On a Saturday evening we placed a dinner order for Chicken and Mixed Vegetables for pickup. We went to pick it up. I even left a tip. Well, when we got home all that was in the bag was the Chicken and Mixed vegetables and no rice !! I called right away on the phone and she was oh so apologetic, she handed phone to some guy there who also seemed to know the rice was not in the bag. Their solution was for us to come get the rice! ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME. I can understand making a mistake on a complicated order where maybe several items are ordered. We ordered ONE THING. And then when we get there she says "I am so sorry." not even offering a can of soda, an eggroll, coupon for a few dollars off future meal . . . nothing! I mean how do you screw up ONE order? I should have asked for my tip back. DO NOT LEAVE A TIP AT THIS PLACE WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING. Of course by time we got home the chicken and vegetables was COLD so obviously the taste was not so good (there was also a lot of oil but I guess that is typical for Chinese food). Mistakes happen, but their behavior is what spoke volumes and not their words. They lost my future business.

We had our food nice and hot packed nicely. The portions were generous. Everything was flavorful and tasty! It will be our new place to get Chinese food. We had 5. Crab Rangoon (8), 4. Chinese Donut (10), 56. Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts, 95. Sweet and Sour Chicken, shrimp lobster sauce, 68. Beef with Mushrooms, for 7 adults. Plenty of food!!

Just follow the reviews! Living in McFarland - our go to was always Main Moon. But, I could not resist trying this place out, mostly because of the reviews!
Great customer experience ordering on- line, super easy.
Food was waiting for me when I walked into the restaurant!
Food was hot, not greasy- EGG Rolls were super good. General Tsoa Chicken was spicy (Ordered the Normal), Generous portions.
Not that out of the way from McFarland - will definitely order from here again!

I have been to La Choza twice now for lunch and it was wonderful both times. I took the items to go and both times the food was piping hot when I got back to work. First time I had the Orange Chicken lunch with crab rangoon. The second was General Tsos chicken lunch with crab rangoon. Similar dish but the orange is sweeter and the general tsos was spicier. I will continue to go back and try items as they are friendly and the food was consistently good.

This is a delicious Chinese restaurant in Monona. I'm a frequent visitor and I really enjoy the General Tso's chicken with fried rice, chef Evelio Castillo does such a good job with his menu and he is amazing at satisfying his customers, including me. If you're in Monona and want to have some Chinese food, you should totally consider coming to La Choza Del Viejo.

I recommend getting the wonton soup however I've been disappointed on several dishes and I've really tried my best to give them as many shots as possible but this is the last time for a while at least unless I'm getting wonton soup. My general tso is like almost microwave tasting and the chicken and broccoli last time was very sparse. Trust me though you'll like the wonton soup

It really is the best. Veggie spring roll is hand rolled. The fried rice has that brown tint. The broccoli had that wok char flavor. The delivery packing was so thoughtful too. Another Monona Drive gem.

Ordered some egg rolls, as well as sesame chicken with fried rice. I wasn't impressed with the flavors nor the seemingly smaller portion size on the entree. The eggs rolls were okay. The place was busy but they had my order ready very quickly so bonus on efficiency. The front staff was nice so service was great but not a fan of the food. Sorry La Choza, I won't be back.

We ordered Chicken Lo Mein, Moo Shu Pork and Sweet and Sour Chicken. We also had one Vegetable Spring roll and two crab Rangoon. All of the items were undercooked. The Spring Roll, Sweet and Sour Chicken pieces, and Crab Rangoon underdone and mushy. The Crab Rangoon did not have Crab in them, they were cream cheese and onion. The Moo Shu Pork was very watery, but at least that had some flavor.

I bought a few dishes from here a couple weeks ago. We were just in town and were short on time to get some dinner so I Googled and ordered on line here. Everything in the bag was packaged so well. And the Curry Chicken was more flavorful than some Indian restaurants I’ve been to. Everything was good, highly recommend this place!!

Been looking for good Chinese food forever in Madison. (American style). I think this will be my new go to! General Tso’s, MooShu Beef, Chix Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon were all delicious. The fried rice had eggs, peas, onions and carrots (as it should) in it. I never thought good fried rice would be hard to find. The Rangoon wasn’t fishy or too sweet and had the perfect amount of filling. Yum!

This was my first time visiting. I recently heard that the owner used to cook for Tom's Red Pepper for 23 years and I was excited to try it out. I got Kung Pao Beef - extra spicy, with no vegetables, with white rice and a pork egg roll. Everything was delicious. However, I would caution that it truly was extra spicy. I might dial it back a notch next time lol. Overall, great experience from start to finish. This used to be my favorite dish at Red Pepper and it tastes the exact same. It's incredible. Highly recommend, they do a great job here.

