery and Oakfire Pizza days. Which is awesome, it is such a cool building that deserves a great business.

The food was the underwhelming part of the experience unfortunately. The salad bar and soup was good. Our entrees, Chicken Piccata, was bland, kind of watery and the chicken was soggy. It wasn't inedible by any means but left a lot to be desired, especially for a restaurant with a very limited menu.

I really believe in reviews for the purpose of giving constructive feedback and would love to see improvements on a new business in a wonderful location. I would definitely like to give The Knotty Barrel a second try and update my review then.

Tried this place twice both times our steaks were not done probably. First time my wife’s stake was medium at best when it was suoooses to be medium rare and they corrected the issue immediately . This last time my prime rib which I always order medium rare was so rare it was cold and you can’t even cut it. They took it back and zapped it for a second brought it back and same results. It was obviously not cooked properly My 3 stringy white over cooked asparagus were not even edible, you would think you would cut the ends of them so they were not woody. The whole presentation was bad. We love the staff and atmosphere but paying 45 bucks for a steak not right and not right after the fix was disappointing. I felt bad for the waitress and wasn’t going to send it back again . I’ll be going elsewhere moving forward. Again I wish you great success as we love the place but we might have to wait for you all to iron out some minor issues. Good luck

No reservation, so we took a high top. Unfortunately it was located next to the salad bar, in the hallway, with the AC blowing 99mph right at us. Ordered the prime rib. The salad bar consisted of lettuce, and some very basic toppings. When our food arrived, it was luke warm. Thanks to the raging AC it was cold by the time I got even 25% done. Prime rib had zero flavor, and tasted even worse cold. Overall limited menu. Flavorless prime rib, cold food, poor seating experience..won't be back and will not recommend.

After seeing a review earlier in the year on a Facebook Reel, my husband decided this was where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner. We mistakenly did not have a reservation; however, we were immediately greeted by the Bar Manager, Jay, who quickly assured us he would serve and accommodate us in the bar. And boy did he deliver!!! We started with perfectly crafted cocktails (Old Fashion, New York Sour, and a Manhattan that’ll make you swoon) and the Maryland crab cakes that were to die for! We both had the beer battered walleye that was the BEST I’ve had north of Luigi’s II in Suamico (if you know, you know)! The salad bar was a wonderful addition to our meal, and one of the bartenders treated us to a sample of the grasshopper. Pro life tip: SAVE ROOM FOR A GRSSHOPPER! We can’t wait to go back! Our evening was amazing and the service was the best we’ve experienced in the area in a LONG time! We enjoyed Jay so much I’m not sure we’ll ever want to sit in the dining room! 5/5 ⭐️

Outrageous and unprofessional customer service.

Our experience at this restaurant was nothing short of outrageous and disturbing. From the moment sat down the service was disorganized and dismissive. We had to ask 3 times for the complimentary cheese and cracker basket. The salad bar was dark and looked questionable at best. The menu was extremely limited, and to make matters worse, they were out of two of the six entrees they offered.

Things took at turn for the worse when the manager falsely accused us of swearing at our waitress. Rather than approaching the situation calmly, the manager stormed over with a bouncer. Instead of escalating the situation she doubled down— she accused us of not only of verbally abusing the server, but also of switching seats to “confuse the staff” about who ordered what entree. The whole exchange was bizarre and hostile, making us uneasy enough that when the food finally arrived, we were genuinely worried about whether it was safe to eat.

As if that wasn’t enough, the situation escalated again when it was time to settle the bill. The manager rudely asked who was with whom for the check. When we explained the original server had already made note of that, she started yelling “You didn’t answer my question!”. As we attempted to explain it again, she repeated “You didn’t answer my question!” over and over. She then told us to leave immediately and refused to let us pay. We assume our bill for 8 was easily over $800 with food and drinks.

It did that end there. She followed us outside with the bouncer and watched our every move. She also wrote down our friend’s license plate number. Why?! I can only imagine what she planned on doing with it. The entire situation was threatening, unprofessional and completely unacceptable.

We left feeling stunned and completely disrespected. This was not just poor customer service—it was harassment. We will never visit this place again and would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone who values respectful service and professional management.

While we were there having drinks at the bar, we were told they were slightly short staffed and got hit with an unexpected rush of diners on top of that. To me, it seemed like the staff were doing a great job holding down the rush. Jay, our bartender, was super personable and held a conversation with us while making one old fashioned after the next, again and again -- all muddled, of course.

Food was great, and if you have to get only one appetizer, try the Cottage Fries. Cocktails were excellent!

Hostess was a little like a mama bear, but you know what? That's exactly the disposition you need in a host- she had her staff's back and was clearly trying to ensure they weren't further overwhelmed while being short staffed.

And Brian wouldn't take no for an answer, and made us an ice cream drink at the end of the night. He's charming and I could see customers coming back just for his personality.

I'd love to visit again with friends for drinks on the patio overlooking the lake!

Shockingly rude treatment by Kelly, the Sunday evening General Manager.

After placing our orders with Jessica and helping ourselves to the salad bar, Kelly approached our table and accused us of berating our server and making profane comments. We were astounded and told her so. Nothing could have been further from the truth. No one was rude, no one was inebriated, no one treated the server poorly. We were 11 harmless senior citizens together for dinner on Sunday night.

Kelly stated our actions could be verified by cameras and digital recordings. Our response is: Yes, please do! Please review the recording. We urge ownership to do just that to see how older customers are treated. In fact, we insist that you preserve any recordings for future legal action on our part if we discover our food was somehow adulterated as several of us now fear.

