Thai small age has an odd parking arrangement but be sure to find a space and enjoy some really good food.

The interior is very clean and minimal. There is a large board with options to order from. Noodle dishes, curries, soups and more.

I had the stuffed wings, pork egg roll, and the Pho. My partner had the pad se ew.

The pho to me was a little one dimensional. I always taste the broth before any additional and the aromatics weren't there from the steam. The pad se ew was Thai styled but still had a wider noodle, and was saucier than Thai style would be. The mains weren't the stars the aps were. What are hands down the best hmong egg rolls in the area, and the stuffed wings were to die for. I will make the trip back I'd only for those again and again.

The food is awesome here! However, lack of privacy due to space is an issue especially if you want to dine with a family. Tones of noises from every corner because it's just a small open room. If you have a party of ten, you would most likely occupy the whole resturant. They get a lot of take-out orders. Expect to wait during rush hours.

Pho is good.

Staff was friendly and quick to respond to needs.

Tables and chairs are clean for the most part, not too bad.

The restroom is a single stall, but okay.

Parking is a problem. Park elsewhere and walk.

I honestly use to like this place but won't be coming back.
First my dad ordered a diet coke and didn't get it. So I went back up to order again. (Totally okay)
My family is big of 8 people. So we took up a table and a half.
My daughter and sister went to the bathroom behind us.
What made me upset was they left for a minute. There is a full bowl of pho. Nobody touched because they went to the bathroom.
The girl with the big ass eyelashes. Went over and put napkins in the pho. I turned around and said, "They went to the bathroom. They aren't even finish."
She just said sorry and stared at me. Like what? You gonna give us back our money for wasting our food or continue to stare at us. Smh. My boyfriend finally said, "Its fine."
In all seriousness we didnt want to make a big deal but it wasnt fine.
I mean in your head eyelash girl, did you think a big full of pho bowl untouched meant to shove napkins in to clear a table.
You knew we sat there, why didnt you ask?!?!
You literally have no space in the inside for people to sit down, fine. But that isn't our problem and for you to try to clear a table off asap because you need it.
Pho isn't cheap either especially when our bill was almost $100 together.
Bad customer service.
Plus didnt get a refund for the bowl of pho or even a new one.

Absolutely a hidden gem. Not only was the service friendly and warm, (as first timers we had some questions), but the food was delicious. They were able to do some substitutions and it was fresh, fast, and so yummy. The egg rolls were crispy and the chicken wing was grilled beautifully. The fried rice is always a must. Updating my review :
The stuffed chicken wings remain as awesome as they were years ago.
But the chicken pad thai was really chewy - whether it was the noodles or the chicken. They need to ensure that the chicken are not overcooked, spoilt my experience.

Not at all having this again at Mai’s.

This is my comfort zone and I have visited this place numerous times only for one dish - Stuffed chicken wings 🐓 I have had it hot at the restaurant, packed it to have it at home and on the way to theatre in the car. This is yummy food which makes me smile. The spicy sauce is one of the best sauce I have ever tasted. The menu is short but perfect. Enjoy the egg rolls too. They are great and so are the various curries.
However, I will be going back again and again for the Stuffed chicken wings 😁

Do not go here 20-30 minutes before close. Closing the store takes priority over properly preparing the food. Both our pad see ew and dozen egg rolls were garbage. Pad had barely any flavor and no spice, eggrolls had hard chunks in them, not sure what they are. Flavor was not there either. $30 down the drain.

My daughter didn't like the pad Thai, as it was too sour for her taste and one of the managers didn't hesitate to replace the dish with another that pleased her taste buds. We stopped here specifically for the stuffed wings a few years ago and every time we see a show at the PAC we eat here. Everything from udon noodles, curry, vermicelli salad, pho and so much more. We haven’t had a bad dish here. And the stuffed wings and egg rolls, YUM! It’s a very busy place with take out and dine in but everyone is friendly, and they clear tables off fairly quickly. I stopped in here between meetings to grab grabbed takeout. I walk in and the place is spare and tidy and chic and modern and perfect. I wanted to sit at one of their natural wood tables and splurp back a bowl of Pho while getting half of it all over my shirt and beard, but alas, I needed to get to the office.

So I stood there staring at the grid of their menu delights on the wall (see their website-via-laptop for what I mean), neatly organized by category: starters, fried rices, noodles dishes, curry dishes, pho, etc

Me: what am I gonna have? what am I gonna have? What am I gonna have?

The cheery young woman at the counter took my order:

-Egg rolls (two, as they’re ordered by the piece)
-Fresh shrimp spring rolls (also two, they’re also ordered by the piece) and they came with a thick sauce that I think was peanut based.
-Panang curry with chicken (it’s a medium spicy)
-Udon noodles with chicken

Was a little disappointed that they were out of the stuffed chicken legs. I guess if you go after 7 pm, that's what happens. They must be that good! The food was wonderful. Solid place to grab a bite to eat! The menu is very inclusive for various diets. A carnivore, a vegetarian, and a pescetarian were all able to eat just fine. Even when busy the pace of the food from the kitchen flowed well.

Inside:
Clean and cozy. There are a handful of tables up front and then just a bit past the counter there is additional seating. If you're sitting at the front just be prepared for the influx of people coming and going! I would say an average of 30 heads for capacity at tables, probably more with optimal group sizes.

5-6pm rush:
It exists, which is a good thing. This place is popular and it deserves to be! We were able to grab a small table at the front after placing our order (small wait for the stuffed wings) and then we moved to the back once a table cleared out. There is probably plenty of space for most of the day but it's definitely possible for there to be a wait for seating (happened to two groups that came in behind us, who just ordered carryout instead).

Service:
Staff was friendly behind the counter and enthusiastic to help answer questions or customize orders. The kitchen staff was in a good mood and the server was attentive and friendly.

Food:
Dishes came out clean and well plated, the food looked like how it was advertised on the menu and was fresh. The stuffed wings can be piping hot when you bite in to them! The wings I had were a bit plain, but they came right off of the grill so I just gave them a splash of some sauces and they were good to go.

Location:
They are right downtown so it's easily accessible to stop in and grab a bite. Parking in front is limited, if you're the lucky one of five or six you're fine, otherwise there's parking in back / on the side when you're approaching the restaurant. It is at a pretty janky intersection, so if you're not familiar with the area I would turn in sooner to hit the side / back parking. They are on the outskirts of the eastern drag of college, but makes for a fun night of walking up towards Lawrence campus (or vice versa) when it decides to not be winter outside.

I have been dining at Mai's for years and it has been consistently stellar. Great menu, with a good array of curries and other dishes. You can get an authentic level of heat, if desired. They use plenty of herbs such as Thai basil, often not the case in American Thai restaurants. It is nice that at they offer vegetarian options like squash curry and tofu, as well.
