Lunch buffet is 1130 to 230. We tried every single thing here, and each item was better than the last! The veg Pakora tasted like mini donuts!! This place is fantastic, highly recommend stopping here!

I’m not sure why this place isn’t always packed! Their food is delish and they have a buffet for like $16 for lunch which is a really good value in my opinion. Talking to the owner, it seems like Covid has really impacted their business. I will send everyone I can here!! The owner has been there 10 years and I’d much rather support a local business and you should too.

Had a lovely family dinner here for my birthday. All of the food was amazing and generous proportions. The tandoor dishes are bomb - mixed grill is great for trying all the proteins. Also loved coconut soup and the shredded paneer curry dish super unique. Wine was nice to compliment rich and spicy food. Multiple Naan bread choices and we enjoyed the ones we ordered. Go here for something different in Oconomowoc, you'll be glad you did.

I have always wanted to try Indian cuisine, and Mantra did not disappoint. I ordered takeout for myself and couldn't finish it all. I can't remember the dish's name, but it was delicious, with a perfect combination of sweet and spicy flavors served over rice. Don't judge a book by its cover—inside, the atmosphere is warm, and the staff are very friendly. I encourage you to stop by and try something new!

Delicious! We are pretty new to Indian food but their online ordering was really convenient and easy and everything we ordered was delicious! It was all ready to go as soon as we got there. We especially loved the goat cheese bread, the curry and the Biriyani. It was a half an hour drive for us but we will still be back because it was so worth it!

Hits are very good food and this location is a sure upgrade over their previous downtown location. Misses are the service left a bit to be desired as we came in and I asked for the menus and the server wouldn't give them to me until I was seated. All the tables have bottles of water on them which is kind of odd, why not provide water upon request and have it chilled? Also the brick veneer surrounding the archways is clearly falling off, it may be time to refresh the interior and just pull it all down. Also once again we have another restaurant owner that doesn't understand light bulb color temperature as all the lights over the tables are fitted with "daylight bulbs" that cast a harsh, ugly white light that is not warm nor inviting to sitting down for a delicious dinner. Please remove these bulbs and replace with "soft white".

Excellent food and good prices too. Naan and samosas were fantastic! The shrimp vindaloo was extra hot, something I have a hard time finding satisfactory (most are too mild). Definitely recommend a visit and sample some great flavors. 😋

Worst experience I have ever had at an Indian restaurant. I eat a lot of Indian food but have never been to this restaurant so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered butter chicken and shahi paneer with naan. Both of the curries were made incorrectly. The actual gravy was not the correct gravy for either curry. When I called and asked the man working there he seemed to know they messed up and it seemed purposefully done. I am Indian myself and know what these dishes have in them and I could tell they used leftovers of other dishes and just mixed them. Neither of these dishes come with whole green peppers and eggplants but we found them in both. Also the base for the shahi paneer was so watery and completely flavorless. It was not the correct base by any means. A shahi paneer should be creamy and thick when this was basically clear and watery. The butter chicken had so much tomato paste in it that it tasted like a tomato soup and was inedible. I could tell it was leftover chicken tikka masala that they just called butter chicken. We were told the owner would call us the next day and give us a refund as we couldn't eat the food but we never got a call or a refund. I would never recommend or go back to this place after the service we got.

Very cheaply prepared food. Lots of corners cut. Samosa sauces are clearly watered down. The main meals have smaller portions of the spices, again, watered down. The meat portions are very small. The Naan always seems stale.
I ate here a few times and gave it a pass, thinking it was just a rough day or bad chef etc. But even after some time passed I tried it again, and it was even worse. The only Indian joint in ocon, so I feel they don’t try since it’s not competitive. But their food is absolutely watered down. You will not get a true Indian dish.

Had lunch buffet & it was fine. Nothing outstanding but good. We were served a basket of naan with our lunches & didn’t finish the naan & asked for a container to take home the 3 remaining naan pieces.
We were told that we could NOT take the naan with us. They would throw it out but we could not have it. What a waste & what a stupid policy. The buffet is $15.95

The food was okay from the small sample we had. The vada was hard as a puck and the kimli kabob was a mix of flats and drum-stick wings instead of legs like we expected. The soup, had turmeric and according to my partner over powered the flavor.
The service was okay.
The atmosphere was bad. The only true memorable thing was the flies that swarmed our table, it was empty for our majority of our time. Overall, order out if your craving indian food and keep expectations low.

Decided to try take out after not going back since Covid. The tandoori chicken was charred and over cooked, very dry and to make matters worse they forgot the sauce for it. Naan was also too blackened and tasted burnt. CTM which is all I ever get there was in a different colored sauce and just okay. We used to love this place and these items. Very disappointed. Could barely eat any of it. Very sad because we love Indian food.

