On top of the food tasting like plastic, the entrees don’t come with anything else but the mentioned item and it’s laughably expensive. Service was decent and the only thing great about the place was the atmosphere. Would never come again..

La Brioche is just as busy as Marigold Kitchen, despite not close to the square and having much more ample seating.
The quality of the food is consistent. Everything from the pastries and the coffee to the breakfast tacos and made-to-order egg scrambles are top notch every time. Very reasonably priced, which is why this place is so busy.
You have to get used to the service not being great. Long waits to get orders taken, few check-ups, takes forever to get your check, etc.
La Brioche is a solid brunch for a lazy Sunday and the food will not disappoint. However, if you are in a rush or nit-picky about expedient service, this likely isn’t the place for you. And this place is never quiet. You can have a pleasant conversation but quiet is never a good adjective to describe the atmosphere.

My husband and I stopped in for Sunday brunch to celebrate our anniversary and it did not disappoint! We started with coffee and an orange rosemary scone that struck the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It was absolutely delicious.
For breakfast, we had the red pepper and avocado omelet and the veggie skillet. Both dishes were fresh, well-seasoned, and portioned just right.
The atmosphere was relaxed, the server was friendly, the food was wonderful, and it all came together to make a really enjoyable brunch. This place is a gem!

Yikes! I’ve been to La Brioche several times and this was by far the worst service I’ve ever had. We were sat fairly quickly, but no server came to our table for at least 15 to 20 minutes. When she finally did come, she didn’t bring a water pitcher or come back to fill my water. There was times my water needed to be filled while we were actually eating, but it did not get filled. We were sat in the back corner very close to other tables, if it had been easier, I would’ve gone up and said something so we could get service to our table. I shouldn’t have to go through maze even get anyone’s attention. The server only came back and checked on us once the entire hour and a half that we were there, and we spent most of that time waiting and not getting any service. Lastly, when I asked for a box, she brought one after another 15 minute wait, but did not ask if we wanted our check. We waited another 20 minutes, and finally had to go up to the front to get our check. I used to be a server so I try to be understanding, I am generally chill, but this was really terrible. The icing on the cake was the person at the front when we asked to get our check, they asked where we sat and asked who we had. The server didn’t even tell us their name so we had no idea. We were giving as much info as we could, and she said “well that doesn’t really help” Excuse me we shouldn’t even have to come up to the front to get our. Incredibly rude and terrible service. I also found a piece of plastic in my food. Yuck. All in all, I think that a few people at La Brioche need to be retrained on customer service.

Our visit was a total disappointment. 3 items on kids menu: grilled cheese, PB and J, and scrambled eggs. Really? Food was absolutely below mediocre. All the greens were clearly old. Wilted with frayed edges. The Buddha bowl was half full and the absolute blandest such dish I have ever eaten, with Scattered pieces of sweet potato, avocado and beets. Dressing was blah. The veggie sandwich had a weird lemony flavor that was unappealing. The tomato soup was the only good item. Service was SLOW!!! Finally, the waitstaff brought us another table’s check. So many better choices abound. AVOID!!

Treated very rudely by wait staff. Walked in and waited five minutes (in a near-empty restaurant) for someone to serve me. Ordered a dessert, intending to sit and enjoy it, but was served a to-go box (without being asked) and was treated like I was an alien from another planet when I asked if I could sit at a table to eat it…quality and friendliness of this place has gone waaaay way down

My breakfast companion had a biscuit with gravy which featured ample sausage in the gravy; he thought there should've been a second biscuit but really enjoyed the food’s flavor.
I had a roasted red pepper and avocado omelette which was good; its accompanying salad was fine but the dressing was too sweet. Excellent chewy hunk of bread and plenty of butter with it.
Got a brioche to go—although it’s the restaurant’s namesake, it was by far the worst food we got at La Brioche—the eggs, butter and sugar were seemingly omitted—the resulting single brioche (in an inelegant cupcake paper) was dry, tasteless and unpleasant to try to eat.

Overall nice environment. Lovely hostess and waitress. Had breakfast there this AM, a croissant with egg and it is served with a side salad. Unfortunately the salad had a significant amount of soggy, mushy lettuce and was inedible! I lost my appetite and would most likely not eat there again. Too bad!

I will never eat here again. Food was okay, service was terrible. Came in , stood for a good 2 and half minutes before being acknowledged. We were given lunch menus, then after finding nothing great our waitress asked if we wanted dinner menus since dinner started in a few minutes. There was basically 5 new items, and priced went up 30%. My drink was very vinegar-y and I had 1 sip. After asking for all the food at once we were given the appetizers first. Service was slow. After our server noticed my displeasure she came to apologize, then I heard her talking to her coworkers about our table. They stopped after I made a comment to my table about it. We took the pizza to go to get the hell out of that disgrace of a restaurant.

Ordered the meat eggs benedict, what a huge disappointment! Their "Benedict" was a giant croissant with one tiny peice of meat for both halves and three undercooked asparagus. Eggs were very hard, no runny yokes, bare minimum effort from the restaurant, Just overall bad. I will definitely not ever be coming back and would suggest that if you are looking for a good eggs benedict, go somewhere else. This is definitely not the place.

