This is such a cool spot in Middleton. The bartenders are awesome — super friendly and welcoming. I love the setup here, especially in the summer when they open up the walls and it feels like you’re on a patio. It has that indoor/outdoor vibe that makes it really unique.

They also host Premier Trivia, which draws a fun crowd and makes for a great night out. I didn’t eat while I was here, but the atmosphere, the service, and the setup were enough to win me over. I’ll definitely be back.

Went for lunch with a baby based of Reddit saying it was a good spot for foodie adults with kids. Dining room was 2/3 full but not too loud. Beer list was extensive and they actually had some of the more obscure options available (sours).

Food was very good and service was quick. Reddit nailed it. Will definitely be back.

One last note to the parents- they have a changing table. Never a guarantee at a spot like this but always nice.

The owner of the Airbnb where we are staying for 2 nights recommended this place for drinks and dinner. We are so happy she did. My girlfriend and I arrived having very high hopes for Longtable as when we’ve passed by it’s always seemed packed. Unfortunately not only did it fall below those expectations but was probably the poorest dining experience I’ve yet had in greater Madison.

After we grabbed a seat I went up to the bar to order a beer. I waited there for about 5-6 min before any staff acknowledged me despite it not appearing busy. Before having the beer poured I presented them a “pub pass” which is a coupon book of sorts that gives you a free beer at certain bars/breweries in the area. When I showed him this, he told me can only give only $7.50 off a beer. Surprised, I didn’t complain and instead just downsized my beer order. While I ended up paying just dollar difference, they really should not participate in a promotion like that if they can’t honor it. No other establishment I’ve been to with the pub pass in Madison has done that.

After waiting about 25-30 minutes, me and my girlfriend’s food came out. We ordered the Nashville hot fish sandwich, and the bear burger which is where things really went downhill.

The bear burger was incredibly small, the patty was maybe a little larger than the size of single McDonald’s patty which was especially discouraging considering it was $17 for the burger plus another $3 to upgrade to fries. I can understand small portions at that price if the quality is amazing but this was not the case either. The burger itself was very very dry and overcooked and the provolone “crisp” in the burger was obviously cooked off that morning and had a stale quality to it. While the brioche bun was decent and the fries were passable, they hardly salvaged the burger in its entirely.

Even worse though was the Nashville Hot fish sandwich. Now I don’t mind fried foods being a little greasy, I used to work as a fry cook and understand it’s the nature of deep frying sometimes. That said, this fish was not just a little oily but was leaking grease like it had blown an oil gasket with a very thick coating of batter. To the point it tasted less like a piece of fried fish and more like the most terrible doughnut you can imagine. The oil pouring out of the fish leaked so much, that the bun started falling apart from soaking it up. Additionally it was missing the sauce it was supposed to come with. Eventually we gave up and picked it apart to try to salvage our losses.

All in all, I would never willingly return to Longtable, there’s a million other burger and bar spots in Madison with cheaper drinks, better service and properly prepared food.

The only bummer and reason for one star is we were chit chatting after dinner and were asked to leave for a large party that was waiting. Such a disappointing end to an otherwise great experience. I understand they need to turnover tables, but we were enjoying a long overdue girls night that was abruptly cut short.
We ordered several appetizers and drinks prior to our meal so it’s not as if we weren’t spending money. We were there for around an hour and a half at this point, so if you’re looking for a place to sit and chat over a great meal unfortunately this isn’t it

We went in with relatively high expectations given the prices and were very disappointed. There were a lot of beer options, which was about the only positive.

I rarely care about the quality of service, but our server was rude, inattentive, and had virtually nothing to say about the menu items. We also overheard him giving short and very surly comments to other people simply asking for any additional menu and taplist details. It appears that we got the bad one that night, because other areas of the restaurant had much more attentive service, but regardless, no place should have staff that hit-or-miss.

The food was honestly awful. If one or two things were bad, I would chalk it up to an off night, but almost every element of everything we tried was at best sub-par. The frites were fine (how bad can fried potatoes be?) but the sauces were sad. The garlic aioli was very bland, but the beer cheese "sauce" was watery beer cheese soup. The consistency was so thin that you couldn't use it as a sauce, and it had almost no flavor. The people next to us actually complained about theirs, and a server gave a (non-sensical) explanation of how "when it's fresh, it's watery" and then offered a replacement. Sadly the frites were the best thing we tried, because the entrees were awful. Half of the nacho toppings were cold, the brisket was almost non-existent (and also cold), the "cheese sauce" was fresh-from-the-package Velveeta (also cold) and the other toppings were clearly prepared long before the plate was served. The veggies at Chipotle are significantly fresher than what they put on the nachos here. The Philly Cheesesteak was fine, but had the same mediocre (and room temperature) cheese sauce, and a very plain bun. All of this would be somewhat par for the course if menu prices were half what they were, but for almost 20 a plate, it was unacceptable. We talked about mentioning any of this to the management, but given the bad service mentioned above, we simply wanted to get out as quickly as possible.

