Feedback on Our Dining Experience – 9/25

Dear Mad Elephant Team,

My wife and I dined at your restaurant in Appleton on September 25. We would like to share our honest feedback, as we believe it may help you improve.

First, regarding service:

The server greeted us without a smile and immediately asked if we were “ready,” without giving us time or a proper welcome.

When taking our order, she did not repeat it back to confirm accuracy.

When delivering dishes, she did not explain what each item was, and instead placed them down loudly without using a tray.

Empty plates were not cleared proactively, and throughout the meal she spent most of her time sitting at the bar on her phone.

At no point did she return to check on us or ask how our meal was.

Second, regarding food quality:

All the meat dishes we ordered appeared to be pre-fried and then covered in sauce. This style felt more like a shortcut than authentic Thai cooking.

The overall presentation and taste fell below the standard we have experienced at many other Thai restaurants.

To be very honest, if no improvements are made in both service training and food preparation, we strongly believe guests will choose other restaurants in the area that offer a much better dining experience.

We hope this feedback is received in the constructive spirit it is intended. With some changes, your restaurant could become much stronger.

Wanted to try something completely different with my daughter. Unfortunately, our server was new so asking questions about the food was basically useless.. which made it a lot harder to decide. Also, my daughter order a Cesar salad and said on the side but obviously meant beforehand. But she brought it out with her meal. Fun atmosphere, though.

We ordered Uber eats. We both had chicken teriyaki. It was a tiny portion of dark meat (creepy chicken). There was NO flavor. The veggies were mushy. Highly disappointed. Will never be back.

Very dissatisfied. $39 for sesame chix that
Looked like chix nuggets. A very small portion at that. Sweet and sour sauce on the side. That’s NOT sesame chicken. That’s crap. Ragoons were awful as well.

If you’re looking for great food with tons of asian flavors, but also can get the comfort of a steak and hamburger, look no further than the Mad Elephant! This is a good spot for friends gathering a date night or large group! The owners are in the kitchen, cooking up the food so you know it’s authentic! Highly recommending this restaurant!

Came in for an early dinner (4pm) so just me and my husband in restaurant. We ordered to specialty cocktails which were delicious! Had the crunchy tuna appetizer and I have had a lot of seared ahi tuna appetizers and the crunch came from the sear which was amazing and it steak was fresh and lean. For mains I did the crispy duck and my husband did the special Thai ribs. I loved my main! I went with a 2 spice but could up it next time. My husband enjoyed his ribs and we both had left overs to take home. The best part is if you're going with a group the fushion part of the menu had something for everyone!!! I would recommend!

Bestie Foodventures strike again! 🐘 This month, we tackled the legendary Mad Elephant in Appleton. And let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! The Asian fusion was on point, and the fact that you can choose your spice level (1-5!) is a game-changer. If you're looking for a flavor explosion, this is your place! 🌶️ Another delicious adventure with my partner-in-crime. #MadElephant #AppletonWI #SpiceLevel1to5 #SpicyFood #Foodie #BestieEats #WisconsinRestaurants #BringYourOwnKleenex

MAD Elephant impresses with curries that are rich, flavorful, and expertly spiced, making every dish a standout. From creamy & comforting to bold & fiery the kitchen delivers with consistency and depth. The lively atmosphere adds to the experience, creating a space that feels vibrant and full of energy. It’s easy to see why this place has such a strong following.

While the food shines, the service can sometimes struggle to keep up with the busy crowd. There may be a bit of a wait for drinks, but the warmth of the staff and the quality of the food help make up for it. If you’re willing to settle in and enjoy the ride, MAD Elephant is well worth the visit.

Beautiful seating area, bar and outdoor seating with Fire pits!
Food is so delicious and well worth the prices! This time we had the Bacon Jam Burger, Sweet Fire Burger, fries, Truffle Mac & Cheese, pork spring rolls and Crab Rangoons! Oh and Long Island iced teas that were super strong and delicious just how We like them!
We were originally looking for traditional Chinese like orange chicken or teriyaki chicken but the menu was kind of confusing to us since we don’t regularly eat there. Later on when looking at the Drink menu I noticed the back page has Chef Specials!! THAT is where you find orange chicken or teriyaki chicken etc… now we know for next time lol. But my daughter and son said it was the BEST burger they ever had!!! I agree it was sooo good! Everything was actually! Wish I took pictures of the appetizers!