Then they were right downtown, nice clean building, etc. Now, post covid, they have relocated to a new location....run down, not clean, no heat, etc. Almost left without ordering. No one else there all the time we were. Owner(?) Greeted us, took order, cooked(?), served, etc....all while apologizing. Food was very good!...but can't help but wonder how fresh. The owner was very humble, courteous, and sincerely wanted the customer to enjoy the food. This is very important to me. It is an Indian #desi cousine with some new creative dishes like Lamb with Mango; they add Mango chatni (spicy sweet-sour sauce) to it. The only #halal meat option was lamb, so I tried Lamb Biryani and Lamb “seekh-kabaab”. Both were good; not too hot for the mainstream population. Kabab’s were juicy and went well with hot #naan. The side of spicy cauliflower and broccoli with seekh-kabab was new for me; I think it is a new combination for those who like broccoli.

Over priced. Subpar food. One rather small entree, a very burnt extremely chewy (seemed older than a day or two) piece of garlic naan that was sent to the trash after one bite, and 2 small veggie samosas was over $30. As an Englishman who recently moved over here I've been in dire need of a great Indian restaurant. Mantra Indian Bistro was our first try and I've got to say it was absolutely delicious! They currently weren't doing dine in due to staff shortage which is unfortunate as the interior looked and felt very cozy and had a lovely vibe to it, hopefully we can try dine in sometime in the future.

Their carry out service was very well optimized and the food was hot and bagged securely. They forgot our mango lassi on the pick-up, but quickly fixed the issue with no complaints!

Definitely will be dining here again in the near future! Highly recommend!

To say the food is sub par is an understatement. Taking into consideration regional differences with Indian food it still does not account for the lack of flavor profile, slow cooking and build up of spices.

The korma is like dish water with chilli no flavor notes
The tikka masala was bland not creamy and ok spice
The naan was flat as a pancake and dense. Come on it is supposed to be light and fluffy

Paneer pakora was tasteless and for something that is fried I can’t figure out how the cheese was not melted. We threw it out it was inedible.

The only reason they are still in business is lack of genuine authentic competition will not be returning you couldn’t pay me!

Round that off with over an hour wait time, when told 45 minutes for a pick up order. This place is a disgrace

Best restaurant in town! Everything I’ve ever ordered has been awesome and there are tons of vegetarian options. Also, the staff is so nice and friendly! They are short-staffed (like everywhere else) so it may take a little longer for food but it’s so worth the wait!

★ 3

The food is tasty, but as some other reviews have noted, somewhat overpriced for what it is. The dishes tend to be sauce-heavy: each time I've ordered, the mutter paneer has had just a couple of paneer cubes and a low density of peas in a pint serving (while other places tend to have a container mostly filled with peas and paneer, with the sauce filling the gaps), and the dal makhani has had a similar low density of lentils relative to the amount of sauce (which surprised me even more). Given that ingredient costs usually compose a minority of the cost of a dish for restaurants (labor and capital upkeep are most of it), I'd rather pay a dollar more for a meal that's filled out with peas or lentils - but that may be a minority preference, or may not work as well for the target market segment.

I don't eat meat, but there seemed to be a similar low proportion of chicken in the tikka masala my girlfriend ordered.

The upcharge naan options are not worth the price - one smallish flatbread isn't really worth even the baseline price to me.

The samosas, on the other hand, are tasty, substantive, and reasonably priced; I highly recommend an order with any meal, or maybe as an entire meal.

Basmati rice flavored with sauce is still delicious, hence my willingness to continue to order from here (aided by Oconomowoc's general lack of cuisine variety, especially vegetarian options), but if you're looking for substance and nutritional balance, you might be better served by another restaurant.

Had Goat Chettinad and Garlic Naan. For what I got, it was very expensive, and while the flavor was not bad (but not amazing, either) the portion was small, and about 75% bones. I will try another dish some day, and if it's better, I will update this with an improvement.

I also agree with the dissatisfaction some others have felt about the A/C being off where you have to wait for the food. It seems like penny-wise and pound-foolish to me. Make your customers comfortable. It's always worth it.

Worst Indian food I’ve ever had, and one of the worst carry outs. 15-20 minutes turned into 1.5hrs. Very overpriced ($104) for what little volume (and quality) I received. For a purchase of 5 entrees, we received 2.5 cartons of rice. An order of naan ($5)yielded one naan cut in half. Dessert of gulab juman (pictured with 8 on menu) yielded 3 balls in mysterious white syrup. Entrees at $17.95 amounted to a tablespoon of meat and 10oz spicy red sauce. Mango chutney was a blob of opaque orange wax. Everything was over spiced, over valued and under whelming. Rolaids and Tums all around!

