The artwork alone is worth the visit. Beautiful paintings and murals on the walls, combined with the furniture and other decor set a lovely backdrop to a wonderful meal. Wow what a gem! Everything was delightful. I got the grilled lamb and my partner got the vegan bowl. Every component was seasoned delightfully and well rounded. Delices de Awa is one of our FAVORITE restaurants in Madison! A hidden treasure, it is well worth a visit. Awa and her staff are always warm and welcoming, the food always amazing. We recently visited with friends who came for the first time and we ALL raved about the incredible food and the lovely environment. This time we shared yummy beef skewers, Poulet Braisé--an Ivory Coast staple and so yummy!, and Chicken Suya, another Ivory Coast specialty and also so yummy!
Delices is a great place to bring out of town guests or a date night with friends or your partner. You will feel like you are visiting the Ivory Coast while never leaving Madison!

Overpriced and tastes very bland. I was so excited to try and so disappointed when I tasted it. Teeny tiny little chewy 4 pcs of beef skewers with teeny tiny side salad is $17.00. I wish skewers tasted good, but tasted so bland. No herbs, no seasonings.
Also got 1/3 of chicken for $18 and it was way smaller than what it supposed to be. Also chicken was not juice and tasteful, sadly it was soggy and tasteless.
They’re selling appetizers for meal price and nothing special about their food.

I have been keeping an eye on Les délices de Awa since I learned about it. Not sure if the vegan menu is new or I just missed it when I first looked it up but WOW! I'm so glad I looked again!

I got the peanut butter stew and fufu with a side of the ghost pepper sauce for delivery. The flavors and textures were amazing! I forced myself to save some to eat later, but it was difficult to stop. So good.

My finance and I wanted a snack before we cooked dinner the other night. So, we got the chicken pastels to go and got a beer over at barley pop to enjoy them with. This has become a habitual routine because they pastels are really that good!

The food was great. I can’t eat capsaicin. This was flavorful without the use of
chilies (though they make hot sauce you can request). We had a pike that was perfectly cooked, chicken that was moist and tender, plus goat that was exactly what goat should be. All the sides were good, but the plantain!!! The best I’ve had in Madison. We also loved the relaxing decor, music, and atmosphere.

To top it all off were the friendly and accommodating staff. The owner was attentive, answering questions with patience and grace. I’m in a wheelchair. It was a bit of a tight squeeze in places. (But the entrance is easy.) Everyone was helpful setting my group up.

I really want to love this place. Their flavors are excellent but the value needs improvement. The chicken portions are small and mostly bone. They are constantly changing how many sides come with an entree. They used to offer two, then one, and now there are none. The entrees are too expensive without any sides included. The only reason this doesn't get a 5 is because the meat itself needs to be cooked a bit better. E.g. longer/slower maybe some prep ahead of time so you're not cooking it from raw on the spot. My wife and I had the pleasure of having lunch earlier today at Les Délices De Awa. This Ivorian restaurant was recommended by a coworker (Afi). The decor was vibrant and the atmosphere cozy. The menu today boasted fresh fish, I opted for the pan fried Sea Bass, Chicken Pastels and my wife had the vegan bowl. One word “scrumptious”, I tried to keep Western etiquette but, in the end I opted to embrace my culture and after throughly washing my hands. I utterly devoured the fish on the platter. The restaurant looks cool and the Suya Lamb and fried plantains were delicious. Also the staff seemed nice and I got there right when it opened so I had no problem placing my order or getting it in a timely manner.

What I didn't think it was so great was the change in menu and what appears to be an elimination of the 2 side dishes that were supposed to come with every entree.

I had to pay for the only side I got and because they didn't have Lamb with bone in you couldn't get a lamb dish without paying an extra $2 for boneless which did not seem fair.

I hope they work things out so it's more clear when you get there exactly what you're paying for, and I would suggest reconsidering cutting out the sides with the entrees.

Les Délices de Awa is an incredible find in Madison! I recently visited with my son, and we were both blown away by the quality of the food and the warmth of the experience. Our group of four tried Les delices de Awa for dinner Saturday evening. I haven't eaten much West African food but what I had was sensational. :)

The restaurant is located on busy Atwood, but we found parking in the lot behind the building. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating but even though it was Saturday night we found a couple of two tops to slide together. We ordered at the counter and sat down. They brought pitchers of water and our food when it was ready. It did take a bit longer than we expected for our food to arrive. There did seem to be a steady stream of folks doing carry out of delivery.

