I love "hole in the wall" restaurants but they are always a risk. We were feeling particularly edgy tonight & decided to go. I am sooo glad we did! First, let's start with the owner. Absolutely, the nicest person. My mom ordered a dish & didn't realize it was going to be spicy. Before it came out (by minutes), she asked & he immediately asked how he could fix it. Of course, it wasn't his fault but he generously offered to make her something else. The food was delicious! You could tell they used quality ingredients. It was authentic & made from scratch. I highly recommend checking this palce out.

Excellent food and their shawarma was the best in town. The lamb kebab was also another one of our favorites, the meat was tender and juicy, served with grilled veggies and rice with so much good flavor. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced, and the owners were super nice. One of the best dining experiences we've had in recent memory and highly recommended!

Truly a one of a kind establishment. Genuine authenticity and care in the food. It’s always nice to stop here on a lazy afternoon and get a nice plate of lovely kosharie! Light on the stomach somehow even though it’s legumes atop pasta and rice. And what a nice gyro! Fresh, crispy veggies on flavorful shaves of meat. Mwah! I love to come here for a snack before hitting Lake Wingra :)

It's a deli and restaurant. I had kosharie (the same menu name as the shop), and it was highlighted in the menu. It's a vegetarian dish. It has noodles, pasta, beans and chick peas. I did not find the taste that great. Also, it would have been nice if seller were more cheerful, which is common in other shops.

Ordered the chicken shwarma, and found to my horror that the chicken was undercooked- some pieces practically looked raw inside. And these are thin pieces of chicken too. Ate most of my shwarma by the time I realized. Would have been decent if the food had been cooked properly.

A friend and I stumbled onto this little restaurant last weekend, and while on the surface it is very unassuming, the food was outstanding! The grilled vegetable wrap was absolutely delicious, full of vegetables cooked perfectly with delicious spices and sauce. The chicken kebab dish was huge, and the grilled chicken was excellent. Both came with fresh salad. Our server – and I assume he was the owner - was super friendly and attentive. I would absolutely recommend this little gem!

I ordered from Kosharie based on a friend's recommendation. My order consisted of the gyro plate, eggplant parmesan hoagie, and tiramisu. The gyro with beef and lamb tasted great and paired perfectly with their Tzatziki sauce. Next I devoured a good portion of the eggplant parmesan hoagie which had a wonderful flavor. Then I finished with the tiramisu. Many places make this dessert too sweet, when in fact it is not necessary. Kosharie hit this one out of the ballpark capturing a delicate balance of all the ingredients.
I look forward to trying out this place again and again. You should also know the food portions were large and I had a lot left over for another meal. Note as well that the restaurant itself is very small and quaint. I ordered my food to go but would have been very happy to have sat there with the simple ambiance of this authentic restaurant.

My girlfriend and I visited the Kosharie for the first time and really enjoyed the food. We took it to go, ordered the pastrami and egg sandwich, as well as the beef shawarma -- both are very good. Staff was kind and helpful. The food came out quickly. And for 2 people, it was very affordable relative to other restaurants in the area. We'll definitely be going back.

Small, cozy place with tasty food. However, I was concerned with the cook (I'm guessing the owner) using his bare hand to prepare food for service. The same food covered hand was used to ring someone up at register...rather gross. The odd thing is that he had a glove on the other hand.
Other than the mild hygiene issue, the food was great.

If you like Mediterranean food...and you haven't been here, you're missing out. There are three orders I can't seem to stay away from.
The Egyptian Kosharie is amazing. Chick peas, pasta, tomato sauce, and fried onions on top of rice and brown lentils. I like mixing it all together. If you like savory spices, this is for you.
The beef shawarma is mouth watering. The pita falls apart, as the sauce soaks up the flavors of the thin luxurious strips of beef layered thick with spinach, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. Think gyro, with a tomato sauce twist and thinner, more tender meat.
As out-of-this-world-fantastic as the previous two dishes are...my personal favorite is the chicken biryani plate. It is a very healthy portion of chicken, rice, vegetables, and sauce.
My wife is not as much of a fan of this style of food as I am....as she's more of a hamburger, tacos, and pizza kind of gal. But if you like the spices, the Mediterranean, and the deliciously exotic. This is your spot. It is most definitely in my top five.

Food was absolutely fantastic! I got the burger and fries. The burger was a very generous 1/4 pounder if not bigger, and it was grilled to perfection. It was juicy and flavorful, all around exactly what a classic cheeseburger should taste like. It came with so many fries that they took up an entire dinner plate. It’s just great food and generous portions at an incredibly reasonable price. Way cheaper than McDonalds and it tastes 100x better. I’m a college kid and this is definitely my new go to!

I also got the falafel and I was BLOWN AWAY with how fresh and delicious they were. I've never had them this delicious before.

