We got a burger, a chicken sandwich, cheese curds, dumpling soup and chilli. Everything was way over salted. I like more salt than most people, so if it was salty to me, then it was very salty. However, the chilli needed more salt. It was very flat tasting. Also, they left the lettuce off my chicken sandwich, which supposedly automatically comes on it, according to their menu. This was $56 dollars of food, most of which we could not eat. Very disappoined!

Used to be so good- consistently. Now it is hit or miss. Overpriced, especially sides. Portion sizes are inconsistent. When it's good- it's great. When not- so bad. This last time will more than likely be THE last time. Bland burgers. Soggy seaburgers that were flavorless. Burnt mushrooms that weren't fully battered and a much smaller size than a family $8 side (we've ordered small orders bigger and better before) should be. Mushy noodles in the chili that disintegrated. The only good part of our meal was the fries, and the small sized fries were way bigger than a family sized mushrooms and didn't taste like old, burnt oil like the mushrooms and seaburgers. It's a shame. This place is iconic to all that makes the east side a hidden gem. Unfortunately, they are not living up to their legacy lately.

What really disappointed me about my experience at this location was how they handle paying for your bill. As soon as all of my food came out, the server dropped my bill on the table. Which was fine at first. Then he just stood there until he told me he was waiting for me to hand over the payment for my bill. This has NEVER been an experience I have encountered at any reputable sit down establishment I have eaten at. But I thought, "Okay, I am not a regular and maybe they have issues with dine and dashers." So I gave him my card. Took a couple bites of my food as he processed my card. He comes back and places my receipt on the table. He then continues to stand at my table creating more awkwardness until I realize he is waiting for me to finalize the receipt with the tip info. I asked him if I could do it later after I finished my meal. He said "No, THEY make us do it this way." Which is a joke, because my card info is already in their hands. Not like I am dine and dashing at that point. This also forces me to make a determination on the tip amount while the waiter is standing over my shoulder half way through my dining experience. Reputable restaurants, wouldn't force a customer to make this decision at this point of their meal. So I tipped the standard 20% at that point, while also fearing that I would not see any server again if I needed a refill of my soda or any other service. Wouldn't you know it? Not one server came anywhere near my table afterwards.

So if you find yourself eating here in this situation, I would advise having some cash in your pocket. When they force you to finalize the bill, make sure you put a big old zero on the tip line. Then tell your server that you will be tipping in cash. So they may want to check in soon.

Visited this place on vacation and there were a few of us who stopped in. 2 people ordered the fish and chips. The fish was frozen and no chips came with the meal. A prime rib sandwich was ordered and that's all you got. 2 chicken tenders were ordered and they looked hard as a rock. The shrimp also looked frozen. The waitress brought the separated bills to the table, but stood there and waited for us to give her a form of payment even though we had just gotten our food. She then stood over who was signing the receipt as they were filling it out. I would try another place. I really wanted this place to be good.

Been coming here for decades so I used to rate it high maybe for nostalgia but the last several visits since covid were all pretty bad. Burgers taste like dense frozen patties, prices keep going up, ingredients keep getting worse.
I always looked forward to the motz sticks the most but yesterday they were not as good, appeared to be from different supplier and the marinera sauce I liked so much changed and was awful, not smooth like usual but like chunky sour pizza sauce.
Waiters are all young kids now that either act like they don't know anything or don't have a clue. I never see the super grumpy old owner in the kitchen like I always used to. Maybe he kept things running smoother.
I got used to waiters asking for payment when food comes out but always hate that they do that (I bet no other restaurant does that), then hover over you as you write the tip for service they haven't provided much of at that point.
Diner counter never reopened after covid.
I sounds like ranting but honestly just more disappointment than anything. Used to always look forward to eating there on way through GB but don't think I'll go back. And I always thought west location had worse tasting food. Maybe they are better in comparison now.

I think this place has survived on Nostalgia alone because the food was not good. Frozen burger patty, small portions, and dingy atmosphere. The prime rib sandwich was flavorless and small. The bun was dry and the cheese curds were rubbery. We love Krolls West and thought it would be the same experience at the East location. NOT! 2pm on a Friday afternoon... The server was pleasant enough, but she waited on a group of three that came in right behind us. She then took our order for my wife and I. The group of three got their food and we're gone in about 20 minutes. We were still waiting another 15 minutes for a total of a little over a half an hour for two burgers, two fries and a drink. There were only about six people in the whole place. Even though the cheese on the burger melted, the edges were stale and hardened. The waitress never came over once to ask us if we'd like another drink or to let us know why our order was taking so long. As we were walking out another server was coming with our food, so we decided to stay. She immediately asked us if we were going to order anything else and if not we needed to pay now. We just got done waiting 35 minutes for our food, we're very hungry and now we have to pay before we eat? I don't think I've ever been asked to pay for my meal as soon as they deliver it? I might have wanted dessert or another drink but sometimes you don't know that till you're finished eating so I thought it was very unorthodox and rude. My wife and I have never not left a tip but that changed today. I'll go back to Krolls West, but never the East location.

