My son recently went, and the server took his debit card to pay. Minutes later, he got an overdraft alert—two $125+ charges from “Crunchy Roll,” an anime company. It took almost 3 weeks for the bank to return his money. If we ever go back, my credit card will never leave my hand. BEWARE!

Horrible!!!!! I ordered pick up volcano maki, lobster cigars and edamame. I used to order food from Kyoto all the time multiple times a month sometimes. Food used to be great. I order for my boyfriend and I 8.21.25 at 5:10pm hadn’t eaten all day.picked up around 5:35. Receipt 5:55 pick up. At approximately 12am on 8.22.25 am we both were violently sick, nausea and vomiting . I didn’t have any raw food everything I ate was cooked but I did have rice. This restaurant was the common factor of both of our illnesses. I called Kyoto the lady said she would get a manager. Manager calls me back and is just rude I provided proof of purchase and he was talking over me nagging back and forth. I then asked how can we come to an agreement I love coming here. I was sick from your restaurant can I get a refund on my order. He told me to go to the hospital and show proof it from his restaurant. I will not support a place that doesn’t take proper precautions and accountability. Such a shame because I actually loved this restaurant.

Kyoto is in a little strip mall on Layton Avenue, just east of 76th Street. The interior was not at all as I expected, and was pleasantly surprised by the space. The décor and coloring are very calming, nothing over-the-top, yet has a cultural feel.

The employees are all so friendly. Everyone makes eye contact as they pass, has a smile, and says hello. Our server was professional, courteous, and very attentive. When he came to ask we wanted/need refills or additional items, he was polite and did not interrupt conversations. He waited until he was noticed and acknowledged by whomever he was closest to before asking if we needed anything. It was refreshing actually.

The food was delicious - but I don't do sushi. We were a party of seven. Five had various Sushi selections, one had the Combo Tempura, one added the Seaweed Salad, and I had the Teriyaki Beef and the Shrimp Dumplings. Everyone really enjoyed their sushi, with of my friends saying this was her favorite place to have sushi. I tasted the seaweed salad and the tempura chicken. The salad was not for me. It wasn't bad, but the texture is too weird for me. I have a thing about food textures. The chicken was really dry. Was it overcooked, or was it on her plate too long before she offered it up for tasting. I don't know. The flavor was good though. I wasn't expecting the dumplings to be like they were, but then I had never had Japanese dumplings before. They were little, and sticky. Very interesting. Very good. The teriyaki beef was amazing. The sauce wasn't overly sweet like a lot of places, and the beef was SO tender. The presentation was just beautiful. Because of the soup, salad, and appetizer I did end up taking about half my entrée home. Looking to lunch tomorrow!

I got the Lobster Lover Roll for take out and originally had an issue with my order. Kyoto reached out and not only rectified the situation, but also explained what occurred so I could have peace of mind. As a regular customer of Kyoto, we were STRONLY DISAPPOINTED to discover they added forced tipping to their menu. We only had 4 adults at our table, and a 4 year old child, who just shared a plate since she doesn't eat much. What made us suspicious when we were seated, we requested a booth and they put us at a table. Then it took about 10-15 minutes before someone took our order, my tea was refilled only once, and that took quite awhile. It has always been our experience when tips are automatically charged, customers get screwed. This is what happened this evening. We don't normally patronize places that surcharge, nickel and dime, their guests with forced tipping, service charges or fees for using a credit card. This is the end of a long term dining experience.

Every server we have had since coming to Kyoto has always been extremely kind, attentive, and goes above and beyond. don’t order to go. ordered a combo with a shrimp, eel, and california roll and instead of the eel roll i was given a second california rolls. the sushi was loose and falling apart and just wasn’t very good. also the kani salad it just nasty and 99% lettuce (maybe that’s their way but i’ve never seen this before🤷‍♀️). needless to say disappointed and would’ve honestly rather had just gotten grocery store sushi at that point.