My first and last visit here. The person behind the counter was cold and unpleasant. After she served the person in front of me, she asked “Do you want something?” I restrained myself from the desire to respond, “why yes, that’s why I’m standing here“, but simply asked if they had dark roast coffee I could get to go in my travel mug. She glowered and said yes. (The coffee, as it turns out, is not dark roast, but at least it is coffee) I worked food and beverage long enough to honor the sanctity of tipping. Even the $1.25 I left as change from the fiver only merited a glare.

I am Italian and I can tell you that so far La Brioche is the best restaurant in Madison! Food is really great, the atmosphere amazing and the place inside super cozy and cute. It's really an amazing surprise! Their salads are spectacular, organic and so tasty! Their salmon, beef bourguignon, and bread are also fantastic! I also recommend to have one of their teas, not only they are so good but they serve them in those super cute porcelains that make you fele you are in Europe. Price Is slightly higher than other places, but it's totally worthy. Service is super nice too!

We came here on a Sunday at 11:30. We had a group of 8 and knew that there would be a wait, which we were fine with. Upon arrival at 11:25 we were told that it would be an hour wait. Creeping up on 45 minutes, one of us went to the hostess to ask if she was thinking it would be any longer than an hour. Her response was that we walked in at 11:27 and it was only 12:12 so we needed to give them 20 more minutes. After watching multiple parties be sat (and no not just parties of 2) we went back to the hostess to press a bit more since it was now officially an hour of waiting. After that interaction the hostess proceeded to sit at the stand and openly talk about one of our party to her coworker. Now we bypassed the hostess and went to the counter to get more information on being seated. I dont know if he was a manager or not but he told us that we would be seated within 2 minutes, they were just "moving tables", even though the reason we were told it was such a long wait is because they were waiting for a booth (which we never specified we wanted)?? Then the same hostess who no longer would even look our direction counted out the 8 menus and proceeded to put them on the counter and left them instead of calling us to be seated. Finally the male worker came around again and saw we were still waiting, took the menus and had us seated. There were multiple tables open and our table we were waiting so long on was just a 4 person and 2 person table pushed together with chairs added.... We didn't touch a piece of food until about 1:30. The food is always good here and it didn't disappoint but the price is slightly outrageous and also being forced to tip 20% after the whole debacle was just the last straw for all of us.

Excellent food and service. I was surprised at the large serving of salmon we were served for about $16. The salmon was served over roasted vegetables and came with a side salad. The desserts were also huge and very good. The sole exception was the chocolate intensity cake, which was described as having ganache that I couldn't see or taste, and I wouldn'tdescribethe chocolatetasteas intense either. Compared to the cream puffs, it was small and also dry on both sides, as though it had been cut and then exposed to air for too long. Perhaps it was just a bad chocolate cake day, but either way, the rest of the food, and the coffee were all excellent, as was the service. Definitely recommend.

Loved the outdoor seating on the west patio with the water feature. Although the weather was steamy the breeze made the experience memorable. The lunch sized strawberry salad with chicken was outstanding and filling even for a big guy like me. My wife enjoyed the potato leek soup. She said that the consistency and heat (she likes her soups hot) was excellent. Her roast beef on Ciabatta was great but she noted that the bread was a bit dry. She thought it would have been better with a light dressing on the bread or on the side. The warmed bread pudding dessert was to die for and the morning bun was tasty. Well worth the stop. The service was excellent as always.

We’ve had brunch at La Brioche for years now. The management may have changed, the outdoor patio was remodeled but the food, the European atmosphere and the service remains the same. The three of us always have eggs Benedict on croissant, chilaquiles, parfait, coffee and vanilla latte with two shots of expresso. On weekends there may be a wait. However, there’s sitting available in nice carpeted waiting areas outdoors and indoors. Love the well maintained surrounding gardens.

Been coming here for years when in town.
The atmosphere, especially in the back part of the interior, has an elegant feel to it. The front part and outside are also nice.
Food is great. Their potatoes, pouridge, and omelets are all especially good. Hard to not splurge and get dessert. Got the croissant bread pudding most recently and it was excellent.
Service can be hit or miss depending on your server. Our last server (Emeralda, I believe) would disappear for long stretches of time but previous servers were very attentive.
Overall, I definitely plan to return.

Food was horrible everything was horrible. overpriced too for what it is. Their sandwiches sucked. Their soup tasted like water and didn’t have anything that it said it’s supposed to have in it. Omelette wasn’t an omelette. It was a flat scrabbled egg with uncooked veggies on top. Nothing was cooked in the egg. Everything tasted bad and the service was not good either. Definitely don’t go here. Bassett street brunch club is indefinitely better than this. I would never spend my money here again. Go to basset street brunch club if you want actually good tasting food.

