Mexican food is my goto so I’ve visited quite a few restaurants over the years. The food was just not that good. The chicken and rice were both dry and the chicken had no flavor. The beans were ok. Although the service was disorganized and they forgot my margarita, the food came out pretty quick and they were very friendly. It seems very outdated with price tags stuck on the menu like you’d see at an old grocery store.
Overall the staff were the only good thing from my experience.

Good food with good portion sizes (although my food came lukewarm like it had been sitting out for a while) but service needs a lot of work. They forgot our drinks, we waited half an hour for our food and they forgot to bring sauces, refill chips and being silverware for the entire table.

Not sure if they were overwhelmed by many guests or there was a racial component that the server couldn't overcome, but everyone around us was getting much quicker and thorough service which was odd.

I've been here previously when it was more empty and it was better do it could be hit or miss I guess, but this was a big miss this time.

PS: don't bother with the drinks, the food is what is most quality here

I only got a dozen tamales to go. The pork ones were really good, the chicken were just okay. I thought I was getting all pork and next time I will ask if that is an option. The staff didn't seem very friendly and I came when they were not busy. Next time I will try something from the restaurant, too.
Edit: I got a pambazo a few years ago and it was a total ripoff. Bread soaked in sauce, nothing really inside it. It was also kind of burnt and not cheap. I just came across this old review and noticed it hadn't been updated for the pambazo incident. Their prices on everything are really high, too, I haven't been back. Downgraded from 4 stars to 2. There are much better places to go in Madison.

I frequent this restaurant about once a week. I love their chicken soup. It is absolutely amazing. I love the tortillas that come with it so I can make my own as I go. It pairs well with a margarita or one of the beverages from the grocery store attached to it.Chips and salsa are amazing in the service is always top-notch one of my favorite restaurants.

I can't even give them a single star.
For the second time my husband and I walked out of the restaurant because we were just ignored never got service. We seated at the bar thinking that maybe we could get faster service 😔 NO. They still ignored US. So we walked out 🤢 no without letting the owner know about it. Because my husband thinks it's because of him I'm Latina my husband is Caucasian he doesn't speak Spanish. Needless to say we're not going back there again 😞

Horrible service.
Went to get food with a friend, had us waiting for about 10 min to get a menu, and 30min to get our order in, horrible servers attitude, servers were just talking all the time by the register. Didn’t bring all the item we asked and when I got up to ask for them they gave me bad attitudes.
I don’t get how this place has 4 stars.

Kids meal es el mismo precio que de un adulto, pedimos unos nuggets, que debería incluir 8 piezas y solo trajo 4. Nunca checaron la mesa, no llevan cubiertos, tienen actitud y les da igual. I ordered the Cecina Plate. Two students at my summer school where I am teaching recommended this restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised there it is a store too, and across the street Mexican popsicles! The first day I had snacks from each. The second day after work I had the best Hispanic meal I have ever eaten! I have had a buffet in Cancun too. The margarita in front of dancing was nice. Glad I was here for lunch. I have the rest of the day to burn it off. I did take a little home.

This Mexican store has an attached restaurant that offers authentic Mexican food!.

The store offers many items that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as fresh and peeled cactus leaves, molcajetes, piñatas, menudo, tamales and more.

The restaurant is conveniently located next to the store, which allows one to buy in the store after having a good meal. The food is great and truly authentic, portions are generous and the menu is typical of what you'd find in a 'fondita' in Mexico. You can find alcoholic and traditional beverages too, such as 'cantaritos' and 'aguas frescas'.

Some things they could do to improve:

As a regular customer, I wish the tables for 4 were a bit larger, since the dishes are too large and it is difficult to accommodate all things in the table.

Offer a greater selection of sauces, maybe in small molcajetes.

Hand made tortillas could be an optional value addition, which I'd be willing to pay some extra cost for.

For non Mexican customers, offer a piece of history of the dishes in the menus, for example, mention the origin of the dish or the state where it comes from, as well as hotness level indicators next to each dish.

Although the menus are reminiscent of what people in Mexico does (crossed out prices) it feels a bit unprofessional. I'd suggest replacing the menus when the prices change, or just offer a QR code next to each dish that the customers could use to check the prices, pay online and order the food.

The waitresses will often be rude and don’t respond well to any sort of complaint, even when you’re clearly right. As a waitress myself, I don’t complain often, so I was taken aback by their response. They have also acted similarly with my family. Some should consider working on their customer service skills.

Honestly, this place has the most authentic Mexican food in Madison! So much flavor and reasonable prices! Everything is made so simply and with so much flavor that they don't need to add other stuff to it! Some taco places added cold slaw and pineapple salsa but not here! The best tacos made with amazing flavored meat, Onions and cilantro! I highly recommend the Tostadas as well! We also got the Birria tacos which were good as well! I have had tacos from the Los Gemelos restaurant (attached to the Tienda Los Gemelos) many times over a number of years, both dine in and take out on numerous occasions. I have always been completely satisfied with them not only while eating them but for many hours after (on all occasions!), which is something remarkable and unusual in the realm of restaurants and even tacos. Whether dine in or take out, the quality is very consistent. The corn tortillas are large and slightly dry but in a very good way. Taco meals have never felt too heavy from them. The staff are always really courteous, too. Their other restaurant food is very good, too--perhaps I might give more insight into that in the future--and they have very good horchata, to boot. The atmosphere and vibes of the restaurant and the shop have always been positive. Great job!

Having worked in the area for a number of years, I have gotten to know this place very well. Their al pastor tacos are the best I have had in the area, and honestly the best I have had compared to a lot of other places. Truly, these are better than tacos I've had in NYC and Texas, which were supposedly the best of the best. When I eat tacos anywhere, Tienda Los Gemelos is what I compare them to. I love it there and you may or may not (but definitely will) too.

This place has a warm Midwest comfortable hometown feel and there always are people coming and going from the grocery store and restaurant.
Pro-tip, you can buy their freshly made Pico De Gallo from the restaurant bar to take home for your chips or whatever you like! Service was friendly, happy and they were attentive to customers! The food was great last time we ate here and it's wheelchair ♿ accessible. Definitely worth eating here!

First of all if you’re a Mexican restaurant at least make a good spicy sauce, it’s embracing that their hottest sauce is litterly guajillo sauce not spicy at all. Second of I’ve never tried a pambazo with NO BEANS!!!! This place is not authentic at all I would rate it at a 0 stars if I could, also prices are to high for the quality of the food, I seriously do not recommended!!
