Wow. Am I glad we found La Mexicana Grocery.
We are from the area originally - but live in Arizona now. We spend our summers in the Midwest.

That said. We know Mexican food. We have a Taco Tuesday group and go out every Tuesday to different Mexican restaurants each week. Since we are here in the West Bend area - we decided to try La Mexicana (for the restaurant) not the grocery store - for Taco Tuesday.

What a gem of a find!

I have driven by this store many times and never realized there is a small cantina restaurant in the back. The owners are awesome and make some of the best burritos I have had to date. And that’s saying something.

These burritos rival some of the best we get in Arizona. But right here in Wisconsin.

This is a down to earth place. You walk through the grocery store to reach the restaurant in the back. Simple and delicious food served by people that make it with love.

This is a small place and the owners do the work. No staff. Expect a wait if they are busy. But they are worth the wait.

I think our burrito weighed nearly 1.5lbs! Big and delicious.

We got the Carne Asada (which was great) and the pastor (with pineapple). Both loaded with ingredients.

The green and red sauce are excellent. The red had a good level of spice. But it is hard not to continue eating it - even as you get that burning sensation - it is so good. The burn doesn’t hang around. It’s really good.

You can dine in, but we did do “take out” as it was near closing time.

The menu is small. Mostly tacos, burritos, tostada, enchiladas, tortas and a chimichanga. A huge selection of ingredients to try in any of these items including lingua, chorizo, and 16 more…

We will go back. Repeatedly! Now that we know it’s here.

The grocery is worth a browse while you are waiting for your fresh made order to be done. Mostly Mexican fair and some bakery and meat options. Even take home Tamala’s.

Check it out. I hope your experience is as good as ours.

If you need a high class atmosphere. Don’t go here. You will simply be disappointed and that is not what this place is about. It is more or a diners, drive ins and dives type destination.

This is worth a a few more returns to try other menu items. But the burrito was winner-winner.

Lived in WB almost 5 years now and only just now finally tried La Mexicana’s take out….. and WOW, would give 10 stars if I could. So authentic, delicious, great value, and service. Can’t wait to go back! Only regret is not trying it sooner!

I love this place - they have the most amazing salsa in the refrigerated case near the register. I haven't had salsa this good since I lived in California and Arizona (this is the red and green sauce you would get with your food at the local taco shops). The owners are super friendly and accommodating, and the food is amazingly delicious. I highly recommend!

First time here, and it's definitely not the last.
The owners were super kind, helpful and welcoming. I had tacos, and my wife had a burrito. We both really like the food. We also picked up some groceries for a recipe I want to make, and the prices were reasonable.
If you are looking for authentic mexican ingredients or food, this is a good option.

For those of you who care, their English is probably better than yours.

I work in West Bend, but don't live here. Of all the times I've visited, I was blessed to find this hidden gem, best food in town. $20 got me 5 tacos, a glass bottle of coke and a water. Definitely will be part of all my future trips up here.

If you want truly authentic Mexican food, La Mexicana is THE place in West Bend! Their tacos are phenomenal! Everything is made fresh to order.
Just today I went in for breakfast. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros...and again, I was not disappointed! Everything was excellent. I will definitely be going back for breakfast more often.

We went their on a Sunday night, four adults, one teenager, one toddler, and a one year old, it was our first time their. Had Mexican style nachos, cheese quesadila, cheese and steak quesadila, tamale dinner, tacos, and a burrito. Everyone enjoyed everything, I had the burrito with chorizo and steak, recommended by the owner. I compare Mexican restaurants based on there best burrito, it was honestly the best burrito I'd ever had, so flavorful and just blew me away. The owners were so friendly. It felt like we were enjoying a different culture, not that we were in West Bend. We will definitely be patrons of this restaurant as long as we can.

Went in. Wasnt greeted, had to figure out how to order. Ordered and sat down, waited over an hour and then they came and asked what we wanted again. Multiple people got their food before ours & when we FINALLY got our food we took it to go because we had already been waiting for so long and when we get to the car to open it, they gave us nothing we asked for. I've been to some amazing authentic restaurants in the Fox Valley area and I'll stick to those, will never come here again.