Kyoto's food is always consistent, tastes fresh, and priced well. The staff is always so nice and very knowledgeable about celiac. I took my son (14), and he ordered a specific roll. Plenty of parking. Immediate seating. The server took our order and returned with the salad and very hot and very delicious Miso soup. Our box dinners were served before I could finish my soup. The dinners included 4 pieces of crab sushi, a shrimp tempura, a spring roll, white sticky rice, 3 pot stickers, and the entrée. I ordered orange chicken. It was filling and delicious. The chicken was sliced in strips with a crispy coating and served in a sweet, orange sauce. There was too much to eat and plenty to take home. As a special treat, we finished with mochi - delicate sticky coating (pounded sticky rice) with, in this case, mango ice cream.

Even though most tables were full, and carry-out service was bustling, we had fantastic service.

Definitely deserves a return visit.

I wish the hibachi entertainers were consistent. Our person started off with a spatula show, and we thought we were really going to be entertained. However, after that, there was a flame and a choo-choo train with onions and that was it. The table next to us got a show all the way through With sake and tricks and fun so we felt a little lackluster. I did try sake jelly for the first time and it was totally amazing. I got the peach so I’ll give that drink a five star and three star atmosphere and our server seems to not know anything which is sad because I had a few questions and everything was answered by “I don’t know” I eventually got so tired of that. I asked her to ask the questions of the Chef and , the bar, so I don’t think she was new. She did not mention it. It just felt like maybe she was not interested in going the extra mile to help us. I enjoyed my noodles. However the steak was very tough and not tender at all. I should’ve paid the extra six dollars for the filet mignon. Shrimp

Excellent food. We ordered vegetable egg rolls, crab rangoon, Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp, pad thai, shrimp fried rice, and hot & sour soup. Every dish was excellent. We love Asian food and both cook it at home and dine out for it.

Portions were generous. This was a pickup order. Each dish was packaged well. Plenty of utensils and napkins provided. Order was ready at time requested. When picking up the order, the inside was spacious and comfortable looking. Staff was very courteous. We definitely will go back to dine in the restaurant. We had tried almost every Asian restaurant in the neighborhood. Kyoto, by far exceeds each of them.

The only negative aspect of the encounter was lousy online ordering service. They give you an option at checkout to specify a pickup time. However, when you finalize the order, you are told that the order will be ready in 30 minutes. Very confusing. When you call the telephone number on their website during hours that the restaurant is open, you are sent to a call center service with staff that has no interest in collecting any info about you other than your telephone number. They tell you their manager will call you back. Also, their website generates a lot of unsafe virus protection warnings when trying to check your order via links in the highly info-lacking email receipt that they send you.

Kyoto is well worth dining at.

I've never experienced this before at a restaurant, ever.
Me and my friends decided to split the check paid for our orders. I gave $30.00 when the total was $23.30 and told the waitress to keep the change as a tip. Just when we were about to leave, however, the waitress ran up to us with teary eyes asked us, in front of the entire restaurant, "Did I do something wrong? How come the tip is so low? Why isn't it higher? Was my service not good enough? You know I only earn money from tips, right?" and just kept going on and on until we finally gave her more in tips. At first, we gave her another $5.00 to make the tip total to be $12.00. She looked at the $5.00, proceeded to sigh, and say, "I feel so sad right now." My friends and I felt guilty, and decided on giving her an additional $20.00 in tips for a total of $27.00 in tips. Mind you, all the waitress did was take our order, give us our food, and refill drinks based on procedure. She didn't even take the plates we were done with, she made no small talk with us, nothing of the sort to show that she deserved such a high tip. We just left immediately without complaining because of all the commotion she was causing.
We were just a party of 4, didn't even order many dishes--one drink, one meal per person, and one appetizer--and at most only ate for an hour.
This is absolutely insane. Like I said, I've never experienced ANYTHING like this before. I will never be coming back, thank you.