That said, when our food arrived, it was amazing. I wish I could tell you exactly what I had, but I failed to take a photo of the menu, and the menu online is not the same. I can tell you I had the lamb. The seasoning on it was unlike anything I have had before but I highly recommend it and would love to have it more often. The plantains were slightly sweet and better than any plantains I have had. My other side was a dish I had not heard of, but it was also delicious. I can't say enough about the unique spices and seasonings. We all really loved the food and I look forward to returning and trying more of the unique flavors.

Ah, the evening held such promise—a reservation at an African restaurant that my girlfriend and I had been eagerly anticipating. Our taste buds were ready to embark on a flavorful journey across the continent. Yet, the true journey that night seemed to be the endless wait for any semblance of service.

As a food critic with a love for African cuisine, I was prepared to indulge in culinary wonders. But instead, we were left parched and unattended for 25 long minutes—long enough for a tomato to ripen or an awkward silence to turn into an awkward eternity. Water? Not a drop. Interaction from the staff? Not even a crumb.

The scene played out like an ironic twist of culinary theater: the staff seemed locked in a secret pact, intensely focused on the kitchen while the patrons around us looked like extras in a play called “Invisible Customers.” One almost wonders if they were preparing for a Michelin review from a ghost.

After a solid half-hour of testing our patience and pondering life’s mysteries (like how to get a waiter’s attention), we decided to cut our losses and take our appetites elsewhere. $150 later, spent at a different establishment, we concluded that at least our wallets were lighter, even if our spirits were too.

As for the future of this establishment, I fear they may have perfected the art of cooking up disappointment. With a business model like that, I’d wager they’ll be closed by February 2025—unless, of course, they start serving invisible food to match the invisible service.

I went for a dinner date and was worried at first because I saw no vegetarian meals on the dinner menu, despite having checked online. This is easily some of the best food in Madison. It fills a space that was severely lacking in the area. I’m vegetarian and while there isn’t a huge selection of dishes I can eat (I never expect a restaurant to have any so I was super excited to see they had even a few!), it doesn’t matter because the dishes they do have are so incredibly flavorful, rich, and perfectly balanced.

I went with two people who do eat meat and they were equally excited about the chicken and lamb dishes they ordered.

It’s ok but they got my order wrong. I ordered the fish pastries and they gave me beef which I couldn’t eat because I don’t eat red meat. They also didn’t give me the rice I ordered and the whole fish was incredibly salty. Not somewhere I’m going to eat at again.

*incredible* food. Flavorful, fresh. The ginger juice was divine—tasted creamy but not in a dairy way but in a way where there was almost an undertone of coconut water—simply incredible because it still had the good burn of fresh ginger. We just ate at Les Delices de Awa, and I can’t speak highly enough of our experience. The Sunday menu was incredible, with the best dip/sauce I’d ever had served with yucca. I think it was a green garlic aioli of sorts. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was flavorful. My husband had the plantains as well and he devoured them. I’m limited with my experience in West African food, but we will absolutely be going back. The staff was kind, courteous, and helpful. We had our two year old with us and they so accommodating to him as well. Give them a try!

I really struggled with this review. The experience started so well but ended up being pretty rough.
I went with 2 others with the intent to be able to share and try a bunch of things.
Upon entering, you are smacked in the face with mouth-watering smells. The restaurant is small but colorful and decorated. There is an open kitchen, so you can watch your food being prepared.
It was a while before a waitress came to our table, so we were ready with appetizer, drink, and main orders. Our juice drinks and one of our appetizers came out about 30 minutes after ordering, and the second came out at about 45 minutes. We never received the 3rd; there was a mistake and it went to a different table. The restaurant took it off our bill when we let them know. Both of the appetizers we received were very delicious.
After that, we waited another hour until our meals came out. At this point, it was nearly 30 minutes after the restaurant closed. At first glance, our food looked great, but quickly, disappointment set in. What they served us had amazing flavor, but it was 75% just bones. I fully acknowledge that this food is stewed with the bones for their flavor, but it felt like they served us just whatever was left in the bottom of the pot. They served my friend literally a bowl of the chicken carcass and then brought out a small bowl with a cut up chicken breast because they realized when they were serving his food that there was no edible meat left; we were very glad they did this. My dish had maybe 2oz of edible meat amongst the bones. Again, the food did have amazing flavor, but for the price I wanted more than a few morsels of chicken picked from between the bones.
I wanted to like this place way more than I actually did. We arrived 1.25 hours before close and didn't end up leaving until after they closed. The atmosphere in the kitchen seemed very much "we are casually cooking as a family" rather than "we have hungry customers and need to turn over tables."
If this place is still open in a year, I would like to try it again to see how it has changed, but I stress that looks like it will be a big "IF" based on what I saw.
If I could offer a suggestion, they should really make some sort of combo meal out of an order of pastel and an order of yucca fries because both of those things were awesome and since both are fried they could be turned out quickly.

