My friend and I were in town for the Packers game and were looking for an authentic Wisconsin experience. The locals told us to try a supper club, and we ended up at Mark's East Side.
The vibe was exactly what we were hoping for—it felt like a normal Midwest dinner restaurant with a neat, old-time 1920s-ish atmosphere. The service was great and welcoming from start to finish, which really added to the classic feel. They also had some interesting non-alcoholic options, and I regret not trying the pumpkin pie mocktail I saw on the menu.
The highlight of the meal was the French Onion Soup, which we both agreed was incredible. We split the prime rib for our main course; it was cooked well and had decent flavor. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but I would order it again.
Overall, this was a very good experience and I'm not disappointed. To set the right expectation for others: don't expect the most amazing meal you've ever had, but you can expect a solid, authentic supper club meal. While I'd probably try another place if I'm ever in Appleton again, I'm very glad we came here. It was a perfect introduction to a Wisconsin tradition.

ABSOLUTE MUST EAT in Appleton! Legit German entrees w/Onion gravy. Kraut Balls is my favorite before Prime Rib, save the horseradish aioli for dinner. Beware the dessert menu..massive with temptations. It’s insane with some many things, Banana schnitzel 🍌 Coming here forever when we go up for Packer games to try to break my old fashion record. 🥃

Mark's East Side is old school--in all the right ways. I love Jägerschnitzel, and while that dish may be better at OB Brau Haus, Mark's is very good and is perhaps a better value when drinks are factored in. $6 for an Old Fashioned? Yes!

I was disappointed with the red cabbage. It was cut too thick and it wasn't mixed well. Also, the liquor was so-so, which I don't recall being the case when I visited several years ago. Did they make an unfortunate change?

Still, while I'm not saying you couldn't do better than Mark's, this remains a solid choice.

I always enjoy the food at Mark's East Side and the staff has always been great! The only negative thing I could say is it is very noisy. All popular restaurants seem to be noisy and I wish they all would think of upgrading ceilings to absorb some of the noise. But seeing it's hard to find another place with good food, staff and environment, Mark's is a pretty good place to eat! The staff is always outstanding!!

We were very disappointed with our meal yesterday, Friday. We had friends come visit us from out of state and we thought we would take them out for dinner to Marks Eastside. She ordered your fish special and said it was wonderful. He had a German meal and said it was very good. I had a cup of clam chowder and it was excellent. I had the broiled haddock and baked potato. My fish was very dry. Way over done. My husbandand I had the baked potato. It tasted like a reheated day old potato. Not fluffy and very hard to mashed up. It was horrible. My husband had fried haddock. It was way over done, it curled up and was chewy. We both left our food. We didnt want to complain in front of our out of state friends and were thankful it was our food and not theirs.

We were very excited to try out this place because we’d heard good things. So much for that. Arrived at 5:55 and were told it’d be a 30-minute wait for 2. Every other group of 2 was sat before us. Around 6:40 asked how long it’d be and host said 2 more tables before us. We saw plenty more than that get sat before us. Waited until 6:55 then walked out. Doubt they noticed.

Some of us have health issues that require restaurants to give an accurate wait time. Literally every other restaurant I’ve ever been to overestimates their wait time. Perhaps this place should learn to do the same.

My family came down from Minocqua for my granddaughter's high school graduation. After the celebration we went to Mark's East Side to unwind. Our waitress was outstanding! She was attentive and quick witted. She did a great job keeping up with our requests. Our water glasses were kept full. We never had to wonder where she was. We enjoyed her personality! My French onion soup was delicious! My sister was drooling over her carrot cake and I had the Schuam Torte. Not many restaurants carry this fabulous dessert anymore. What a perfect end to a wonderful day coming here for a outstanding meal My son in law was here for the first time. He could not stop talking about how wonderful his prime rib was. It’s become our favorite restaurant! My husband always says he’s going to try something different, but then he always gets the liver and onions. He says it’s the best he’s ever had. I always go with German. It’s gotten so that I prefer schnitzel, but I’ll take it with their Hollandaise, thank you very much!