We had been meaning to try this place for a while given its great location and taplist, and were sorely let down. We will not be giving them a second chance.

Good was good, but didn't wow. We had the turkey and Brie and the brisket bowl. The cheese curds were crunchy and melty. However the batter retained too much oil, which dominated the flavor. The kids liked the dipping sauce. I thought it over powered the cheese flavor.
The beer selection is great for IPA lovers, a little thin for other styles, but that seems standard at most places. The can/bottle selection was nice.

The reason for 4 stars is because I got sick from the gluten free brisket Mac (have a gluten allergy, not celiac). Everyone else in our party really enjoyed their food, minus the small amounts of protein on the mac. Drinks were great we all had either beer or cider on tap. Service was a tad slow and people that came in after us were already done eating by the time our food came. Our food was also lukewarm. Our waitress was kind of friendly but understandably stressed as she was very busy.

Honestly, not the best but not bad? I tend not to like impossible burgers, so I opted for the veggie sandwich with fries. It was pretty good (never tried beet hummus so that was cool) but nothing extraordinary. We arrived early at 5:30 and There were still 3 to 4 open tables outside and three inside. We gave our food order as soon as we could to the waiter when he had time. We ordered two hors d’oeuvres and he said do you want them before the food and we said yes An hour later, we asked about the soft pretzel and he said oh I think I see it coming out and was finally brought to our table. Five minutes later three out of four meals came and the second hors d’oeuvres came and the waiter said to me oh, I thought you Asked for this with your meal and I said no I didn’t. Which is odd he would even bring that up when I didn’t ask about it-so seems he must’ve known it should have been brought earlier? . Both hors d’oeuvres were cool and were both supposed to be hot- as the second hors d’oeuvre was goat cheese puffs, which are fried.
Three people had ordered burgers and fries and the fourth a bowl of their staple beer cheese soup on their menu at all times. 5 to 10 minutes after those that had burgers were eating them our waiter came and said oh I’m sorry we ran out of the beer cheese soup. After waiting for an hour and 20 minutes?! He asked if I wanted to order a different meal and I said no. We waited an hour and 20 minutes for our meal and no one wanted to sit there for another hour for a meal. So for Mother’s Day celebration, I had a few goat cheese puffs😥
One of the burgers was ordered medium and came well done and dry.
After paying our bill, the waiter said The new batch of cheese soup was ready and did I want some and I said no we were leaving, but I would take a cup to go. He said he felt bad and wouldn’t charge me which was six dollars but I opened the container when arriving home and it was about 2/3 of a cup of soup🤷‍♀️
Also, they bring no receipt just show you the total for the meal was $140 which seemed high but with no receipt how would you know?
Really sad about this as shouldn’t have this kind of dining experience especially for the price. Always happy to pay the price for quality and service though.
Would be hard to go back after an experience like this, even though we think their concept is good.

For our first time visiting Long Table, the atmosphere and food was good but our group (of 7) was disappointed by the way we were treated and served. We arrived before it was busy and had made some food and drink orders but were served after others who ordered after us. We had to constantly go up to check on our drink and food order as it took a good 15-20 minute for one person to get their drink on tap and another 30-40 minute wait for our 3 rather simple appetizers that seemed to have been forgotten due to a “printing issue”. Stopped in around 2 pm, hungry, thirsty, hopeful. Sign at the front when I walked in told me to seat myself, so I followed the directions and took a stool at a window. I think around 10 to 16 minutes later I placed my order: The Potosi brewery tap was out, but they had bottles and I think cans? but I chose a different tap. It arrived about 10 minutes later. Maybe about 10 to 16 minutes later THE BEST in house made cheese curds arrived. I have worked in the Food Service and Hospitality industry in Dane County for over 10 years, have eaten a gazillion cheese curds, have made them from scratch, whoever made these curds Nailed It - Perfect! Too bad the person who overcooked my burger and undercooked my SOGGY fries lacked the proper skills to do their part correctly. I ordered the Smash Burger Medium Rare with "frites", I cut the burger in half to see that it was Well Done. Yeah, Longtable, go forget yourselves. Overpriced and incapable.

Nice place with open air seating when in season. Ordered the brisket sandwich and got frites as a side. The brioche bun was great, the meat was well done, and the addition of giardinera was different but it worked. The sandwich was good but felt like it was missing something. The frites were very good as well. I chose the beer cheese as my dipping sauce. I won’t select again. It was runny and pretty flavorless. I asked if I could get the cheese curds as a side instead and would pay the full price for the curds and was flat out told no. So between that and the beer cheese is why my rating is a 4

Was very impressed with Longtabe Beer Cafe. Was recommended by several locals and I would now recommend as well. Very nice beer selection and great food menu. The grilled cheese was awesome (it is Wisconsin after all) and the cafe offers several outdoor tables. We went on Saturday night after Badger football game and the place was busy but getting table was not a problem. Great service, great menu and reasonable prices with a nice atmosphere - recommend you check it out !