We were very excited to try this “New” Mediterranean restaurant in town and today we had the chance to go and dine in. The menu looks very good and the photos in their website made my mouth watering. But, we are very disappointed. The dine-in experience was terrible. The place is dirty looking and not appetizing. A big TV was plying the 6 o’clock news with videos of the killings in Ukraine, alternated by drug advertisements. I asked if they have another channel less violent and they ignore my request.
But we were there for the food, so we ignore the Rusian terror and the readings of drugs side effects on the loud television and ordered food.
Beef Kabob, Egyptian Kosharie, Tabbouleh and Falafel. What can go wrong?
My companion said that the falafel was the best in town, and she knows her falafel. I made the mistake of looking at the supper old oil they were frying the falafel in, and did not have the same opinion.
The kabob came in a bed of rice and over cooked vegetables. Nothing like the wonderful photo on the website. I tasted some eggplant, cauliflower, onions, zucchini and some other undefined flavors. All the vegetables have the same color and taste. The beef was very tender and a bit acid and undercooked for my taste. The inexperience waitress never ask me how I wanted the beef done. The kabob tasted ok but the presentation was not appetizing at all. It looks more like a bad Chinese stir fry.
The Egyptian Kosharie was big because we ordered the dinner portion. It came with a generous portion of crispy caramelice onions, lots of rice and pasta, some lentils, chickpeas and some form of canned tomato sauce in the top. The description in the website sounds very appetizing. The “real” plate is not. It is like a carb bomb.
The tabbouleh was not fresh, very acid and salty. We did not like it.
We were eager to try this place, but very disappointed now. It is like a regular “campus grease spoon” but not cheap. The unappetizing kabob was $19.95.
See for yourself.

Price per person : $10–20
Dine in: Yes
Outdoor seating: No
Takeout: Yes
Curbside pickup: Yes
Personal favorite: Beef Shawarma, Tiramisu
As a huge fan of Mediterranean cuisine, I have to say this one is the best in Madison.
For me, the most attractive feature is authenticity. In the first visit, I noticed that the meal tasted slightly different with other restaurants (I have tried 30 plus Mediterranean restaurants). The meat is juicy and fresh. Vege tasted like home-cooked one. Later, I learnt from the owner (who is also the chief) that he moved from Egypt 30 years ago and founded his first restaurant in New York.
Also, the price of the food is affordable, my personal favorite is beef Shawarma with the price less than $8. If you're hungry, try lamb biryani/kabobs. If you had all of them, maybe Egyptian Kosharie is a good choice. Lastly, don't forget to try the ice cream and home-made Tiramisu!

My friend ordered a gyros and I ordered the beef shawarma. The gyros was fine but the shawarma had what appeared to be red chili peppers in it. Unexpected and too hot for my taste. But the most disappointing items were the chocolate chip cookies. They appeared to be made with vegetable oil and they smelled and tasted disagreeably greasy.

First off, I gotta say that was some of the best Shawarma I've ever had. It was so so so so good. Fries were very good good too. Now it could be my American Palate, so I don't want to be too negative here, but the falafel was really bad. I hate to say it because the Schwarma was absolutely amazing. I don't know if it went soggy from being delivered, or again maybe it's me being used to Naf Naf and Med-Hookah on State. Not sure where else I've had falafel, but this one was a let down. I introduced someone to mediterranean food and feel really bad that the falafel wasn't up to par. Again, Shawarma was impeccable, and I am excited to explore more of the menu at Kosharie, but unfortunately I will stay away from the Falafel. That's the only thing holding me back from 4 maybe even 5 stars. Aiming to give you guys another shot sometime. Thank you!

I appreciated how quickly we were served and how inexpensive the huge servings were. The restaurant was small but efficient. Unfortunaly, I was disappointed with the koshari. It wasn't very flavorful and I thought the use of spaghetti was weird (previously, I've had it with macaroni). I may go back to try their falafel, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Very small establishment but the food is very authentic and extremely delicious. The hand made tirmasu and baklava we're fantastic as well. Everything is made to order as well.

Salad was soggy iceberg lettuce like it sat around in dressing all afternoon. The chicken on it was good, so I suspect their meat and non-lettuce-meals are good.

I Used EatsStreet to order the namesake Kosharie and a Philly Cheesesteak for lunch. Food was excellent and for a great price. Cant wait to check out more of the menu items!

I'm a new student in Madison and I was looking for halal food. I found this place super close to my department that sold halal food and it was very highly rated. I totally agree with the ratings. Really good food, good quantity and nice greetings from the owners (they served free naan and salads as appetizers, which would cost good money in Aldo!). A pleasant Egyptian family runs the business. Cons are: there is no AC and sometimes you may see one or two flies coming from outside. But I don't mind that given the nature of the shop. It's not a full scale restaurant. There are only three tables (8 people can sit there at a time). It's more of an authentic experience of authentic Egyptian/Arabic food. Already visited two times in a row and I see myself going there almost everyday (or at least every week for sure).

I am vegetarian. It’s difficult to find restaurants that serve delicious vegetarian dish. I ordered Egyptian kosharie, falafel with tahini sauce, and pita. I really liked falafel, sauce and pita. I would recommend it.

Kosharie is a fantastic little spot for Mediterranean cuisine. The owners are kind and the food is great, especially for the low prices. The interior is simple and unadorned-- further evidence that the food is the figure if merit.

Great food—the kebabs were made to order, perfectly cooked, and came in very generous portions—almost enough enough to serve two. And the tiramisu was delicious! Definitely a good place when I’m too lazy to cook dinner.

I got the lamb kabobs and there was so much food! For $16 I got about 8-10oz of lamb, a couple couple cups of cooked rice, about 8 oz. of sauteed veggies, a large pita, and 2 cups of cucumber/tomato salad. Food was ready when I got there and still hot 20 minutes later when I got home. This is more than enough for 2 VERY hungry people.
The older couple (I assume the owners) were very nice.
Will definitely go to Kosharie again!

Got the falafel wrap and the kosharie plate. Falafel wasn’t very good, super dense and tasted like it was cooked in old fry oil. Kosharie was good, the onions were a great touch, but overall it was kinda just a pile of noodles, rice, and beans with a basic red sauce. Maybe it’s a lunch place.