Saturday, 5:45 PM, 4/26, first visit. Stopped on way home from NFL draft at Lambeau so we were not dressed up and did not have reservation. Waited about 30 mi minutes for table. Both of us ordered 12oz prime rib. Boyfriend added scallops ($15), I added mushrooms ($4). Meals included soup or salad. Boyfriend's chose French onion soup (upcharge), I chose salad w/Bleu cheese dressing. Soup was VERY good as was salad. Can't remember the last time I had Bleu cheese dressing so thick & tasty. Prime rib & scallops were melt-in-your-mouth excellent! For dessert, baklava bread pudding. Top 5 bread puddings ever eaten!
Server was great! Told her it was our first visit. She was helpful, friendly, bubbly (not over the top), and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job.
Total spent, including 3 old fashioneds & tip, was just under $150. Not a place we can afford on a regular basis, but definitely want to return.

Mark’s East is well worth the drive from virtually any distance. Reservations are highly recommended, as the restaurant fills up quickly. While it officially opens at 4:00 PM, the doors & bar open at 3:30 PM—so arriving early is a smart move.

The beer selection, though small, offers something for everyone. Their cocktails are equally impressive. We visited for a birthday celebration, and the service was truly exceptional—attentive, efficient, and warm throughout the evening.

We treated our dad to a steak dinner, while the rest of the family enjoyed a variety of fish dishes and classic German fare. I opted for a steak burger and splurged on the crab cake appetizer, which turned out to be absolutely delicious. And the yes, their French Onion soup was epic. Portion sizes were just right, and despite a full house, everything was handled smoothly and professionally. The special that night was prime rib. It looked absolutely amazing.

By 5:00 PM, there wasn’t an open seat in the house—a testament to their popularity and quality.

We waited over an hour and a half to get a table. We should have made reservations, but standing in an absolutely packed bar for an hour and a half dodging waiters and waitresses is not my cup of tea. So if you like a quiet sit down atmosphere, here is not the place. On a more positive note the staff was super friendly and the waitress was super nice and timely. The food was ok, we went for the fish fry and it wasn't the best I have had it was just meh. I don't think I would come here again though.

First time here and We WILL be back the next time we are in Appleton! The food was amazing; better than amazing. My husband had the Reuben soup which he said was delicious some of the best soup he has had. I had the French Onion which I would say is now in my top 3 of some of the best I have had. For main dish my husband had the corned beef and cabbage which he said was better than mine or his grandmothers.... I'm not offended I tasted it and I will surrender it was delicious. And for only real German food I have had was when my husbands grandmother cooked. I had the wiener schnitzel with half potato dumpling and spaetzle and sauerkraut. I learned I like the dumplings better than spaetzle and the only sauerkraut I like is on a Ruben or new york style hot dog or the sauerkraut balls not alone or plain. Also learned red cabbage better then sauerkraut. But with this being said even though I didn't care for it all I tried it and it was good and I did like the wiener schnitzel and everything was delicious. We had the sauerkraut balls as an appetizer those were really good that's why I included them in the three things I would eat sauerkraut with; Now my husband loved them especially with the horseradish sauce. For drinks my husband just had water since they only serve Pepsi and he is a die hard coke fan. Now I had the pecan Russian it was good, strong but good in flavor. We will be back for sure, there were a few things on the menu we both thought sounded good for next time. Our server was great, friendly, knowledgeable of menu, and very helpful, and patience. And as I said we will be back

Such a wonderful surprise. Visiting from out of town and came with a group. Had no particular expectations, and when I arrived it seemed like a typical bar/ restaurant. Interestingly Irish themed, but with a German menu (my entire genetic make-up!). Our server was so friendly in that wonderful Midwest Nice manner...but then I started to realize she was also describing the food in that elevated "fine dining" style (without any pretention). The menu was full of amazing options from cheese curds to filet mignon. Our group got a number of items all the way through to dessert and every single one of us at the table had one of those "bite...raise eyebrow...close eyes and savor" moments with EVERYTHING they brought out. Phenomenal. Highly recommend, and can't wait to be back in these parts so I can go again.