Thank you for your very thoughtful response. I do understand your restaurant is new and is still going through growing pains, but my reviews are meant to be an honest retelling of my experience - hopefully with some nuggets of constructive criticism that can be used to highlight areas of improvement.
I generally have a policy of not making a fuss or 'talking to the manager' during my dining experience. I don't want my meal comped because I worry that would bias my review or I wouldn't feel comfortable offering an honest review. Plus, after 2.25 hours, I just wanted to go home.
I do think that if you can get the kinks ironed out, this restaurant will be successful. The smells and flavors I experienced were great and I know those can only come from time and love.
I thank you for your offer to come back for a dinner on you, but I must decline; I never want my reviews to feel like they are bought or influenced. I will agree to come back far sooner than a year from now (but with some time so you can figure out staffing and process) to give your restaurant another try and I will update my review accordingly.

I had never tried West African food before and I'm always looking to try something new. It was absolutely delicious and I will be going back to try more! I ordered the fried donuts and black eyed pea appetizer. I had never eaten goat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect...it was very tender and flavorful. I tried both the red and the brown juice and the red one tasted kind of like a light cranberry juice and the brown one, my favorite, had a little bit of a sweet yet tangy taste. My friend ordered the peanut stew and added chicken, which I also tried and that was the best stew we had ever had. The décor, seating, tableware, etc is thoughtful and the owner had served us and she was very friendly and you could tell that she put her heart and soul into every aspect of this business. I love that the menu wasn't crowded and overwhelming and there's something on there for everyone.

We tried the beef and chicken pastels, lamb and chicken entrees, sorrel juice, plantains, rice, and yucca. I couldn’t pick a favorite because all of the flavors are so good.

My partner and I grabbed takeout from here this week - the lamb and goat soup knocked our socks off! The meat was tender, high quality and perfectly cooked; the broth was rich and flavorful, well spiced without overwhelming heat. Used to be a food truck, recently opened an in-person location. Black owned, the restaurant does west African food with a specific focus on Côte d'Ivoire. Saturday and Sunday have unique menus - pictured is a sardine brunch that is on the Saturday menus. I'd recommend coming back and trying different items on different days - for example, the peanut stew available Saturdays only is amazing!

Food is incredibly delicious and fresh, and reasonably priced for the quality. They also make their own in-house juices. Despite being open so recently, service was excellent and the interior aesthetics are beautiful.

Best authentic African food, if you miss your country or just want to explore our exquisite food or others, don’t even think twice Awa is your choice! The paella was just a bomb my children are usually picky with food but they ate it all without questioning me! 😅. The fisherman soup made me feel like home I could not get enough of it. Awa is an amazing caterer and made our wedding day even better than we could have imagined. Her food is so delicious and flavorful. We had compliments weeks after the wedding on how amazing the food was. Some people said it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. Awa was so flexible, and such a pleasure to work with. She customized the menu to include food of my culture (Haiti).

Her food is bursting with flavor and she has such a kind soul. What she wants more than anything is to make your day/gathering a success and she will work hard for it. Awa took initiative, calling our venue, making sure she knew the layout, what to expect, etc., so she could deliver. And without a doubt she delivered. We could not recommend a better chef. She cares about her clients, and is passionate about cooking quality food and her work. She even ordered wooden cups directly from Cote D'Ivoire to fit our Caribbean theme.

Her food presentation is spot on. I can go on and on about how amazing she is, but I hope I convinced you. Hire her for your wedding or event, and try her food, you will not regret it.