We order door dash, every time we ask for extra spicy but it never is. Taste is ok but I think they don't know how to depart from the standard template and make it spicy - it was actually quite bland.

Ok so here's the thing. I deliver for door dash. They are closed for inside dining for covid which is fine but it is 92 degrees outside and they never run their ac so when I'm standing in there and waiting for 5 to 10 minutes I'm sweating standing their. They have ceiling fans at least turn them on so you're not slow roasting people.

Delicious meals. Went with friends for dinner to take to the waterfront. We all chose different entrees and flavored naan breads to share along with a couple desserts as well. We ordered the vegetarian meals but will definitely try more items from the menu in the future. All were so delicious! It is carry out with on-line ordering available. Very convenient. All meals were ready the time we chose and reasonably priced. Definitely will be return patrons.

Had takeout a few weeks ago. Wish they would have labeled the food. Ordered for several people and was the first time eating from here. Was confused about who's food was who's. We ordered pick up through doordash, we also had ordered drinks. Our drinks were not with our order on a table off to the side, nor did the person there, offer us our drinks. We ended up forgetting them because we had a big order and our hands were full. If they didnt put our drinks on the table because they didnt want the ice to melt, they should have a system to check orders for drinks on takeout orders.

Most of the food was very good. A few of the dishes were ok. Probably just personal preference. Would eat here again.

Visiting my dad, I'm from Chicago where there are lots of top-notch Indian joints, and this ranks easily among the best of those. Tandoor chicken was heavenly!

Easily the best restaurant in town in regard to artisan cooking with a most serious attention to detail.

Please please please support this place as the pandemic's economic effects hit this place hard, they deserve a win in regards to recovering their waitstaff.

Absolutely delicious food!! Only thing is- they DO NOT know how to hold back on the spice level. I ordered chicken vindaloo, (delivery via doordash) and while it’s supposed to be traditionally spicy (and have a orangish-red color) mine came BURNING HOT and had a very DEEP DARK velvet red color. Keep in mind, I eat tons of spicy food (I like stuff of the spicier side), so I’m no stranger to spice. It tasted PHENOMENAL but I found myself sipping milk after every bite, so I didn’t get to savor anything for too long!!

Otherwise- the food was ready extremely quickly, the rice was perfectly cooked and had a good flavor. The raita was delicious and I’m glad I got it because a spoonful of rice with a bit of that mixed in really cut the spice of the main dish. You guys rock! I’ll definitely be ordering from you again. I’ll be avoiding any vindaloo out of fear for my tongue and stomach though!

Paid $48 for two small containers of food and one large container of rice, 2 naan, and a rasmalai. I could understand charging $16 for lamb, but putting the same price on chicken? The Naans were super thin, the Lamb Madras was asked to be spicy, it didn’t have flavor and the receipt said medium. I’ve gone to Anmol’s in Milwaukee and it’s higher quality food, and service. The lady over the phone even tried getting me to buy more rice and said it wouldn’t be enough for two people.... I didn’t even get the servings for more than that!!! Next time, I’ll just drive a half hour to get better food that is worth my money. I was digging in to the dessert and ended up finding a hair as well!

Delicious!!!
However...either there was a mistake in the heat level or the difference between mild and medium is HUGE!
We ordered Butter Chicken (mild), Chicken Vindaloo (mild), and Chicken Tikka Masala (medium).
Although everything was absolutely delicious, we ( who LOVE spicy... had to chug milk and soak our lips in said milk between bites of the "medium" CTM.

Next time we will order mild and add our own spice.

The food is amazing. However for some odd reason they skimp on rice. A curry order comes with a disproportionately small rice side. Always order an extra side of rice!

Writing this review based on our visit a few months ago. Good food, however, they need to play some music or something. There's usually not many (if any) other people in the restaurant and it makes it awkwardly quiet. Server could be more friendly/talkative. They should have a more welcoming entrance/hostess area. The main concern though is the cleanliness of the bathroom. The women's was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it had never been cleaned, literally. The toilet paper roll was sitting on the floor and there was no soap. Seriously makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Outstanding! Absolutely love the food from Mantra; both the vegetarian entrees and the meat options are delicious. Although we have only ordered takeout, staff has always been friendly and their timing is fantastic--if they say 30 minutes, it will be ready in 30min, not before or after! Highly recommend.

This is great tasting Indian food. Highly recommended. I gave it four stars because it is a bit pricey for the quantity of food.

May 2020 update. Food still good but pricey. However, quoted more than 45 minute wait for carry out. Ended up being literally an hour and forty five minutes.