Well, this place has been a part of our lives for about 40 years. Went again this night, and ordered our special the stuffed tenderloin. This review is only to provide some constructive criticism. I know the ownership has changed but that there are strong ties to the old regime. Don't know whom are the chefs though anymore? Our baked potato was not that warm when delivered, we had to ask for bread as it us not included now nor were we asked if we wanted same. The stuffed tenderloin was flatter and wider than usual, overdone, and frankly not very tasteful at all. Yet, there was not an open spot anywhere in the parking lot!

Visited here tonight (1/7/25) with a group of 5. The atmosphere and greetings were warm and inviting as soon as we entered the door. The beer was cold and the bartenders friendly. We sat in the dining room for dinner and our server was Carly (sp?). She was fantastic. Considering we are from New Jersey, she did a great job explaining the variety of local and German fare. Super nice and attentive. She represented herself, the restaurant, and the region very well. The food was amazing. I had several tastings of appetizers that I normally would not have tried. For my entree I had the filet & crab cake. I wrapped it up with a chocolate cocktail, although I wished they had an espresso martini. I don't frequent this area often, but whenever I do, I would be sure to return here.

So crowded and we got there at
4:30 pm. Certainly not a place for long enjoyable dinner conversation.

Food was awesome and delicious 😋 service was outstanding! The only part of my experience i didn't care for was room.. it was cramped in the waiting/bar area like shoulder to shoulder but I guess that's to be expected when you have a place that has great food and service . Only recommendation i can think of is room and get a number board like at the dmv that lites up so people know when there table is ready so the hostess doesn't have to search for the party in a crowd.

Spouse and I were seated. Table was right next to windows. We told waitress the table was freezing cold. She stated they just turned heat on. After 20 minutes we were still cold feeling a cold breeze. She stated the heat didn't change and found us another table next to the door. Still cold but accepted there was no other option.

Food came out. My prime rib was barely body Temperature. Spouses broccoli didn't even melt butter and was basically raw. When we complained the server said "we'll prime rib isn't that warm" as if making it our fault we would complain. They took it back. It came back much warmer but broccoli broccoli was still not cooked fully. Not even half way. They told us plates were not sitting and she was handed plates right from chef the first time. If that's the case the chef did not do their job.

We waited 10 min for a drink (a carbless) at the table because the bar was "busy".

We were given 2 drink tickets for the inconvenience and then we're treated like we were to blame for complaining.

We won't be back. Very disappointing. And I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Bar area was quite small on a very busy night. The food was just ok, and that was reported by all 14 in our party. The waitress was newer, and appeared overwhelmed by the busy night, and then a table of 14 on top of it, but she did the best she could. Overall, glad we went, it wasn't terrible, but we won't rush to get back there .

What a find! Mark's is a great Wisconsin Supper Club. Everything was beautifully decorated for holidays, the servers were very friendly and helpful, and the food was great. Go early, this place gets crowded!

Brought friends from California here. They loved the food and the service! Drinks were great, specially their old fashions. Sauerkrautballs were awesome, but I can't compliment enough the prime rib! I will be bringing more friends to experience this great place soon.

Food was great, service was a little slow but they were very busy. Raspberry schaum torte was amazing, as was the tenderloin filet. Yum! Worth the wait.

Was busy but the waitress was very short with me. DO NOT ORDER THE PRIME RIB. I don't know if the chef called in sick or the were serving last weeks but it is NOT good. The side shrimp wasn't bad. Overall not the best effort on there part. I've been there several times before just not good anymore
