Okay, if you live near here, or are just traveling through this beautiful area, please do yourself a favor and try this place out! You could go to any big city in the U.S. and not find a better Nicaraguan restaurant, and here in the middle of rural Wisconsin, lies this gem. I was shocked to see it show up on my google search of restaurants in the area, as you will find plenty of good taquerias in small towns around this area, I’m sure this is the only Nicaraguan restaurant in a town even close to this small. I got the sampler platter so that I could try some of everything and have leftovers to take home to my wife. Every single thing on the plate was perfect, as was my interesting cacao milk. The place is spotless, which I know is always a concern for people when it comes to small restaurants. I own a restaurant and always visually inspect places when I enter, and this place is clean top to bottom. The food is fresh and delicious, and the portions were very generous for a fair price. Please give them a shot, I am sure you’ll love it!

My friend and I went there today to eat and orderd french fries, which we waited 35 minutes to get. There were only two other people in the whole building. $12 and some odd cents for two orders of lukewarm french fries. That is outrageous. It was cold in there and whatever they burn the smoke was blue in the air. Would never go back to that place.

Dinner experience was wonderful. The drinks were delicious, all hand made! Fish ceviche was delicious and fresh. Steak was super tender and flavorful. We had 8 people in our group and the food was so good and hot! Everyone loved their meal. Our service was outstanding, they went above and beyond to make our evening special.

First time visit: Amazing food! Drove out from Portage to go to Wildcat Mtn State Park and stopped for lunch. We split the Maduro Con Queso appetizer, Chanko Con Yuca entree, and Pio V dessert. Highly recommended!

I have been going regularly since they opened and have had basically everything on the menu at this point. I like everything I have had. Friendly staff, fair prices, and it’s a surprising treat that it’s right here in the middle of nowhere. If you’re wondering if it’s worth the drive do it - if you’re already close by you’re lucky :)

A very unique restaurant in a strange place. We are from Minneapolis and this is the nearest Nicaraguan restaurant. About a 3.5 hour drive for us. I took my friend from Nicaragua there and he said it was very authentic and similar to the food where he is from. Staff/owners were very friendly. It is a unique place with good food. I hope they get the support of the community and can continue to grow.

I was fortunate to live in Nicaragua for almost a year, and I can say that the flavor and service are authentic and delicious! This is a family restaurant with a great focus on customer service and is decorated great for representing Nicaraguan food. I got house specialty steak dinner, which was good, but not great. I think I would need to try other things.

However, their billing system blindsided me with a larger than expected total because they added a sizeable tip automatically without letting me know. If you don't catch it, you can end up really paying out because there's space to tip more. That's real my only concern. I have seen this in city restaurants when dealing with large groups, but I was a party of one. That's not a good system.

Wow, just wow!!!! How is a restaurant this amazing in the little village of Hillsboro? We came with our whole family and sat down to an experience that took us to Nicaragua -- we got the Caballo Bayo La Marimba, which was a platter big enough for us all to share, loaded with authentic dishes characteristic of Nicaragua. The flavors were amazing! And the juices -- we were able to taste each of their house-made creations, with flavors that ranged from hibiscus to toasted corn. The tacos were out of this world, and we tried one of the authentic cocktails which was made with an amazing aged rum. The people were as incredible as the food -- we had such an engaging server, and by the time we left we felt like we were friends with everyone working in the restaurant -- we'll never forget them all waving as we left. We're super good cooks ourselves, so we have high standards -- and often restaurants leave us feeling sort of, "whatever". But this was an experience on multiple levels -- culinary, social, and experiential. We'll be coming back (we were too full to taste any of the desserts, which we were drooling over) to see our new friends at La Marimba, and to lose ourselves in an experience that you'd never imagine you'd find in small-town Wisconsin. What a gem!!!

I'm giving it a four right now (4.9 if I could) instead of a five just because they are still working out some of the kinks of a new restaurant on its first day. I encourage folks that are trying it to be patient. I'm sure things will get smoother. The food is excellent and the workers are friendly and doing their best. The owners were fully aware of the delays and handled them very well. After a delicious and filling breakfast, we're looking forward to trying lunch and supper here. We're very happy that La Marimba is in our area and wish them the best!