I am a lover of Thai and curry dishes and used to love to pick up Evil Jingle Prince from Taste of Thai often years ago. When I heard they fused with Houdinis I was excited I would still be able to get my favorite Thai Curry Dish as it was on the menu.
My boyfriend and I decided to order from there via Door Dash one night. I just knew I was going to order my loved favorite dish I hadn't had in a LONG time, but choose to explore the menu anyways. I see "Shu Shee" available with Duck or Salmon. LOVE duck AND Salmon and was really actually craving Salmon. I chose to last minute change my order and give jt a try and my goodness am I glad I did! This is DELICIOUS! Even the Tofu in it was good and I'm not usually a fan. The sauce is incredible and pairs so we'll with the salmon fillet. Definitly recommend this dish!

My wife and I have been wanting to check the place out for about a year. Today was finally the day and boy, it did not disappoint! Entering from one of the coldest days of the year we were treated to an appetizer of a warm and inviting restaurant. Then we actually did order an appetizer of chicken curry puffs …. Lovely. The slightly spicy sweet and sour sauce was perfect for them. I had a phuket punch which was like a mai tai. My entree was shrimp curry mussamun with a spice level 1. I have been to many Thai restaurants, so I was cautious on the spice level. Level one was hardly noticeable and will try spice level 3 next time. The curry mussamun was some of the best I have eaten and this is from someone who had curry in England. I know (and have visited) other Thai restaurants in the Fox Valley area but this place ranks amongst the best for me. Try this place out and bring your friends! Don’t let this wonderful treasure go unnoticed!

Finally a Thai place in the area that understands spice. It is a fusion restaurant. The food isn't fully Thai, there is a lot of phillipino, Hmong, and Viet flavours.

The tom kha ga soup was a little bland but that was the only dish that was a little lacking, but was packed full of veggies and meat.

The Pad Prik was phenomenal. I asked for as hot as they could serve. I did have to add more chili flake, but it was beyond delicious.

There was only one member of the wait staff available, but he worked harder than any server I have seen in a long time.

I saw several lower reviews, but there wasn't any hint of the negatives that a lot of them mentioned. Be sure to give them a try if you are in the area.

I showed up to pick up an order that was supposed to be ready and I was told that it would be 5 minutes, And it took 10, from what I could see didn't look like they had even started the order until I walked in so they flat out lied to me. Furthermore if you can't have an order ready on time when you literally only have one table in your restaurant, you should probably give up and Close down, there's no excuse for that. You were completely dead The table that was inside was already served and it took you 10 minutes longer than it was supposed to to make an order? What on earth do you do when you're busy. Smdh

"Food. Service. Atmosphere... To reduce my thoughts on this restaurant to nothing but stars spanning three broad, general criteria would be a far cry from justice," typed the adult male; the sugar from his meal still mixing with a "spooky drink" that reminded him of Mtn Dew and UV Blue.
The expectations were unfairyly high, no thanks to the previous establishment, but be careful not to use that as a critical crutch. For starters, the word "fusion" carries more baggage than an ex-wife travelling with her first new boyfriend. It's not often that two very different cultures can find meeting ground, on the table or otherwise, and the most agregious form of this stylization is curating a menu where one of those cultures is relegated to 4-5 dishes in the bottom corner of the back side of the menu. Being their first visit to Mad Elephant Thai & Fusion, the two intrepid diners decided it was best to sample the core of the idea; the Thai food.
The appetizer was a plate of chicken curry puffs (which, upon reflection, I am left pondering where any of the curry aspect lies in a triangle shapped chicken egg roll) that were fried in either old oil or brand new car oil. The outside - burnt; had less in common with the word "puff" than P Diddy after 2005. The only flavor came from dipping this Puffy into the sweet sugary soury sauce that often finds company beside a certain rolling shaped egg food. Coincidence?
For the main entree, they decide to pick a seat at the popular kids tables. They order pad thai and sesame chicken, and expect nothing but what popularity gives. Touchdowns, high fives, and old fashioneds in the back of a school bus. But much like finding out that these kids were being traumatized by their parents, they soon found out that these dishes being popular was nothing but a thin veneer masking mediocrity and disappointment.
The sesame chicken was a lower level of quality than your typical below-average Chinese takeout spot. Tough and overcooked, the chicken was a formidable opponent for our taster of Thai. He gritted and gnashed through the desecrated flesh piece by piece, perhaps holding out hope that the next piece would be better than the last. Alas, each one presented the same tired argument to our forlorn Friday feaster.
They screamed, wretchedly, "I HAVE SEEN. I HAVE WITNESSED THE HEAT AND THE HORROR. I HAVE BEEN TO BOTH SIDES AND I KNOW YOUR FATE. YOUR DAYS HAVE BEEN NUMBERED SINCE BEFORE THERE WAS TIME. THE OIL. THE OIL. THE OIL. CHANGE THE OIL".
The pad thai was fine.