It gets better. When we finished our meal and prepared to pay our check, Kelly asked us to leave immediately without paying. Well…..OK, was she trying to make amends? After all, the bill could easily have been close to $1,000. We told her that wasn’t right and we wanted to pay for what we had eaten. She refused and then followed us outside to the patio as we said our goodbyes. She continued to follow us to the parking lot to write down our vehicle license plate number. What was her plan? To call the police and report that we had left without paying our bill? Had she asked, I would have gladly provided my name, address, and telephone number.

I am astonished at such behavior by any employee but especially by a manager. Much worse than any experience in New York or even Paris where we’re used to such things. But in Minoqua, WI? I cannot explain such bizarre and erratic action but I can assure we will never return, ever.

We walked in with no reservation, and four of us sat at the bar. I think that was probably good luck, so reservations seem recommended. They'd been open for 5 weeks as of the July 4th weekend when we were there, according to the bartender. As such, the limited menu is smart. I think people need to be patient...after all, this is largely a vacation town.

The drinks were superb, and definitely a highlight. Cocktails made the way they're supposed to be. We had the cheese curds, which we've had elsewhere, but if you know, you know. 3 steak filets were excellent, and the pistachio pesto pasta was also very good. I would certainly recommend this as more of a fine dining establishment without the pretentious nature, and a come as you are attitude.

Loved the atmosphere of this place though I suggest calling to make a reservation. The head bartender was great and made an amazing lemon drop martini; be sure to save room for one of their grasshoppers because they are HUGE!
This place also served the best crab cake I've had since leaving the East Coast, and they are certainly worth the price.
A few critiques, my brussel sprouts were very burnt and lacking bacon. The tangy sauce they were drizzled with was great. I also had the walleye with amazing flavor, unfortunately it was full of bones (I pulled out 10). We came on a Sunday and there was no soup at the salad bar, and I look forward to soup especially since it was advertised as homemade. Plus, you pay for the soup and salad bar as part of your entree so without the soup, for me it was a little disappointing.
Overall, very kind staff, very fast service, vibes were good. Hope this place stay around because I would definitely come back for drinks and the crab cakes.

We found this place from an Instagram reel showing the grasshopper drink, and came in looking forward to those. The food was excellent. Their salad bar has good variety with homemade dressings and croutons. We had the filet, salmon, walleye, and chicken dishes. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the sauce on both fish dishes was incredible. The drinks were excellent, the lemon drop martini is perfectly balanced. If you’re coming to dine, you can’t leave without trying one of their ice cream drinks. We tried the grasshopper and brandy alexander and they were HUGE, and so delicious; they’re definitely for sharing. The service is coming along, but they’re brand new and still finding their bearings; our server was very nice! We will be back again!

My family has been vacationing in Minocqua for over 30 years. We are always overjoyed when we see a new restaurant pop up in town. We spent our final night of the trip with two large tables at Knotty Barrel. The restaurant does a great spin on your classic north woods supper club. The cocktails were tasty, the cheese curds were great, we all enjoyed the salad bar and everyone loved their entrees. I’ll be thinking about that fish fry all summer! You should definitely get one of the classic ice cream drinks as well. There were a few issues with service/wait staff but that’s expected with a soft opening. Our experience overall was great and we look forward to dining in again next year.

Soft opening so expectations muted but experience was wonderful. Great atmosphere. I’ll be back for the Crab cakes! Wonderful big chunks of tasty crab browned to perfection. Hint of Worcestershire & white pepper.
Pistachio arugula pesto cream sauce was perfect.
Salad bar was good but not the centerpiece for our dinner.
Drinks were classics!

We made reservations and they seated us on at a table by the restrooms when we asked for a booth. Very limited menu. And they could not accommodate me with what I wanted. Brought the wrong drinks. When I was told this was a birthday celebration, they charge me for the extra dessert. Will never go back and with all the other places around, I do not think they will make it.

What a great time! We came with 3 kids and 3 adults and the experience was just pleasant from beginning to end. You could tell they are still working out some kinks but food was awesome, decorated so cute inside and great atmosphere. The salad bar was a huge selection! One tiny thing I’d suggest is keep up on filling the salad bar options - we dined around 730 on Friday and it was low on different toppings but everything was fresh and delicious! Looking forward to returning for some time at the patio bar soon! (We had an absolute horrendous experience at the last owners previous establishment 2 years ago so this was such a refreshing change! 180 degree difference in service!). Really excited to see this place thrive in such a great town spot! Congrats!

Food was awful. No wine choices! Salad bar is a joke. No sneeze guard over the wilted lettuce. Over powering perfume on the hostess. It left a bad taste as you enter the restaurant. Never will we return.

I had the Blackened Walleye fish it was amazing with a lemon cream sauce , asparagus and sand dollars( small baked potato slices).
You must order an ice cream drink so big and so delicious!! we shared one and glad we did.

The brussels & bacon appetizer is fantastic in flavor and portion. My new favorite. I followed that with the center cut filet medium rare which was done to perfection and exceptionally tender. And despite being "training night" the wait staff and bar tenders were at the top of their game. A definite destination recommendation to all who ask.

Bread sticks were so stale, like a soft pretzel. Walleye is a different version of blackened. Received two different reg whiskey old fashion's. Presentation of food was like it was served from a bar basket, all piled on top of each other. Never received silverware for one of us. Luckily some was available buy the salad bar.