The butter-burger was tiny and so cold the butter was still in its square patty shape. The server recommended the onion rings, which were just so-so. Even the chili was off today. TONS of beans, lukewarm, and didnt taste the way I'm used to it. The chocolate shake was worth the trip, though. I will be back, as I refuse to judge them just by this one bad experience. Wisconsin friends recommended this place, the dinner there was terrible. We sat in the very dirty bar part of the restaurant (the floor was strewn with food remnants) and after ordering chili and burgers got a very greasy bowl that tasted of little else than ground meat. The burger had the cold slice of cheese stuck to the top. Items were plopped on the table (no plates) and immediate payment was demanded (fine with us, since we could not wait to leave).
Kroll's might be one of those places kept afloat by a long-ago earned reputation and now complacently doesn't care anymore.

Good morning, I have to tell you that we were in your East location last night and it was not an enjoyable experience at all. The bar might have been half full and there were only two people serving and the one girl was running so ragged that she didn't hardly have time to serve us. We've experienced this once before in your establishment and we probably will not be coming back. That does not make for a relaxing atmosphere for our night out. We always look forward to getting to your East location for a very good hamburger and a relaxing old fashioned at the bar. If you're not a regular, don't go here! We were the only people in the place that did not have our food served on a plate. It came wrapped in paper straight to the table. We never saw our waitress again, so we never got refills on our drinks. The buns were so dry they crumbled, and the grease was dripping from the burgers. We were told a large fry was big enough for our family, only to get an order that was in a small paper serving boat (mote like the size of a small from a fast sood place). Their 1/4 lbs burgers were the size of a regular burger from McDonald's. It was also a bit strange that we had to pay at the table as soon as our food came out. On a positive note, the dumpling soup was very good. $66.31 for 3 burgers, 3 sodas, 3 cups of soup, and 1 order of fries is a bit much even in this day and age. I doubt we'll be back!

Went there because we were in the area and wife said she heard it was good and we should go. Some weeks ago we made arrangements to meet friends for “fish fry” at Kroll’s East, they coming from Crivitz, we on our way from Youngstown OH to Minocqua. As former Wisconsin residents we know great fish fry and what we got was closer to store bought fish sticks; our 4 Fish & Chips entrées were a disappointment, and the “crowning touch” was asking for the bill being paid as soon as the final entree had been delivered, at which point our server disappeared. One of our party wanted a drink refill and finally had to go to the bar and get it for themselves. And I had given a 20% tip when paying the bill! Kroll’s East - NEVER AGAIN!!

Never again! Rude staff! Waitress asked if we were ready to order, asked for a blueberry shake and said we should be ready when she came back, her reply was “ I won’t be back, someone else will be!” And continued to wait on other tables. Like we inconvenienced her by being there. Took about 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, then answered our questions like we were stupid. Took about another 30 minutes to get our food which we had to pay for when we got our food! That was the last time anyone came to our table and food was not even that great! The only pleasant staff member who was nice was the blond teenager who brought our food! Krolls West is where we will continue to go, their staff know how to to treat customers!

As I’m waiting for door dash watch the older lady with blonde hair just walk and look right pass me she then goes to a car that just pulled up I rolled my window Down and said I have been waiting for you to attend me as well she looked at me and rolled her eyes and continue to help the car that just pulled up mind u been parked there before her for 15mins

Service was terrible but they were packed. Two bartenders for the whole place and one was on his first day. Took forever and both of our burgers had the wrong toppings on them. Waitress was dumbfounded by that and couldn't figure out how to fix things. Really?? At least the chili was good. No need to return.

Been so long since last time having dinner here. The food was as fantastic as I remember. Phenomenal Cheeseburger and chili. When Kroll's east does come up in conversations people always say food is great there.

They have Spotted Cow on Draft! I have time come to Wisconsin for this as I live in Pennsylvania! Old scroll charm of a 70s pub mixed with multiple screens of sports makes the restaurant a great affordable stop on Saturdays for college football action.