My spouse and I were hesitant to come here (because of the reviews) but decided to check it out anyway. We were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed everything we ordered, the service was great and the prices were reasonable.

One of the chief complaints (found in the reviews) is the food being bland. While to a degree it lacked depth, it was by no means bland. The only thing we would have preferred was our sauces to be thicker as they were quite loose. Otherwise, the heat level was perfect, the portion size was generous and we both agreed we could see ourselves coming back to try other menu items.

We tried MAD Elephant on a recommendation and were underwhelmed with the food. Our waitress was great and the environment was nice too (beautiful outdoor seating area). I got sesame chicken and the chicken was very dry and the flavor was subpar. My husband's dish was better, but still not anything we'd come back for.

The crab rangoons were my favorite part of the experience because they tasted authentic and fresh.

I'm glad we tried it, but I probably won't go again. I'd recommend it (maybe we went on an off day!), but don't expect the best Asian food you've ever had.

Burnt and bitter tasting. First time to this new location and last time for a while. The old location had better quality control. Sad thing is we were there when they only had a few customers.

First time and was not disappointed. Four of us had apps and dinner, Tai tea, etc... Wonderful service through the entire meal. We will be back!

First time try it since it changed names. Lunch menu was limited, a bit pricey. We spent $85(tip included) for 3 people. Two of us had Thai tea,the other had water. Pictured is the ginger Thai chicken with noodles and the volcano chicken. Food wasn't very hot and offered no spice heat,we asked for 3 out of 5 heat level. The noodles were overcooked and sloppy, so I asked for some rice and was charged $3. Better options in the Valley for Thai food, probably won't go back.

Food was extremely bland. Appetizers tasted like they came from a freezer section pre made with no flavor. The service and atmosphere for sitting outside are great so it’s a shame. We won’t be back.

I ordered the pad thai, mussamun curry and crab ragoons. The pad thai was dry, crab ragoons are flavorless and the curry is lacking a lot. Very overpriced for how bland and lack of ingredients. Go to mai's deli. Way cheaper and they don't skimp you on the ingredients. You'll get bamboo shoots, bell peppers and even full mushrooms in your curry.

Walked in a little after 8:30. My friend and I were greeted and about to be seated and this gentlemen then comes out and says the kitchen is closed, despite their hours both online and on their door saying they close at 9:30. Who closes a restaurant kitchen an hour before they close? And if that’s the case, why aren’t other employees aware of this?

Extremely rude and excluding if you’re dining solo. Even when tables are available they inform you that you can only dine at the bar or leave. Was very appalled by this etiquette and behavior to customers. If they’re choosing your establishment to support and dine at give them free will to dine at an open/available table of their choosing; even if it’s a 2 seat table. These business principles are a disgrace and hope things change for better guest experiences.

Ordered the scallops and they were very rubbery and didn't have any flavor. None of the vegetables in the dish had any flavor either, and the sauce was wattery.