I must highly recommend this restaurant - truly the best! We ordered Hot and Spicy Chicken and Beef with Broccoli Luncheon Specials, with egg rolls and fried rice. We ate at one of the two tables. Blown away by the fantastic flavors. The chicken was delicious, with a lovely, umami-rich, spicy sauce with flecks of pepper. The wok flavor of the chicken came through, making it really good. The egg rolls were the best ever - shatteringly crisp, with flavorful, almost creamy filling. Spouse returned to the counter, and ordered two more orders of egg rolls for us - and he doesn't really care for Chinese food! He also ordered dumplings to take home. Thin, fried crisp, with a little chew and great filling. The dipping sauce put them over the top! They made a great snack hours later. Spouse wants to go back, and so do I. Worth the trip from Sun Prairie! Please support this couple with your business. They are doing things the right way!

Been here twice now and it is some of the best Chinese food we've ever had. We live about 15-20 mins away but this will be our go to Chinese spot! Haven't tried too many menu items because the orange chicken has so much flavor with a bit of spice, I have a hard time wanting to try something else 😂.
Portions are great, you can easily get two meals out of an entree.
The owners are so friendly and always make you feel welcome which is hard to come by in the service industry these days. So glad we found this little gem!

Do not be misled by any poor reviews. This place is amazing and the owners are so friendly! Great sized portions. Very flavorful. The owner-chef was a long time chef for the old “Red Pepper” restaurant which was incredible in its day. If you know, you know. When I heard that this place opened, I was so thrilled. I highly recommend the hunan beef and wonton soup. Eating in atmosphere is ok…nothing fancy. For takeout, though, this is THE BEST AROUND BY FAR!

The quality of the food and preparation are way higher than expected for a pickup American Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. I had heard good things and was impressed. We had the Phoenix and Dragon chef special-General Tso and spicy shrimp. It was a really great way to try 2 excellent dishes. The beef and pea pods was my favorite.

Excellent!
I have a niche interest that I don’t get to explore as often as I’d like to— trying different cultural foods in countries that are neither where I live nor the country where the food originated. As such, I found that this restaurant provided an answer to a question that suddenly became critically important to me as soon as I saw the sign for La Choza Del Viejo— “what does Mexican-American Chinese food taste like in the United States?” — an even more nuanced question than is typically answered in these scenarios.
The answer to the question is that it tastes excellent! We got veggie spring rolls (with packets of spicy mustard sauce) and kung pao chicken and both were absolutely delicious. I’ll be returning and would love to try more from their menu.

Food was excellent. Everything we got was well-made and fresh. Quality and flavor were noticably better than what I expect for standard Chinese take out; everything was a notch better than our "regular" place.
I could actually taste the flavors and spices--orange in the orange chicken, ginger in the dumplings. The chicken and beef were tender with no grisly bits.
Everything was great, but our absolute favorite dish was the General Tso's tofu. We asked for it medium spicy and it was just perfect.
Overall, fabulous food! Portions were generous and the food was ready and hot when I picked it up.
Staff was kind and friendly and helped me with a couple small issues (use of coupon, missing item). It took a little bit of time to get things sorted out, but these kind of things are just normal growing pains for a new business. A little more training and confidence-building for front desk/cashier staff would be a good step.
I'm really excited for this place. I think it has the potential to be super-successful.
¡Gracias y buena suerte!

The food was hands down the best American Chinese I've had in Madison. I ordered takeout half an hour before they closed so I honestly wasn't expecting much. Had general tsos , it was crispy and stayed crispy while we ate, also ordered sweet sour shrimp which had a delightfuly light breading. A combination fried rice was also ordered, it was not bad but nothing special, I definately prefer it to many other places around Madison, if it only has larger shrimp and a bit more pork and vegetables it would be next level. Overall very pleased with this place, this is my new go to after having been let down with pretty much every other Chinese spot in the area, I don't usually write reviews but this spot deserves to be recognized.

You may see a Chinese restaurant with a Spanish name and be confused - don't be. Chinese-american food is massive in Mexico and Latin America, and stepping into La Choza Del Viejo is just like stepping into a little Chinese place in Mexico - very clean, with polite and speedy service! The food is delicious! There are a couple of little things that make a place like this a bit different from the standard Chinese takeout places in the area. Tofu is featured more prominently as a protein option, and they do beef teriyaki sticks instead of the usual chicken, for example. The Hunan Chicken, steamed dumplings, and egg rolls are great!