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you to the La Brioche staff who comped my kids & husband some extra blue moon cookies tonight when they came in looking to buy a baguette. They were thrilled with their cookies (and baguettes!) and now can’t wait to come back for dinner sometime :-)
They were actually eating their ice cream at one of your outside tables and saw the bakery inside and came in looking for something tasty bread and also my son needed to use the bathroom. No one gave them any trouble about using one of La Brioche’s outdoor tables (or coming in to use your washroom) which was especially lovely because they actually had given up their table at Dairy Queen to an older couple who plainly had limited mobility, but I’m sure the La Brioche staff didn’t know that and was just nice to them anyway.
Mostly I just wanted to say thank you for the simple kindnesses :-) we will definitely be back, but more importantly we are all inspired to pay it forward to someone else. Thanks again!

To start, I will go back to see if they are able to bring up this score. We sat outside and it was a beautiful area! We walked past the bakery section that was fantastic to look at and I enjoyed the morning roll. My wife had the berry salad and it was beatiful. She said she would order it again. I had the French Dip and it was not. The roll was had a crust that cut my gums. The dip was too salty and not savory. Service by the waitress was terrible. If it was not for other staff coming to help us we would have not gotten our food and our drinks finally came after are food was half eaten. I ordered the cold green mint tea and sent it back as it did not taste like green tea or mint. I just had luke warm water with no ice. Not sure why they serve it that way. This seems like a nice place and I hope it is much better the next time I go.

Went there at 2 pm today and it took awhile for our drinks and even longer for our order to be taken. We ordered grilled cheese, burger, and French dip. Took 1/2 hr. When I inquired about the wait they said it was due to the burger. Seriously, burgers don’t take that long. Food was pricey and nothing special and service was terrible.

I called to ask about a cheesecake today around 2:05pm. The person that answered the phone was super rude and hung up on me. She seemed like she was bothered to even answer the phone. I called a second time then she again answered the phone. I asked her why she hung up the phone and asked for her name and she said “because we do not sell cheesecakes”, then I asked if this is what you do to all your customers when they ask you a question? I asked to talk to the manager to complain about her service. She said she was the manager and she didn’t feel comfortable giving me her name. We are actually good customers and most of my family goes there since it has really good food but after today we will never return.

Came here for breakfast with a few friends.
I ordered the breakfast tacos, which were very good. They do drizzle a little bit of spicy salsa on top- so be mindful if you don’t like spice. Personally it was the perfect amount of spice for me.
I also got an order of the French toast with the berries and crème anglaise. Soooo good!
I will be back. So tasty and the staff was very friendly and attentive!

I only bought baguette, croissant and brioche to go. Very poor quality of baked goods, much inferior to the real “French” standard . Would not recommend this place for French baked goods.

This is the restaurant that revealed to me what the big deal is about perfectly made hollandaise sauce ("Béarnaise.") Never in my life have I had a better presentation of eggs benedict, complete with perfectly cooked asparagus. Beware! If you order eggs benedict here, it will spoil you forever to other offerings. If you are really fortunate, Irene will be your server. She will take care of you down to the last small detail.

Lovely place, food was good. Loved their idea of bread pudding using croissants. Very smart. We were there at lunchtime. I wish they had some way of absorbing the sound of clanging dishes. The ambiance would be better if it wasn't so noisy.

A quick client lunch, sandwiches were fresh, served with a healthy side salad. Service was great, especially for how packed it was.

Although the atmosphere and service were very appealing, the food was slightly average at best. The salmon dish was very disappointing and the burger was dry and tasteless. Perhaps we didn't order the right items off their menu, but both dishes were not worth the premium dollars we spent.

Cozy atmosphere! Food was good. We got eggs Benedict and an omelette. I give a 5 on presentation and 4 on taste (except the bread and butter were 5 stars) parking is near impossible on Saturdays at 10 am.

Wonderful little place. While the building was full the entire time we were dining, it never felt overcrowded or loud. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Our server was timely, friendly and professional.
Definitely check out their baked goods by the entrance. I'm eating one of their cookies now, and it's about as close to perfect as you can get.
Will be going back when I come back to town.

Amazing, kind staff. We came in close to an early closure due to snow, and they still seated us per usual, even offering extra pastries as they were closing. The atmosphere was good as always, and the service was prompt.

Cute restaurant! Very cozy, reminded me of an adult tea party and the food was excellent. My family is not from Madison, but when my aunt was diagnosed with cancer there would be frequent trips there for medical appointments. After every appointment my mother and aunt would eat here. This was their spot! Unfortunately my aunt recently passed, and my mother is having a difficult time. Last week I had an appointment and my mother accompanied me, afterwards I got the privilege to have lunch with my mother at "their spot". It was a great experience and I plan on making this a stop after all future appointments when I'm in the Madison area!

Wow! We got 2 baguettes to go but our breakfast was insanely good. I got the special which was poached eggs in a parmesan truffle cream sauce with mushrooms & asparagus. My friend got the berry crepes. It was an astounding breakfast. I cleaned the plate and loved the side salad...truly French after the meal. Gorgeous food that shows love!

My server never came by once to ask how it was, except to bring the check when I was done eating.
Weird decor, too :(-

Food was good but not great, the portion were a little small for the price. Two eggs were nine dollars.