It was my husband and I first experience of Thai food for our 3rd anniversary and we absolutely loved everything about this place! Service was great, the mojitos were like no other ( I had 3 😁), what a great atmosphere along with fantastic food! We both left with happy bellys. I had Ginger chicken my husband had Shu Shee duck, we also enjoyed some crab ragoons with the deep fried vegetable platter for appetizers. Everything about this place was pleasantly fulfilling. We had an great anniversary date 🩷

First time since the change over from Houdini's. Honestly, wasn't so sure what we were walking into - we didn't hear too many great reviews.
Wasn't very busy for a Friday, which led us to be that much more skeptical.
Walking in, service was great and welcoming, and we had our choice for seating.
Choices on the menu for our liking weren't very good, but we did both find something, and the food came quickly and ended up being very good.
We got the Sweet Fire Burger without jalapeños, substituted the pepper jack cheese for Cheddar - excellent, and cooked as requested.
Also had the Vodka Tomato Shrimp - amazing.

I ordered the spicy level 5 noodle dish with scallops. It was delicious! The rice was soft and the scallops were large and plentiful. We sat at the bar vs a table.

Above average experience. Server was attentive, quick, and friendly. Menu has sufficient variety for everyone in the family. Food was good but not as authentic as it was in their original location.

Very tasty food once you get what you order.
So many tables crammed in the place, that I felt like I was having dinner in a standing room only club. We were unfortunely seated in a table right by the entrance and had people waiting for a table standing behind us. The issues started with beveages...2 Thai Iced Teas ordered...1 Thai iced tea and 1 Thai coffee delivered...after convincing the waitress that something was clearly not right. That issue was resolved. When dinner was delivered. Two of the three orders were not correct. The waitress said she will get them corrected. She left my wife's meal to eat. 1st mistake. About 20 minutes later they delivered my daughters dinner correctly and stated mine would be here soon. Another 20 minutes later mine was delivered. Very sorry the kitchen is backed up. The food was very good, but the rest of the experience removed this restaurant from my. Bowl 91 or Taste of Siam in Neenah are a better value with great food and environment, and you call all enjoy a meal together. Btw they provide one complimentary Thai iced Tea for our inconvenience. The waitress worked hard but it all fell short of expectations.

Got the "pan fried" scallops and they were just boiled with various veggies and a watery sauce. Absolute worst food I've ever had. Everything was bland yet spicy somehow.

Good luck making a reservation. Showed up with a group of 8 after making a reservation for them to tell us they can’t seat 8 people for another 2 hours. Staff was really rude as well.

Service was great. Our server was fast and polite. My drink was not very good at all. The Phuket drink just does not go together with its ingredients.

Got the Bangkok Thai dish and it was fine. We also shared the fried pot stickers and those were excellent.

Overall it was ok. Not nearly as good as Basils or Bowl 91.

First time ordering from here and everything was DELICIOUS! Sampled many dishes not familiar with and so happy with all of them. We live quite a distance from the restaurant, takeout was the option. We even kept items for following days and reheated. Still had amazing flavor and structure. Service was great and inside was very clean.

I've eaten here multiple times and the food was delicious on each visit. Presentation isn't the best, but the flavor speaks for itself. The spicy scale is skewed towards the weaker side, so if you enjoy spiciness don't shy away from ordering a higher number. Very pleased with the dishes and appetizers I've tried.

The cocktail menu has a lot of fun options. Service was quick and attentive.

The only downside of my visits is that the dining area is rather limited. When busy it can feel cramped quickly.

Bland food with hardly any meat and all onions, asked for a 4 spic level, lucky if it was a 0. Friend had the same issue. We won’t be back! Not sure why there were this many people here?

Food was okay. Our server questioned us why we were getting boxes, when we told him that we were full he continued to question us on why we were getting them. He also, commented on us leaving a cash tip, which was uncomfortable because he continued to say if we tipped on a card it would be split with other staff.

Getting a table was cramped and awkward, the food came out very fast and was just terrible. The pad Thai tasted like urine, all of the seafood in all of our dishes was rubbery, and without flavor asides from old stinky fish. This was my first time ever walking out of a restaurant in my life, but all 3 entrees were so bad that we sent them back, paid for our drinks and left.