The salad with an apple cider vinegaret and the addition of smoked trout was very good. I did enjoy the New Glarus Raspberry Tart beer, which had great Raspberry flavor. If you like fried cheese curds, their's is a must try. The batter is light and crispy, yum!

I came in on a weekday for a late lunch. I'm really easy to please but the service was disappointing. Despite being one of only 3-4 tables with at least 2 employees working the front end, it took 10-15 minutes to take my order, 20 minutes to get my food, and 10 minutes waiting for the check.

I ordered the house burger and I guess I should have read more carefully because it was literally just meat, cheese, and sauce. The bun was good, but the patty was overcooked and the whole thing was rather bland.

At least the salad was nice. And they do have a great beer selection.

I would not go back unless I have lots of time, and even then I'll just grab a beer before heading somewhere else for food.

I went about 3pm on a Saturday, the bar was full and about half the tables. It was a pleasant atmosphere and the choices of beers was great. The only downfall was the service at the bar was poor, I had an empty glass sitting for 15 minutes and I still was unsure who was bartending. I finally got a person's attention and got a second beer. Staff was restocking glasses but was unable to help me. It just seemed odd with 4 people milling around that nobody seemed to know exactly who was to do what. The menu looked really good and I was going to order but again nobody at the time could take it. When I was leaving I waited to pay for two beers but nobody was behind the bar so I left $20 under my glass and left. I hope the reviews I have seem are more indicative of the Long table than my experience and I will give it another go.

This was a really fun place. Great service. Great beer. Great food. I got the open face brisket with beer cheese soup. Absolutely amazing! Right combo of onion, pepper, & carrot chunks.

AMAZING and then some! Longtable Beer Cafe is an incredible place in its own right, and it was also a spectacular place to host (and dazzle) our nearest and dearest. We had a delicious, fun, and cozy rehearsal lunch with our family and friends, and they all couldn't stop raving about the food and beer. Matt, Andrea, and Justin (owners/manager) ROCKED! And are a huge reason why our event was so successful - they accommodated our party size (giving us the namesake long table as well as another table), helped us make food selections on time, and even gave us a complimentary bottle of an awesome sour beer to celebrate. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are grateful to their spectacular hospitality.

Dined here recently and had a mixed experience. The food was largely excellent but the service was so, so bad. When we’ve gone before it’s always been counter service, but this time they were only doing waited tables. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but we waited a very long time at every step of service. It culminated with the bartender (who had taken over service by then) taking our credit cards but not giving them back until we hunted them down.

The food was generally good. We loved the pretzel, the cheese curds, and the tacos. The fish fry was disappointing, though, with heavy and off-tasting breading. Their beer selection still excels, and it’s a fun location and ambiance.

Great place to get dinner and a beer! Awesome selection of beer on tap and in cans. Wine, seltzers, and nonalcoholic options available. We got a burger with chickpea salad and pulled pork sandwich with fries- both were good. Longtable has good options for vegetarians and vegans too! I’ll admit I had really high expectations, but that’s because the rating on Google is so high. My hypothesis is that people love the gimmick of sitting at a long table and having a large beer list. I am not into the gimmick but that doesn’t effect my review. I am simply rating the entree that I ordered. I ordered the brisket bowl for $17. If you are familiar with bowl style entrees from a place like forage or Qdoba this is not that. I would say it was like nachos but in a bowl. It’s was 60% tortilla strips. The brisket I assumed would be the same style that would have been served if I had ordered the brisket alone, instead it was tiny cubes, like the size of a fingernail. I didn’t get to taste the sauce because there was maybe a splash. I’m so confused how they decided that this was a $17 item, or something that should be on the menu at all. I found probably 6 tiny piece of brisket that looked safe to eat, others were just fat or weirdly colored. As you can imagine with an extremely small piece of meat it was incredibly dry and tasted like nothing. I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face as a waitstaff handing this to someone.

Definitely worth a stop of you're in Middleton!Love this place! Great selection of drinks. The food was better than I remembered. I had the brisket grilled cheese and it was amazing. The brisket wasn't dry and the aged hook cheese was delicious. Usually I'm not a fan of sourdough but it's fits this sandwich so well. I had coleslaw as my side and it balanced the flavors nicely. My wife had the baked cod and loved it. That's a good sign, as she is a brit and knows good fish and chips. The ambience was pleasant although I would love to see them in a bigger space eventually. We ended up there at 5pm on a sat and just beat the crowd.

One of our favorite places on the west side of Madison. Shared long tables (ha, who would've guessed!) with a menu focused on sandwiches, bbq, and charcuterie. Great soups and salads as well. Beer is the reason to come though - 12 excellent and frequently rotating taps plus several hundred beers in a cooler either to-go or for on-site enjoyment. Inside, tall bare industrial-like ceilings do seem to make a busy night even louder than you'd expect it to be, but it's not unbearable. Small patio on the west side of the building is rarely in the sun and otherwise relatively sheltered. A few TVs if that's what you're looking for a well. Parking available on several nearby streets as well as the surface and underground garage to the west, accessed from Elmwood just before the post office.
